• Phone firmware using the example of LG GT540 Optimus. Official LG firmware cannot be installed via KDZ Lg mobile support

This program is simply necessary for all owners of Korean LG gadgets, because it is with it that you can safely update your firmware to the latest version. Updating your smartphone software will improve its performance, stability, and, most importantly, security, because with each new release, vulnerabilities are eliminated first.

    How to use the program

To use the Mobile Tool, you must use a USB connection. After all, it’s not possible to flash a phone “dry-dry” over the air. Naturally, you will also need an LG mobile driver; if the system does not have one, click the button that says: “Install driver.” Next, select your model (you can see it either on the box or in the “About phone” menu, section about software information). Once the driver is installed and everything is ready to go, do the following:

    1. In the “USB connection” tab, select “LG Software”. Or go to settings and there find a menu called “USB Connection Mode”. Next, select “LG Software”.
    2. Then go to the “Memory card and internal phone memory” menu section and click on the “USB connection mode” item. Don’t forget to remove the checkbox opposite the inscription: “Data storage device”.
    3. The final step is to go to the “Additional functions” section in the WM settings item and click on the “Windows Mobile OS update” item.

The third point of our instructions is done only for devices that operate on the Windows Mobile OS. Registration for firmware is not required.

As soon as the preparatory stage is completed, check whether your device has a new firmware version, information about this will be displayed automatically, and install it. Once the process begins, the phone's firmware file (usually about 1.5 GB) will be downloaded from the network, and only then installed on your smartphone. During the firmware update itself, the smartphone will reboot into Download Mode. If the program does not see the phone, try reinstalling the driver manually. Also, using the utility, you can restore damaged firmware (revive a brick).

The utility can work on the following operating systems:

    • Windows 7;
    • Windows 8.1;
    • Windows 10

    Download Mobile Tool on PC

MobileTool is completely free. The program interface is designed in Russian. Using the button below, you can download the utility to your computer. Don't forget to back up all your data just in case. Mobile Tool has received extremely positive reviews about itself. And it’s not surprising, because this is an official tool from the LG brand. If used correctly, errors should not occur.

Today I would like to consider such an issue as phone firmware. We welcome only official versions of updates and firmware for LG smartphones. Therefore, as an example, we will take the firmware of a smartphone using the LG Mobile Support Tool software.

In this case, we will flash the LG GT540 Optimus with Android 1.6 Donut OS to a newer version of this operating system 2.1 Eclair.

    Announcement

After all these steps, you will flash your smartphone. Updating smartphones, including LG GT540 Optimus firmware, is not mandatory, but it can save you from many problems that you currently have, because LG adds fixes to the update. We wish you good luck and safe firmware!

If your smartphone does not want to boot normally, works poorly or does not work at all, you should try flashing it. Fortunately, almost all LG Android devices are flashed the same way. You can do this either using the KDZ utility or through the official LG Mobile Support Tool. We will now describe the sequence of actions.

This instruction applies only to GSM devices. The CDMA firmware has not been tested against it. The method has some dangers. If a failure occurs during KDZ operation at the time of bootloader recording, only a service center can restore the device. We recommend choosing a good cable in advance, charging the battery in the laptop, disabling antiviruses and turning off other programs. It is better to use the cable that came with the device and place it in the rear socket of the computer. There may be a lack of power through the hub.

    Warning

The administration is not responsible for the actions you perform with the device. This material is provided for recommendation purposes and not as a guide to action.

    Preparation

To get ready for work, you need to download several files

The official firmware itself in .KDZ format

Install all the drivers one by one and just in case, LG Mobile Support Tool. You will need it if the drivers are not installed (read the last part of the article), for the usual update of the official firmware and restoration of the brick. Unzip the KDZ folder to the root of the system disk. Place the firmware next to it.

In KDZ you need to find and install the msxml.msi package using the standard method.

Now we put the phone into firmware mode. To do this, completely turn off the device or disconnect the battery. If it is not removable, press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark and the device vibrates twice.

Hold down BOTH volume buttons and power button. After a few seconds, a yellow image with a caption will appear. Emergency Mode.

Now we connect the device to the PC and check if the drivers are installed.

If everything is fine, let's move on to the firmware. No - we restart the computer, try another port, cable. Without drivers, the firmware will not start! You can also try downloading them using the LG Mobile Support Tool. Read about it below.

    Firmware

Drivers are installed. The phone is visible. It's time to launch KDZ. Go to the folder with the installed flasher and open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe as an administrator. If it doesn't work, right-click on the file and set it to compatibility with Windows XP SP3. Flashing on Windows 8, 10 is not recommended. For your own safety, find a computer with Windows 7.

The KDZ start screen looks like this. Set the values circled correctly.

Now you need to select the firmware itself using this button.

Click Launch Software Update and wait. The utility may hang; the process sometimes lasts more than half an hour. It's better not to touch anything. Then progress bars will run across the screen, and you will see the treasured message about the end of the firmware FINISHED. KDZ sometimes behaves erratically. In our case, she flew out immediately after the procedure was completed. Because of this, the image is different.

The phone will reboot itself and begin charging. Disconnect it from the cable, disconnect the battery and turn it on by holding the “power” button. If the device does not work, try entering Emergency Mode again and flashing it 2-3 more times. Sometimes the LG Mobile Support Tool utility also helps to restore operation.

Updating the official software and restoring the “brick”

Nobody forbids you to try the official software update utility. It happens that it helps to cope with particularly obstinate devices. Open LG Mobile Support Tool

Click “install USB driver”, mark your model and wait until everything is downloaded and installed.

Connect the device. If it is in working order, but there are no official firmware updates, the program will write about it.

When the “start updating” column is active, try selecting it and following the program instructions. Everything is simple and clear there. There is only one drawback - the LG Mobile Support Tool takes a very long time to download the firmware. Don't expect a quick solution to the problem.

We hope everything worked out for you. Good luck with the firmware!

Often, when choosing a new mobile device, the consumer pays attention not only to the technical parameters, but also to the software component. From time to time, the developers of the manufacturing company release new firmware versions that may bring new functionality, improved hardware performance, or a new version of the operating system. Today we will describe how to flash LG smartphones and tablets using official methods.

Updating your smartphone over the air

The easiest and fastest way to update LG is the so-called “over-the-air” update method, referred to as FOTA in the case of LG smartphones. Typically, notifications about the availability of a new update come when the Internet connection is turned on after the device automatically carries out the appropriate analysis. When you receive such an alert, all you need to do is expand the notification shade and click on the corresponding message. You can also check it yourself by following the path Settings - About phone - Software update (in some Update Centers - Software Update) - Check for update. If there is an update, a corresponding window will appear on the screen where you need to click on “Install Now”. It is worth drawing your attention to the fact that the smartphone’s battery charge should be at least 50%, and better yet, fully charged.

Update via LG Mobile Support Tool

It happens that the developer, for some unknown reason, has not released the next update over the air, but it is available on the company’s website. The program mentioned above is just for such cases. It appeared quite a long time ago and does not offer as many opportunities as its more recent counterparts. However, the “old lady” is still operational and often comes to the aid of owners of LG smartphones. We connect the device to a computer with the Mobile Support Tool installed, after which the program will recognize your device and start checking for an available software update. If the update is available, then click on the “Start update” button. Requests for confirmation may appear, to which we answer “Next”, “Proceed”, “Start” and so on, while carefully reading the text displayed on the monitor screen. Upon completion of the installation, a corresponding message indicating the end of the process and a “Exit” or “Finish” button will appear. After this, we can disconnect the mobile device from the PC and use it.

    Update via LG PC Suite

The PC Suite program, or as it is also called PC Sync, has a richer set of interactions with smartphones from the South Korean company than the Support Tool and also allows you to update the software of your LG mobile device. We connect the device to the PC and click the “Connect” button in the upper left corner of the program window. After the device is detected, information about the phone will be displayed, including information about the installed software. You can check for the latest version of the software by clicking on the “Check for updates” button or click on the “Mobile device” tab, and then on “Mobile device software update”. The process of installing the update does not require any professional skills, so we carefully read what is written and make the necessary choice of action.

    Update via LG Bridge program

Like the previous proprietary software for synchronizing smartphone data with a computer, Bridge offers almost the same set of functionality, but the distinguishing feature is the presence of the LG AirDrive application (for remote access to phone files) and a clearer and simpler interface. This program was released last year and is mostly intended for the previous flagship device G4, but according to information from the manufacturer, the utility can be used in conjunction with all mobile devices 2015 and older. To install the update, you need to connect your smartphone to your personal computer, go to the “Software Update” tab in the program and click the “Software Update” button. Next, follow the tips from the developers.
