• The sound icon is not displayed on the panel. Why can't I turn on the volume icon? What to do if the volume adjustment icon disappears

The user faces various problems when constantly working at the computer. Whether it is a laptop, a computer or a netbook, it doesn’t matter. Today we will talk about a very interesting situation that can be found on different Windows systems, namely when the volume icon disappears.

What to do in such a situation? First of all, we restart the computer, this usually helps to return the volume icon to its place.

If, as people say, it doesn’t work, then read on. The most common thing is to click on the tray tab and see if there is a volume control icon. If it is there, then we will configure its display on the taskbar.

Click on the tab, then select “Customize.”

A new window will open in which you find the same icon. Now select “Show icon and notifications” in the “Behavior” column.

Also just below this window, click “Turn system icons on or off.”

Make sure that these settings indicate: Volume – On. If you made any changes, click OK.

After which it should appear for you. You can also access these settings in another way: “Start” - “Control Panel”, set the viewing mode to “Large icons” or “Small icons” (this is done in the upper right corner of the window). Then we find the item “Notification area icons”.

Here you look for “Volume” and set the “Show icon and notifications” option opposite it. Then click “OK” and if nothing has changed, restart the computer, after which everything should appear.

Be sure to read the information if there is no sound on your computer.

    Problem solving assistant

Well done Microsoft! They try to tell users when difficulties arise while working at the computer. Readers of my blog have more than once seen links to various fixes that help Windows users solve errors that have arisen. To download the utility, follow the link.

After downloading, launch it. Click “I Accept”, thereby agreeing to the terms of use of the software. To begin fixing Windows, click Next.

We are waiting for the program to finish manipulating your Windows and creating restore points.

When the process is complete, you can click “Close”.

Check the volume icon for presence in the taskbar.

    Editing the Registry

Above I talked about the situation if your system is not configured as needed. Next we will understand the problem itself.

For users who are on their own with a computer, I consider this method the most difficult, but it guarantees that the volume icon will return to 100% (if, of course, you perform all the steps on your computer).

Volume icon missing? No problem, we have a registry that will help you put the sound volume icon in its place. Go to “Start”, select “Run” - type regedit and press Enter. Then the Registry Editor opens. Now we need your attention, follow the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\

LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. In the right part of the window we find IconStreams by right-clicking on the parameter, selecting “Delete” - “Yes”. Then we do the same with PastIconsStream.

Exit the registry and restart the explorer.exe process (“Explorer”). To do this, we have to open the “Windows Task Manager”. This is done using the key combination “Ctrl” + “Shift” + “Esc”, then go to the “Processes” tab. We find explorer.exe there, right-click on it and in the drop-down menu boldly click “End process”. A message will appear in which we also click on the button of the same name.

Don't be alarmed, everything will disappear from your desktop. That's how it should be.

Please note that you do not need to close the dispatcher window, and if it is closed, simply launch it again. Now go to “File” - “New task (Run...)”.

Type explorer.exe and press Enter. We are happy because, firstly, all the desktop icons have returned, and secondly, the volume icon has reappeared on the taskbar, as if it had never disappeared.

If nothing appears (in theory it should!), restart your computer. This method should be used only as a last resort, when nothing else helps, as you need to do it carefully! The registry is not a toy; if you delete the necessary parameters, the system may fail.

In this article I have provided examples for Windows 7, but for those using Windows XP, there is a very detailed article from Microsoft. Link to article.

If you have performed all the steps, but there is no result, then try restarting the computer after all the methods. Perhaps a reboot was not enough for Windows.

On this note I end my article.

Today we will talk about the volume icon, or rather about a problem that any user may have - the volume icon may disappear from the taskbar. Errors happen in almost every program or operating system, so I will try to help you fix this problem.

Use the volume icon to increase or decrease the volume of your speakers, microphone, system sounds; find out which playback devices are currently enabled; test the performance of the sound card. But most often, users use this icon to adjust the volume of the sound, so it is very important.

Let's look at four ways to solve this problem, and at least one of them will get rid of the problem with the missing volume icon from the taskbar

    First way

If you have not lost the volume icon from the taskbar, then try looking for it in hidden icons. Just open the hidden icons view - you may have accidentally moved it there.

    Second way

This method will be the most commonplace - restart your computer. There may be some kind of glitch in the operating system, and a simple reboot can fix it. If the problem is not solved, then the following method will certainly help.

    Third way

This opens Control Panel and an area for you to select the icons and notifications that appear or can appear on your taskbar. At the bottom of this window we find the command “ Enable or disable system icons" and click on it.

Now you will see a list of system icons that can be displayed on the taskbar: , network, power (if you have a laptop or netbook), support center and. It is the last icon that we need to return back.

As you can see in the image above, opposite the volume, the behavior is set to “Off”. Accordingly, we need to change it to “On”.

After that, click “OK” and the window with these settings can be closed, and the sound icon should appear on your taskbar.

    Fourth method

I decided to write this method, because something might happen that all the previous ones will not help. It consists of resetting icon settings. Go back to the icons and notifications settings and now instead of the “Turn system icons on or off” command, click on “Restore default icon behavior”.

But to be honest, this last method is the least helpful for this problem.

By the way, all of the above methods are equally effective for both the Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems.

Greetings to all readers of my blog, today I will tell you what to do if the sound icon on the Windows 7 panel has disappeared and how to get it back.

This problem is not uncommon and is specific to the Windows 7 operating system. This may be caused by the fact that, for example, you previously installed an offline mixer (or volume control), in the settings of which the sound icon is naturally disabled. And then they deleted it, but the Windows sound icon itself will not return to the panel; it will have to be restored manually. This problem also occurs when the system is infected with viruses, driver failures, or Windows Explorer does not work correctly. I tell you how to get everything back into compliance in the instructions below.

The sound icon on the Windows 7 panel has disappeared. What should I do?

    • First you need to right-click on the taskbar. A menu will open in front of us, in which we will need to find the line Properties. Click on it once with the mouse, left button.
    • A settings window will open, where in the very first tab, as shown in the screenshot, we find and click the Configure button, which is located in the Notification Area block.

    • A window for customizing icons in the notification area will open in front of us. Find the line Enable or disable system icons and left-click on it once.

    • The window will refresh and a block will open in front of us indicating all the icons that may be on the taskbar. We need to find the one that is responsible for the volume. Opposite it, click on the line as shown in the screenshot.

    • After clicking, a mini-menu will open in which we need to select the On item.

    • When the settings change to On, for them to take effect, you must click on the OK button at the very bottom of the window.

    • And for the system to accept the new settings, press the OK button again at the very bottom of the menu.

    • After this, the sound icon will reappear in its usual place on the taskbar.

If the sound icon on the Windows 7 panel has disappeared, then do not despair. This is not such a difficult problem. I repeat, it often occurs spontaneously in this version of the operating system, and you can easily return it to its usual place on your own.

Hello friends! This is Andrey Khvostov, founder of the DohodSistemno.ru project. Today I’ll tell you about the volume mixer and where to find it.
Why did the sound disappear on my computer? Why does the sound disappear on my laptop? Perhaps the reason is that the volume icon or volume mixer has disappeared.

The sound mixer or sound icon is a volume control on the bottom horizontal bar, notification area, or system tray in Microsoft Windows.

Located to the left of the laptop battery charging icon. When connecting headphones, headsets, downloading programs that have a volume control function, or any other actions, the sound mixer disappears.

We are looking for it in its usual place, in the lower right corner, but it is not there. It's unpleasant, especially when you urgently need to change the sound volume.

I encountered this myself, so I decided to write this post. Next we will look at how to restore the volume icon.

    Volume mixer

Getting the volume icon back is quite simple. If you don’t want to bother with the settings, then there is a proven clumsy method, which is not the easiest in this case - to restart the computer. When you restart the computer, the volume control will reappear and you can work with it.

If you don’t want to overload your computer, then right-click on the lower horizontal panel (tray) between the clock and the Internet access icon.

In the window that appears, click Properties.

    The system icons window appears.

Opposite the Volume icon we see a volume on and off button. Click on it to turn up the Volume.

Now we should have a mixer on the tray. Also here you can enable the display of the clock, laptop battery power, and network operation.

If you need speaker and microphone settings, then this is also easy. Go to Start/Control Panel/Sound/Sounds. This is for the Windows 7 operating system.

This is how easy it is to do it. Often, because of such little things, we begin to get angry and nervous.

Look at the funny photo and smile.

I don’t know where this was made, but I observed something similar at the Prague Zoo. It was funny.

    This is the photo.

I should write a post about curiosity.)))

    Question from user #1

    Good afternoon.

The volume icon on my laptop has disappeared and now I can't turn the volume up or down. It’s very inconvenient, tell me what can be done?

    Question from user #2

Hello. An unpleasant thing happened in my Windows 10 - I click on the volume icon in the tray, but it does not respond (that is, the volume slider itself does not appear). What could it be?

    Good day.

Today I decided to combine several questions into one article (especially since the solution to both problems will be the same).

As a rule, when the volume icon disappears (and in general when there are various problems with it), it is enough to take a number of simple steps to restore operation. I will list them below in order.

Solving problems with the volume icon

STEP 1 - checking hidden icons

Windows hides little-used icons by default (though the speaker icon usually doesn't qualify for this). But nevertheless, now there are so many different builds of Windows, various tweaks, etc., that it doesn’t hurt to check.

To do this, click on the arrow in the tray and see if this sign is there (see an illustrative example below).

The sound icon appears to have been hidden by Windows as unused

    STEP 2 - restart explorer

If there are problems with Explorer (and this includes everything you see: the desktop, taskbar, icons, etc.), problems also appear with the visibility of some elements, or their response to mouse clicks. Restarting Explorer helps solve this problem.

How to restart Explorer: Open task manager (key combination Ctrl+Shift+Esc), in processes find "conductor" (or explorer) right-click on it and select “Restart” from the menu (see screenshot below).

An alternative option for restarting Explorer: restart your computer.

STEP 3 - Checking the display of icons in the Windows Control Panel

Many icons (such as sound, power, network, clock, etc.) can be configured through . This is done in the “Design and Personalization” section, in the “Taskbar and Navigation” subsection (see screenshot below).

If you have Windows 7, then you can immediately start setting up what to display and what not.

If you have Windows 10, another window will appear in which you need to open one of two links (see below), for example, “Turn system icons on and off.”

Next, you can manually set what you want to see in the taskbar and what not. Regarding the volume icon - turn it on and off. Often such a restart helps solve the problem of its invisibility or inactivity.

Turn Windows 10 system icons on or off

STEP 4 - are icons hidden in the Group Policy Editor?

To open the Group Policy Editor, press the button combination Win+R, enter the command gpedit.msc and press Enter .

Note: Group Policy Editor does not open in Windows 10 Home.

Then look for the option (this is for Windows 10), or "Hide volume control icon" (this is for Windows 7).

Once you open the parameter, see if it is enabled! If enabled, change the value to “Not specified” (or “disabled”).

STEP 5 - editing the system registry

Due to “stuck” parameters in the system registry, it may well be that the volume icon will disappear (or will not respond adequately to your clicks on it). To return everything to its original state, you can try deleting a couple of parameters that are responsible for it and rebooting the PC. Let's show with an example...

    First, open the registry editor:

    1. click Win+R ;
    2. enter the command in the execute window regedit
    3. press Enter.

In principle, working with the registry is not much different from a regular Explorer.

You need to find two parameters: PastIconsStream And IconStreams, and delete both!

Don't forget to restart your computer after the operation!

STEP 6 - checking and setting up the sound driver

When installing drivers for sound, they often come with a special driver. audio control center. Thanks to it, you can fine-tune the sound, select tone, echo, adjust bass, etc. What I mean is that you can work with sound parameters without a system icon (and in most cases, it’s even more convenient)!

    Volume2 or .

Thanks to such programs, you can move the sound settings to the place you need (for example, on the desktop or replace the standard icon in the tray) and not have problems with adjusting the volume (do everything in 1-2 mouse clicks).

Not to mention that you can bind the sound settings to the keys you need. The appearance of such icons is also very attractive and will satisfy any esthete (see example below).

That's all I have. For additions - thank you...

    All the best to everyone!
