• The easiest ways to clear iCloud storage from iPhone, iPad and computer. How to clean iCloud: tips and tricks

When purchasing and activating any Apple device, you must create and link an AppleID to the new device. The developers have come up with a special iCloud Storage that allows you to save data and distribute it to other synchronized computers and phones.

    Cloud service

To log in, you only need your AppleID. The same login/mail and password that are used when downloading or purchasing applications in the AppStore.

    Possibilities

iCloud is a very convenient and useful thing. After all, you can transfer all important data without a special cable. What tasks does the service perform:

    • Easily move and access files;
    • fast data exchange (mail, messages, cloud services);
    • viewing documents and notes with the ability to make adjustments;
    • searching for a lost device using Find My iPhone;
    • Photo Stream allows you to view your photos at any time via AppleTV;
    • application synchronization.

If a new iPhone appears, then on the old one you just need to enter your login password and all the earlier files will be immediately displayed, and nothing will be lost.

Where to look for iCloud Storage

In the settings of your phone or tablet there is an iCloud item where you can enable or disable synchronization of any data.

An Internet connection is required to synchronize with the cloud service.

Since a MAC computer is powered by Apple, it has all the built-in functions of iCloud in its system, which cannot be said about a Windows PC.

In order to synchronize on Windows, you need to download a special program from the developer’s website or use the official website iCloud.com

You can log into it from any computer and also manage your account. The following functions are available on the site for any PC:

    Chips

When a new Apple device appears, ICloud becomes an indispensable synchronization service. It is worth considering in more detail all the functions of the service.

    Photos

Convenient to use in iCloud My Photostream. New pictures are moved to all devices linked to the account. And sharing allows you to enter the AppleID of your friends and relatives so that they can view your images on their phones or tablets.

If you turn on the camera on your iPhone and take a new photo, at the same time it will be uploaded to another linked device via iCloud. To do this, you do not need to connect a cable to your computer and copy all the images. Because all photos from the iPhone will appear in the iCloud Photo Stream. Including those that have just been made.

    Contacts

Let's say you're talking to someone on the phone and you urgently need to make a new contact. Open the contacts application on your computer and create this contact. In a few seconds we can watch it appear on another connected device. After this, you can make any edits on your phone or tablet. This is how synchronization occurs Address book.

    Notes

They work exactly the same Notes. If you come up with a brilliant idea or need to make a grocery list, you just need to open the Notes tab on your computer through iCloud Storage. Write down all the sketches and necessary points there. And from anywhere, open the note on your phone or tablet.

    Pages

Documents are a very important part of a person’s phone. How can iCloud make life easier in this case?

You can create a document in Pages on your MAC or on the iCloud site. After this, you need to open Pages on your iPhone, and ICloud will show all these documents. The most convenient thing is that all our changes can continue to be made on the phone and then opened again on the computer. Thus, work occurs between different devices.

    Backups

In the same menu, you can enable saving backups to your iPhone or iPad. Copies will be created every time the device is connected to WiFi and charging. This saves a lot of time.

    Other

This is how not only standard applications work, but many of those that the developers have included the ability to save data in ICloud. You can also manage Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Keychain and various documents.

    Free space

From the moment of registration, each user receives 5 free gigabytes to store their data, files and backups. All your photos will be saved to iCloud storage, but their size will not count towards that 5GB.

IMPORTANT! You can store no more than 1000 photos in iCloud. When this number is reached, old photos will be deleted.

If 5 gigabytes does not seem enough, you can expand your storage for an additional fee. And a special convenient scale shows how much free space is available and how much has already been used.

Every iPhone and iPad user, no matter how much memory his device has, comes to a moment when he reads the terrible phrase on the screen: “There is almost no space.” What to do? Now I will try to tell you everything.

No need to panic and run to the store to buy a new phone. I agree, some people do this, but we are not those who look for easy ways, so I will list ten simple steps to free up memory, or as Apple calls it, “storage.”

    1. Checking storage capacity

To check how much space is available on your iPhone or iPad and how much is occupied, you need to go to the menu Basic – Statistics . The top line displays the amount of occupied space, the bottom line displays the amount of free space. In my case, there is not much free space - only 1.4 GB. That is, a normal movie, even from the iTunes cloud, will no longer be able to be downloaded. I recommend doing this check once a month in order to avoid the embarrassment of memory being full at the most inopportune moment.

    2. Deleting information via Storage

Many programs themselves take up little space, but the information they download from the Internet makes them bulk up. So, for example, harmless Twitter in its pure form it weighs only 38.4 MB, and with the saved cache it weighs 269 MB.

Tap on any application from the list and see how much it really weighs and what exactly caused it to gain weight.

    3. Delete unused games

Yes, sometimes I myself don’t want to delete a game I once liked from my device. After all, there are records, and pumped up characters, and, let’s be honest, purchased items. But such games clog up the device’s storage so that there is simply nowhere to put new and no less interesting ones. Delete without regret.

    4. Delete all old podcasts, music and movies

Admit it, how many times have you re-listened to old podcasts? For example, a September issue about rumors regarding unreleased Apple devices or “Welcome to 2014” from the Mayak radio station? I'm sure never. And they clog up the memory on your phone! The most harmless podcast for 5 minutes can weigh 25 MB, but what if you have a dozen or a hundred of them?

I deliberately save only those old podcasts that do not carry a news color. For example, stories of brand creation from Brandyatina or interesting popular science episodes of the podcast “Not Fantastic Horizons”. And then, with the goal of not listening to it again, but letting the children listen to it.

The same goes for uploaded videos. If you buy it from the iTunes digital store, it will still be available in the cloud at any time, if not, you can always find it again online and watch it at your leisure online. There is absolutely no need to store it on the device.

    5. Message retention period

Everyone who uses an iPhone knows that changing one phone to another does not mean losing all SMS from the previous device. Progress has decreed that all our once magical manipulations with file managers and pulling out folders with SMS have become irrelevant (although experience, as they say, cannot be wasted). They were replaced by the restore from backup function. Neither photos nor SMS are lost. Even those that you have long forgotten about and would like to get rid of.

You can set their storage time by entering the menu: Basic – Messages – History . There are three options available: 30 days, 1 year And indefinitely. The default is the third item, which clogs up the memory. Replace it for 1 year and you won't feel the difference and you'll free up some space.

    6. Use the cloud to store photos and home videos

Now wet rags with accusations will fly at me, but think about it and look at the statistics on the use of the storage of your device. In the first place for 90% of us is precisely "Photo and Camera" .

I’ll give an example of how you can back up to Google+. Download the application from the App Store [download], go to your personal account settings and set the slider in the section PHOTO on startup.

    Google+ app skins from AppStore

The next step is to upload all photos and videos to the cloud.

You can set up Dropbox in the same way if the service of your native iCloud does not suit you for some reason.

    7. Stop using Photo Stream

Photo Stream automatically synchronizes the last thousand (!) photos between your iOS devices. However, you should know that 1000 photos is approximately 1GB, which is doubled. So if you don’t have a pressing need to share photos between gadgets, turn off photo streaming on all your devices.

Settings – Photo and Camera – My Photo Stream

    8. Save only photos in HDR quality

If you have set up automatic backup of photos via a cloud service, then you should take care in advance that the excess does not go into storage. By “extra” I mean doubling photographs of ordinary and HDR. Why would you store two identical photos, moreover, if one is also of worse quality?

Settings – Photo and Camera – Leave original

    9. Subscribe to a streaming music service

The days of fiddling around with downloading music to your iPhone are long gone. Those who are less stingy buy albums and singles directly from the iTunes Store, without bothering with any special services. Those who are used to being in trend rushed to acquire music streaming services.

Many of my friends chose Google Play Music, preferring it to all others. I'm content for now Jamendo, finding it the most convenient for yourself. Another music streaming favorite Spotify(unfortunately, not available in our region). By the way, some of my friends from the West abandoned the Apple music application, choosing it. Why? Yes, because you can download the songs and albums you need directly over the air at any time.

    10. Explore the Other section in iTunes and restore your phone

"Other" – this is the volume of your e-mail, music cache, saved browser pages. Sometimes during the process of loading pages or mail, downloads are interrupted and then the data takes up more space than it should. The simplest and most effective way is to backup and restore the phone from a copy.

In this lesson we will talk about several ways to top up your iCloud balance. Replenishment methods are available for the territory of Russia and in particular Crimea.

First, to use Apple services, you will need an Apple ID - your account, the identifier with which you log into Apple services.

Also, for clarity in the article, you can watch our video lesson. In it, our creative manager Turan will tell you how to use your iPhone to replenish not only your balance, but also increase your iCloud storage:

Method 1: linking a bank card or mobile account.

You will see fields for filling in the necessary details. The first field prompts us to select a payment method:

    • Credit or debit card - with this method, your purchases will be paid automatically from your bank account.
    • Mobile payment – select this method, and payment will be made using a confirmation code from your SIM card.

If you choose a bank card for purchases, then make sure that only you and no one else has access to your device. Since this method debits your funds automatically, without asking for an SMS confirmation code.

Method 2: other payment methods - suitable for Crimea.

You will need a QIWI.Wallet. If you have it, great. If not, here is the link: https://qiwi.com/register/form.action

As you can see, everything is very simple!

And now, after the iCloud balance is replenished, we can increase its size by 50, 200 Gigabytes or 2 Terabytes.

To do this, follow these steps step by step on your Mac or Windows device:

    Mac:

    Windows:

iCloud storage is by default and free; upon registration you are given 5 GB of storage memory. It is used to store various information from your devices. When you increase storage memory, it stops being free. Payment is made in the form of a monthly subscription. Regularly, every month, you will be informed about this by a message sent to your email address.

Don't forget that we are always ready to help you resolve any issues related to payment for Apple services.

From this material you will learn what to do if you run out of space in iCloud and how to buy more.

As every iPhone owner knows, iCloud makes a backup from the phone and stores photos, video files and other information within the service. At the same time, all content is reliably protected, and if necessary, you can update it on any iOS device.

But if suddenly the iCloud space fills up and there is no free space left in the system, backup will become impossible. Newly created pictures and other files will not be added to the library. iCloud-enabled software will no longer function. And the user will also not be able to send a message to the e-mail of this service.

How to clear iCloud storage on iPhone 5S - read our instructions.

There are 2 main approaches to accomplish this task:

    • Switch to a paid plan.
    • Clean the system by erasing unnecessary backup versions, photographs, messages, and the like.

Few people want to switch to the paid version of the service, so we will dwell in detail on the second method and tell you how to clear some space. Before the procedure, you must first check the availability of free space in the service. On gadgets like iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and the like, this is done as follows:

1 With OS version 9 and higher, you need to go to the iCloud settings, and then to the storage section. 2 If your device has iOS 8, at the last step another section with the same name (storage) will be available, which you will need to enter. 3 If your device has an iOS version lower than 8, select Storage and Copies in the settings.

    Freeing up more free space

    • Back up or copy your iCloud data.
    • Delete backup versions that were made a long time ago and are no longer relevant.
    • Erase photos and videos from videos.
    • Remove other unnecessary files.
    • Get rid of email messages.

    Shrinking your iCloud library

This section of the service uses it to share content on all Apple gadgets. This applies to photographs, videos and other things. Surely, among the variety of information stored on your device, there is a lot of unnecessary information. For example, these may be photo frames of poor quality or identical photos. Such junk can be easily removed from the photo application in absolutely any iOS gadget.

In addition, we can competently manage space in iCloud using the storage optimization function. This option is available in the device settings. When actively using it, the photo application automatically clears space, replacing photographs and videos with modified versions in the form of copies. Basic versions of photos in full format are saved in the cloud, and if necessary, the user can always upload them to the device’s memory.

Photos and videos that have been deleted are moved to the Recently Deleted Content album. From here they can be returned back within a month after removal. But if you want, you can permanently erase these files faster, without waiting 30 days. To do this, we need to click on the select button and decide on the elements that we want to delete. Then you need to confirm your decision by clicking on the delete button.

If after this there is no free space left in iCloud, all deleted photos and videos will be permanently deleted. Moreover, their copies will not be saved anywhere, including in an album with recently deleted photographs.

Below we will once again describe step by step the algorithm for deleting various content from the iCloud media library. In addition, we will tell you how to do this on the resource of the service itself.

Method to delete photos on iPhone

To perform uninstallation, follow these steps:

    • Launch the photo program and click on the icon of the same name (located at the very bottom of the display).
    • Click the select button and mark the images to be deleted.
    • Confirm your decision by clicking on the appropriate button.

    Deleting photo content from iCloud.com

To clear space from unnecessary photos via a cloud service, you need to follow these steps:

    • Go to the iCloud resource on the global network.
    • Open the photo application and enter the photo selection section.
    • Mark photo frames and video clips that we want to erase.
    • Click on the delete button.

Another way to reduce your media library

Even if you don't use the service's media library, the files in your camera roll section are still moved to iCloud backup. To check this copy on mobile devices with OS version 8 and older, you need to go to the storage settings, and then to the storage management section. But if your device runs on an iOS version younger than 8, go to the storage and copies section. And then select the name of your gadget.

To significantly reduce the volume of a copy of your media library, save photos and videos from videos to a laptop or PC. After these steps, make a backup yourself.

If you want to keep photos and videos on your iOS device, turn off the media library. This is done through the backup settings. Again, additional space can be purchased.

You can also permanently get rid of photos that you definitely will never need. To do this, go to the photo application and decide on the photo you want to delete. Then confirm your decision by clicking the delete button.

To delete content in this program, you need to:

    • Enter iCloud settings, and then go to the storage section.
    • Click the icon for the program that uses iCloud Drive.
    • Check all that are required.
    • Either click the edit button, or just swipe left.

Clearing storage by deleting letters from mail

You can also clear iCloud space by deleting messages from your e-mail account in this service. But if you want to save these messages, you can transfer them from your iPhone to your laptop or PC.

Deleting emails is very easy, especially if your Apple device has access to e-mail from iCloud. To carry out the procedure you need:

      • Swipe any message to the left.
      • Click on the cart.
      • Erase all messages or one at a time by clicking on the changes button, and then on the section for deleting all selected content.

To delete various data from applications that support iCloud, just go to the desired program and select all the necessary elements. As a last resort, you can delete the application itself, but even this cannot completely remove all unnecessary information from your device. Apple's cloud service is certainly very convenient to use, but it has a habit of storing completely useless data that takes up unnecessary space in your account.

Now we will look at a simple method that allows you to quickly and painlessly delete this kind of data directly from your iPhone. First, go to the “Settings” of the gadget and scroll down a little to the iCloud menu. Here we find the "Storage and Backups" section, where backup copies of all your devices registered with this Apple ID are stored.

We wait a couple of seconds, and the “Documents and Data” block will appear under the names of the gadgets - this is what interests us. First, let's look at working with this section using the example of an application for viewing Keynote presentations from. The fact is that I deleted it from my smartphone a long time ago, but, as you can see, all the presentations were safely saved in iCloud. I don’t argue, in a sense this is convenient, but in this case my goal is to free my “cloud” from unnecessary load. Since these presentations are not of particular value to me, you can safely click “Edit” and delete all these documents. You can also perform a similar operation by swiping to the right.

So we have replenished the iCloud storage with an additional 135 megabytes of free space. In addition to office applications, some iOS games, for example, Sprinkle, are very fond of saving to the cloud. This application also has not been on my iPhone for several months, but it occupies a treasured place in iCloud. Of course, the size of the program’s data is laughable, but some can win up to 100 megabytes with their saves. Delete.

Why is this necessary? It seems that such applications do not take up too much space. However, five programs with a data size of 30 megabytes each can already significantly reduce the capacity of your storage. Considering that most users prefer not to expand their space from the free five gigabytes, the count is clearly already going to megabytes.

    Be careful!

Clearing iCloud information this way will remove it from all your devices. Specifically, once you delete documents from Pages, you won't be able to open them from your Mac. Therefore, carefully choose what information you can sacrifice and what information should also be saved in Dropbox for safety. Just in case.
