• Why doesn't Photoshop open files? Why can't a file (photo) in jpeg format open in Photoshop? Gives an error. What to do if there is a problem with picture playback

    Surely many of us, working in the Adobe PhotoShop program, have encountered the impossibility of executing a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data. This occurs when processing photographs. You are trying to open an image downloaded from the Internet or taken from your hard drive in Photoshop, and you see a message popping up about this error. This article will talk about why it may be impossible to complete a request, what causes problems with interpreting jpeg data, and what needs to be done to get rid of this error.

    The request could not be completed; there were problems interpreting jpeg data.

    Why does an error occur in Photoshop?

    Among the possible reasons for an error occurring when executing a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data are:

    • image damage as a result of a virus attack, which can only be seen by Photoshop, which has a more advanced method of checking files for integrity;
    • an error in the Adobe PhotoShop module, which loads photos in jpeg format into memory - it may not read the data correctly or may not take into account some nuances;
    • The jpeg file resolution is too large.

    Without knowing the true reason for the error message indicating that the request was refused, you must take the steps described below to eliminate problems with the interpretation of jpeg data. At some stage the error must be corrected. As a result, the required file will open correctly and you can continue working with it.

    Ways to resolve errors when executing a request due to problems interpreting jpeg data

    If the file is damaged as a result of a virus attack, then scanning the system with an installed anti-virus program will help, which will find and neutralize the malicious code. It is advisable to put the antivirus itself in regular scanning mode, but if any errors occur, you must also enable emergency scanning.

    Most often, it is impossible to complete the request due to problems with jpeg when processing photos in the specified format in Adobe PhotoShop.

    What to do if there is a problem with picture playback

    If you load an image into the editor and you cannot work with it further, then you need to do the following:

    • open the photo in a simpler editor that has minimal requirements for image quality (for example, in system Paint);
    • resave the photo in another format - to do this, click on the word “File” in the upper left corner of the editor, hover over “Save As” and select the extensions png, jpeg, bmp, gif or others;

    Selecting a format in Paint
    • You can not hover the cursor, but click on “Save As”, then the save menu will appear, where the file type is selected in the drop-down list;

    Selecting a format from the drop-down list in Paint
    • then you need to go into Photoshop again and open the saved image.

    If the problem of interpreting jpeg data arose at this stage, then using this method it will be solved.

    Image compression method

    You can also try compressing the image while maintaining its quality. This is done using online services such as Web Resizer, Image Optimizer, PunyPNG and other convenient tools, and programs such as Paint and Adobe PhotoShop.

    Let's look at an example using standard Paint:

    1. open the image in the editor;
    2. click “Resize”;
    3. by default the “Percentage” and “Save proportions” fields will be highlighted;
    4. In the “Percentage” field, enter the required number (in our case, 70%).
    5. Click OK - the photo is ready in the required size.

    Alternatively, try reinstalling Adobe PhotoShop or updating it to the latest version. It is possible that an outdated version of the program does not cope with the functions and causes an error when executing the request due to problems with interpreting jpeg data.

    Photoshop, being a universal photo editor, allows us to directly process digital negatives obtained after shooting. The program has a module called “Camera RAW”, which is able to process such files without the need to convert them.

    Today we’ll talk about the causes and solutions to one very common problem with digital negatives.

    Often, when you try to open a RAW file, Photoshop does not want to accept it, displaying something like this window (there may be different messages in different versions):

    This causes a certain discomfort and irritation.

    Causes of the problem

    The situation in which this problem occurs is standard: after purchasing a new camera and having a great first photo shoot, you try to edit the resulting images, but Photoshop responds with the window shown above.

    There is only one reason: the files that your camera produces when shooting are incompatible with the version of the Camera RAW module installed in Photoshop. In addition, the version of the program itself may be incompatible with the version of the module that can process these files. For example, some NEF files are only supported in Camera RAW contained in PS CS6 or earlier.

    Options for solving the problem

    1. The most obvious solution is to install a newer version of Photoshop. If this option does not suit you, then move on to the next point.
    2. Update an existing module. You can do this on the official Adobe website by downloading the installation distribution that matches your PS edition.

      Please note that this page only contains packages for versions CS6 and earlier.

    3. If you have Photoshop CS5 or older, the update may not bring results. In this case, the only solution is to use Adobe Digital Negative Converter. This program is free and performs one function: converts raw files into the DNG format, which is supported by older versions of the Camera RAW module.

      This method is universal and is suitable in all cases described above, the main thing is to carefully read the instructions on the download page (it is in Russian).

    At this point, the options for solving the problem with opening RAW files in Photoshop have been exhausted. Usually this is enough, otherwise there may be more serious problems with the program itself.

      There are special programs just for “broken” photos. They restore the image using a certain algorithm.
      But from experience I can say that it is possible to restore 10-15 percent, no more.

      Well then it’s easier to go to the bank and register there calmly and without any mistakes

      Just erase the letter E in the jpeg file extension. And you will be happy.

      is there really a difference? just the spelling is there, but the format is the same

      I present to you a free program for converting RAW to JPG, as well as for viewing detailed data about images (EXIF) - ShowExif v0.06-16beta.

      In fact, they are the same format.
      Its full name is Joint Photographic Experts Group, an acronym for JPEG.
      But in older operating systems, file extensions could not be more than 3 letters. Therefore, the file extension of this format was reduced to 3 letters JPG.
      But other operating systems do not have this limitation, so the extension was not reduced.
      So there are two parallel extension standards for the same file format.

      Google

      If you only think about changing the format, then Paint is the simplest solution.

      Well, or instead of .jpeg write .JPG

      No different. JPG is short for JPEG. Photography Expert Group:)

      How to make JPG from JPEG? Win+R write the word cmd, press ok. Write dir folder where the photos are. Write ren *.jpeg *.jpg. All pictures will become JPG.

      Having upgraded to Windows 10, I encountered a problem - files stopped being dragged into Photoshop! You have to open the file through the menu, which is very inconvenient and time consuming.

      The search for a solution led to results that I want to share with you. Take it, it will come in handy.

      First, simple solution:

      If files cannot be dragged into Photoshop, you need to check the access rights. To do this, right-click on the program shortcut and go to the “Properties” tab where we check the box "Run this program as Administrator".

      I’ll say right away that this method did not help me, in this case there is a second solution:

      1. Go to Start and in the search bar at the bottom insert the command: regedit
      2. Next we go along: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System
      3. Find the EnableLUA section. Open it by double clicking and change the variable from 1 to 0. Save. The computer will ask to restart. We agree or reboot manually. We rejoice - now the files are dragged into Photoshop.

      Personally verified by:
      1. Windows 10 Photoshop CS6 x64
      2. Windows 8 Photoshop CS6 x64
      3. Windows 7 Photoshop CS6 x64

      UPDATED 01/27/2019

      Thanks to our user named Artem, another solution was found:

      In Win10 Eng, only one method specifically helps - go to the Propirties of the shortcut in the Compatibility tab, go down, go to Change settings for all users, uncheck the Run this program as an administrator, click Apply - and that’s it, the files are dragged and dropped. And all these Enable LUAs of yours are a hat, after changing to 0 photos, music, videos, Skype and other Windows scales will not work. Do you need it?
