Select the Pencil tool. Double-click the second smallest brush in the Brushes palette. Intervals (Spacing) up to ~250%. Now just draw a line with your pencil and you will get a dotted line. To make a line straight, hold down the SHIFT key while you draw the line. Another way is to click at the starting point, then SHIFT-click at the end point of your line. Photoshop will create a dotted line between these two points. To get a variety of dotted lines, you can change the brush size and increase the spacing. Also, you can download a set of square brushes.

How to draw a dotted line in Photoshop... There may be several answers to this question. It all depends on what its purpose is. Let's say you want to play up a link by underlining the text. The easiest way is the text tool. Yes, it's a little banal, but it works nonetheless. We simply “write” the “_” symbol, so to speak. You can put one space. Or several. At your discretion.
The line can be rasterized. In the layers window, find the layer with the line, right-click on it and select the “rasterize text” command.
And now the second way. Let's try to create a dotted line in Photoshop using a brush. To do this, let's create a new document of tiny size. Let it be, for example, 7 by 3 pixels. And fill it with color. And let's proceed directly to creating the brush. In the editing tab we will find the “define brush” operation.
Let's give the brush a name.
Now select the “brush” on the side toolbar and go to its settings.
From the list of brushes, select the one we created and set the “intervals” setting to 300%.

Let's explore the third method. Here we will have to use the brush again. Select a 4 px hard round brush. And again we set the intervals setting to 300%.

In this material, as the title suggests, we will look at ways to draw dotted, dashed and dotted frames. Let's decide right away: we will draw all the frames on a new layer! Looking ahead, I will say that the method described below applies to versions of Photoshop CS5 and lower.
Creating frames from dots
Such frames are created using an ordinary round brush from the standard Photoshop set. Frames can be round or oval. rectangular, as well as any irregular shape, because they are described along a contour. Let's set up the brush first. If anyone doesn’t remember, to open the brush settings panel, you need to select the Brush tool, and then click on the corresponding button in the settings panel. In the image above, the following settings were applied for the inner round and inner square (click on the image to enlarge):
Now let’s create a contour, the shape of which should be the frame; this can be done using any contour tools, Pen Tool, Rectangle Tool, etc. The circuit can be either closed or open. Next, right-click on the outline. Important: the contour tool must be active at this moment! In the window that appears, select the line “Stroke path”. A new window will open where we will be asked to select a stroke tool. In this case, a brush or pencil (Pencil) will suit us. Let me remind you that your brush or pencil should already be set up. After selecting the tool, click OK, and points will appear on the contour. Dots made with a brush turn out to be somewhat blurry, so after applying the dots it won’t hurt to apply the Sharpen Edges filter and select the settings individually. Creating frames from dotted lines
Rectangular frames, i.e. consisting of vertical and horizontal lines do not cause any problems. You can paint them using a rectangular brush from the default Photoshop set. Open the Brushes control panel and load them as shown in the picture. Next, set the brush settings approximately the same as we set above the round brush. Then we extend the shape of the print a little, this is shown in the screenshot:
With this brush you can draw a horizontal line. But it won’t work vertically, or rather, it will work, but it won’t be pretty:
To create a vertical broken line, you need to rotate the brush mark by 90 or 270 degrees:
Now you can safely draw a vertical dashed line:
But if I need a dotted line in a circle or along any curve, then this method is no longer suitable. Select a round brush, set the print diameter to 9 pixels, and the spacing to 170%. We create an outline and trace the outline, as in the case of dots. Next, right-click on the outline and select “Make Selection” with a feathering radius of 0. Here is the screenshot:
Here's a simple way to create dotted lines. The big advantage of this technique over some simpler methods is that you use built-in settings for brushes, which opens up a ton of possibilities. No other programs are needed and no manual work with fancy channels or complicated mouse work is needed.
This is the result of a simple form. Let's begin. Let's open a new document of any size with a small width, let's say 200 width and any height.
First, select the Pencil tool, make sure that the settings are applied to all brushes. Before you do anything else, make sure to save your brushes if you already have a fancy set of shape brushes. You can play with the settings and can always load your previous set.
Double-click on the second small brush in the palette window. Your palette should look rough when working with the pencil tool. We'll look at versions of brushes with blurred edges later...
Now you can see the brush settings. An important change to make the dotted line effect. For the simple dotted line I created above, I simply changed Spacing choosing 250% . You can change this in any way up to 999.
Now just draw with your pencil and you will have your own dotted line! To ensure your line is straight, hold Shift pressed when you draw a line. Another way is to click at the starting point and then hold Shift, click on the endpoint; PhotoShop will make a dotted line between two points!
To practice, try playing with the settings for brush size and dot spacing. You can also download square brushes from Adobe Photoshop>Goodies>Brushes & Patterns>Square Brushes, this will give you square dots, use the same settings. Take the Brush ( Paintbrush) and see what effect it will give, the same thing, only with smeared dots. Apply all the same settings to the Spray tool ( Airbrush tool).
Along with the size and distance between the dots, if you need to make dotted lines in an oblong shape that are on the line at an angle, simply change the angle of the brush. You can change the drawing angle of your brush, which changes the direction of the point on your line. You are now an expert on dotted lines PhotoShop!
Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N). Now just right-click on the resulting path and in the context menu click on the “Stroke Path” item. A new window will open where you can select the Brush tool and click OK. And our simple dotted line will be created. Now you can delete the Work Path or use it further to create new lines. You can move, scale the outline, change its shape, rotate, add anchor points, the dotted line will repeat all changes to the outline. Just remember to stroke the outline on a new layer.
Creating a Dashed Curve Line in Photoshop
This method is used to create more complex curved paths. It differs from the method described above only in the shape of the contour. In the first case, we drew a straight line with the Pen, but to create a dotted curve, we need to draw a contour in the form of the desired curve, set up the brush as described above, and stroke the contour:
