    Introduction

    In 2016, Samsung launched a new line of Galaxy C smartphones. Smartphones in this series were developed specifically for the Chinese market and are unlikely to be officially introduced in other countries. At least for today it is so, and enough time has passed since the release in June 2016. The C series devices in Samsung's lineup are somewhere between the A and S series and have both the characteristics of premium models and the shortcomings of the company's budget smartphones. When ordering a Samsung Galaxy C5 from China, please be aware that due to the fact that the devices are intended for sale in the Chinese market, Android version 6.0 pre-installed on them does not contain Google applications, including the Play Market app store. The situation is saved by the presence of the official firmware for Hong Kong, which does not differ from the firmware installed on smartphones sold in the world and has everything necessary for normal operation.

    Design, appearance of the device

    Samsung Galaxy C5 is a monoblock made of metal and glass. It is available in several color options: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Dark Gray. With a screen diagonal of 5.2 inches, the smartphone has dimensions of 145.9 x 72 x 6.7 mm, which makes it one of the most compact smartphones with similar screen sizes. The glass has rounded edges, the so-called 2.5D and high-quality oleophobic coating. Samsung claims that the glass is scratch resistant, but more details on the manufacturer and type of glass used could not be obtained from the company. Let's hope that it is made using technology similar to Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail.

    In the upper part there are: front camera, speaker grille, proximity/light sensors and LED event indicator. The indicator is exactly what the model borrowed from its more expensive counterparts, as is the fingerprint scanner. The Home key this time is flush with the surface of the front panel, which is not only beautiful, but also practical. It is made of plastic and can be easily scratched. The back panel is completely metal, except for the antenna splitters. It has a slightly protruding camera lens, an LED flash, and a Samsung logo embossed into the metal. At the top end, we see only the microphone of the noise reduction system. On the left are the volume keys, and on the right are the power key and the tray for SIM cards and memory cards (the memory card is installed instead of the second SIM card). The keys are pressed pleasantly and resiliently, although there is a barely noticeable backlash that does not cause discomfort. At the bottom are: 3.5 headphone jack, microphone, Micro USB connector and speaker grille.

    The smartphone looks very harmonious and, thanks to the materials used and build quality, expensive. Due to its relatively light weight and small thickness, it is pleasant to hold it in your hands. Personally, I get real aesthetic pleasure from this smartphone.

    Display

    The smartphone is equipped with a Super AMOLED display with a diagonal of 5.2 mm and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, which gives a density of 424 pixels per inch. The picture is of high quality, it is well read in the sun, the colors are bright, juicy. There is an opportunity to adjust the color rendering. However, as is often the case with AMOLEDs, it is not always possible to maintain a uniform white color. On my copy, the white color "walks" slightly from the top to the bottom of the screen. But this is if you look specifically. Full HD screen resolution is enough to ignore the pixelation of the image and, at the same time, save battery power. In my opinion, with such a diagonal, a higher resolution would already be redundant.

    Adaptive brightness control works adequately, does not attract attention to itself.

    The touch keys located under the screen are backlit, but, unfortunately, there is no vibration response when pressed, as in the younger Samsung models.

    The Samsung Galaxy C5 has a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 2600 mAh, which at first glance may seem insufficient. However, a relatively modest processor, coupled with an economical Super AMOLED display and adequate screen resolution, allow the device to work around the clock with an average load. If you do not play voracious games, then you will not need to charge your smartphone during the day. And in case you use your smartphone to the fullest, there is Adaptive Fast Charging technology, with which you can charge it very quickly.

    Performance

    One of the weak points of this smartphone is the pair of Snapdragon 617 processors and the relatively outdated Adreno 405 graphics chip installed in it. Despite this, with eight cores, the processor ensures reliable operation of the interface and most applications. Contributes to this and as much as 4 gigabytes of RAM. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the Galaxy C5 scored 45200 points. This is quite enough for the average user, but if you like to play modern 3D games, then you should probably pay attention to more powerful platforms.

    Camera

    Modern technologies today have reached the level where even budget smartphones produce acceptable shooting quality. The competitive moment has shifted to more complex matters, shooting at night, the possibilities of manual mode, etc. Galaxy C5 has a 16-megapixel camera with autofocus, but no optical stabilization. And here they took a little bite, so that it would not be too good. Samsung is very afraid of internal competition between its models. Photos in good lighting are excellent, color reproduction is quite reliable. In poor lighting, unfortunately, it is immediately noticeable that this camera is far from the flagships. Here are some examples of photos taken in different conditions.

    Despite the fact that the flagship devices from the global brand Samsung are still ahead of most other flagships in terms of manufacturability, the prices of such devices leave much to be desired. But if the Samsung Galaxy still somehow competes with other flagships, then mid-segment devices are reluctant to buy. Judge for yourself: who wants to buy a plastic, non-collapsible device with mediocre characteristics, when there are such Chinese as the Xiaomi Redmi 3 phone in a metal case next to it at half the price? Well, it seems that the company took this fact into account by releasing an all-metal Samsung Galaxy C5.

    Design

    Despite the fact that plastic is a little more practical in terms of scratching, the trend towards metal devices on the market is good news. After all, the metal looks much more attractive, and the processor should be cooled a little better. As for the novelty samsung galaxy c5, the company went the same way as Meizu, which also could not help but make a version of the new Meizu m3s in metal, although there is already a plastic Meizu m3 phone on the market.

    By the way, the comparison with Meizu m3 is more than appropriate. After all, outwardly, these novelties, released almost simultaneously, literally repeat each other. Almost the same form factor, the home button, the location of the hardware elements, the rounding of the protective glass - all this makes the devices twins. The only difference is in the camera lenses: in m3 it has a round design, in Samsung it is square. In total, four color options are available: silver, gold, graphite and rose gold.

    Characteristics

    Despite the outward resemblance to the Chinese, the Samsung device is much more preferable. You should start with a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. Another advantage is the new Qualcomm Snapedragon 617 processor, which works in conjunction with the Adreno 405 video chip. The advantages do not end there, because the new product uses 4 gigabytes of RAM. As for permanent memory, depending on the version, you can purchase a version with 32 and 64 gigabytes on board, naturally with the possibility of expanding with microsds. Not without oddities: the battery capacity is only 2600 mAh, which is already not enough today. On the other hand, many will want to pay for a metal device from a well-known brand, especially since it is equipped with a high-quality 16-megapixel camera. And if you look at the thickness, which is only 6.7 millimeters, it becomes clear why the manufacturer had to sacrifice the battery.

    Today we will talk about the technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy C5, an inexpensive smartphone from the South Korean company in a metal case, which was introduced at the end of May.

    The Galaxy C5 has become a representative of the new budget line from Samsung, so it has the appropriate characteristics: an octa-core Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617 processor, a FullHD screen and a 16 megapixel camera, which is like the good old .

    Widget from SocialMart

    However, in a number of parameters, the Samsung Galaxy C5 is not inferior to the flagship Galaxy S7, and at times even slightly surpasses it. Let's say the amount of RAM is 4 Gb, that is, quite "in an adult way." And the maximum amount of supported MicroSD memory cards is 256 Gb (the Galaxy S7 has only 200 Gb).

    The front camera resolution of the Galaxy C5 is 8 megapixels, while the latest Samsung flagships have only 5 megapixels. The optics are a little weaker, but selfie lovers will be satisfied anyway.

    Don't forget about the thin metal body of the Samsung Galaxy C5, which has a stylish modern design. This is now generally in trend, and many will like it much more than the glass back cover, like the Galaxy S7, which remains fingerprints even despite the oleophobic coating.

    In general, Samsung “packed” the Galaxy C5 with everything that any advanced modern smartphone should have: support for 4G LTE networks, Dual-SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n, a fingerprint scanner built into the hardware Home button , navigation, NFC payment, dual LED flash, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system.

    The price of the Samsung Galaxy C5 is about 22,000 rubles, which is very, very good for such characteristics. Still, this is not another Chinese craft, but a serious device from a reputable brand.

    The Samsung lineup has never been modest. The company produces devices of all price categories and regularly expands the range of smartphones. In May 2016, an ultra-thin clone of Meizu M3 Note saw the light of day in a thin metal case Samsung Galaxy C5. This is a fashion device of the middle class, equipped with modern hardware. It starts at $330 for the 32GB version and $370 for the 64GB version.

    Samsung Galaxy C5, in addition to a thin body, also features an 8 MP selfie camera with good aperture, SuperAMOLED screen with FullHD resolution. Whether it is worth buying it will help determine our review.

    In terms of features, the Galaxy C5 is in the middle class. The Chinese put such hardware in cheaper devices, but as for Samsung, the filling is quite sane.

    Design, body materials, dimensions and weight

    The smartphone is made in a typical design for 2016, which is found everywhere. Because of this, the device looks like some kind of Meizu, the design of which, in turn, is borrowed from the iPhone 6. But Samsung differs in that its body has a smaller thickness - only 6.7 mm. The dimensions of the smartphone are 146x72 mm, and it weighs 143 grams. The device is assembled well, there are no squeaks, but when you put it in your pocket, at first there is sometimes a fear that the Galaxy C5 may bend due to the small thickness.

    The front panel contains, in addition to the screen, a home button with a fingerprint scanner, a front camera lens, a speaker and sensors. If it were not for the Samsung inscription, the front of the device is easy to confuse with a model from another manufacturer (the same Meizu M3 Note).

    The rear backrest is made of aluminum, with strips of plastic, about 1-2 mm thick, located on the bottom and top of it. Another stripe leads to the camera lens: such a reference to HTC models. The camera lens is framed by a chrome frame and protrudes slightly. Near the camera on the right is a double flash, below is the manufacturer's logo.

    The sides of the smartphone have a standard configuration for Samsung elements. The power button is on the right. On the right, below the power button, there is a card tray that can be opened with a pin.

    The volume rocker is moved to the left.
    The top end is empty, the bottom one has a microUSB port, a speaker and a headset jack.

    CPU

    The smartphone processor is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617. It operates at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, the Adreno 405 accelerator is responsible for the graphics. Why they didn’t use the same Exynos that is installed in the Galaxy J7 is a big question. As a result, the power efficiency of the chipset is not impressive. Although in terms of speed it is enough for everyday tasks. With games at medium settings, the chip also copes perfectly. The AnTuTu test result is about 40 thousand points.

    Memory

    The smartphone was not offended by the RAM: the Samsung Galaxy C5 contains 4 GB of LPDDR3 memory. At the start, the system takes up just over 1.5 GB, the rest of the space is available for games and applications. There is really a lot of RAM (and even for a modest eight-core), so you don’t have to worry about program crashes.

    The built-in memory of the smartphone is 32 or 64 GB, of which about 25 or 55 are available, respectively. There is a slot for a memory card, but it is combined with the second SIM card slot.

    Battery

    The Galaxy C5's battery capacity is 2600 mAh, which is not very large, but forgivable given the thin body. The autonomy of the device is not particularly encouraging, but there is no reason for frustration: it can withstand a day of moderate use. Games drain the battery in 3-4 hours, you can watch movies or read websites for about 6-7 hours. The complete charger replenishes the capacity up to 100% in just over 2 hours.

    cameras

    The Samsung Galaxy C5 has an S5K3P3 camera module, which has a resolution of 16 MP. It is notable for being the world's first matrix with 1 micron pixels (Samsung marketers presented this as a plus, in the form of a reduction in thickness, but we know that). The camera differs from the same matrix in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro in that it has improved optics, with f/1.9 aperture. Therefore, although there is an improvement in light transmission against the background of the aforementioned Xiaomi, it does not greatly save the situation in the evening. During the day it is not difficult to get a bright and clear picture, but in the evening there is a lot of noise.

    The front camera has a resolution of 8 MP, its aperture is f / 1.9. It's good for selfies, but nothing more. Video smartphone records in 1080p resolution, with a frame rate of 30 FPS.

    Screen

    The smartphone is equipped with a 5.2-inch SuperAMOLED screen with FullHD resolution. It is very bright (up to 625 nits on a white background), clear, the PenTile matrix is absolutely invisible to the naked eye. Color rendition is normal, the shades may seem a little oversaturated, but these are not acidic tones that cut the eyes. There are no complaints about the viewing angles either. The screen is covered with tempered glass with a normal oleophobic coating.

    Communications

    The smartphone has two slots for SIM cards, but the second is combined with a slot for a memory card. Smarton supports GSM, 3G and 4G LTE networks. Devices officially imported into European countries work without problems with local networks, but handsets ordered from China may have problems with the notorious 20th band (800 MHz), which simply does not exist in China.

    Wi-Fi operates at frequencies of 2.4 and 5 GHz, but it does not support "ac" speed mode (chipset limitations). Bluetooth refers to generation 4.2, the navigator works with GPS and GLONASS satellites. Traditionally for Samsung, there is an NFC module on board.

    Sound

    The sound of the Samsung Galaxy C5 cannot be called very loud, but the speaker on the bottom end allows you not to miss the incoming one by accidentally closing it. The purity of the sound is decent, but the bass is frankly lacking, the sound is sharp. All this is due to the very thin case, which does not allow to build in a large loudspeaker. In headphones, the sound is much richer and richer, you can listen to music for a long time. There is an FM radio on board.

    operating system

    The Samsung Galaxy C5 runs on Android 6, the most up-to-date at the time the smartphone was released. The system interface has been changed to Samsung's proprietary shell, but this is not the voracious TouchWiz that a couple of years ago. Brakes when navigating through the built-in functions are practically excluded, which is facilitated by a large amount of RAM.

    Samsung Galaxy C5 Features

    The main feature of the smartphone is the small thickness of the case, but it is not the thinnest in the lineup of the Korean company (this title belongs to the A8 model of 2015).

    Pros and cons of the Samsung Galaxy C5

    • thin body;
    • good screen;
    • large amount of RAM.

    Flaws:

    • not the most energy efficient processor;
    • the camera shoots rather weakly in low light;
    • non-unique design.

    Who is a smartphone for?

    The Samsung Galaxy C5 is suitable for users who do not care about the advanced component in hardware, but the thickness of the device and its dimensions are important. For a 5.2" screen, the smartphone is balanced and compact, its thickness will please many. The device will not suit those who are already fed up with the same type of aluminum design of the backs, as well as those who appreciate autonomy. A (A5 or A7) will be preferable.Even the more budgetary J7 takes better pictures in low light.

    Our review of the Samsung Galaxy C5

    The Samsung Galaxy C5 is a thin, pretty smartphone. If it weren’t for the faceless design with the stripes on the back that bothered many, it could even be called stylish, but now all the shop windows are filled with such “stylish” ones. Under such conditions, it is not easy to understand what is worse: the same type, but recognizable "remnants" (which left the Samsung conveyors 2-3 years ago), or the lack of corporate identity.

    However, these are nit-picking: since the iPhone is considered beautiful, then the Samsung Galaxy C5 should be beautiful to the same extent. The review did not reveal any shortcomings in the device; objectively, it can only be scolded for not the most aperture camera. Snapdragon 615 for this price category does not look backward, it is enough. However, against the backdrop of the Snapdragon 625 (which is 1.5 times more economical and just as productive) installed in the slightly more expensive Galaxy C7, it seems not the best solution.
