• What is ICloud and why is it needed? How to store an unlimited number of iPhone photos in the cloud for free

If you don’t know what iCloud is and why it is needed, then this article will help you figure it out. Let's get started. What is iCloud for?

iCloud is a cloud or service that allows you to store all your photos, videos and other files. But this is not all the capabilities of the application.

Let's look at everything in order.

    • Saving information in the cloud after making purchases in the AppStore or iTunes.
    • Save any files from Apple devices.
    • Sync notes, calendars and mail.
    • Synchronization with all Apple devices.
    • Find Apple devices if they are lost.

Each user is provided with 5 GB of free space upon registration.

What do you need to do to use this application?

Any Apple user has an ID, which is required to work with the application. When working on an iPhone, just open the application by clicking the cloud icon. After that, enter your ID and password. If you're on a computer, open your browser and load icloud.com.

    Photos

The photos you need will be available on all Apple devices. It is possible to give access to viewing photos to relatives or friends. They will be able to add their own photos to the albums.

    Family Sharing

Any purchases on iTunes or the App Store will be available to family members. Access will be provided to six family members. This opportunity will allow you to pay for purchases using one bank card; the child will be able to buy something himself after the parent approves his purchase through his device. Family Sharing allows you to track the devices of all family members on a map. All family members will have access to the geolocation function.

    Find friends

Your friends and family can always know your location. To use this feature, use the Find Friends app. Search "to" by name and phone number or email. It is possible to send your location to a friend for an hour, a day or forever. Searching for friends is carried out only after sending a request about their location. Friends must confirm the received request from their device. Friends on the map are highlighted with orange dots, you – with blue dots.

    Search for device

After everything that has been written, there is no longer any doubt why this cloud service is needed. But one of the most important functions of this application is device search.

Set up Find My iPhone or other device. By setting up this function you can:

    • find the location of the lost device on the map;
    • turn on sound;
    • lock the device using lost mode;
    • erase information from a stolen phone or iPad.

To use this function, go to this page via your computer. Turn on the Find My iPhone app » and look for your phone on the map. Don't forget that you need to log in using your ID to find your lost device.

How much does additional cloud space cost?

Paid access to the storage is available for an additional fee once a month. If you book 50GB, you'll pay $0.99. 200 GB, 1 or 2 TB capacities are also available. Access all your files through the iCloud Drive app on your iPhone or iPad. Change your tariff plan from your phone or computer. Payment will be debited from the card attached to the ID.

    Why iCloud?

The cloud information storage is located on Apple servers. The information is stored in encrypted form and everyone has access only to their own information. This storage is safe. Working with different documents in applications and saving files in the cloud has endless possibilities. Let's look at the necessary assistants that work with iCloud.

    Pages

Work with documents on your computer using a browser, send a link to the document and share the material. The latest version of the file is stored in the cloud and can be accessed at any time.

    Numbers

Working with spreadsheets on a computer via a web browser. Share a link to the table and convey the necessary information. The application is easy to use and files created in this application can be accessed both from a phone and a computer.

Share any information with your friends and work with the cloud at any time of the day. The limitless possibilities of iCloud are in your hands!

iCloud is a unique service from Apple that allows you to store and synchronize all your data between all iOS devices. The frame shot on the iPad instantly appears on your iPhone, and the updated address book on the iPhone updates the data on the iPad. The way iCloud works is quite simple and is clearly shown in the picture:

iCloud includes components such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find My iPhone, iWork, Photo Stream, Notes, and Reminders.

In order to start working with iCloud, you need to log in to your AppleID. To do this, go to the iOS settings and select the iCloud menu. After which we enter our username and password in the appropriate fields on the left. If you are already logged in as your user, you can skip this step.

Once logged in we will see a list of all the components that have been listed below. Opposite each there is a switch, which, as you might guess, is responsible for the operation of one or another component.

Each user has exactly 5 GB of storage available in iOS. You can purchase additional space, but you will have to pay for it. For 10 GB you will have to pay $20 per year, for 20 - $40 and for 50 - $100, respectively.

I would like to pay special attention to “Photostream”. All your captured photos, regardless of the device they were taken on, are sent to one storage location. However, the maximum number of photos is 1000 pieces, regardless of the tariff you choose. After you cross the border, the following scheme will work - the oldest picture is deleted and a new frame takes its place.

However, you will not be able to delete photos from the Photos application. Deactivating a photo stream will delete all photos from that device.

iCloud works almost the same on iPhone. A screenshot is immediately displayed, which provides information regarding the total space and used, as well as the global iCloud operation switch.

The list of components is completely similar and I don’t think it’s worth repeating.

It should also be said that the iCloud service has a web version, available at iCloud.com. From this site you can access all stored data, delete and move information. You can not only upload documents, but also edit them online. This is very convenient - all changes immediately appear on all your iOS devices. And only in iCloud.com can you delete photos from the photo stream - in this case, devices will leave only those photos that were taken on the same devices, and the limit on the number of stored photos on iOS will decrease, increasing the space for the limit of a thousand photos.

iCloud is a very useful and necessary service that greatly helps when working with a large amount of various information. Try it and see for yourself.

The weakest point of the iPhone is its memory (unless of course you have a model with 256 GB of memory), so using cloud storage is a great idea. It’s incredibly convenient when files don’t take up space on your iPhone and at the same time they’re always with you.

    Yandex.Disk

Yandex.Disk is the best cloud storage service in Russia. I asked my friends and acquaintances what cloud they use; they all answered Yandex.Disk. I asked my colleagues - most answered Yandex.Disk.

This is because Yandex.Disk has a large number of functions, such as an image editor, support for all platforms, a convenient sharing system, and much more. Every year Yandex gives 1 GB of free space, and for referring friends you get 512 MB.

For registering Yandex.Disk you get 10 GB of free space or you can sign up for an annual subscription for 2,000 rubles for 1 TB storage.

    Google Drive

If you want free storage with a large capacity and no less reliable, then pay attention to Google Drive. You get 15 GB of memory for free. Another advantage of Google Drive is Google Photos, which provides unlimited storage space for photos with a resolution of no more than 16 megapixels.

Like Yandex.Disk, Google Drive supports almost all platforms, and it is the ideal cloud storage. Google Photos allows you to store photos, Google Docs allows you to create and store documents, and you can also create spreadsheets and presentations.

Google Drive is a range of great tools and cloud storage where you can download anything you create and upload to store from any device. This service is pretty hard to beat since it's all free.

If there is not enough free space, you can rent additional space

    • 100 GB — 139 RUR/month.
    • 1 TB — 699 RUR/month.
    • 100 GB - 1390 rub./year.
    • 1 TB — 6990 rub./year.

    OneDrive

If you use an iPhone and iPad but prefer Windows computers to Macs, try OneDrive. It's also available on almost anyone and works similarly to Google Drive. OneDrive is already installed on Windows 10 devices, so if you want to sync all your iPhone data with your computer, all you need to do is make sure you're signed in to the same account on both devices.

OneDrive can also send real-time notifications when someone edits a document and shows who exactly. An exclusive feature of the program is the PDF commenting function, with its help you can highlight, draw and sign on any PDF file from your iPhone or iPad. If you need the cloud to store your photos, OneDrive is also a good option, and it automatically tags photos and categorizes them to make them easier to find in the future.

5 GB of free space, you can also expand up to 50 GB for 72 rubles per month, 1 TB + Office 365 for 269 rubles per month and other tariff plans.

    Cloud Mail.Ru

Mail.Ru Cloud is another excellent service; if for some reason you didn’t like the disks from Yandex, Google and Microsoft, be sure to try Mail.Ru Cloud. It's also a great service, with support for most platforms.

You can share files, watch videos in popular formats, without actually having to download them to your device. Back up photos from iPhone and much more.

Mail.Ru provides 16 GB of free space, if you need more you will have to subscribe, so +16 GB will cost 379 rubles per year, and +256 GB: 229.00 per month or 2,290.00 rubles per year.

    Box

Another good cloud storage service, Apple noted this application as the best for business. Like previous applications, Box supports most platforms and file collaboration.

You get 10 GB for free, but the size of each file is limited to 250 MB, if you decide to subscribe to the Personal Pro plan, you will get 1000 GB of storage for 5990 rubles per year and a limit of one file of 5 GB.

Real-time search allows you to find files faster, and you can rest easy knowing that all files are protected with encryption.

If you need to collaborate with files without using your Yandex, Google or Mail account. Box is the perfect option.

Owners of several Apple devices must know how to log into iCloud from an iPhone or iPad if necessary, because sometimes it is necessary to obtain data from another device right now.

For those who have never used iCloud: this is a cloud storage that not only makes it possible to store and synchronize your media files, contacts and other data. But it also backs up all devices, which makes it easy to transfer everything you need to a new model.

    iCloud features

Let's figure out what iCloud can synchronize? Standard transfer objects include:

    1. Multimedia content (books, films, etc.). Your entire library will not be lost either when moving to a new version of iPhone or when it breaks.
    2. Photos and videos. Not a single frame you take will be lost, which means that valuable memories will remain in your memory and phone account forever.
    3. Settings. You won’t have to find the desired sound level or design again - ICloud will handle everything itself.
    4. Messages and ringtones.
    5. Application data (game progress, accounts, etc.)

I would especially like to dwell on the synchronization of application data: some games allow you to use synchronization to pause a level on the iPad and continue from the same place on the iPhone (and vice versa), which is very convenient, for example, in the event of a low battery.

    Where to download iCloud?

There is no need to download anything; the cloud service has been built into iOS since version 5. All functions become fully available after a free update to iOS 8 and higher. It is also worth noting that registration is unnecessary: you use your Apple ID login and password to log in.

Do not under any circumstances share your iCloud data with third parties! They will be able to study all your photos, correspondence and other materials.

How to Login to the iPhone Cloud

You won’t be able to get into the storage through the standard Safari browser: you will be asked to log in to your iPhone and log into it, but in the meantime, you may need to visit the full version, and not the mobile one.

When might you need to log into the iPhone cloud?

Set up your email. iCloud gives you a free email address with the domain iCloud.com, which is constantly updated across all iCloud devices. You can also access your email on the iCloud.com website.

Open Settings on your iOS device. Click on the Settings icon, then, to check your settings, in Control Panel Settings, click on the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” button.

Add an iCloud account. At the top of the control panel, in the Accounts section, where “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” are located, click on “Add Account”.

Select iCloud. iCloud provides quite a few different services that you can subscribe to, and you can view your mail from any mailbox. To install a new mailbox, click on the iCloud button, which is located at the top of the list.

      • Note: To view mail on an existing account, select this service, enter your name, email address, password and account type, then click “Next”. After confirming your email address, you can add various components, including mail, contacts, calendars and more. At the end, just click “Save”.
    1. Create a new iCloud account. At the very bottom of the iCloud control panel, click on “Get a free Apple ID.” Enter your birthday at the bottom, then click “Next” in the upper-right corner of the screen.

      • In the “Name” field, enter your first and last name, then click “Next”.
      • On the Create an Apple ID screen, to enable it, click Get an iCloud Mailbox, then Next.
    2. Create your mailing address. Enter your username. It will be used with @icloud.com. You will then be asked to confirm your address. Once created, the ability to make any changes will no longer be available. To create your new Apple ID/email address, click “Create”.

Access to your mail. Go to http://www.icloud.com and click on the Mail icon. Any changes you make to any iCloud device will be reflected in your account. All your actions will be reflected on icloud.com, whether it's creating new folders or viewing your mail from another device.

Access to your contacts. To activate the Contacts service, you need to set the On/Off switch to the On position in the iCloud control panel. Any contacts added on one iCloud device will be visible on all other iCloud devices.

Set up your contacts. In the control panel, in Contacts, Mail and Calendars, you can make the following settings:

      • Sort: Sort contacts by first and last name.
      • Display Order: Sort your contacts by first and last name. Use first name and last name to sort your contacts first, for example Zilla Adams will always come before Aaron Zizky, and Brian James will always come before Jesse James.
      • About yourself: Set up a personal contact in your address book.
      • Default Account: Determine which account will be used for contacts.
    3. Access to calendars. To activate the “Calendars” service, you need to set the On/Off switch to the On position in the iCloud control panel. Any calendar actions performed on one iCloud device will automatically appear on all iCloud devices.

    4. Settings in calendars. In the control panel, in Contacts, Mail and Calendars, you can make the following settings:

      • New Invitation Alerts: Toggle notifications for assigned new invites using the on/off switch.
      • Time Zone Support: Enabling time zone support means that events set in a different time zone will be shown according to the time zone currently set in the calendar. For example, if you have your calendar set to Paris time and you live in Chicago, events will be shown in Paris time. And when time zone support is turned off, events will be shown in Chicago time (or whatever time zone you are in).
      • Synchronization: allows you to synchronize events from two weeks ago with all events. The more you sync, the more memory will be used for past tasks.
      • Default Alerts: Allows you to create pre-set reminders for Birthdays, Events, Daily routines. When you create a new event in one of these categories, a reminder will be set to the time of the new event.
      • Default Calendar: When you create a new calendar event, it will automatically be assigned to this calendar category. Customize this for the category you use most often.
      • Shared Calendars Alarm: This is an on/off switch. If On is selected, you will receive notifications every time changes occur in shared calendars - creating, modifying and deleting events.
