• Where are the settings in the Asus phone. Asus ZenFone Max ZC550KL - Tips, tricks, frequently asked questions and useful options. Performance and testing

ASUS is one of the largest international electronics companies in the world. Their main products are PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. When using such devices, we often need to take screenshots. And, not surprisingly, they are very useful for storing information. In addition, screenshots can be used to show others what is happening on the screen of your device in case of problems. We will tell you how to take a screenshot on Asus Zenfon.

Method 1: Screenshot of the screen on Asus Zenfon using a key combination

Asus produces a series of tablets and smartphones running the Android operating system. To take a screenshot on Android devices, you just need to simultaneously hold down the “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons for 2 seconds. A flash on the screen will indicate that a screenshot has been taken. You can find the resulting image in the “screenshots” folder in the “Gallery” application.

However, for some, taking a screenshot in this way will be problematic, since holding down the “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time is not so easy. Others want access to additional features, such as image editing and instant sharing. To do this, you will have to turn to a third-party application.

Method 2: Taking a Screenshot on Zenfone Using the Dedicated Button

By developing your own notification panel, you can add many useful gadgets to it. This is exactly what Asus did, adding a button that allows you to take a screenshot in one click.

To use this method, you need to set the Quick Settings options. You only need to do this once.

    1. Go to Quick Settings by swiping from the top frame of your device to the bottom frame. Click edit (2nd icon on the top right).
    2. Then, under “Choose tools to display in Quick Settings”, turn on “screenshot/screenshot”.
    3. Since you can only select 4 required tools to access, you may have to disable some of the previously selected ones.

Now, whenever you want to take a screenshot, go to the quick settings panel and click the corresponding button. The photo will be taken.

To take a screenshot on Asus Zenfon using this method, follow these steps:

    1. Go to settings => “ASUS Custom Settings”.
    2. Click Recent Apps.
    3. Select “Tap and hold to take screenshot.”

Now, whenever you want to take a screenshot, press and hold the “recently used apps” button and the photo will be taken.

    About the smartphone

Sales of ASUS Zenfone 5 in China started long before the Russian ones, so it was ordered from a Chinese online store, and safely arrived with free delivery in a month and a half. It cost $205 (I repeat, we are talking about the most powerful model). The contents are minimal: charger + USB cable, phone itself and user manual.

ASUS Zenfone 5 is equipped with a powerful dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 processor with a core clock speed of 2 GHz. RAM – 2 GB. This device can handle any application. Taken together with other characteristics, the price of two hundred dollars seems low for it. Other characteristics and capabilities are discussed below in order.

    Appearance

The phone looks stylish and expensive. The company logo is displayed under the earpiece, as well as on the back side. This is a 5-inch smartphone with dimensions of 148.2 x 72.8 x 10.3 mm. It doesn't seem thick thanks to the curved edges (10.3 mm is at its thickest point). Thanks to this design, it fits comfortably in the hand.

On the right side are the power key and volume keys. The location is convenient, you can easily reach them while using the phone with one hand. On the left side there is a slot for removing the cover. The lid can be easily removed and put back on easily, it fits tightly, there is no play or squeaks. At the bottom there is a microphone and a MicroUSB connector. On top is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and, apparently, another microphone (possibly additional for a video camera). In my opinion, the design of the device is very convenient.

Unfortunately, the touch keys are not backlit. But the presence of a missed call indicator was nice. How I missed this in my previous mobile phone. It is located near the front camera lens and blinks green. If the battery is discharged to 15%, the indicator also lets you know by flashing red. And when the phone is charging, the indicator lights up yellow. Already charged - green.

    Display

ASUS Zenfone 5 has a 5-inch display with HD resolution (1280x720 pixels). This is an IPS matrix. The technical specifications state that it is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 (this is very good). There is apparently no air gap, the picture lies close to the surface, and there is no illumination from the side of the frames. The colors are bright, the image is clearly visible from any angle, and on a sunny day the information displayed on the screen is clearly visible.

There is a mode for working with gloves. It works fine, but not for all gloves. For example, in thick winter gloves the sensor does not detect a touch, but in thinner ones it works clearly (in fact, out of three winter gloves, the sensor worked with two). Multi-touch recognized all ten fingers at the same time (more than enough for comfortable work with any application).

There is a light sensor, so you can enable automatic brightness adjustment to save battery power. ASUS proprietary applications also include a power saving mode. There are three options: turn on the energy saving mode, select the optimized mode, or configure the modes yourself.

As for the software settings, there is nothing special here - you can set the name of the SIM card, and you can choose a different melody for each of them. That's all the settings. You can also choose your own ringtone for each contact.

For typing, you can use either the standard keyboard available in Android 4.3 OS or a proprietary one from ASUS.

During the week of using the mobile phone there were no problems with communication. Signal reception is good. The speaker volume is sufficient. The additional speaker also has a good volume reserve, this became clear after setting its own melody, but for some reason the standard ones play much quieter at maximum. The speaker is not stereo, of course, but there are no complaints about the sound quality. There is a function to record a conversation during a call.

    Processor, memory

As mentioned above, it uses an Intel Atom Z2580 2.0 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Graphics – powerVR SGX 544 MP. The volume of built-in memory is 16 GB. Support for memory cards up to 64 GB is declared. The installed 16 GB microSD Class 10 card worked properly; a larger card was not at hand to test.

ASUS Zenfone 5 is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera. There is autofocus (it doesn’t always work correctly, so it’s better to use touch focusing). The LED flash is frankly rather weak, although as a flashlight (launched by a separate application) it shines quite powerfully (at a distance of a legal three meters). At night, with flash, photos come out of poor quality. There is a separate night shooting mode (Low Light Mode). It allows you to improve the quality of shooting in the dark with the flash turned off (the difference with and without the mode in the first four pictures). The camera can record Full-HD video.

There are enough shooting modes and settings: anti-flicker, face detection, anti-shake, white balance, panorama, etc.

In sunlight, photos are of good quality. In the example photos, no modes were used (except for two with a low-light mode), only touch autofocus.

    Front camera – 2 MP.

    OS and applications

ASUS Zenfone 5 received Android 4.3 at the time of release. There will probably be an update to version 4.4. Since the device was ordered in China, the firmware was tailored to Asia. The interface is entirely in Russian (selected in the settings), but there are many applications with hieroglyphs. There is also no Google Play app store. Instead, there is some kind of ASUS branded store, where there are no applications in English, much less Russian.

The problem was easily solved by installing European firmware downloaded from the official website. Flashing ASUS Zenfone 5 turned out to be surprisingly simple: you need to download the archive with the firmware from the office. ASUS website, unpack the archive, rename it to the name of the Asian firmware, copy it to the phone memory. Then he will detect it himself and offer to update. After this, there will be no applications with hieroglyphs, Google Play and Google applications will appear.

ASUS offers quite a few useful native applications, as well as 5 GB of cloud file storage. You will be prompted to create an account the first time you turn it on. There is an Easy mode, the inclusion of which activates a simple interface. Branded applications:

Do It Later – notebook with reminders
    Notepad (and even Super)

Splendid – adjust screen colors (temperature and brightness)
    Cloud file storage
    Contacts
    Gallery, calculator, clock.

Below are screenshots with European firmware.

    Performance and testing

Thanks to the powerful processor, ASUS Zenfone 5 has no performance problems. A significant dignity. The disadvantage is that the lid heats up in the upper half. It doesn’t matter whether you are running a heavy game, scrolling through websites or a gallery, there will still be heating (at least this is the situation for me now, when it’s +30 outside and +26 at home). The processor also drains the battery mercilessly.

The smartphone easily launched a 7-minute Full-HD video with a standard player, rewinding worked quickly, without any brakes. Information about the video: volume – 578 MB, resolution – 1920×1080, video bit rate – 11243 kbps, audio track – 192 kbps.

Over the past year, ASUS has released a series of devices equipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Not everyone using ASUS devices has been able to access this version of Android, but Zen UI features work on some ZenFons currently running Lollipop. We used ZenFone 3 to gather tips and help for those users who just bought a new ZenFone 3 and want to optimize their user experience.

    ZenMotion

ZenMotion acts as a hub of sorts that brings together all the functions related to gestures and other controls. By accessing this option in Settings, you can configure the system to perform various commands, such as opening a web browser by drawing the letter “W” on the screen.

ZenMotion can make life much easier.

You'll also find One Hand mode in this menu, which allows you to resize the system's interface, allowing you to better control the device in certain situations.

    Keyboard settings

The keyboard in the Zen interface comes with several settings. You can change the color, key layout, keyboard predictive features, and even download new dictionaries. The features we like most are the resizing of your keyboard, as we have a soft spot for small keyboards.

You can find this option by going to Quick Settings - Language & Input - Zen UI Keyboard.

Now you can customize the keyboard as you wish.

    Customize your home screen

It's very easy to find the customization tools that Zen UI offers for its ZenFons. All you need to do is move your finger from bottom to top on the home screen, a menu with several options will open.

It's worth clicking on each of these options to better understand the features of each menu, since many of them are not available in the standard system settings menu. You can resize shortcuts and icons, choose screen transition effects, or change other visual aspects of the system.

You can easily customize your home screen toZenFone 3.

    Individual settings

Go to System Settings, there you will find the Custom Settings option where you can add features like biometrics and sensors. For example, you can set up functions such as screenshot by holding down for a few seconds.

Make the necessary settings onZenFone 3.

With this tweak, you'll also be able to personalize the shortcuts in the Quick Access Toolbar, which by default handle options that annoy some users.

    Fingerprint

The biometric sensor adds security, especially useful when purchasing apps or unlocking your device. Like other manufacturers, ASUS includes an option that will allow you to add additional features to the scanner. It can be used to answer calls or quickly access the camera app. However, to use this feature, ZenFone must be equipped with a biometric scanner.

Biometric sensors offer an additional level of security.

Head into Settings and you'll find a feature that allows you to lock individual apps with your own password. This feature can be very convenient for quite a few users, and the added bonus is that you will no longer have to download an additional app specifically for this feature. AppLock works with any app, you only need to set a 4-digit password.

Protect the apps you care about most withAppLock.

    Mobilemanager

ASUS Mobile Manager is a utility similar to Clean Master, DU Cleaner and DU Speed Booster. The utility can clear the cache, data and optimize the RAM of your system. One of the most interesting features in this optimization center is Data Usage, a feature that monitors the mobile data usage of different users over Wi-Fi and 3G networks. It also shows data consumption graphs, which can be useful for those users who want to save on mobile data.

The mobile manager will help with data management and battery control.

ASUS UI is generally not that well laid out, but with these tweaks you can add a bit of functionality to your system's interface. These options will help optimize the user experience and go far beyond simply tuning or redesigning the system. This gives you the flexibility to use the biometric sensor for other purposes and gives you extra protection for your favorite apps.
