• How to connect a network adapter. How to install a network adapter

Hello friends! I noticed that for many readers of my blog, the problems that arise with connecting to Wi-Fi networks, or working through Wi-Fi, in many cases arise through problems in the operation of the wireless network adapter. And the Wi-Fi router is not always to blame, which everyone immediately undertakes to reconfigure several times :).

Let's say a few words about what wireless network adapter (in the device manager, or in the description of the drivers, it will most likely be signed as Wireless Network Adapter). This is a device that actually connects your computer, laptop, netbook, etc. to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Well, I explained, but I think you understand what I mean :).

If you have a laptop or netbook, then most likely it already has a built-in wireless network adapter (unless the device is old, or even very old). If this is a regular desktop computer, then the wireless network adapter (Wi-Fi adapter) is connected separately. It may be, for example, a USB adapter such as, or an internal PCI adapter. You can read more about these devices in the article.

It doesn't matter what Wi-Fi adapter you have and on what device. We need it to work stably and there are no various problems with connecting and working with Wi-Fi networks. And in order for everything to work well, you need to immediately install the necessary driver for the wireless adapter, and if there are strange problems in working with wireless networks, and you have determined that the problem is most likely in the device (laptop, computer, etc.), then you need to try updating, or completely reinstalling the driver on the Wireless Network Adapter. What are we going to do now.

How to check if a driver is installed on Wi-Fi?

If after installing the operating system, say Windows 7, Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop or other device, then most likely the operating system simply could not find and install a driver for your network adapter. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think I've seen a case where Windows 7 installed a driver on the Wireless Network Adapter by itself.

Typically this driver (as well as many others) you need to install from the driver disk that comes with the laptop (netbook, USB adapter, PCI adapter, etc.), or download the driver from the website of the manufacturer of the same laptop.

In order to check if the driver is installed on the wireless adapter, you need to go to the Device Manager and see if it is there.

Right click on My computer (or open My Computer and click on an empty area), select Properties.

    Right click on "Device Manager".

If you did not find such devices there, then you need to install the driver. You can install it from the CD that comes with the kit, or download the driver for the Wireless Network Adapter from the manufacturer's website. Just look for a driver for a specific laptop model, USB adapter, etc. Below in the article, I will show you in more detail how to install a driver on a Wi-Fi adapter.

So you didn't find the driver? You need to install it.

Driver installed but Wi-Fi not working? We check if the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, if there are available networks for connection, there may be a problem in the router, etc. If everything is checked, then you need to try reinstalling (updating) the driver.

The driver is installed, but there are problems connecting to Wi-Fi(the device does not always connect, the Internet often cuts out, etc.)? - We are trying to remove the old driver and install a new one by downloading it from the device manufacturer's website.

Installing or updating the driver on the Wi-Fi adapter

Where can I get a driver for a wireless network adapter?

As I wrote above, the driver can be found on the disk that came with the device. Only this method has one drawback. The driver on the disk may be out of date. And on the website of the manufacturer of your device, there may already be a new version of the driver and it would be good to download and install the new driver. But if there is no way, or you don’t want to look, then the driver from the disk is also suitable.

Finding a driver for a wireless adapter is not difficult. For example, I have an ASUS laptop model - K56CM. So we ask Google, or Yandex a request ASUS-K56CM. We find the official site in the search results and go to it (we get to the page of our device).

Or you can go to the site of your device and make a squeak on the site by setting the model. If the page opens in English, then squeak the language change button and change to the desired one.

Then, on the description page, in our case of a laptop, we are looking for something like the “Download”, “Downloads”, “Drivers”, etc. button. We go through it.

If necessary, we indicate for which operating system the driver is needed. Then in the list we are looking for a driver for a wireless network device (you can refer to the inscription Wireless Network Adapter, Wireless Lan Driver) and download it to your computer (look at the date the driver was updated so that it is the latest version).

If you do not have a laptop, but say a USB adapter is connected to a regular computer, then formulate a driver search request in the same way. For example, “TP-LINK TL-WN721N”, or search for the device name on the manufacturer's website.

Everything, the driver is on our computer. If you just want to install, and not reinstall (update) the driver, then unzip the archive (if the driver is in the form of an archive) folder and run the setup file. Follow the instructions. After reboot, Wi-Fi should work.

If you need to reinstall (update) the driver

If you want to reinstall the driver, then I advise you to first remove the old one.

To do this, go to device Manager(how to do this is written at the beginning of the article) and right-click on the Wireless Network Adapter device. Select Properties.

Then go to the tab "Driver" and press the button Delete.

A warning will appear, check the box next to “Uninstall the driver programs for this device” and press “OK”.

Everything, the driver is removed. Restart your computer. Go to Device Manager. You should see an unknown device appear (Network Controller). This is our wireless adapter, it's just that there is no driver for it, we'll install it now.

I advise you to install the driver in the following way: if the driver is in the archive, then unpack it into a folder. Go to this folder and run the setup file, usually called setup.exe. Follow the instructions. After installing the driver, usually even without rebooting Wi-Fi should work. And I hope it will work stably.

Another way to install a driver on a Wi-Fi adapter

Go to device Manager and right click on unknown device (in our case Network Controller). Select “Update Drivers…”.

In the next window, click .

Specify the path to the folder with the drivers and click "Further".

The driver installation should begin. If Windows says that “The most suitable software for this device is already installed”, then try to install in the first way (from the installation file).

I think that this is a very relevant article and many will come in handy, it was necessary to prepare it earlier :). If you encounter problems that cannot be solved with the help of this article, you can ask a question in the comments, or on our forum. Best wishes!

How to install (update, reinstall, uninstall) the driver for the wireless network adapter (Wi-Fi)? updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

The principle of creating a local network in any version of Windows (XP, 7, 8, 10) is practically nothing is not different. The exceptions are complex multi-layered corporate networks that use multiple subnets, proxy servers, and VPNs.

But in this article we will look at how to create home network, without resorting to buying expensive equipment, but using a regular switch or router with Wi-Fi support.

What is needed to create a network

First of all, to create a local network from a certain number of computers, we need equipment:

note: in the event that a direct connection is used (i.e. we insert a twisted pair cable into both devices without using a router), then you will need not a standard cable, but crossover, unless modern MDI-X enabled NICs are installed. In this case, the standard crimping method can be used.

How to create a local network

Now we proceed directly to the creation. First we need to prepare:

    • Install all equipment in its place - computers, routers, etc.
    • crimping cable, if necessary.
    • Doing wiring, i.e. we stretch the twisted pair cable to the equipment.
    • We connect twisted pair equipment.

Costs note that when the connection is made and all devices are running, the connection connectors on the computers should shine. The same applies to routers with routers, only they have light bulbs located on front panel. If any light is off, then the connection is made. wrong.

When the connection is made, you need to configure the network in the operating system.

To start checking working group, for which we go to the properties " my computer". You can not open the properties, but use a combination Win+ R and enter in the window sysdm. cpl.

On all devices working group must be the same, otherwise the computers will not see each other.

To change the group, just click on the button. change and enter a group name. Name must be entered Latin, and match on all devices.

Then we look for network icon in the notification area and with its help we get to Network and Sharing Center.

Here we are interested in the link changing advanced options, it's third from the left and will allow you to edit sharing options. For each profile choose: Enable network discovery, autotuning And general access to files and printers.

Scrolling page and below disable shared access with password protection. All other settings can be left. Click Save changes and exit.

This completes the setup. The network should work, but only if your router distributes dynamic addresses.

If a router was used, or the devices were connected directly with a cable, then a few more settings need to be made.

    Network settings

When direct connection or using a router, we need change computer ip addresses. For this necessary:

We will not describe what each setting is responsible for, because. this is a fairly broad topic. It is enough to enter on all computers the addresses that are described above.

After making all the above settings, the network should work. However, do not forget that a firewall or antivirus can completely block the network. Therefore, if nothing worked, check their settings or temporarily disable them altogether.

    Local network via WiFi router

Setting up a network through a router is absolutely nothing is not different from what we have described above.

If the device is configured to distribute dynamic addresses, then the addresses do not need to be changed. Well, if IPs static, you will have to use the previous section.

Also, there will be no difference between whether the device is connected by cable or via Wi-Fi, in most routers, the address distribution settings are configured simultaneously and on wireless and on wired connection.

    How to make shared folders

After everything is set up, you need to create shared folders to exchange information.

    Question from user

    Hello.

Tell me, how can I update the drivers if I do not have the Internet? I lost my old relatives on the disk that came with the purchase of a PC ...

    Hello.

Unfortunately, not all corners of our country have normal and fast (relatively) access to the Internet. Not so long ago, I was visiting relatives in one regional center (and, it seems, not the smallest one) - I was surprised that you don’t have to rely on something else besides a Megaphone modem (with several Mbps) ... Wired Internet is not pulled - because. apparently the payback is small, and does not promise profits for companies.

In general, be that as it may, in this article I will try to consider several options for updating drivers when there are problems with the network (low-speed access, lack of a driver for a network card, limited traffic, etc.).

Note: although, of course, I’m thinking now, but how can people without a network be able to read my article? On the other hand, perhaps there is no network only on the PC, but on the phone, for example, there is access to the network (or you can read it from acquaintances / friends / relatives). There are also books, but I have not seen such recommendations in them ☺...

By the way, you might be interested in an article about the best programs for working with drivers (update, backup, etc.) -

Ways to update drivers when there is no Internet access

    Various cases...

Option number 1: After reinstalling Windows - there was no driver for the network card. A vicious circle - to have the Internet, you need a driver, to have a driver - you need to download it from the Internet.

You can also include here failures in the provider's network (or a kitten gnawed through the wire, as in the first preview picture ☺). In general, temporary problems ...

Probably the most common option that many users (with experience) fell into. Most people, I think, have a smartphone where it should be easy to download a hundred or two megabytes (MB) (I hope ☺). So there are a couple of options:

    1. find the driver itself and download it (and then transfer it from your phone to a PC). This option is somewhat dreary, so I don’t describe it in detail (because you need to know the exact adapter model, it’s rather inconvenient to search for a driver on the phone, and even download it);
    2. use a specialized program 3DP Net(which can be downloaded from a smartphone and transferred to a PC without any problems).

    3DP Net

3 DP Net - this program is designed specifically for updating network card drivers. It will automatically detect your card model and install the driver for it. The program supports almost all models of network adapters that are found on computers and laptops.

By the way, the INTERNET is not needed for its operation! Those. it is enough to download once, and then you can run it from a flash drive / disk (or from the phone's memory).

Actually, after downloading the utility, run it and install the driver. Then, when the network card starts working, I recommend downloading and installing it, and pressing the single "Update Driver" button.

Option number 2: you simply do not have the Internet, or low-speed and wait a very long time for downloads, even programs of 10-15 MB (besides, the connection is constantly breaking). Perhaps a serious breakdown at the provider (there will be no network for several days).

This option is also found, and especially in district centers, villages, villages. In this case, you can do it in several ways.

    Method number 1

It happens that some central streets in district centers are connected to high-speed Internet access, while the rest are not. Ask acquaintances, friends, relatives - perhaps one of them has access to the network. You will need to download something around 10-15 GB of information. We are talking about packages for updating drivers, such as DriverPack Solution and Snappy Driver Installer.

    Snappy Driver Installer

The full package weighs about 14-15 GB. Allows you to find and install drivers automatically for most equipment (most likely, all drivers will be installed on your PC. Problems most often arise with less popular and rare equipment). An Internet connection is not required for the full package to work: just run the executable file. I highly recommend to have this package on a separate emergency flash drive (more than once helped me out ☺).

    Driver Pack Solution

In general, by choosing any of these packages and downloading it to your USB flash drive, you can come to your place and install all the necessary drivers from it. Everything is simple and fast ☺.

    Method number 2

I think that if you have a repair service for equipment (computers, laptops) in your locality, they probably have similar software packages. You can ask them to write to you on a USB flash drive, I don’t think they will refuse (if you ask nicely ☺) ...

If you can’t get such software packages (DriverPack Solution and Snappy Driver Installer) on your own in your locality, then you can use services that download the files you need, then burn them on CD / DVD discs (flash drives) and send them to you by mail . Of course, you will have to fork out a little, but there will be a disk with drivers ...

    One of these services: http://filepost.ru/

Naturally, not free ☺ (I think there is a cash on delivery, so you don't risk anything)

    Method number 3

You can also buy a driver disk. For example, one of the convenient options is to use Avito (the most popular bulletin board, the best site for those who want to buy or sell something unnecessary ☺).

In the menu, select the desired heading "Games, consoles, programs ...", set a search query and search all over Russia. The choice of discs is very diverse. Sellers also send discs (flash drives) by mail (however, what and how you will have to negotiate on your own).

Carefully! Please note that there are enough scammers on the Avito website, and do not rush to transfer all the money for disks immediately to the first person you meet

That's all I have, I hope I gave at least some hint ...

Every user of this OS is probably familiar with the process of reinstalling Windows. And after installation, you usually need to do a lot more manipulations - and other programs, customize the look.

We already wrote about a handy tool - which searches for and installs drivers automatically. It is worth noting that new versions of Windows come with a basic set of drivers. Recently, I encountered a situation where network drivers were not installed during the Windows installation process. It is impossible to access the Internet, and you need the Internet to download the required driver. Vicious circle. And how now install driver for network card without internet?

In this article, we will look at several ways to solve this problem.

    Installation disk

Usually motherboards, network adapters, and other hardware are sold along with a disk containing drivers and installation instructions. Look among the scattered disks, suddenly you will find a disk with the necessary drivers.

Found? Insert it into the drive. Now you need to go to the "Device Manager". In Windows 10, you can right-click on “This PC” -> “Management” and find the manager there. Find the network adapter among all devices and select "Update driver" in the context menu. In the window that appears, click "Search for drivers on this computer" and select the drive. The driver installation will start and soon you will have the Internet.

Download the driver using another computer

If the installation disc is lost, you can download the driver through another computer that has Internet access. But for this you need to know the exact model of the network adapter. Perhaps you still have a box from a network card, or a warranty card, where the model may be indicated. If not, let's try to find out programmatically.

    1 way

In the same device manager, right-click on the network card -> Properties -> Details and in the “Property” drop-down menu, select “Hardware ID”. Copy the value and enter it into Google. The search engine will find many sites where you can download the appropriate driver for this device.

    2 way

Earlier we wrote about using the Aida64 program. This multifunctional program can show all devices connected to the motherboard. Launch Aida64 and go to Network -> Windows Network. There you can find out the manufacturer and model of the network card. Download the driver from the internet.

Installing the driver from the .exe file should not be difficult.

    Create a backup

Before reinstalling Windows, it's best to back up your drivers. This will help restore the functionality of all devices in a few clicks. Windows has a built-in utility called DISM.exe. In fact, DISM.exe provides many options, but we will use the function to create a backup of the drivers.

Run as administrator. To do this, right-click on Start and find this item there. In newer versions of Windows 10, it's called Windows PowerShell (Administrator).

    Enter the command:

    d ism /online /export-driver /destination:E:\Backup

E: / Backup - folder where to save drivers. Create it ahead of time. You can also save drivers to other media, such as USB flash drives. Export of drivers to the specified directory will begin. Wait for the process to finish, and only then proceed to reinstall Windows.

When you have a “clean” OS in front of you, it’s time to restore all drivers. In the same way as in the case of the installation disk, you need to open the device manager, find the network adapter and start the driver installation from the computer, selecting the folder where you saved the backup.

    3DPNET program

There is a wonderful program that can install drivers for network card without internet. This is a utility that packs a lot of drivers specifically for network adapters. And with a probability of 95%, the driver for your adapter is also there.

Download the latest version of 3DP NET from the Internet in advance. I specifically do not provide a link, because the program is constantly updated, drivers are added for new devices. Start 3DPNET. The unpacking of the drivers to the specified folder will begin. Then the program will automatically detect your network adapter and in 1 click you can install the driver. I strongly recommend that you burn this program to yourself on a USB flash drive in order to be able to install the driver at any time.

In this article, we will deal with such an important point as installing a driver for a network adapter. The network adapter is an Ethernet controller and installing the correct driver for him, the correct and reliable operation of your Internet connection will depend.

Consider where to look at the controller model, whether it works or not. Next, let's move on to the drivers: where to download them and how to install them.

    Briefly, what is a driver.

A driver is a program (software) that is needed to connect the operating system (OS) with devices connected to the computer and “explain” the OS how to use them correctly. Almost every device that accesses the OS has its own driver: external devices (peripherals) - mice, printers, monitors, keyboards, etc. , internal (components) - video card, network adapter, motherboard, processor.

Drivers for most devices are already integrated into the OS, but it may turn out that for complex and specific devices, which include a network adapter, you will need to install the latest driver.

By default, drivers are supplied with the equipment, so when buying devices and accessories, check for the presence of the driver - CD

    Network Adapter Diagnostics

In order to check if the network card is working, you need to go to "Device Manager".

Algorithm of transition to "Network adapters":

If the network adapter is OK, then there are no icons next to it like this and it has a name. If it does not work, it will be located in the "Other devices" tab and most likely have the name - "Ethernet controller"

Other Devices tab >>> Ethernet Controller

    or "Network Controller"

Other Devices tab >>> Network Controller

If there is a problem with the controller described above, then you need to install network card driver - (Ethernet controller), or reinstall it if you have a driver disk or have it saved on your computer. I hope the importance of the correct driver installation has conveyed to you.

Save your drivers to your hard drive, flash drive, or other media, or save your driver CD. Example: after reinstalling the OS, you will not have access to the Internet until the correct one is installed. network card driver question: how can you download something from the network?

    Network Equipment Identification

If you have a personal computer, then in order to find out which driver is needed for the network adapter, you first need to find out the model of the motherboard and on official website manufacturer Download the correct driver and then install it.

LAN card built into the motherboard. How to find out the motherboard model?

If you still have the box, receipt, warranty card, then this information is on them. If there is no box, then through the "Command line".

    Algorithm:

    • wmic baseboard get Manufacturer
    • wmic baseboard get product

We enter the commands one by one "wmic baseboard get Manufacturer" "wmic baseboard get product"

The motherboard in the example: manufacturer - ASRock; model - Z77 Extreme4.

Where and how to find the right driver?

Using the site https://www.asrock.com/ as an example, let's look at how to find the right driver, we need - Lan driver

asrock.com. Go to the "Support" section

Support section >>> enter motherboard model

    Click "Download"

    Choose an operating system

Driver — Broadcom Lan driver ver:14.8.4.1

On the websites of other manufacturers, the algorithm is similar: go to the "Support" section, etc.

Determination of LAN - driver by hardware ID (Vendor ID and Device ID)

The device manufacturer and device identifier - ID, as well as the driver, can be determined by VEN and DEV.

    Vendor ID– device manufacturer identifier (every device manufacturer in the world has one or more of these unique identifiers). These numbers are issued by the international organization PCI SIG;
device ID– unique device identifier (unique for the given Vendor ID). Their numbering is determined by the manufacturer.

Right-click on "Ethernet Controller" and go to "Properties"

Open the "Details" tab in the "Properties" drop-down list, select the hardware ID, right-click on the first line, Copy

The required code snippet for further use is PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_16B1

VEN - 14E4 and DEV - 16B1, these codes determine the driver that corresponds to this device. Next, go to the site https://devid.info/ru/ and insert into the search bar PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_16B1

RevisionID - revision ID (abbreviated as REV) is rarely used

    "Main" https://devid.info/ru

    "Home" https://devid.info/ru OS selection

After selecting the OS, the following will open. window, there will be a link to download the driver

    Download and save the driver.

You have a laptop with an integrated network adapter

If you have a laptop, then you need to look for drivers by laptop model. You can find out the laptop model by looking at the sticker on the bottom side. The model is known, more >>> find on the Internet manufacturer's official website and go to it , more>>> find your laptop model page or support.

A visual example on the model is the Z580 Laptop (ideapad) below.

go to https://www3.lenovo.com/ru/ru/ in the section Support and warranty, subsection - Drivers

Enter your laptop model in the search box

    Go to "Drivers" and "Software"

Select "Operating System" and download the driver

We determined which driver is needed, found, downloaded and saved it. Now we need to install the driver.

    Installing the network adapter driver

There is nothing complicated in installing the driver: you need to unpack the archive (or you can not unpack it, just open it and run the file setup.exe).

You can try the method through the "Device Manager", for this, create a folder so that you can quickly find it (you can on the "Desktop"), and unzip the contents of the archive there. Further (the procedure is described above in great detail) >>> "Other devices" >>> "Ethernet controller" >>> RMB >>> "Update drivers" >>> "Browse" (path to the file) >>> "OK » >>> «Next»

"Other devices" >>> "Ethernet controller" >>> PCM >>> "Update drivers"
