• Hangout App

    Many smartphone users have repeatedly encountered Hangouts on their device. What kind of program is this, why is it needed and how to use it, read in the framework of this article.

    About the program

    Hangouts is a messaging service, a way to organize SMS correspondence and direct video calls between its members. This messenger is the development of Google, which, after the release on 05/15/2013, could be seen in every Android smartphone as a pre-installed (system) application.

    The main goal of the program was to replace the services "GoogleTalk", "Google + Chats", "Google + Hangouts". Hangouts included features from all three services.

    What can be used for?

    Hangouts has the functionality of a modern messenger, with many useful features:

    • sending and receiving SMS and MMS;
    • creating chats for a group of up to 150 people;
    • making video calls called "hangout";
    • creating a video meeting with up to 10 people at the same time, directly from the chat;
    • calls to mobile numbers of smartphones (the call is free if the interlocutor also uses this application);
    • adding a photo from the smartphone's memory to the chat;
    • using emoji and stickers;
    • turning on the camera for photo or video shooting directly from the application;
    • synchronization with all devices connected to the account (Android devices, iOS smartphones or web client);
    • storage of data on a remote server (in case of loss of the device, all information will be saved in the Hangouts account).

    In addition, the application boasts:

    • optimal use of device resources for work;
    • relatively stable work, without departures.

    Hangouts was also not without flaws. Android users often mentioned:

    • "low" speed of work;
    • the presence of micropauses (freezes).

    How to use?

    When you first log in, the application will prompt you to go through authorization, using a one-time password sent via SMS to your number. After entering the password, you will see the classic interface of the Android application:

    You can also visit hangouts.google.com for the web version of Hangouts. Also, you can install an extension for the Google Chrome browser by opening the "Menu" and selecting "Download Chrome App".

    How to delete?

    Important! If Hangouts is a pre-installed application on your smartphone, you will not be able to uninstall it without root rights. We do not advise you to get root rights on Android just to uninstall the program, as wrong actions can turn your smartphone into a "brick".

    Hangouts can be disabled so that it does not use resources:

    Alternative software

    The messenger has an alternative and many of you are familiar with such applications.
    Among the popular and advanced stand out:

    Practice shows that not every user liked the messenger from Google. This is influenced by such factors as: the speed of work, the presence of freezes, as well as the imposition of the messenger on users of Android products, without the possibility of simple removal.

    What will happen to Hangouts after the release of Allo and Duo?

    Google does not give up and decides to return the audience that left due to the shortcomings of Hangouts. On September 21, 2016, Google announced its two new apps Allo and Duo.

    1. Hello- is a regular messenger, without the ability to make video calls. Users praise it for low consumption of system resources and speed. In addition to standard features, the use of an assistant and an encryption function (incognito mode) has been added to the functionality of the messenger.
    2. duo- an application for communicating with people via video call. Users note the high speed of work, the stability of which was sometimes lacking in hangouts, undemanding Internet speed for video calls. Separately, almost all users of the program thank the developers for the fact that when you call, without even answering, you immediately see the face of the interlocutor.

    Many assumed that Hangouts would be shut down as soon as Allo and Duo gained popularity. So far, there have been no comments from Google on this matter. It is possible that the application will be re-profiled for the corporate sector, where it has gained popularity to a greater extent. Unlike Hangouts, Allo and Duo are not tied to a Google account. For authorization, they only need a phone number.

    At the moment, each application has its own audience, is developed and maintained by developers.
