When images are printed, the thin channels of the printer's print head are filled with ink. If air gets into these channels, the ink inside them can dry out and clog them. To prevent ink from drying out, you must turn off the printer using the power button. In this case, the printer's print head will be moved to its extreme position and the print head channels will be protected from contact with outside air. Never disable the ink cartridge sensor or ignore the printer's low ink level signals. After all, the printer warns you when there is too little ink left in the cartridge and it is only enough to isolate the thin channels of the print head from contact with air. In this case, immediately turn off the printer, replace or refill the cartridge or CISS, and in the future remember that you need to replace or refill the cartridge without waiting for the ink to be completely used. When using CISS, it is necessary to prevent the ink level from falling below the red line. indicated on the sticker on the donor container. If you do not follow this rule, the air inside the empty cartridge will gain access to the print head channels from the inside and can dry out the remaining ink in these channels, causing them to become clogged.

As for inkjet printers, in which the cartridge looks like a replaceable ink tank (printers manufactured by Canon and Epson, as well as new HP models). You can only remove such a cartridge from the print head to replace or refill it for a very short period of time - a few minutes. During this time, the ink cartridge must be installed on the print head, so it is best to always have a spare refilled cartridge ready. If the cartridge replacement procedure is not carried out optimally quickly, then atmospheric air, which freely penetrates into the thin channels of the print head when the cartridge is removed, can quickly dry out the remaining ink in them and clog them.

There is enough ink or toner to print a certain number of pages, and then each printer owner is faced with the need to change or refill the cartridge. Therefore, you need to know how to change cartridges in a Canon printer. And although the design of different models of printing equipment differs from each other, individual components have much in common.

Laser monochrome printers

Perhaps the easiest way is to get a laser cartridge for a monochrome printer; this does not even require connecting the device to the network. The main thing here is to get to the very detail. For printers with a paper tray at the bottom, you need to lift the top cover (), which is used to receive printed pages. Then open the second one, which closes the internal mechanism of the device. Drum cartridge

Hot water will not remove traces of toner.

Preparing and installing a new cartridge

The next step is to install a new cartridge. We simply insert it, placing the protrusions into the guide grooves, without applying significant effort, and push it into the printer body until it stops. If something gets stuck somewhere, we remove it and try again, avoiding distortions. We close the lid, wait for it to enter the working state and print a test page (some printer models will offer to do this through a proprietary program window, others will print automatically, the rest will require instructions for action).

About the nuances

Technically, replacing ink cartridges is identical to working with laser cartridges, but there are some nuances. Modern color inkjet printers allow you to replace individual ink reservoirs as they are used up. Typically, the cartridge compartment cover is located on the back or top of the printer. Epson suggests users use the “ink replacement” mode; for others, just turn on the machine.

The inkjet printer itself sends the print head of the cartridge to the access zone. In color models there will be several reservoirs, and each can be replaced separately. Canon may have two black tanks - they are different, and must be replaced according to the type. Each “jar” is secured with a latch, so you need to remove it by lightly pressing on it or pulling it up. The new cartridge is installed until the latch clicks. Excessive zeal can lead to breakage.

Replacing a cartridge in a Canon Pixma IP printer is a little more complicated due to the configuration of the printing device. To make it more convenient, you should remove the entire print head from the case and change the ink tanks outside the case. As a rule, this is done by pressing from top to bottom with the latch bent. After replacement, the head is installed until the clamp clicks.

Printer cartridges have a certain ink capacity; in addition, each equipment model consumes a different amount of ink. Over time, the ink runs out, resulting in streaks appearing on the finished sheets, the image becomes blurry or errors occur and the indicators on the device itself light up.
