• Function to determine the remaining supply of the next ink. How to disable ink control. Using the indicator

You can check your ink levels on your computer screen or by reading the ink level indicators.

    Using the indicator

    1. Make sure the power is turned on, and carefully open the paper output tray.

    2. Open the top cover.

The printer may make operating sounds when moving the print head to the position to replace ip3600 cartridges.

    3. Check the ink level indicators in .

    The indicator lights up steadily

The ip3600 ink tank is installed correctly and has enough ip3600 ink to print.

    The indicator flashes

Flashes slowly (at approximately 3 second intervals) ......Continuously flashes

Ink levels are low. You can continue printing for a while, but it is recommended to prepare a replacement ip3600 cartridge.

Flashes rapidly (approximately 1 second intervals) ......Continuously flashes

The ink tank is not installed correctly or is empty. Make sure the ink tank is installed as shown on the print head holder label. If the position is correct and the indicator blinks, the ink tank is empty. Replace it with a new one.

    The indicator is off

The cartridge is installed incorrectly or the function of determining the remaining ink supply is disabled. If the 520pgbk, 521c, 521m, 521y, 521gy cartridge is not installed correctly, press the (Press) mark on the 520pgbk, 521c, 521m, 521y, 521gy cartridge until it clicks into place. If the cartridge does not lock, check to see if the orange protective film has been removed from the bottom. If the remaining ink detection function is disabled, replace the cartridge with a new 520pgbk, 521c, 521m, 521y, 521gy cartridge.

If the indicator does not light even after you have reinserted the ink tanks, an error has occurred and the printer cannot print. Check the alarm indicator on the printer.

    Using a computer screen

You can check the status of each ink tank using the Printer Status Monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh).

    (A) Check if any character appears on the screen.

The (Ink Low) icon indicates that ink is running low. You can continue printing for a while, but it is recommended that you prepare a replacement ink tank.

An error message may appear during printing. Confirm the message and take appropriate action.

Follow these steps to open all confirmation screens.

    1. Open the printer properties dialog box.

    2. On the Maintenance page, click View Printer Status.

To check the ink supply information, click the Ink Details menu.

You can also display the printer status monitor by clicking the Canon XXX message (where XXX is the printer name) that appears in the taskbar while printing.

    1. Open Canon IJ Printer Utility.

    2. From the pop-up menu, select Ink Level Information.

To check ink supply information, click Ink Details.

Some printers and multifunction devices have an ink level monitoring feature. When the cartridges run out, the device is blocked. To prevent this from happening, this function can be disabled.

    Instructions

Be careful: if you refuse automatic ink level monitoring, you will have to monitor the condition of your device yourself. In certain cases, disabling this option increases the risk that the print head will burn out if you do not correct the situation in time.

As a rule, the principle of action when disconnecting is as follows: check for messages that appear that the device is running out of ink. On the printer body, press and hold the paper feed button with a triangle icon and a flashing indicator for 10 seconds. The ink level monitoring system will be disabled for the specific ink tank (the one for which you received an alert).

For some cartridges, there is another method: Open the “Control Panel” through the “Start” menu, in the “Printers and other equipment” category, select the “Printers and Faxes” icon. Right-click on the name of your printer and select “Properties” from the context menu. On the Ports tab, uncheck the Allow two-way communication box. Click on the "Apply" button and close the window.

Also, for certain printer models, there are special utilities that allow you to reset the ink counter (for example, IPTool). Install and run the utility, turn on the printer, select your model. Press the Reset button for black and color ink tanks one by one, and in the Ink Level group, set the value to “100”.

To reduce the printer's ink consumption, set up the economy mode. To do this, open the properties window of your printer as described in the third step and go to the “General” tab. Click on the “Print Settings” button and in the additional window that opens, open the “Paper/Quality” tab. In the “Print Quality” group, select the desired value using the drop-down list or mark the EconomMode field with a marker to enable economy mode. Apply the new settings.

Many users are wondering how to disable control level ink in printers and multifunction devices, because messages about lack of toner are sometimes untrue and simply interfere with operation.

    You will need

    • - printer or multifunctional device.

    Instructions

Disable ink level monitoring. This can be done by resetting the chips built into the cartridges. They are precisely designed to determine the ink level and prevent refilling of the cartridge. But resetting the chip is quite difficult.

Wait until one cartridge runs out of ink and a warning message appears on the printer/multifunction device display, prompting you to continue or stop printing. In this window, click “OK”, or click on the Stop/Reset button (the button looks like a red/orange triangle in a circle). Printing will resume. Once one of the cartridges is completely out of ink, a message will reappear on the printer screen prompting you to replace the cartridge. If you have a multifunction device/printer with a built-in cartridge, press and hold the Stop/Reset button for ten seconds. This way you will disable monitoring of the ink level in the cartridge.

To disable the ink level control of a printer with separate ink tanks, to do this, answer the questions that will appear on the computer screen. When prompted on the screen, press the Stop/Reset button if you have a multifunction device, or the Resume/Cancel button if you have a printer, and hold it for ten seconds. Disable ink quantity control for each cartridge separately. This will not block printing or affect print quality.

Disable the " Control level ink" on the computer to which it is connected. To do this, go to the “Control Panel”, select the “Printers” option. Next, call the context menu on the printer icon, select the “Properties” command. Then go to the “Maintenance” tab, select the “Printer Status Information” option, click on the “Options” button. Uncheck the "Produce warning automatically" checkbox.

Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, and then turn off and unplug the printer. After a while, reconnect the printer to the power supply and turn it on.

If the problem persists, contact a Canon service center.

When installing a refilled cartridge into the printer, the operating system constantly displays a message indicating that the ink is low. This happens because the printer “remembers” that the required number of pages have already been printed on this cartridge, but simply “does not know” about the ink that has been filled. To reactivate the ink level detection feature, use one of several methods.

    Instructions

  • Install another cartridge into the printer, and then a third one of the same type. The printer memory only contains information about the last two cartridges, and installing the old one after the other two cartridges will cause the printer to perceive it as new. As practice shows, such operations are suitable for almost any printer model, since they are all designed in a similar way.
  • Reinstall the printer driver by first changing the USB port of the device. This procedure will refresh the printer memory and the function will work again. However, you should not repeat such actions too often, as you can damage the device, and in the future the printer will not work entirely correctly.
  • The method for resetting memory is sometimes determined by the functions of the printer itself. To find the zeroing mechanism for your printer, carefully read the instructions. For Canon printers, you need to hold the power button for twenty seconds. If you do not have instructions, you can go to the manufacturer's official website and view detailed information about your printer in an electronic document.
  • Download from the Internet and install on your hard drive a third-party printer memory reset utility for your model. Thus, the ink level control function is activated programmatically. Do not also forget that with many printers, upon purchase, you are provided with a disk on which special software is recorded for checking the ink in the printer. An experienced user will not need to tinker with this function: the ink level is a virtual indicator, since there is no sensor inside the cartridge. It is much more convenient to monitor the number of printouts yourself and refill the cartridge from time to time.
  • The ink level in all inkjet cartridges is monitored programmatically, i.e., for example, a cartridge is designed for 220 pages and as it prints, it consumes this resource. As soon as it becomes zero, the printer will begin to report information about the end of ink in the cartridge and the need to replace it.

Those. the printer does not know the actual (actual) filling of the cartridges with ink - there is no sensor monitoring the actual amount of ink in the cartridges. This can explain the most common user question after refilling: “I refilled the cartridge, but the printer shows that it is empty.”

Canon's policy is more liberal in relation to other printer manufacturers and allows you to disable this function, i.e. Disabling this function is possible only on Canon printers/MFPs and not always.

If you have such a question and after refilling the cartridge and installing it in the printer, the device still shows that the refilled cartridge is empty and further operation of the printer is blocked and/or a message appears on the computer screen that the cartridge has run out (Fig. 1) and you need to replacing it, it is necessary to carry out the procedure disabling the ink tracking function on the printer.

    For cartridges PG-37/40/510/512/440/440XL, CL-38/41/511/513/441/441XL

    For ink tanks PGI-5Bk/520Bk/425Bk/525Bk/450Bk, CLI-8/521/426/526/451

Rice. 1. Information message about the end of ink in the Canon cartridge

Rice. 2.1. Information message about the possibility of disabling ink level monitoring in Canon printers and MFPs on cartridges

If you have a multifunction device/printer with a built-in cartridge, click the button "Stop/Reset"(usually this is a button with a triangle in a circle on it) and hold it for 30 seconds. This way you will disable monitoring of the ink level in the cartridge.

Rice. 2.2. Information message about the possibility of disabling ink level monitoring in Canon printers and MFPs using ink tanks

To disable the ink level control of a printer with separate ink tanks, to do this, answer the questions that will appear on the computer screen. When prompted on the screen, press the button "Stop/Reset" in case you have a multifunction device, or “Resume/Cancel” if you have a printer, and hold it for 10 seconds. Disable ink quantity control for each ink tank individually. This will not block printing or affect print quality.

Sometimes, instead of a simple message, the computer may issue instructions that describe in detail the steps to eliminate the problem. For example, “Press and hold the printer key for at least 5 seconds "Stop/Reset" she's the same "Stop/Reset" means that after holding the button for 5 seconds, a shutdown will occur, which will allow you to continue printing with the cartridge already refilled. It should be remembered that this action should be performed for each refilled cartridge.

Rice. 3. Button "Stop/Reset" located on the printer panel

Disable the Ink Level Monitor feature on the computer it is connected to. To do this, go to "Control Panel", select option "Printers". Next, call the context menu on the printer icon, select the command "Properties". Then go to the tab "Service", select option "Printer Status Information", click on the button "Options". Uncheck "Display warning automatically".

    Peculiarities:

    • Disabling ink level control is the same on all Canon printers and MFPs, both cartridge-based (PG-37/40/510/512/440/440XL, CL-38/41/511/513/441/441XL) and ink tank base (PGI-5Bk/520Bk/425Bk/525Bk, CLI-8/521/426/526);
    • This function only available in Canon printers and MFPs. This method not applicable to printers from other manufacturers (HP, Lexmark, Epson, etc.);
    • For ink tank-based printers, the control disabling operation must be performed for each color separately;
    • Ink level control is disabled on the cartridge (not on the printer), i.e. When replacing a cartridge with a new one, the ink level will begin to be controlled automatically. There is no need to turn on the ink level.

Now the ink level warning system will be disabled permanently. It is necessary to check the ink level visually (i.e. open the printer cover). Printing a large number of pages without ink can damage the print head.
