• Will there be global firmware for mi 5x. Xiaomi Mi5x firmware for global or pure Android (like Mi A1). What to pay attention to

Xiaomi mobile phones are good, no matter how you look at them - they have performance, stylish appearance and an affordable price. One thing is not encouraging: if you get your hands on a Chinese version of a smartphone, you need to immediately worry about installing new firmware. Even if the manufacturer accompanies the device with the Global firmware version by default, the translation into Russian is poorly done. Therefore, to make your life easier, immediately install the Russian version of the firmware, leaving Global. Even if global firmware comes with a factory warranty, if you change it to custom firmware you may lose your warranty rights. With a competent approach to choosing software, this will not become a problem.

Today we will look at the example of Xiaomi Mi 5S, how the phone’s firmware is changed. The procedure is not very complicated, so you can reflash Xiaomi Mi5 yourself. The main thing is to strictly follow the recommendations given below.

We will install the firmware on Xiaomi Mi5 via a computer or laptop. First you need to download all the necessary programs onto it.

    1. – allows you to directly install new software on your Xiaomi Mi5 gadget. All necessary drivers will be installed immediately along with the program.
    2. Mi PC Suite and Android Studio guarantee that the computer correctly recognizes the phone in the system and runs it normally in EDL mode.
    3. Download the firmware from the official website.
      For Xiaomi Mi5 here - http://en.miui.com/download-299.html, for Mi5s here - http://en.miui.com/download-314.html.
We download the stable Global version.

All these files are downloaded, as a rule, from archives. Once the download is complete, unzip them. It is best to leave the files on drive C, but the most important thing is that the path to them should not contain Russian letters or spaces.

If you are working with an OS from Windows 8 and higher, then you need to disable the driver digital signature verification function. Even if you do this, when launching drivers and Mi Flash, the system may warn you about working with drivers from unknown sources. This is normal, always agree to allow the installation to continue.

    We give gifts

    Preparing your phone

We can flash the phone in EDL mode, into which the device must be switched. But first you will have to obtain developer rights in order to make changes to the system. To do this, go to the settings, see the “About phone” category, and then click on the “Miui Version” column 5 times.

Next, you can enable USB debugging. We return to the settings, find the item “Advanced” - “For Developers”. We activate this mode and the “USB Debugging” item.

    Putting Xiaomi into Fastboot mode

    1. Turn off your phone.
    2. Press the screen unlock and volume down buttons until you see a bunny on the Xiaomi Mi 5S monitor.
    3. In this form, Xiaomi Mi5 can already be connected to a computer via a USB cable.

    Switching to EDL mode

On the computer, in the command line, you need to enter the command fastboot devices. This will allow you to check the connected device. If everything is in order and there is no need to additionally install any drivers (the system should detect them itself), then enter the fastboot oem edl command, activating the mode we need.

    How to install firmware

When we have completed all the preparatory steps, all that remains is to find out how to flash Xiaomi and change the Global software to custom. We do the following:

    1. Launch the pre-installed MiFlash program.
    2. Click on the Refresh button so that the program recognizes the phone connected via cable.
    3. Using the Browse button we indicate the path to the new firmware.
    4. Click on Flash All and wait until the firmware is installed. This takes about three minutes.

    Turning on your smartphone

You need to know not only how to update the system, but also how to turn on and configure the phone after that. This is done like this:

    1. Disconnect the phone from USB.
    2. Press the lock button until we feel the phone vibrate. You can let go when you see the Xiaomi logo on the screen.
    3. The updated system launches within 5-10 minutes. There is no need to be afraid, because all folders have been updated, including the root.

After that, you can start setting up your phone from scratch! So don’t give up ordering Xiaomi smartphones through China. Installing Global firmware on them should not be confusing - just flash the device yourself, and the problem will be solved!

    Xiaomi Mi 5X review

The smartphone has a fairly good battery life, for example, with constant use of navigation and shooting, the battery lasts for 12-13 hours. If you set the following parameters: BT, Wi-Fi, 3G are always on - active use of several mailboxes, social networks, MiHome with a bunch of cameras, messengers, reading and music in transport - for about a day. If you use it purely as a dialer, then 3-4 days should be enough.
This is surprising for Xiaomi, but I didn’t notice any glitches or oddities in its operation. The lack of a version with global firmware is sad, you need to sew here and now: it will come out or not - who knows. Who doesn't like MIUI - there is a twin brother of this smartphone - Xiaomi A1, it runs the “pureest” Android.

After about 20 days of waiting, Mi 5X fell into my hands. While waiting, I looked at almost all Russian-language reviews of the device, so there was nothing particularly surprising. However, as it happens, the smartphone surprised.

It's worth starting with the appearance. Before this, I managed to hold the Redmi Note 5X in my hands, and we can say that the smartphones are very similar in all respects. If you look at the Mi 5X from the front, you can easily confuse the device with the Redmi Note 5X. However, if you look at the device semi-sideways, it immediately becomes clear that the Mi 5X is much more attractive due to its thin body. When the device is lying on a table with the screen facing up, it can be mistaken for an iPhone 7 Plus due to the thin body and similar shape of the side curves. In addition, the navigation buttons on the front panel are completely invisible when turned off.

The back of the Mi 5X is very reminiscent of the OnePlus 5. And during the day of using the device, I often found myself deciding to pick up the device just to look at its back panel once again.

In addition, the coating of the case was also surprising. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, which we reviewed earlier, had rougher metal, making it not so pleasant to hold the device in your hands. Here the metal is very smooth and pleasant to the touch. The color of the metal itself is also pleasing (a black version was purchased).

Separately, I would like to note the correct arrangement of elements on the bottom end. Everything is symmetrical, the speaker is located in the right place, the diameter of the speaker cuts on the case is also optimal, the 3.5 mm headphone jack looks very miniature. The volume buttons and the power button fit snugly in the body, but have very little play.

At the top end there is an IR port and a microphone. The SIM and microSD card tray is plastic, but has metal inserts around the entire perimeter, which also indicates that meticulous attention to detail was applied to the design of the smartphone.

The Mi 5X runs out of the box on MIUI 8. There is no global firmware yet, and it’s not a fact that there will be one at all, because there is no global version of the Mi 5X. Therefore, sellers supply the smartphone mainly with official Chinese firmware, where there is no Russian language and there are many Chinese unnecessary applications.

I won’t say that MIUI 8 works perfectly on Mi 5X. While watching a movie through the Google Chrome browser, the page very often reloaded, thereby resetting the video. After working with the camera, the screen brightness becomes almost minimal. And every time after exiting the camera application, you have to increase the brightness of the display manually.

In addition, out of 4 GB of RAM, about 2 GB are free. Where the other two go is unclear. Therefore, you will need to flash your smartphone after purchase in any case.

Already now you can download the ported firmware from Mi A1 and install it on Mi 5X. At the same time, no bugs or glitches in the firmware were noticed due to the identical hardware components of both devices.

To install pure Android from Mi A1 on Mi 5X you need:

    Create Mi account

Download and install VPN Turbo, select a Chinese server in the application

In the developer settings, you need to go to the section for viewing bootloader unlock status and click on the button at the bottom of the window

Then install TWRP and the firmware itself

At this stage, 72 hours have not yet passed since the smartphone was linked to the Mi account, so we will publish the experience of using the Mi 5X on the Mi A1 firmware a little later.

I don’t want to dwell on the camera in more detail yet; we will pay special attention to it. I'll just leave a couple of examples of photos taken on the Mi 5X below:

Normal mode with HDR enabled Portrait mode (apple slightly out of focus)

It is also worth noting the lack of HDR support in portrait mode, as well as the rather poor quality of the front camera. In other respects, the camera is only pleasing so far.

Regarding autonomy, some conclusions can be drawn now. The smartphone can work for 1-2 days without any problems. Of course, in terms of autonomy, the device cannot be compared with the Redmi Note 3 Pro, but still, at first glance, the Mi 5X has pretty good autonomy.

The performance of the Mi 5X is standard and if you like to play heavy games, the Mi 5X is not for you. Snapdragon 625 is a fairly average processor that does not evoke a storm of positive emotions. Xiaomi did not rely on performance. Mi 5X is more about design and camera.

Was developed as part of the program. The device does not use the MIUI shell. Instead, the user receives a “bare” Android OS with basic services from Google.

Mi 5X can be turned into Mi A1

The update is not officially carried out at the risk of the Xiaomi smartphone user.

There is one curious fact: the Mi A1 model is technically identical to the previously released Mi 5X. Thus, the only difference between these two devices is the OS installed on them. Due to the fact that the hardware of the devices is identical, a previously released device can easily be converted into a brand new A1. All you need to do is change the firmware. Craftsmen have already managed to turn one smartphone into another. Thus, a port of Android One for 5X was released by a person under the nickname heli0us (information from the official Mi Community) and is installed only on this device. The image is posted online and is available for download to anyone.

It is noteworthy that after installing this firmware, the smartphone begins to be identified as a new product from Xiaomi. The firmware works stably, no failures were noticed during operation. True, there is a small minus, which is the absence of OTA (“firmware over the air”, that is, update over the air). Consequently, owners of modified smartphones will have to install updates manually.

    Mi 5X Android One: instructions.

You need to install the firmware only from the official thread on the miui.com forum, otherwise there is a high probability of turning your smartphone into a “brick” due to incorrect actions.

How to update Mi 5X to pure Android, the correct sequence of actions:

    1. Go to Bootloader and unlock the bootloader.
    2. Install the TWRP Recovery (Flash TWRP) utility, which is responsible for system recovery. Installation takes place via fastboot.
    3. Download the firmware from the link above from the official forum.
    4. Reboot your smartphone using the TWRP Recovery (Reboot recovery) utility.
    5. We clear the Data (i.e. reset the settings).
    6. Install firmware from heli0us – “ Mi A1 AndroidOne Rom Ported for Mi 5X Tiffany».
    7. Enjoying the benefits of Android One and a pure Android smartphone.

In the same way, you can return to the standard MIUI graphical shell for Mi 5X.

Which is aimed at the international market. The peculiarity of this smartphone is that it was created using the Google Android One program. Thus, Xiaomi Mi A1 runs on pure Android 7.1.2, which should be updated to Android 8 by the end of the year. At the same time, this smartphone has a twin brother, both technically and externally, but it runs on MIUI, Moreover, there is only a Chinese version of this firmware. So many Mi5X owners perceived the release of Mi A1 with great optimism, hoping to get their hands on its firmware.

Not long ago we wrote that Mi5X owners who tried to install the firmware from the Mi A1 smartphone “bricked” their devices. This is due to the fact that the Mi A1 uses the same dual system partition design as the Google Pixel smartphones.

But our world is not without smart people. There was a craftsman with the nickname heli0us, who managed to port the firmware from Mi A1 to Mi5X. True, the firmware turned out to be modified and will not receive OTA updates.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi5X on pure Android?

First of all, you will have to unlock the bootloader of your smartphone. You can read how to do this at. Then you need to install custom TWRP recovery, which you can download from the link. After that, download the archive with the firmware to your phone and reboot into TWRP recovery. You need to clean it (wipe data/factory reset) and then install the downloaded firmware. Now reboot into the system and enjoy pure Android.
