• How to find out what kind of laptop you have. Unnamed device: how to find out the Asus laptop model

    Hello.

In some cases, it may be necessary to know the exact model of the laptop, and not just the manufacturer ASUS or ACER, for example. Many users are confused by such a question and cannot always accurately determine what is required.

In this article I want to focus on the simplest and fastest ways to determine a laptop model, which will be relevant no matter what manufacturer your laptop is (ASUS, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell, Samsung, etc. - relevant for everyone) .

    Let's consider several ways.

    1) Documents upon purchase, passport for the device

This is an easy and quick way to find out all the information about your device, but there is one big “BUT”...

In general, I am against determining any characteristics of a computer (laptop) by those “pieces of paper” that you received in the store along with it. The fact is that sellers often confuse and may give you papers for another device from the same model range, for example. In general, where there is a human factor, an error can always creep in...

In my opinion, there are even simpler and faster ways to determine the laptop model without any paperwork. About them below...

    2) Stickers on the device body (side, back, battery)

The vast majority of laptops have stickers with various information about the software, device characteristics and other information. Not always, but often this information includes the device model (see Fig. 1).

Rice. 1. Sticker on the device body - Acer Aspire 5735-4774.

By the way, the sticker may not always be in a visible place: it is often on the back wall of the laptop, on the side, or on the battery. This search option is very relevant when the laptop does not turn on (for example), and you need to determine its model.

    3) How to view the device model in the BIOS

In general, many points can be clarified or configured in the BIOS. The laptop model is no exception. To enter the BIOS, you need to press the function key after turning on the device, usually F2 or DEL.

How to enter BIOS on a laptop or computer:

Rice. 2. Laptop model in BIOS.

After you enter the BIOS, just pay attention to the line “Product name” (Section Main - i.e. main or main). Most often, after entering the BIOS, you don’t even need to go to any additional tabs...

    4) Via the command line

If Windows is installed on the laptop and it boots, then you can find out the model using the regular command line. To do this, you need to enter the following command in it: wmic csproduct get name, then press Enter.

Rice. 3. Command line - Inspiron 3542 laptop model.

    5) Via dxdiag and msinfo32 on Windows

Another simple way to find out the laptop model without resorting to any special information. software - use the system utilities dxdiag or msinfo32.

The operating algorithm is as follows:

    1. Press the Win+R buttons and enter the dxdiag command (or msinfo32), then the Enter key (example in Fig. 4).

It probably doesn’t make much sense to dwell on each one. As an example, I will give a screenshot from the popular AIDA64 program (see Fig. 7).

This is where I end the article. I think the suggested methods are more than enough :) Good Luck!

There are situations when you need to find out the exact characteristics of a laptop, while the documentation for it has not been preserved. In fact, this is a fairly simple task, since almost all the necessary information can be obtained through standard utilities of the operating system itself or simple third-party applications. Next, we will tell you how to determine the manufacturer, model, type and parameters of the main components of a laptop - processor, video card, motherboard, memory, etc.

The simplest ways to obtain information about the parameters of laptop components

All basic information about the memory, video chip, processor and other components of a mobile computer can be obtained without installing any third-party applications. For this, ready-made solutions in Windows itself should be suitable. To check whether the system requirements of any application are suitable for your laptop, the Msinfo32 system utility will be quite sufficient. It starts like this:

    1. Open the Run command window. To do this, you can right-click on the “Start” button in the left corner of the desktop or simply press “Alt” and “R” at the same time.
    2. In the field for entering commands, write the line “Msinfo32”, click on “Ok”.

After completing these two simple steps, a system information window will open, where you can immediately see data such as model, frequency and number of processor cores, type and amount of memory, how much the motherboard costs, etc. Information about the graphics chip can be seen in another tab by switching to the components branch and opening the “Display” item. The type and size of the storage device is available in the branch of the same name in the “Disks” section.

The fastest way to find out the characteristics of a laptop

There is another simple way to compare the system requirements with how much memory costs, and in general what kind of hardware is installed in your laptop. To do this, Windows provides the ability to view basic system information. You can get to the corresponding window in just a couple of clicks:

    1. Open the context menu of the This PC folder by right-clicking on it.
    2. In the list of commands, select “Properties”, after which the window of the system application we need will be displayed on the display.

There is much less information about the laptop here, but there will be enough data to compare the system requirements of any game with them. The application window provides the following information:

    • processor type and characteristics;
    • memory size and system type;
    • information about Windows - its version, activation, etc.

Although this method is fast, it does not provide enough information about what hardware is in the laptop. Therefore, next we will present a couple more options for working with Windows system components, with the help of which almost all the necessary technical characteristics of the device can be obtained.

    Using the dxdiag system utility

More detailed information about the laptop can be obtained by opening the system application dxdiag.exe. It can also be accessed through the Run command:

    1. Open the “Run” window using one of the previously described methods;
    2. In the command input field, write the line “dxdiag.exe” without quotes and press “Enter”.

It also provides a very detailed list of hardware, including system type, memory size, processor model and specifications. If you switch to the “Screen” tab, complete information about the laptop’s graphics core will become available. Will be indicated:

    • manufacturer and model of graphics chip;
    • type and size of device memory;

You can also see the brand and manufacturer of the display, its performance characteristics, and information about installed drivers.

Using third-party applications to determine laptop characteristics

A good quality small application that can determine many laptop parameters - CPU-Z. With its help, you can view the technical characteristics of your processor, motherboard (model and chipset), size and type of RAM, and video chip performance. Information about each component is provided in separate tabs - CPU, Mainboard, Memory and Graphics, respectively.

Even more detailed information about installed system components is provided by the AIDA64 application. It is true that it is paid, but with a trial period during which the functionality is not limited, therefore, you can use the program completely free of charge.

Unlike many similar utilities, AIDA64 provides information not only about the processor, video adapter, etc., but even about the monitor, including its size. You can view them in the following way:

    1. Launch AIDA64 and click on the “Display” tab.
    2. Open the "Monitor" item.

All available information about the display will appear in the application work area - its name, size in inches, maximum resolution. Information that allows you to determine the release date of your monitor may also be useful - the program indicates the year and week of its manufacture.

Other information about the laptop that cannot be found out from diagnostic programs

While data such as the type and amount of memory, the diagonal size of the laptop display in inches can be viewed in some diagnostic programs, for example, AIDA64, these applications do not show the date of manufacture of the laptop itself or, for example, its weight. But the label that should be stuck on the back cover of the device can tell you how to find out the year of manufacture of the laptop:

Another characteristic that is interesting to many is the weight of the laptop. No diagnostic utilities display it in any way. In the absence of scales, it is possible to determine how much a laptop weighs only approximately, focusing on its dimensions and characteristics. Thus, large-format laptops with a diagonal of 17’’ can weigh more than three kg. Gaming and multimedia devices often weigh even more, exceeding 4 kg. Basically, laptops with a diagonal of 11-13’’ weigh 1.3-1.5 kg, 15-inch laptops - 2-2.5 kg.

This short note will be devoted to an interesting situation when you do not know how to find out your laptop model. I think that more advanced laptop users usually remember this data, although I can say for sure that some forget this information and, by the way, I am no exception. And if you are still a beginner, then this article is for you.

To find out what model your laptop is, just look at the front of the laptop, which is located just above the keyboard and at the top or bottom of the display. In the screenshots below you can clearly see where you can see this data using the example of Dell and Lenovo laptops:

It is very rare, but you can still find it when the model is written on the right side at the very bottom of the laptop, for example, like on eMachines and Acer laptops.

If the model is not written on the front of the laptop, then turn the laptop upside down and do a detailed inspection of it from below. There are usually several stickers stuck there, including the one with the name. The model can be written in different ways:

    • Using the word MODEL, and then the number itself.
    • Using the abbreviation MB, and then the number itself.
    • Simple writing of the number, without auxiliary words.

For example, below I showed 2 laptops: Samsung and Fujitsu.

However, what is written here is not always entirely correct, I mean that the model is not fully described. To make sure, we type in the manufacturer’s brand and the model itself into Google and check. There you can find the most reliable information.

    Battery

Sometimes laptop manufacturers may hide this data a little deeper, such as on or under the battery.

Information for those who have not removed the battery. Turn the laptop over and find the latches that hold the battery. Usually there are 2 of them, but there are exceptions when there is only one. Then move them apart and the battery will rise on its own.

Now you can check for the data you need. Most often you can find it on the battery itself, but also look under it (on the laptop).

Let's try to find out the model using standard Windows tools

Now let's consider the option of how to find out the laptop model through the command line. Go to the “Start” menu, type cmd in the search bar or use the hot keys “Win” + “R”, type cmd and press “Enter”. A window should have appeared with white English inscriptions on a black background. We write the following line here: wmic csproduct get name and press Enter again. The model you are using will appear on the screen, for example “Asus X52J”.

As an option I can also suggest one more thing. Go to the “Start” menu - “Control Panel” (look at the upper right corner of the window, at the “View” item, set the value to “Small icons” there - select “System”). Here everything will be described in detail: the model, the manufacturer, and everything in general, but not everyone will have this information displayed. You can open this window using an alternative method: “Start”, “Computer”, but on the last item we click not with the left mouse button, but with the right one. Select “Properties” from the drop-down list.

    HP Notebook:

    BIOS

Now let's talk about how to find out the laptop model directly when you start it. You probably already guessed that we are now interested in the BIOS. We go into it, look for the tab responsible for displaying this information, look, remember, done!

    Everest

Of course, I can't mention the additional software, for example I really like Everest. The utility displays the most detailed characteristics of all components of your computer, including, of course, the laptop model. How can I watch it? After starting the program, select “Computer” on the left side of the window and go to “Summary Information”.

In the “Motherboard” section there is an item of the same name opposite which will say what you were looking for.

In this article, I have not considered all the methods on how to find out the model of a laptop, however, I think that the above methods will be enough for everyone. Thank you all for your attention, come again ;).

To find out the exact brand of your laptop, you can use a dozen ways: from viewing the model on the laptop case to calling up information about the device via the command line. The methods below work on all versions of Windows.

    Documents and box

If you still have a box at home in which a new laptop was hidden when you purchased it, then the question of how to determine the laptop model can be resolved with one glance at the packaging. Here you can see the manufacturer's brand, model name and other useful information.

If the manufacturer does not indicate specific laptop models on the packaging, then look for this information in the warranty card or operating instructions. If many users immediately throw away the box, then documents for the equipment can be found at home several years after purchase.

    Stickers and battery

If you cannot find the documents, carefully examine the case of the laptop computer. For example, on devices from ASUS, a sticker with basic information is located directly under the keyboard, to the right of the touchpad. Sometimes on such stickers you can not only find the name, but also see the technical characteristics of your laptop. I have an ASUS X550C laptop, there is just such an informative sticker on the case.

If there are no notes under the cover that resemble the name of the device, then try carefully turning the laptop over and inspecting its bottom. Here you can also find a small sticker indicating the equipment model.

If all the stickers have long been torn off or have become so worn that you cannot make out what is written there, remove the battery and look at the model or in the battery compartment itself. Push back the latches on the back (there are different types of laptops, so there may be only one latch) and carefully remove the battery. If the information you are looking for is not there, install the battery and snap it back into place.

    View in BIOS

How to find out the laptop model if there is no information on the case? The first method is to look at the model in the BIOS. The biggest problem here is going into the BIOS itself. Typically, to log in, you need to press the F2 or Delete key when turning on the laptop.

In the BIOS you need to go to a tab with a name like “Info”. There, in the “Product name” field, the series and model of the laptop will be indicated.

    Windows viewing

If you missed the moment to enter the BIOS and have already loaded Windows, then here you can also quickly see the brand of equipment using the built-in tools.

The command line will display the device model. If the information you receive is not enough, use an application called System Information.

Another 100% working method is to run the DirectX diagnostic tool and look at the information about the laptop in it.

These methods work on any Windows-based laptops. Sometimes information about the device can be seen in the system properties (right-click on the “Computer” icon – “Properties”). But, for example, on a laptop with Windows 10 there is no such information in the system properties. But the BIOS or the DirectX diagnostic tool will not disappear anywhere, no matter what version of Windows you install.

    Using special software

The answer to the question of how to find out a laptop model can be provided by monitoring programs that analyze the system, producing a detailed list of characteristics - from the name of the equipment to the temperature of individual components.

The best monitoring program is called AIDA64. In it, the information you need is located in the “DMI” section in the “System” item.

AIDA64 is free for only 30 days, after which you must purchase a license. If you need the best free computer monitoring program, download the HWMonitor utility.

Here the brand and model are written at the top, just below the “Desktop” line. Instead of HWMonitor, you can use another free program - for example, Speccy. In general, there are many options, you just need to choose the method that suits you.

Sometimes laptop owners are faced with the question: “How to find out the brand of a laptop?” Often it does not arise out of idle interest, but is necessary to solve a problem or task. For example, to find suitable drivers, replace equipment or repair. In such situations, it is not enough to know only the name of the manufacturer and series of the device; you need to find out the exact part number and use it as basic information to find a solution to the problem. In this material we will consider all possible options for how to find out the brand of a laptop HP, Samsung, ASUS and any other. Most methods are suitable for each model.

Information in documents and complete brochures

Perhaps the most obvious and familiar way for people to find out the brand of a laptop and equipment in general is to look at the documents that the manufacturer or seller carefully included with the device. However, this option is not the most suitable, since, firstly, it is not always possible to find a passport for a purchased laptop, and secondly, there is a human factor involved, which means that you could have accidentally been given documents from another computer. Some sellers even make the mistake of providing brochures with false information in the kit in order to increase interest in the product.

    Stickers on the laptop case

Typically, manufacturers of Windows-based laptops do not care much about the exterior of their gadgets, so they do not hesitate to cover them from top to bottom with stickers with information about the system and hardware. This is only to the benefit of the user, because often the device model is written on them. This method is suitable when the computer is not working. Stickers with information about the laptop model can be located in the work area (under the keyboard), on the bottom of the laptop, or on the battery (most often under it).

In HP laptops of the new series, stickers are hidden on the bottom of the laptop, where you can get information about the series and the exact configuration. Stickers with a serial number are often placed on the battery. ASUS usually writes all the information directly on the front sticker, next to the Windows license sticker. If someone, based on his aesthetic preferences, has already managed to remove it, he can always remove the battery or remove the bottom of the computer, where there will certainly be markings.

    BIOS

If the computer is running or at least boots before entering the BIOS, then the information can be found right there. To get into the BIOS, you need to use one of the hot keys that operate while the computer boots. The most commonly used keys are F1, F2, Delete, and less commonly found are F8 and F12.

On ASUS laptops, sometimes you need to first hold down the F2 key, and then the power key. On solutions from HP, the F10 key is most often used. Once in the BIOS, you don’t even have to look for anything; the Product Name column will appear on the start screen and provide complete, and most importantly, accurate information.

How to find out the brand of your laptop using the command line?

For those who do not trust graphical interfaces and bundled documentation, there is an option to display the device name via the command line. This is especially true for Linux, where there may be no graphical interface at all, where this can be implemented using the sudo command (dmidecode I grep -A 9 “System Information”), after entering the command, basic information about the device will be displayed, including the brand and article number. On Windows, you can use the wmic csproduct get name command to get the model name and code without additional information.

System utilities dxdialog and msinfo in Windows

In the Windows operating system you can find at least two hidden utilities that have information about the characteristics of the computer you are using and its model. The first is called dxdialog, the second is msinfo. To launch them, you need to press the Win (Start) + R (K) keys, enter dxdialog or msinfo32 in the dialog box and press Enter. One of the programs will open, displaying complete information about the device.

Via the Control Panel in Windows

Those who are more accustomed to working with a graphical interface, instead of wading into the jungle of system utilities, can log in and view the information of interest in the Control Panel. In versions of Windows (before Windows 8), the Control Panel is hidden in the Start menu. In Windows 10, you can find it through the built-in search. Having opened the "Control Panel", you need to go to the "System" submenu, where information about the computer model will be displayed.

    Through third-party utilities

Many laptop manufacturers equip their gadgets with additional software that allows you to find out the exact characteristics of the computer and the full name with the code of the entire series and specific model. You can download these same programs yourself. Among the most popular are:

    • AIDA64 (formerly Everest) is a famous utility familiar not only to users of Windows-based computers, but also to Android fans. Displays in its interface the most complete information about the device, including characteristics and scores in various performance tests.
    • Speccy is a more preferable option for those who just want to find out the brand of their computer, since this utility is distributed free of charge and has a simplified interface.

Some laptop manufacturers offer their own utilities. For example, HP has reserved the Fn + Esc key combination in the system, which allows you to instantly go to the HP Support Assistant program interface, where you can find all the necessary information. ASUS takes a slightly different path and offers a software package for downloading for working with the motherboard and BIOS. ASUS AI Suite allows you to update/reinstall the BIOS and displays information about the installed hardware, including device configuration, serial number and exact name.

How to find out the exact MacBook model?

We figured out how to find out the brand of laptop ASUS, Samsung, HP and others. It remains to talk about the happy owners of Apple computers. Finding out which series a laptop belongs to is quite simple, just look at the markings under the display, but with the exact model and characteristics it is more difficult. If you have a new computer, you can open the system menu (the apple icon in the upper left corner), select the “About This Mac” submenu, and then click the “System Report” button. The problem is that the information in this menu can be faked, which is often used by scammers when selling a computer second-hand. In order to get the most accurate information, you need to install the free Mactracker utility and open the “My Device” submenu in it. The screen will display the model number, specifications, support status and much more.
