• “Blackberry OS is a half-forgotten operating system

    Hello dear friends!

Today, the news flashed on the network that the chairman of the board of directors of Google, Eric Schmidt, published on his blog instructions for switching from an iPhone to an Android smartphone. It sounds quite serious, but in fact this is nothing more than another shot at a competitor. Google and Apple (creators of the competing Android and iOS platforms) have been exchanging similar jabs for a long time. And the only difference is that they periodically change places.

Such attacks play into the hands of both companies, because the more they appear in the news, the more popular they become. I also do not rule out that this is an element of mutual PR. The confrontation works the same way. And what is the result? Both Apple and Samsung are the undisputed leaders in the smartphone market.

That is what I want to talk about in this article. Because little has been written about her lately ...

According to the data for the third quarter of 2013, the Blackberry operating system occupies 1.7% of the market.

The first mobile device from Blackberry (formerly Research in Motion - RIM) was a regular pager, released in 1996. This is how the Blackberry OS operating system was born. The first version was the simplest and allowed the use of a limited set of functions.

The next version of Blackberry OS 2.0 appeared on PDAs with a black and white screen. It was a more advanced device that already had a built-in browser.

The company released its first mobile phone in 2002 - it was running the third version of the operating system, in which Java support appeared. The screen of the phone was still black and white, but it could already be called a smartphone.

Since 2004, the new operating system Blackberry OS 4 began to appear on smartphones with color displays. Updates that came out until 2008 increased the functionality of the system and improved the interface.

The fifth version of the system, which appeared after 2008, brought a number of significant innovations. One of the most important was the support for phones with touch screens. Blackberry OS 5.0 was aimed primarily at the corporate market segment. And here she enjoyed some success.

The sixth version, released in 2010, was designed not only for the business sector, but also for ordinary users. Phones with Blackberry OS 6 supported notifications from Facebook and Twitter, and also had a built-in YouTube app.

In the seventh version, Wi-Fi, NFC and voice search tools appeared. These improvements could be observed in new smartphones, for example, in.

In early 2013, the Canadian company RIM released the Blackberry 10 system and officially changed its name to "Blackberry". The new operating system is completely sharpened for touch control. Unfortunately, its release was a bit late... And even the release of the Blackberry Z30 touchscreen smartphone in September 2013 is unlikely to prevent Blackberry from slowly fading away in the mobile phone market.

This is not to say that Blackberry OS is a failed operating system. She could win her market share if she learned in time to adapt to the needs of users. Android and iOS "groped" their client, but Blackberry clearly made a mistake. And now it is very, very difficult to break through the thick vein of competitors.

    pros

Despite the depressing position in the market, the Blackberry operating system has an undeniable advantage.

In 2012, experts from analytical companies Altimeter Group and Bloor Research conducted a study of the four most popular mobile platforms at that time (Windows Phone 7.5, iOS 5, Android 2.3 and Blackberry OS 7.0) on the subject of security. As a result, on a five-point scale, Blackberry OS received the highest score (2.89 points).

    For comparison: iOS - 1.7, Windows Phone - 1.61, Android - 1.37.

Thus, the focus on the business segment has paid off: even though Blackberry smartphones are not the most popular, they are the most secure.

Remember: if you need to email sensitive information frequently, then choose Blackberry!

Have any of you used the Blackberry OS mobile system? I will be glad to read your feedback! Thank you in advance!

    Sincerely, Sergey Chesnokov
