    Let's say that you have activated Wi-Fi on your smartphone and connected to an access point. Your phone displays the “Connected” status, but you cannot access the Internet, either using a browser or through other programs, for example, Odnoklassniki. What should we do in this case?

    First you need to check whether the Internet works for this connection at all. That is, you need to gradually filter out the list of possible causes using the method of elimination, and checking the Internet is the very first of them.

    Try connecting to this access point from another device and go online. If everything is fine, then the problem is in your smartphone. If another device does not connect to the Internet or does not open websites, then the problem is with the access point or router itself.

    Solution 1 – Correctly setting up your router for Wi-Fi

    First, check if your smartphone is within range of a wireless network. Typically, routers can distribute a signal up to 200 meters, provided that there are no obstacles within this radius. If everything is in order with this, then move on to the router settings.

    Change the channel your access point is on. Usually it is set to Auto, but we advise you to set it to channel 6 or another. Select any of the available ones, save the changes and check the functionality.

    Solution 2 – Setting up a proxy server

    Another possible problem is the automatic selection and installation of a proxy server for a specific access point on a wireless network.

    1. Go to Settings on your device

    3. Find the access point you are connected to and hold your finger on it for a few seconds. An additional menu will appear in which you need to click “Change network”

    So, setting up WiFi is an important, but one-time procedure; if you successfully complete it, you can use the Internet connection for a long time without interruptions.     So, first you need to understand how the connection in this format works in general. Stationary Internet, which is transmitted using wires connected to the router, is distributed via WiFi, thereby becoming accessible to your tablet and phone. In fact, the router creates a network in which the Internet is distributed “from the wire”. To access a network, you need to know its name and, of course, if security is installed, you also need to know the access key (in other words, a password). This is very important, because if your phone or tablet does not connect to Wi-Fi, this most likely means that this data was entered incorrectly.

    So, speaking about WiFi connection, it should be characterized as two-level. The first is connecting the router to the cable, both at the hardware and software levels.     Another common problem arises during the process of connecting your phone to a wifi router. The connection process stops when the phone attempts to obtain an IP address.

    The notification “Obtaining an IP address...” may remain next to the network name for hours. Naturally, you cannot go online, since your phone is not connected to it.

    • The problem is not solved as easily as the previous one. However, the first step is the same - turn off and turn on the router again after 10 minutes. If you still cannot connect after this, proceed to the second step.
    • Not the most convenient way is to register a static IP address on the device. You actually specify the parameters of the network to which you connect at home.
      However, when using this method, problems will arise with accessing the Internet through other networks. In order to do this, you will have to erase the IP address and change its type.

    You can register a static address as follows:

    1. When you click on the name of the wifi network, an item called “Advanced settings”, “Advanced settings” or similar will appear in the window that opens;
    2. Check the box next to this item;
    3. After that, in the “IP Settings” or “IP Settings” section, change the network protocol type (DHCP) to static and enter the IP.
