• Overview of the budget smartphone Meizu M3s

Meizu M3 s- the younger version of the older model Meizu M3 Note. But does less always mean worse, or is it just a slightly smaller copy for slightly different tasks? We will try to understand this in this review.

    Packaging and equipment

The Meizu M3s smartphone is packed in a high-quality white box.

In addition to the smartphone itself, the package includes a charger, a USB cable, a key to open the SIM card tray and a few useless pieces of paper.

    The charger current is 2A.

    Design and ergonomics

The Meizu M3s smartphone is available both with a more strict black and with an aristocratic white front panel. We have a review model in black and silver.

It looks very cool and stylish. At the top above the screen is a conversational speaker and an almost invisible eye of the front camera, and at the bottom is conveniently located Meizu's proprietary multi-functional touch-mechanical key with a fingerprint scanner to unlock and protect the smartphone. After unlocking the screen, when touched, it works as a “Back” button, when pressed as a “Home” button, and the list of running applications opens with a swipe across the screen from bottom to top. At first it seems unusual, but then it turns out to be quite convenient.

The back of the smartphone looks great too.

Thanks to the aluminum body with rounded corners and edges, it is very thin, elegant and comfortable in the hand.

On top of the back cover is a camera with a dual flash, and on the top end is a headphone jack.

At the bottom there is a Micro-USB connector, speaker and microphone grille.

On the right side of the smartphone is the on / off button and the volume rocker.

The keys are moderately tight and have a distinct stroke.

On the left side is a hybrid slot for SIM cards.

It supports the installation of two SIM cards Micro-SIM and Nano-SIM, or one SIM card Micro-SIM and a microSD memory card.

    Screen

Meizu M3s screen has a diagonal of 5″ with HD resolution (1280 × 720). This is the most popular and easy-to-handle format.

A high-quality IPS screen has natural color reproduction and good viewing angles.

The protective tempered glass is made using 2.5D technology with rounded edges and has a good oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, which makes using the smartphone more enjoyable.

The touchscreen supports up to 10 simultaneous touches, this will not be a problem. Of the shortcomings, one can only note the fading of the screen in the sun, as with most middle-class smartphones.

    Performance

Meizu M3s is equipped with a modern 1.5GHz MTK6750 octa-core processor and Mali T860MP2 graphics chip. The amount of RAM is sufficient 2 GB, built-in flash memory for installing programs, games, photos and videos - 16 GB. If you don't have enough, you can expand it with a microSD memory card up to 128 GB.

In the AnTuTu test, the Meizu M3s scores about 36,600 points.

All popular games - Dead Effect 2, Modern Combat 5, NOVA 3, Mortal Combat X, NFS No Limits, FIFA 16, Asphalt 8, Real Racing 3, GTA San Andreas run well on it. Small performance drops were noticed only in World of Tanks Blitz, but were not critical.

    Wireless technologies

Meizu M3s smartphone supports the following wireless technologies:

    • 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
    • 3G (WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz)
    • 4G (LTE 1800/2100/2600 MHz)
    • WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n)
    • Bluetooth 4.0
    • GPS/A-GPS/ GLONASS

The reception quality of GSM and Wi-Fi does not cause any complaints. With navigation, too, everything is in order, within 15 seconds the smartphone detects about 20 satellites. Among the shortcomings can be noted the lack of support for NFC and FM-receiver.

    Sensors

Of the sensors, Meizu M3s has everything you need:

    • light sensor (for auto-brightness)
    • proximity sensor (turns off the screen when talking)
    • gravity sensor (for navigation and control in games)
    • gyroscope (for navigation and control in games)
    • orientation sensor (for screen auto-rotation)
    • fingerprint sensor (fingerprint scanner)

Everything is typical here, except for the fingerprint scanner. Its location in front is quite convenient. It works quickly and without any problems, helping to unlock the smartphone and protecting your personal data from unauthorized access. Up to 5 fingerprints can be stored in the smartphone memory.

    cameras

The resolution of the rear camera for photo / video shooting is 13 megapixels, it is equipped with autofocus and a bright dual flash. At the software level, face detection, HDR and various effects are supported. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels without any special additional features.

Pictures and videos in good lighting are good.

With a lack of lighting, as with most budget smartphones, a lot of noise appears in the photo.

You can download full-size examples of photos and videos at the end of the article.

    Sound

The sound quality when playing through the smartphone speaker is average. But the volume is frankly lame, sometimes it is not enough. But there are no such problems in the headphones, the sound quality in them is above average and most users will be satisfied.

    Battery and autonomy

Meizu M3s has a 3020 mAh battery, which is average today and not bad for a mid-range smartphone. However, the real autonomy of the smartphone is pleasantly surprising. It can work for about 7.5 hours of web surfing, more than a day of continuous music playback, 10 hours of video playback or 4 hours of gaming.

When used in mixed mode with medium intensity, the smartphone can easily last two days. And it takes just over an hour to charge. In general, here Meizu M3s definitely deserves praise.

    Dimensions and weight

Meizu M3s measures about 142x70x8mm and weighs only 138 grams. Therefore, it will easily fit anywhere and will not burden its owner. These are good indicators for a smartphone with a screen size of 5″.

    operating system

Meizu M3s is running the Android 5.1 operating system, which of course is no longer the most modern. However, the Flyme OS branded graphical shell, due to its beauty and convenience, enjoys well-deserved popularity and is constantly updated. The shell is highly stable and smooth, fully Russified and supports all the necessary Google services.

There is an "Easy mode" for people with poor eyesight, in which all fonts and graphic elements become larger. And the "Security" application protects the smartphone from various vulnerabilities, viruses, helps to keep the internal and RAM clean and tidy. In general, the shell is quite high quality and solid.

    Conclusion

Smartphone Meizu M3s can be called a kind of strong middling. Due to its compact size, it is convenient to use it as a dialer. But the screen size will be quite enough for comfortable Internet surfing, and a sufficiently powerful filling will allow you to play all modern games. So it will be quite suitable for most users who are quite satisfied with a mid-range camera and listening to music on headphones. In general, the smartphone is quite pleasant and smart.
