• Reinstalling windows from flash drive. Installing Windows from a flash drive through BIOS. How to copy the Windows operating system to a USB flash drive

Let's see how to install windows on a computer from a flash drive I will explain how for the first time I myself, not from a disk, but from a flash drive, launched the installation of Windows on my computer. I did it myself for the first time and after searching for various information on the Internet, I was able to reinstall WindowsXP on Windows8 on my computer without anyone's additional help. Anyone can install Windu, the main thing is that there is a desire and a little patience. If you doubt your abilities, then it is better for you to contact specialists or those who are familiar with experience. To be honest, the information found on the Internet is slightly different from the one I used to reinstall Windows on my computer, especially the BIOS settings from which the installation flash drive is loaded, and therefore I decided to write an article about this with attached screenshots, maybe someone will come in handy.

To install or reinstall the Windows operating system on a computer, we need a flash drive with a recorded image of a bootable Windows, if you have not already done so bootable flash drive then you can do it by clicking on this link, it's not at all difficult, the main thing is to have a memory card and a Windows installation image. Now, if you have prepared a bootable USB flash drive, you can start installing Windows, but before that, save all valuable information and files, as we will format the drive on which Windows will be installed.
To begin with, we restart the computer and during the download process we see such a picture somewhere on the monitor.

At the same time, while the download has not gone further, press the Del key on the keyboard to enter the BIOS menu and configure the computer to start loading from our flash card with the installation Windows. A window will open where we select the Advanced BIOS Features line and confirm with the Enter key.

In the next window, select the line further in the same window, a menu will open to select which disk the computer will start from when it is turned on. We also need install windows from flash drive and therefore put a tick in front and save the BIOS settings by pressing the F10 key. After saving the BIOS settings, the computer will reboot and start booting from our bootable flash card.

After we have done the above steps, the installation will begin from our bootable memory card.

    1) At the very beginning of the installation, we need to select the language of the operating system to be installed, select the one that we need, I already showed the Russian language by default, I left it as it is and proceeded to the next step by clicking on the button next.
    2) Step two, select install.
    3) We accept the license agreement, check the box and click on the button next.
    4) Select the type of Windows installation here I chose from scratch and clicked sample line, this method does not update the operating system, but installs from scratch. I like it this way more and this method definitely shouldn’t be buggy, and we are considering it in this article.
    5) We select the disk on which we will install Windows from our flash drive. It is advisable to select a disk and format it so that in the future you will not be confused where everything is located. The disk that you choose to install Windows will be formatted, but still save the most valuable information and files on some separate medium just in case. Further
    6) The installation of Windows begins on the specified disk of the computer, we will see the installation process itself on the computer screen. Successful installation processes are marked with a green checkmark, do not leave your computer until the installation is complete. Typically, installation time depends on the version of Windows being installed; it can take half an hour or one hour.
    7) After the successful installation of all items except the last "completion of installation" the computer will reboot. Attention!!! during this reboot you need to again get into BIOS settings Otherwise, the installation process will start over again. To get into the BIOS, we do everything that we did at the very beginning, that is, we return the BIOS settings to their previous state so that the boot does not start from a flash drive, but from the computer's built-in disks. We set up as it was before the change, change to and save everything as written at the beginning of the article. (If you didn’t have time and the computer rebooted completely, then you can cancel the new installation there and configure BIOS) After that, the computer will restart and after loading the process of completing the Windows installation will continue. Do not remove the flash drive until the operating system is fully installed.
    8) After successfully completing the installation of Windows from a memory card, select a name and color. You can change them later in the settings.
    9) Set up auto-updates and other parameters can be left as is or changed. If you need to change, select the settings and change as you want further.
    10) We choose a name for ourselves and the password can be changed in the future.
    11) Your computer is preparing to start.
All now you have completed the installation of Windows on your computer via a USB flash drive, congratulations!
In this way, I reinstalled WindowsXP to a new version of Windows8.

The next article will be about how to burn and install windows 7 from a flash drive. This is a really relevant today way to install Windows 7, since it is much more convenient with a flash drive than with a disk. In order to install windows 7 from flash drive you first need to create a bootable flash drive, from which we will install the operating system.

To create a bootable USB flash drive, we need:

    1. Windows 7 operating system image

    2. Flash drive at least 4GB

    3. Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, download .

    Create a bootable flash drive:

    1. Format the flash drive. Be careful, as formatting will delete all data from the flash drive. We go to "My Computer", right-click on our flash drive, take "Format" and where the file system is, select NTFS and click "Start"

    2. Run the Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool.

    3. Click on "Browse" and select the disk image. I will say that it does not have to be Windows 7, it can be XP.

    5. Select the flash drive you want to burn Windows 7 to and click "Begin copying"

    6. Everything, it remains only to wait for the creation of a USB flash drive to install Windows 7.

Now you will always have a flash drive with which you can install the operating system. All new computers support installation from flash drives, you just need to select a special boot item in the BIOS.

Why do I need to install an operating system from a USB flash drive?

After all, for this from time immemorial there are installation disks.

The fact is that in some models it is simply missing or broken, and you need to reinstall the operating system.

And carrying (and storing) a flash drive is much more convenient than a CD-RW.

The installation process itself, if you understand the issue, is not so complicated.

It can be divided into several stages:

    • Copy operating system to flash drive
    • Prepare your computer for installation
    • Set BIOS to Boot
    • Install operating system

Of course, if you are on “you” with a computer, then you can cope with the task if you spend some time clarifying some points of the process on the Internet.

If knowledge on this topic is not enough, then this article will help you choose the right vector of work, and direct your energy and desire to do everything yourself in the right direction.

So, let's go through each item in more detail.

How to copy the Windows operating system to a USB flash drive

As it becomes clear from the title, the first thing you will need to do is copy something somewhere. This something is an image of the necessary operating system. Somewhere - our, in the future, installation flash drive.

    To copy we need:

    • flash drive with 4 GB or more. It all depends on which OS you want to download and then install on your laptop or computer.
    • image burning program (WinToFlash, WinSetupFromUSB), which can be downloaded from the Internet.
    • the image of the operating system.

You can buy a new flash drive or use an existing one.

    Programs for installation

We download the program for recording the image from the Internet (there will be no problems with this item - you can find anything on the network)

We download the image of the operating system from a more or less normal torrent tracker.

Be sure to remember exactly where the image is saved on the computer: the name of the disk, the name of the folder.

For this purpose, you can create a special folder NOT on the desktop and NOT on drive C. You will find out why later.

Tip: before starting work, transfer the information from the USB flash drive (if it is not new) that you are going to use to another medium! Since, in the process of transferring the operating system to a USB flash drive, all information on it will be erased forever.

We download the program. For example, WinToFlash.

After the program is downloaded, run it.

In the window that opens, select the OS that we need to copy from the list.

In the window that opens, specify the path to the image of the operating system (the one that we remembered in the previous paragraph).

That is, from the drop-down list, select the drive, folder and the file itself.

And in the next drop-down line - to the media on which this image will be stored, that is, a flash drive.

We boldly press the "Run" button and wait while the process of formatting the flash drive and rewriting files from the computer to it is in progress.

The first step is done - we have a flash drive with which you can install the operating system.

There is another option for creating an operating system image - an image directly of your OS.

To do this, go to the "Control Panel" item through the "Start" button. Select the "Backup and Restore" section.

In the window that appears on the left, we are looking for the item "Creating a system image".

After clicking, a window will open in which we need to choose where the image of our operating system will be saved.

It is better not to save on your hard drive, but to use a removable hard drive for this purpose.

To do this, select in the drop-down list of the item "Hard disk" the media to which the image will be copied.

After that, the program will prompt you to select the disks from which the image will be copied.

In this case, we are interested in system disks. Put a check in front of "With (system)" and "Reserved by the system (system)". It is from them that information will be archived.

In the next window that appears, you will need to confirm the archiving.

In it you will also see the amount of memory that the image will take, as well as the disks that were selected.

    Making archiving

If you have no objections at this stage, then you can start the process by clicking the "Archive" button in the lower right corner of the monitor.

The duration will depend on the amount of information being archived. But the ability of your computer will play an important role.

If the machine slows down during operation, then it will not fly during archiving.

After the end of this process, the system will specify whether you want to write the received archive to a removable disk. Given that you just saved the data there, we refuse this offer.

At the moment you are the proud owner of a backup recorded on a removable disk. Yes, the name of the created archive is Windows Image Backup.

    Preparing your computer for reinstallation

The operating system of a computer is the main part of the system software.

The OS is responsible for managing your computer's resources. Failure of the operating system leads to the failure of the entire PC.

It sounds serious, but this does not mean that the reinstallation process itself is so complicated and incomprehensible.

All computer preparation, by and large, comes down to copying the files you need from drive C to another drive, for example, D or any removable media.

Perhaps these are necessary programs, network card drivers, important files saved on the C drive.

At this stage, it is better not to be lazy and look through all the files of the C drive.

This is necessary so that later you do not grab your head and do not waste time restoring some important, but not saved document.

Tip: it is initially undesirable to store any files that are not involved in the operation of the system on the system drive C. If the download of files initially occurs in the “Downloads” (or “Download”) folder on drive C (Fig. 4), then they are still it is better to transfer to another disk. Don't litter the C drive.

After everything you need has been successfully duplicated on another disk, the contents of the system disk have been checked again, you can proceed to the next step.

    BIOS setup for OS boot

First, let's find out what a BIOS is. BIOS are microprograms that are responsible for managing the settings of the components of the system unit, as well as loading the operating system.

The BIOS is located on the motherboard, which controls the operation of all computer components and is responsible for their correct interaction during operation.

Tip: the mouse does not work in the BIOS, so we do not torture it to no avail, but use the arrow keys, ENTER, or read the "Help" section in the same BIOS.

You can enter the BIOS while the computer is booting during startup or reboot.

To do this, during boot, when a black screen appears on the monitor with white letters and a logo in the upper right corner of the screen, press the Delete key, or ESC, or F2.

The system itself will tell you which key to press. The hint will be written in white letters on a black screen at the bottom or in the center, depending on the brand (Fig. 5).

Entering the BIOS, you need to find and enter the menu section Bootable Device Priority or menu item BOOT. Options for the appearance of the BIOS window are different .

In the Bootable Device Priority folder, select the CD-ROM Boot Priority or JetFlashTranced or USB-HDD item. Depending on the manufacturer, the BIOS menu may look different.

If these options do not match the options of your BIOS, then we navigate the menu, relying on our knowledge of English and intuition.

In order not to get stuck at this stage, you can, before you start installing Windows on your laptop or computer, study the principle of your BIOS on the Internet.

There is a lot of information on the web, both textual and video.

After spending relatively little time and digging through several specialized sites, you can get information that will allow you to complete the reinstallation process without any problems.

By selecting the desired item, which will tell the computer that the next boot will occur not from the hard disk, but from USB, you can exit the BIOS, saving all changes.

Installing an operating system from a flash drive

Provided that all the previous steps are performed correctly, the following window will appear on the monitor during the reboot.

    Or as in Figure 14:

We press, as requested, any key (Press any key ...).

A Windows installation window appears, where, for starters, they are asked to select a language, country, and time format.

Since the installation is what this whole process was started for, we press it without hesitation.

In the list that appears, select the version of the operating system that we need.

But there is one moment. You must select the OS version for which you have a key.

The key is a set of characters on a small piece of paper, which must be attached to the bottom of the laptop or the case of the computer's system unit.

Therefore, before starting the installation, you must find this sheet and rewrite the key.

It will be inconvenient somehow at this stage of the installation to turn the laptop or move the processor.

After choosing the operating system to download, we agree in the next window with the license terms (without agreeing to these very conditions, the system will not allow you to continue installing the OS from a USB flash drive) and in the next window select the type of installation.

    Click on Complete Installation.

The next window will prompt us to select the partition where the Windows operating system will be installed from the USB flash drive.

From the existing list, select the item whose type is called "System".

And click "Disk Setup". Several items will appear at the bottom of the window.

Of these, select "Format". When choosing this item, we agree with the warning about the possibility of losing files or programs from the system disk.

We agree without hesitation! After all, before reinstalling the operating system, we copied everything you need to a safe place. From there, everything important can be restored in the new OS.

After the system disk is formatted, click the "Next" button at the bottom of the window. And we humbly wait while the installation is in progress.

The system will then prompt you to enter your username and computer name.

You will be given the opportunity to set a password and enter a hint for it, just in case.

Then you may just need the same key that was recommended above to be written off from the sticker on the computer case.

This is followed by the choice of security mode, time and date. Probably, if you have the necessary driver in the system, you will be prompted to select the type of network connection.

If this item did not appear during the installation process, then the drivers for the network connection will have to be installed separately.

This is where the installation of the operating system from a USB flash drive ends.

Now you can begin to fill the brand new system with the necessary (and not so) programs and drivers.

And finally: you must definitely return to the BIOS and return the settings from the “USB” item to the “Hard disk” item.

You don't want to force your computer to search for a USB flash drive again and again when it boots up, do you?

So, Windows is installed. What conclusions can be drawn after going through the process of self-installing the OS from a USB flash drive?

Conclusion: the time spent once in the future is compensated by savings on maintaining your own computer.

We will keep silent about the knowledge gained in the process of reinstalling the operating system. Knowledge is power.

When buying a new computer or laptop, as a rule, in specialized stores, the buyer can immediately use the paid service for installing the operating system on the purchased PC, as well as some programs, including antivirus programs.

Working according to the standard scheme, in this case, the specialist will install the OS by default, without dividing the hard disk volume into sections. As a result, the system local disk will contain both the OS, the software package, and all kinds of multimedia files that are completely unrelated to the system.

And when the time comes for the next reinstallation of the OS, the user may permanently lose all data on this computer. Of course, before that, you can copy the contents of the disk to another medium, but you need to take into account that the decision to reinstall the OS is not always made in advance, as in the case of a sudden failure, the so-called "" (complete failure of the system without the possibility of its recovery).

Therefore, you should learn how to install Windows yourself. In fact, this is not as difficult as it may seem to a beginner, and even more so it will save money, gain the necessary knowledge in working with a computer and save yourself from trouble with the loss of valuable information on your hard drive.

How to remove windows 7 and install windows 7: necessary steps before installing the OS

So, it is important to emphasize that during the installation process, immediately before changing the OS, all information on the system local drive C will be erased. Therefore, the necessary data will have to be transferred either to another local drive or to external media (CD, flash drive, removable drive or backup hard drive).

Accordingly, all files displayed on the desktop will also disappear, and the operation of previously installed programs will be impossible in the future, since before installing a new OS, drive C must be completely formatted, eliminating not only old data and system errors, but even unwanted, virus software, if any (and often it is viruses that cause system failure, in fact, they are developed for these purposes).

The next step is to have Windows OS (Windows 7 in this example) recorded as an image on the media. To the question of where to purchase this software:

    • buy a licensed version in a computer store;
    • download the OS distribution kit from the Internet;
    • overwrite the OS image from another external media or borrow it for a while from friends.

You should immediately determine the bitness of the operating system: 32 or 64 bit.

To find out which one is currently installed, go to the Start menu - Computer - right-click on the general background - Properties.

Also, you need to write down or remember the total size of the local drive C and the amount of free space on it. This is done in order not to confuse partitions with each other when reinstalling the OS.

Then, it is advisable to make sure that there are disks with drivers for the equipment (or the driver versions can be stored on the PC, on another local disk).

A driver is the necessary software for launching and further stable operation of special PC equipment: input-output system (monitor; manipulators - keyboard, mouse, gamepad, etc.; sound and video card), external equipment (printer; scanner; uninterruptible power supply, etc. .)

If there are no drivers, you can successfully download them from the network even after installing the OS.

In the event of reinstalling the OS, the user must be aware that Windows, recorded as an image on the media, gives the latter the name - “bootable” (boot disk or bootable USB flash drive). And, since the OS image is recorded in a special mode, the entire amount of bootable media memory is intended exclusively for Windows, and system installation is possible only through displaying and changing the settings of the "heart of the computer" - the BIOS.

Windows 7 Initial Setup: BIOS Settings

If the OS image on the bootable media has already been purchased and the bit depth of the system is known, then you can proceed with the installation process.

Working with the boot disk, we use the drive; if the OS is on a bootable flash drive, plug the latter into the appropriate USB connector and reboot the system.

As soon as the title image of the motherboard logo familiar to the eye appears on the monitor, we begin to repeatedly press a certain key to display the BIOS, most often it is the "Delete" or "F8" key. However, there are other options: "F1"; "F2"; "F3"; F10; F12. In any case, in order not to waste time guessing the right button, it is enough to carefully look at the commands indicated at the bottom of the screen at the time the computer boots up, where the “hot keys” of calling not only the BIOS, but also the general system management menu are located.

If the user did not have time to press the BIOS call key at the right time, you should wait for the system to boot and reboot it again, trying again. A successful press is accompanied by a special sound signal and displays the general BIOS menu on the monitor screen.

So, the BIOS menu has opened, now you need to select the "Advanced BIOS" item.

In the next window, we find a list of priorities when loading the PC system, as well as the connection statuses of individual equipment. In this list, it is important to select the “First Boot Device” primary priority column, opposite which “Hard Disk” (hard disk) is entered, that is, the settings indicate that when the system boots, the primary reading of information occurs through the data of the hard disk, in particular the registry and local disk WITH.

But in order for the PC system, bypassing the loading of the old copy of Windows, to start scanning and processing information from the boot disk, for this you will have to change the primary priority of reading data. We replace the “Hard Disk” request with “CDROM” if the image of a new copy of OC is written to a CD and to “USB-HDD” if we install the operating system from a USB flash drive.

As for the older version of the BIOS, the changes in the settings are almost the same, although in general the appearance of the interface is different.

There is also an "Advanced" menu, and switching priorities for the initial reading of information is located in the "Boot" menu.

Selecting a volume to install Windows 7

Now you should wait for the Windows 7 setup menu to appear while the system copies data from the boot disk.

    As soon as it appears, select the item "Install Windows 7";

    architecture (bit depth) - in accordance with the current one (or based on the indicators of the processor and video card during the initial installation);

    installation type - complete;

accept the terms of the license agreement.

In the menu that appears with partitions for installing Windows, by the type and size of the volume, we find the one that is currently the local system drive C (just for this it was necessary to write down the volume of this disk before installation).

Let's start formatting it: select the required volume and click on the "Disk Setup" - "Format" button - in the warning message, click "Ok" and "Next".

Provided that the OS is installed for the first time, in the menu with partitions, only one of the main volumes will be indicated with a size equal to the size of the entire hard disk. In this case, through the "Disk Settings" button, you will need to delete this partition and create a new one with a size of 100 GB in its place, which will later become the system local disk. You should install a copy of Windows on it. The remaining large part of the volume of the hard disk will fill the niche of another volume, which we will also create next to the first one. Thus, we managed to divide the hard disk into sections.

When you click on the "Next" button, the automatic process of unpacking the OS files and installing components and updates will start, which will take approximately 30 minutes until it is completed. Each further installation step will be accompanied by a PC restart to save and accept the data.

Completing the installation of Windows 7

In the final stage, before the first display on the desktop screen of a new copy of Windows 7, in the system settings windows that appear, you will need to enter: username; OC product key; your account password, optional; interface language and keyboard layout. Next, another reboot of the system will follow, and then the desktop will open in a low resolution of 800 * 600 pixels. After that, you can remove the boot disk (or bootable USB flash drive).

Then, in order for all components and system updates to take effect, we find a shortcut on the desktop with the Windows activator and open it.

After activating the OS, we reboot the system manually and call the BIOS again, where we return the priority to the Hard Disk in reverse order; save the changes through the "F10" key and confirm the actions with the "Y" and "Enter" buttons.

So, the new operating system is installed on the PC, it remains to connect the necessary drivers and update them to more recent versions via the Internet.

Not every user has a DVD drive, moreover, rare PCs are equipped with them lately. But you still need to install the system, and for this it is most convenient to use a bootable USB flash drive. Let's figure out how to install Windows 7 from a USB flash drive - after all, you won't buy a DVD for this purpose.

Before proceeding to the installation, carefully study this article: various difficulties may arise in the process, which can be solved using one of the methods described below.

The installation process itself can be divided into the following steps:

    • downloading the installation image;
    • computer preparation;
    • creating a bootable flash drive;
    • PC BIOS setup;
    • Windows 7 installation.

Let's consider each stage in more detail.

Before you write the image to a USB flash drive and install the system from it, you need to download it. Today, there are a huge number of ready-made assemblies of the operating system, which are equipped with many applications and functions.

Very often, these distributions change the default theme or sound scheme. But not all users like such innovations. You only need to download original images created by Microsoft. A huge staff of the world's leading programmers does their job better than some artisanal modifier.

A little lower you will find a button by which you can download a torrent file for downloading the Russian version of Windows 7 with 32 or 64-bit architecture. The file is taken from the official Microsoft website and is completely original. Start downloading, and when the download is complete, proceed to the next step.

After the file is downloaded, open it with a torrent client. If you do not know how to work with such programs, follow our step-by-step instructions.

    1. First, download the torrent client itself. This will be the qBittoorent app.
    2. Install the program and open the previously downloaded torrent file with it.

    1. We select the version of Windows 7 (in our case it is professional 64 bit) and click "OK".

    1. After that, the operating system will start loading at the maximum available speed.

Getting ready to install Windows 7

First of all, you need to copy to a safe place all the important information for us located on drive C. Each user stores data in his own way, so everyone has their own choice of folders for backup. Most often these are folders: "Downloads", "Desktop", etc.

You can save files to another logical drive (the one on which the system will not be installed) or to an external drive. You can also use cloud storage if there is not too much data. For example, the Mail.ru cloud provides 100 GB of free space for free.

With an eye to the future, remember: during the operation of the PC, you need to store your data on a drive other than the one on which the system is installed. Divide the physical disk into sections and save your files on any of them, except for the system one. For installing Windows 7, a volume of 70 - 100 GB will be comfortable (depending on the type and amount of software used).

Another crucial point that should be considered before the installation starts is the drivers for our network card. If, at the end of the installation of Windows 7, it turns out that there is no driver for the network card, additional difficulties will arise that will have to be solved using a second computer by transferring files from it via a USB flash drive.

If the computer was just purchased, there is no valuable information on it and cannot be, feel free to proceed to the next section, without copying the data.

    Create a bootable flash drive

In order to create bootable media and start the operating system installation procedure, we need:

    • USB stick with 8 GB or more. Instead of a USB flash drive, you can also use a simple memory card with a card reader;
    • installation distribution kit "Seven" with the extension .iso;
    • a utility with which we will write the image to a USB flash drive;

Attention! Before you start creating the installation media, remember that all data on it will be irretrievably destroyed.

Making installation media using Ultra ISO

A well-known disk imaging program can create boot drives. Consider the algorithm for writing Windows 7 to a USB device.

    1. Download and install the Ultra ISO program from the link.
    2. Run the resulting file and check the box "I accept the license agreement." Proceed to the next step by clicking "Next".

    1. Using the "Browse" button, select the installation path, then click on "Next".

    1. We don’t change anything here and just move on.

    1. The program is being installed, we are waiting for its completion.

The Ultra ISO installation is complete, you can run it and go straight to creating a USB flash drive for installing Windows 7.

    1. The Ultra ISO program can be run in trial mode, so its functionality will not suffer in the least. Click on the button shown in the picture.

    1. Go to the "File" menu and click on the "Open" item.

    1. We select the Windows 7 image we downloaded, and then "Open".

    1. Go to the "Startup" section and click on the item that we marked in the screenshot.

    1. We look so that the media we need is displayed in the devices at the top of the window and click on the "Format" button.

Attention! This will destroy all your data beyond recovery. If you have the necessary files on the USB stick, save them first.

    1. In the next window, just click "Start".

    1. Ultra ISO will once again warn us that all information from the flash drive will be erased. Click "OK".

    1. After the formatting is completed, click on "Write".

    1. The process of recording "Seven" on a USB flash drive has begun. It will take about 5-10 minutes depending on the speed of the drive and the selected OS version.

Recording completed, our media can be used.

Consider a few more options for creating bootable media with Windows 7.

    Rufus

This is another program that can create a bootable USB flash drive with Seven. First, let's download it.

The application, unlike Ultra ISO, does not require installation, so you can run the downloaded file and immediately proceed to the process of burning the OS to a USB device. To do this, we do the following:

    1. Select a recording device. This will be our flash drive, in this case - 16 GB. Then click on the disk icon.

    1. We select the distribution kit downloaded by us in the PC folder.

    1. We begin the recording process with the "Start" button.

    1. Rufus will notify us that all files will be deleted from the flash drive. If you have already created a backup copy or there was no important information on the media, click "OK".

As a result, Windows 7 will be written to a USB flash drive, after which you will have a full-fledged installation media at your disposal.

Attention! Before you start the process of writing the system to a USB flash drive, be sure to save all the data on it - otherwise they will be irretrievably lost.

As you can see, this method turned out to be much simpler than the previous one, but we will not stop there and consider a few more options for burning Windows 7 to a USB drive.

Making a bootable USB flash drive using WinSetupFromUSB

Another application focused solely on writing operating system files to an external drive. Let's take a utility and look at the process of working with it.

    1. We select the path along which the program will be unpacked (click on the button with the image of three dots) and click "Extract".

    1. We are waiting for the end of unzipping all the necessary files.

    1. We open the directory into which the unpacking was carried out, and run the program, depending on what architecture your operating system is based on. We have it 64 bit, respectively, we click on the marked file.

    1. We insert our USB flash drive into the USB port and make sure that it is displayed in WinSetupFromUSB. Next, check the box marked with the number "2" in the screenshot. When the bird is placed, click on the icon with the image of three dots, marked with the number "3".

    1. Select the image of our operating system and click on "Open".

    1. It remains only to press the "GO" key and the recording of Windows 7 will begin.

Windows 7 is being written to an external drive. Once the process is completed, the flash drive can be used to install the system.

We will not stop at WinSetupFromUSB and will tell you how to burn the OS to media using the Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool from Microsoft.

    Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

This is the official application from Microsoft, so it should be the one that, in theory, should best cope with the task of burning Windows 7 to a USB flash drive. Let's get started with the program.

    1. First, download the utility from the link from the official site. Then run it and click on the "Next" button.

    1. We are waiting for the program to install.

    1. We complete the installation process by clicking on the “Finish” button.

    1. We proceed to work with the program. Initially, you need to specify the file that we will write. To do this, click the "Browse" button.

    1. After the path to the image file is registered, you can proceed to the next step - click "Next".

    1. Here you should select the type of media on which we will put the "Seven". Since we have a USB flash drive, we click on "USB device".

    1. We look for our drive to be displayed in the field marked with the number "1", and click on the "Begin copying" button.

    1. After that, we will be warned that all information from the media will be erased and after confirmation, the process of transferring Windows 7 to a USB drive will start.

Upon completion, we will receive a bootable USB flash drive, with which it is easy to install OS on a computer.

The program requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 library. If you do not have it, then download the program from the official Microsoft website.

    We use the UNetBootin program

The UNetBootin utility is completely free. you can download it without registering or sending SMS. The program does not need to be installed - it works immediately after downloading. An application was created not only for writing to a Windows flash drive, but also for other operating systems, such as Linux or Mac OS.

We proceed to the instructions for working with the application.

    1. First of all, set the checkbox to the “Disk Image” position and click on the button with the ellipsis image. In the window that opens, we need a Windows distribution.

    1. In the drop-down list marked with the number "1", select the USB device, indicate our flash drive and click "OK".

    1. The application will warn us that all the data that is already on the flash drive will be irretrievably lost. If we do not need them, click "Yes to All".

The distribution package is being written to the USB device. After it is completed, the USB flash drive can be used to install the OS.

    Command line

You can create bootable media with the Seven without using any programs by the forces of the system itself. For this we will use the command line.

The whole process is described in the form of detailed step-by-step instructions, each step of which is accompanied by a screenshot for clarity.

    1. Initially, we start the command line. This must be done exclusively as an administrator. We will create bootable media using the example of Windows 10, but in the same way you can get the result on Windows 7 - 8. Press the combination of Win + R buttons and press the "Browse" key in the window that appears.

    1. We follow the path indicated in the screenshot by the number "1" and find the cmd application. We click on it with the right key of our manipulator and select "Run as administrator".

    1. We write the command diskpart on the command line and press Enter.

    1. To start writing to a disk, you must first select it, and take this choice responsibly, because all data from it will be deleted. You can view the list of disks using the operators: "list disk", "list volume" or "list partition". The first two show the list of disks, the third shows the number of partitions and their names. Insert the flash drive into the USB port and enter the command "list disk" in DISKPART. Then press Enter. You will see a list of all disks currently installed in the PC.

    1. We select the disk that we need. To do this, enter select disk disk_number. The disk number can be viewed in the last step, we have it "1" since its size is 14 GB, which corresponds to our flash drive.

    1. Remove the disk with the clean command. Once again, make sure that you have made the right choice - all data on the media will be completely deleted.

    1. Now we need to create the main partition for the flash drive, from which we will boot in the future. Enter the create partition primary command and press Enter.

    1. Set the drive letter using the assign letter=drive_letter operator. Let's do that. We know that our PC has drives C, D and E, so we specify F. The final command will look like this: assign letter=F.

    1. You can also specify the partition size. If you skip this step, it will take up all the free space. You can set the size of a logical disk using the create partition primary size=disk_size command. The size must be specified in megabytes.

    1. We select our disk using the select partition 1 command (specify your disk number) and press Enter.

    1. Now we need to make our section active. To do this, use the active statement.

    1. It remains to format the flash drive - we prescribe a command like: format fs = fat32 quick.

    1. Exit DISKPART using the exit command. Now we need to prepare the files for recording. We unpack our Windows 7 image using any archiver (we will use the usual WinRAR) and extract all the files to our USB flash drive.

The installation media is ready, you can use it.

    We use the program WinToFlash

Let's describe the process of working with another program for burning Windows 7 and other operating systems to a USB drive. To get started, download the utility from the link from the official site.

    1. Install and run it. In the window that opens, select the item marked with a red frame.

    1. At the very top, select "Windows", then specify Windows 7 and press the button indicated in the screenshot by the number "3".

    1. Specify the path to the Windows 7 image that we downloaded. To do this, click the "Select" button.

    1. Click on "Add".

    1. We make sure that the flash drive we need is indicated as the target, and click "Run".

After that, the process of creating bootable media with Windows 7 will begin, after which the device will be ready for use.

Write a bootable USB flash drive using WinToBootic

This application is one of the simplest tools for writing operating systems to external media. To work with the utility, you do not need to install it, nor do you need administrator rights. It will work both with Windows files and with its images. The local interface is simple, and the speed of the program pleases.

To write Windows 7 to a USB flash drive using WinToBootic, do the following:

    1. First, download the program from the link and run it. Check the box next to "Quick Format" and click "Do It!".

    1. We answer in the affirmative to the request when formatting.

    1. We are again notified that all data on the flash drive will be deleted. Do not forget to save important information from the media, if it is there, and click on "OK".

    1. The preparation of the flash drive is completed, click "Thanks!".

    1. Next, select the files that will be written to our flash drive. To do this, click the icon indicated in the screenshot, and select the image we need.

    1. Press the button to start the process again.

The recording of Windows 7 to the USB flash drive will begin. When it ends, the device can be used to install the system.

How to boot from a flash drive

To successfully install Windows 7 from a USB flash drive, it’s not enough for us to simply burn the operating system to media, we also need to make the PC boot not from a hard drive, but from a USB drive. This can be done in two ways: either by modifying the BIOS, or through a special boot menu.

With regards to the Boot Menu, we can say that it starts with different keys, depending on the model of the computer or laptop. You can see which button is responsible for this on your device in the instructions for it. We provide a list of combinations for the main brands of computers and laptops:

Launching the Boot Menu on a PC:

Launching the Boot Menu on a laptop:

Below is a list of keys that launch the BIOS on different computers and laptops:

For clarity, we will show the process of installing a flash drive as the first boot device using the example of our PC with an Asus motherboard:

    1. We turn off or restart the computer and after starting it, press the button to go to the BIOS (we have it Del).

    1. This is what the BIOS looks like.

    1. Go to the Boot tab.

    1. We install our USB drive as the first device.

The process is similar on different computers, although the names of the tabs and items may differ. In order to understand how to enter the BIOS of your PC, read the instructions for it.

Installing Windows 7 from a flash drive

After the BIOS has been configured, you can proceed directly to installing Windows 7 from a USB flash drive. Let's get started.

    1. Immediately after the system starts, you will see the following window (the data for installing Windows 7 is being preloaded).

    1. Set regional options. Select the system language, region of residence, and keyboard layout. If desired, all this data can also be specified after Windows starts. When the setup is completed, click on "Next".

    1. In the next step, just click "Install".

    1. It remains to accept the license agreement, and the installation will begin. Check the box as shown in the screenshot and click Next.

    1. We select the full installation mode - this is the so-called clean option, when all old data on the system partition is deleted.

    1. We got into the partition settings menu. Click on the entry circled in red.

    1. If your disk is not partitioned, you can do it here (for Windows 7, it would be best to use about 100 GB of free space, the rest will become the D drive). Don't forget to format your system partition before installing Windows on it. When the operation is completed, click on the "Next" button.

    1. Finally, the installation of Windows began. We are waiting for the process to be completed.

    1. Next, the system will reboot and we are greeted by the Windows startup screen

    1. Initial optimization in progress. The system prepares all the necessary files.

    1. System services begin to start.

    1. After which we proceed to complete the installation of Windows

    1. We are again told to restart the computer. Before doing this, be sure to remove the USB flash drive at the time of restarting the PC.

    1. The system will check how productive our video card is.

    1. Now we need to enter our details. We write an arbitrary name and the name of the computer. Then click "Next".

    1. If necessary, you can set a password that the system will ask for when it starts. We skip this step since the computer will be at home.

    1. If you have a Windows 7 key, you can enter it here, however, you can do it after the system starts. We are skipping this step.

    1. Choose the system protection option depending on your personal preferences. We will be installing another antivirus, so we won't need a regular one.

    1. Specify the time and time zone. Then click "Next".

    1. Decide on the type of network. This is a rather important step, because if we specify the home network, and we are connected to the public one, our security will suffer greatly.

    1. The settings are being applied and the network is automatically configured.

    1. Last minute of optimization before our Windows 7 is launched.

As a result, we installed Windows 7 from a flash drive, the creation of which was described above.
