So, how to make a transparent background in Photoshop?

Launch Photoshop and open the experimental photo. Click the File – Open menu and specify the location of the image.

Great, the photo is open and let's start cropping the background. First of all, we need to unlock the layer. Pay attention to the lower right corner of the program. There you will see the main layer of our photo and small padlock.

This lock needs to disappear, that is, the layer is unlocked. To do this, straight to the lock make one click with the left mouse button. And the lock is gone!

Now we need to remove the background. To do this, take some kind of selection tool, for example, Wand.

Click the tool on the background of the photo, thus selecting the object we do not need.

From time to time, many users are faced with the need to change the transparency of an image. First of all, this action involves removing the background, but sometimes you need to make the entire picture or photograph transparent to one degree or another. Of course, it is much more convenient to process and modify graphic files, remove the background or other elements from them using specialized programs– editors. But when there is no such software or there is no desire to install it on the computer, it is quite possible to resort to one of the many. Fortunately, they cope well with the task set before us, allowing us not only to make the image transparent, but also to perform a number of other manipulations.

Note: You can achieve the desired transparency effect without much effort with PNG files. But with JPEG, in which, for example, photographs are saved, certain problems may arise.

Method 1: IMGOnline

This web service provides quite extensive opportunities for working with graphic files. Thus, its arsenal includes tools for resizing, compressing, cropping, converting images and processing them with effects. Of course, there is also a function we need here - changing transparency.

Once on the site, click on the button "Select file". A standard window will open "Conductor" Windows, in it, go to the folder with the picture whose transparency you want to change. Select it and click the button "Open".

The next step is to configure the background replacement settings. If you need transparent, we don’t change anything in this section. If you need to replace it with another plain background, select any available one from the drop-down list. Additionally, you can enter the HEX color code or open the palette and select the appropriate shade from it.

Having decided on the background parameters, we select the format for saving the processed image. We recommend checking the box next to the PNG extension, and then clicking "OK".

The image will be processed instantly.

or immediately save to your computer.

This is how easy it is to change the transparency of a photo, or rather its background, using the IMGOnline online service. However, it also has disadvantages - only a homogeneous background can be changed in really high quality, ideally. If it has shades or is simply multi-colored, only one of the colors will be removed. In addition, the service’s algorithms cannot be called smart enough, and if the background color matches the color of some element in the image, it will also become transparent.

Method 2: Photo Street

The next site we'll look at offers a completely different approach to creating transparent pictures. It actually makes it look like it, rather than just removing the uniform background. The Photo Street web service will be useful in cases where it is necessary to lighten an image, for example, to overlay it on another or use it as a branded background for a document or a watermark. Let's look at how to work with it.

On home page site click on the button "Open photo editor".

Next, you may need to allow the web service to use, for which you just need to click on empty field and then press "Allow" in a pop-up window. In the photo editor that appears, click on the one located in the right top corner button "Upload photo".

Next click "Upload from computer" or choose the second option if you have a link to the image on the Internet.

On the updated web service page, click the button "Select photo", in the system window that opens "Conductor" go to the folder with the image, select it and click "Open".

When the image is added to the photo editor, click on the button located at the bottom of the left panel "Effects".

In the upper right area, click on the round icon «–» , change the transparency of the image.

Having achieved an acceptable result, click "Collapse" to open the main editor menu on the Photo Street website.

Click on the button there "Save" located below.

Next, select your preferred download option. Set by default "Save to computer", but you can choose another one. Once you have decided, click "OK".

The service will give you the opportunity to choose quality final file. Check the box next to the item « Large size» and near the line below "Do not print logo". Click "OK".

When the modified image is saved, the online service will provide you with a link to download it. Click on it - the picture will be opened in a browser tab, from where you can save it to your PC. Changing the transparency of an image using the editor built into the Photo Street online service requires a little more effort and action than that discussed in the previous IMGOnline method. But he also performs processing according to a completely different principle. It is important to take into account the following - for images in JPG format, it is not the transparency that will actually be changed, but the brightness, that is, the image will simply become lighter. But with PNG files that support transparency by default, everything will be exactly as intended - the picture, while becoming less visually bright, will actually become more transparent in proportion to the decrease in this indicator.

In the old days, transparency of a picture or its background was more of a fad than a common occurrence. Those who remember the times Internet Explorer 6, I know this firsthand. Today, it is enough to open any website to notice the opposite. Various icons on gradient fills. Images obtained by gluing layers together. Colorful backgrounds of areas. And much more. When you have all the necessary sizes and types of pictures that can be useful, then all you have to do is take the appropriate image and use it. But, most often this is not the case. Images may be too saturated and therefore, before using them, the images must be made transparent. Of course, for one picture you can simply use the brightness and contrast tool, but when the picture is one of the layers that will be superimposed on another image, then this tool will no longer help. You can only have files in jpg format without a transparent background, so you will have to cut out the necessary part of the picture. However, such an operation is often accompanied by the appearance of various kinds of small defects that are visible to the naked eye (especially if you superimpose a picture on a background with a very different color).

On the Internet you can find a lot of articles about how you can cope with these problems using complex graphic tools. However, you can easily solve most of these problems and eliminate defects using any average graphic editor or online service. And here are some simple tricks and tricks that anyone can learn and which are performed very quickly (from 10 seconds to 1 minute).

Note: Remember that images with an alpha channel (transparency) must be saved in appropriate formats such as png and gif.

How to make a picture transparent?

In fact, making a picture transparent is very simple. All you need to do is open any editor that supports layers. And then in the layer settings specify the required transparency. And here's an example:

How to make a transparent background for a picture?

Making a transparent background for a picture is both simple and difficult. It all depends on what effects are used in the picture itself, and on how clearly the border between the background and the desired part is separated. So, for example, if the main part of the picture has clear boundaries and does not contain effects on the boundaries with the background, such as a soft shadow, then it is very easy to make such a picture have a transparent background. To do this, you open the image in the editor. Select the tool called " wand". Set the sensitivity, for example, to 22% and click on the background. Then simply delete the selected area. How to make a transparent background of an image and eliminate the defect by resizing it?

If the picture does not have clear boundaries with the background, such as in the case of soft shadows or smooth transitions contour of the picture, then making the background of the image transparent will no longer be possible in one step. An additional step is required to eliminate defects by reducing the size of the image. The essence of the method is that you take a larger image. Then cut out the background, and then reduce the image to required sizes. The trick is that when reducing the size, the editors smooth out the colors and their transitions, so small defects will simply disappear. Here's an example:

How to make a transparent background of a picture and eliminate the defect by increasing the image size?

When you have only one image, which also includes various effects and has unclear borders, then the previous trick for creating a transparent background will no longer work. And it is necessary to eliminate defects in another way. Usually, in such a situation, you can start trying to remove minor defects manually. Erase small pixels with an eraser. Manually select the edges of the picture and try to apply tools like “blur” to them. And so on. But, there is a much easier and faster way. The essence of the method is partly a continuation of the previous one, but it still differs in order. You take a picture and enlarge it at least 2 times. Using a magic wand, remove the background. And then reduce the image to the opposite size. Thus, most minor defects will go away due to the previous trick, and the image quality will remain approximately the same. Here's an example.

So, let's get started. We'll need Photoshop, but I don't have it. I use online photoshop. It’s a very convenient thing, I’ll tell you. And of course, the picture whose background we want to make transparent.

Let's go to online Photoshop. I used this one PIXLR

Select: Upload an image from your computer.

Now in the window on the right "LAYERS" I need to open the lock

Click on it 2 times with left button mouse, a check mark should appear in the box.
