• Highscreen boost 2 operating time. General information about the device

The calling card of the Russian brand Highscreen, as many market experts and users believe, are large batteries and spacious displays. Experts praise the company for creating mobile devices with an attractive price and at the same time providing them with a large number of useful functions. Highscreen smartphones, as some experts believe, can compete with premium brands in terms of technology.

Most experts recognize the fact that the Russian brand Highscreen produces mainly budget models designed for mass demand. But in terms of a number of characteristics, and what is especially important, in terms of practical test results, some Highscreen devices are not inferior to, or even slightly superior to, analogues from more expensive segments.

Today we will study the features of such a device as Highscreen Boost 2, which has become one of the most popular on the Russian mobile technology market. Let's get acquainted with its key characteristics, study the opinions of experts and ordinary users. We will try to answer the question of whether a brand has emerged in Russia that can be a worthy competitor to the world's leading manufacturers of mobile electronics. Or are Highscreen devices more likely a product of exclusively internal use for undemanding buyers who have barely mastered the relatively new market of smartphones and tablets?

    General information about the device

The Highscreen Boost 2 phone belongs to the middle class mobile devices (some analysts believe that it is a budget model). The device is equipped with an IPS class screen (resolution - 1280 by 720 pixels), two cameras (front - 2 megapixels, main - 8). The phone supports the simultaneous use of 2 SIM cards, has 1 GB of RAM, and a powerful Qualcomm processor with four cores and a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz. The smartphone case is made of high-quality polycarbonate.

The device is controlled by the Android operating system version 4.1.2 (known as Jelly Bean).

A distinctive feature of the Highscreen Boost 2 smartphone is that it comes with two batteries with different capacities. The first is 3 thousand mAh, the second is twice as much. If the batteries are used alternately, then, as some experts note, the smartphone can be used for about two weeks without recharging.

    Design, appearance

Experts who tested the Highscreen Boost 2 phone speak positively about its design. The device has a rectangular body with sharp corners. The material used is plastic (matte in some parts, glossy in others). In combination with the main body, two different covers are used (each adapted to a large or small battery).

The front of the phone elegantly houses the speaker, which is covered with a shiny metal mesh. Next to it are two sensors - lighting and motion (proximity), as well as a front-type camera.

If a smartphone has 3 thousand mAh, then its dimensions will be as follows:

    Length: 14 cm;

    Width: 6.8 cm;

    Thickness: 0.98 cm.

The weight of the device is 151 grams.

If the device has a battery with twice the capacity, then the thickness of the device increases by about 8 mm.

The weight of the device will increase slightly - up to 203 grams.

Experts have different opinions regarding the ease of wearing the device. Some say that a smartphone with such thickness (especially if it has a battery with a larger capacity) is inconvenient to carry in clothing pockets. But many users who left reviews describing Highscreen Boost 2 believe that this feature cannot be considered a disadvantage. The large size of the device is not a cost.

Just below the screen there are several touch-type buttons. The largest of them is round. It has a white backlight and flashes when the battery is low. On the left is a key that opens the menu. On the right is a button with the “back” function.

On the left side of the smartphone there is a key that regulates the power button. The power button is located on the right side of the device. Testers note that it is convenient to use.

At the bottom of the case there is a microphone, at the top there is a micro-USB connector, as well as a slot for connecting audio devices.

On the back of the body is the main camera with flash, as well as another microphone and a louder speaker. If a high-capacity battery is inserted into the smartphone, the camera is immersed several millimeters deep relative to the housing cover.

The back panel of the smartphone opens quite simply (just pry it off at the bottom left). Removing it, you can find a slot for a micro-SD memory card, as well as slots for SIM cards.

    Build quality

The specialists who tested the phone felt some play in individual elements of the body. However, the plastic used to make the outer shell of the device is not too sensitive to scratches. The screen is well protected by glass. Many of the users who leave reviews about Highscreen Boost 2 believe that the quality of the materials used to assemble the smartphone is not particularly important. The most important thing is the functionality of the device.

    Screen

The smartphone display size is 5 inches (which corresponds to 11 cm in length and 6.2 in width). Screen resolution is 1280 by 720 pixels. The density is 293 points per inch. The display seems wide due to the thin frames: on the left and right sides their thickness is about 3 mm, relative to the top - 11 mm, at the bottom - 17 mm. The matrix manufacturing technology allows you to look at the screen from any viewing angle and always see a high-quality picture. Many of the experts who decided to write a review of the Highscreen Boost 2 smartphone praise the device for the pleasant color scheme of the images on the display. The backlight of the display matrix is quite bright. However, in direct sunlight, the image becomes, according to the experts who conducted the testing, not very clear.

    Batteries

As mentioned above, the device comes with two batteries of different capacities. They also differ in size. The one with the larger capacity has the following dimensions:

    Length: 7.9 cm

    Width: 5.8 cm

    Thickness: 0.45 cm

The other has the same first two dimensions parameters. Only the thickness is greater - 1 cm.

Experts note that the smartphone manufacturer chose not to directly indicate the expected battery life. As experts have found out, charging the batteries takes quite a long time – about 20 hours.

To assess the quality of battery performance, smartphones were used by experts in several modes. In particular, some of the testers tested the batteries while running the following applications on the smartphone:

    Video player (playing video with a quality of 720 pixels in different formats, maximum screen brightness level and high sound volume);

Browser (in which various web pages were opened).

A 6 thousand mAh battery showed the following results in one of the tests. With the video player running, it worked for about six hours. With the browser running - about twelve.

If no applications were running (but the phone was used for communication and sending SMS), the high-capacity battery ensured continuous operation of the device for 40 hours during tests. Of course, every review aimed at studying Highscreen boost 2 contains different data regarding battery life. But in general, we can say that the batteries provide a very long operation of the device without recharging.

Many experts also note that after the batteries were “calibrated” (that is, several charging procedures were performed), their operating time increased by about 20%. At the same time, as expert testers note, other smartphone users will experience different results during long-term use of the device.

    Phone memory

The Highscreen Boost 2 smartphone is equipped with a built-in RAM module with a capacity of 1 GB. Of these, about 500 MB are actually available. The volume of built-in flash memory is 4 GB. There are actually fewer available - about three. In the phone settings, you can specify the location where to install downloaded applications: in the built-in flash memory, on an external micro-SD card, or entrust the selection of the optimal file location to the operating system automatically. The maximum amount of additional memory that the smartphone supports is 32 GB.

    Camera

As mentioned above, the phone has two cameras: the main one and the additional one (front). The first has a resolution of 8 megapixels, the second - 2. There is an autofocus function, there is a flash, the main element of which is an LED (however, its effective operation is observed at a distance to the subject not exceeding 1.5 meters). Photo resolution is 3200 by 2400 pixels, for video this figure is 1280 by 720 (at a shooting intensity of 1 second).

Experts note the high detail of photographs taken with a smartphone camera. Some disadvantages include unstable white balance.

The video function allows you to create clips in 3GP format using the AVC codec. Audio recording quality is 96 kilobits/sec.

    Phone performance

As mentioned above, the smartphone runs on a Cortex A5 processor based on 45 NM technology. This chip has 4 cores, each 1.2 GHz.

The performance of the device is assessed by experts as sufficient in terms of running games and most applications.

    Multimedia features

The smartphone has a built-in audio file player, as well as a radio receiver. Expert testers highly appreciate the quality of sound reproduction and high volume.

The built-in video player can play MP4 and 3GP files.

    Resume

According to experts, the main advantages of the phone are its large screen and long battery life on two capacious batteries. The smartphone also has a technological advantage in the form of a matrix made using IPS technology and capable of reproducing a video stream in HD mode.

The main disadvantage of the device is its large dimensions. It is noted that the phone does not have many direct competitors. Among the devices that could qualify for this status are the Lenovo P780, as well as the Philips Xenium W8510 (both have a battery capacity exceeding 3 thousand mAh).

Experts believe that any shortcomings of Highscreen Boost 2 are more than compensated for by the price of the device (from rubles). It is lower than many analogues with similar functions and characteristics.

We present to your attention a rather specific smartphone from Highscreen. It is specific because it is capable of delivering the best battery life results among all smartphones on the market. Moreover, Highscreen Boost 2 was sent to the Guinness Book of Records for battery life results.

The model you will see below has the SE prefix. This tells us that the smartphone has received some changes compared to the regular Highscreen Boost 2. In particular, a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset was used, the amount of RAM was increased from 1 GB to 2 GB, the amount of internal memory was 8 GB instead of 4 GB, as well as support for microSD cards. The camera resolution has been increased from 8 to 13 megapixels.

    Equipment

The package contents of the smartphone are not quite ordinary. In addition to the standard 3000 mAh battery, the kit includes a 6000 mAh battery along with an enlarged cover. These batteries must be charged with a fairly powerful charger so that the process does not drag on for a day. The kit includes a 2.1 A charger. For your information, usually 0.7-1.2 A chargers are included in the kit. Also included in the kit is a USB cable made of fairly hard material and low-quality headphones that are scary to even hold in hands. All this is packed in a cardboard box, which shows the location of the main components and assemblies of the smartphone parts, as well as its characteristics.

    Appearance

The smartphone has a discreet, even slightly brutal exterior. The case is collapsible, the back cover is made of matte black plastic. It collects fingerprints, but they are removed fairly quickly. Under the cover there are connectors for two microSIM cards, as well as a slot for a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 32 GB.

On the front of the device there is a speaker, 3 touch keys and a notification indicator. I was pleased that there is no brand name or other unnecessary inscriptions on the front part. This saves the usable space of a rather large device.

On the top there is a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones and a microUSB connector for connecting to a PC and charger.

On the left side there is a volume button. The location is convenient, pressing is clear and understandable.

On the right side there is a button to turn on the smartphone, and, which is not common, a quick launch button, on which you can set to launch the camera, turn on the music player, the function of creating a screenshot, as well as any other application.

There is nothing on the bottom of the device except the microphone.

It is worth mentioning the build quality. On Highscreen Boost 2 SE it is not at a very high level. When using a standard 3000 mAh battery and its cover, a characteristic creaking and crunching sound is heard when twisting and squeezing. It's even worse when using the extended battery cover. The case begins to creak at the slightest load on it.

The dimensions of the device are as follows: 140x68x9.8 (14.8) mm. Weight: 151/203 g.

    Software

The device runs on the Android 4.3 operating system. There is no information about updating to Android 4.4.x KitKat.

Otherwise, it's just regular "bare" Android. Among the pre-installed applications are the standard set from Google, FM radio, as well as a cloud storage application from Highscreen, which provides 20 GB of space for your files. Of the 2 GB of RAM, about 1 GB is free after a reboot.

    Screen

Highscreen Boost 2 SE has a 5-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The picture is clear and high quality for this price segment. The black color, of course, does not live up to the flagships of this (and previous) year, but it does not cause problems in everyday work.

Viewing angles are good. The picture darkens slightly when tilted; colors may fade into purple and yellow shades. I was also pleased that there was no air gap between the glass and the matrix; the picture lies almost on the surface. The minimum brightness is enough for comfortable reading at night, but the maximum brightness is not enough; on a bright sunny day it was not enough.

An interesting fact is the “Screen color settings” item. With it you can fine-tune hue, saturation, contrast and brightness.

    Performance

The device is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz, an Adreno 305 video accelerator and 2 GB of RAM. The interface does not slow down except in rare cases. Using a third-party launcher, for example, Nova Launcher, can help with this. Almost all games run without problems on medium settings. No FPS drops were observed. Below you can see the results of AnTuTu Benchmark, as well as information about the device.

    Sound

Since sound is a purely individual matter, I will express my opinion. It will be enough for listening to podcasts, but if you want to listen to high-quality instrumental music, then Highscreen Boost 2 SE is suitable for this, let’s say, purely nominally. The frequency range is not very wide, there are dips in the low frequencies. It’s better to throw out the included headset right away - not only is it impossible to listen to music on it, but it was hard to hear both me and me during a conversation. Although I do not exclude that this is a problem with the test sample.

    Camera

Highscreen Boost 2 SE has a 13 MP camera module. The lens aperture is F2.1. The front camera has a wide viewing angle. The device has a single LED flash. The camera application is standard from Google. It doesn't have a lot of settings, but it's quite enough to take a regular photo without any artistic flourishes.

It is worth noting that the quality of the images is at a fairly high level. Yes, they do not live up to the flagships of recent years, but since the Highscreen Boost 2 SE can still be considered a budget device, the photos turn out excellent. I suggest you familiarize yourself with them below.

    Autonomy

The main trump card of this device. It comes with 2 batteries with a capacity of 3000 and 6000 mAh.

The capacity of these batteries is enough for you to easily go on a long trip and always stay connected. While testing the device, I used it to its fullest: Wi-Fi and data transfer were turned on, all synchronizations were activated, and push notifications were enabled in many applications. The result that I got in the end was very surprising.

    When using 6000mAh battery

    When using 3000mAh battery

    Conclusion

I can recommend this smartphone to people who need maximum autonomy from a device, but do not really need maximum performance. Highscreen Boost 2 SE has everything you need for everyday tasks. Two SIM cards, the ability to use a microSD card, a fairly fast interface, an average camera, a good IPS screen. Of the significant disadvantages, I can only note the mediocre quality of the case, as well as the large mass with an extended battery.

Highscreen Boost 2 SE is a very interesting smartphone in its price category. If you don't want to buy flagships from A-brands starting at $500, then you can look at this device.

It is possible to display similar models if this one is not in the catalog.

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer; it can control various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
    Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

    Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

    Problem solved

Pros: I spent a long time choosing between Zenphone 6 and boost 2 se. As a result, I bought a Zenphone for my wife, and bought this miracle for myself at KEY. I know everything about the phone, I held all the revisions in my hands, A B C, I bought C rev. In view of the front camera is 5 megapixels, A and B have 2 megapixels. I came home, changed the 3A battery to 6A and... the phone did not start) I put it on charge, removed the battery, nothing happens. I returned to the store, they changed it without any questions, thanks to KEY managers! It came out of the box with firmware 2.7 and was immediately updated to 2.8. I learned 4pda reviews and sections by heart. I was afraid of everything and everyone. But, I want to say about the bugs that I had: -blue screen -“Error in the application” -overheating -Antutu showed 19300, after a couple of days 6000 -contacts did not open/disappeared -messages arrived, were read in the history, were not saved -Viber did not sent messages (he sent but did not appear in the history) - loss of shortcuts to installed applications - reset during a conversation, poor audibility of the interlocutor - battery lasts for 4, then 2, then 3 days with approximately the same charge Disadvantages: There are many disputes about buying\ Don’t buy, the software/hardware is buggy. At first glance it’s very bad, but now I have this device in my hand and I haven’t noticed such glitches with it for a month!!! In order: -Blue screen when playing the newly installed plants vs zombies first part! The whole day periodically blue screen, destroyed plants vs zombies and voila, no blue screen. Well, I think why, if I haven’t played it all day and turned it off, but no, it’s constantly running a service. And the same thing happened with ICQ, blue screen. Already learned, deleted - no blue screen. I got used to it, installed 1 game, tested it, no blue screen, left it. When you install 3-5 applications at once, it is difficult to determine incompatibility! Well, it appears periodically once every 2-3 weeks, this is not critical than 10-20 times a day. - “Error in the application” I see it when I install 10 applications at once without rebooting - overheating, when everything is really turned on: 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi and I play a resource-intensive game for 3 hours. Now I turn off unnecessary things and there is no overheating! -You can’t play while charging, it’s already heating up, the battery is 6A, if you also play, it’s an ales stove! Well, excuse me, 6A charges, and you immediately discharge, it’s a vicious circle, isn’t it? -Antutu is not buggy and the device is the same! If you test the phone calmly, then 19300, if it is overheated by games, then 9000, if you play on charge and test it, then 6500 parrots! -Contacts, messages and Viber were glitching depending on accounts and time on the watch! I have 7 accounts with contacts, and when they crossed each other, they interchanged and interfered. I removed a couple, everything works fine! Comment: Viber and others that are time-linked do not work when the date/time on the watch is not correct (well, I play around earning crystals in games by changing the time), and I forget to return the correct date, now be more careful! -Loss of shortcuts immediately after inserting microSD. When moving a game from folder to folder. Do you feel it? -Battery switched off / charging, up to 4 days, with phone on. I charge for 2-3 days. Sorry, but this is a proven fact. As for 6A, it doesn’t last for a week, here’s how to use it. My wife has a phone number. lasts 12-15 hours, I have at least 48-60 hours, if you notice, I fully use the smartphone. I have enough! -Resets automatically in network mode, if you set 2 or 3 G everything is fine. Guys, I spend 3G traffic, when Wi-Fi appears I immediately connect to it, I use GPS every other day, I live in St. Petersburg for work, I ride often, I play games in the subway/minibus, surf the Internet, read books, watch movies/clips, online videos , I work with documents. The phone is worth every penny! The only thing is that there is no normal case, I bought a 6A flip, now it’s not a phone, but a giant, but I like it and there is a light from the LED on the right, it’s not fatal! There is a new 2.9 firmware, but I haven’t flashed it yet - everything works fine. In the future, when craftsmen make standard firmware or cyan, I will install fixes to improve GPS reception and communication. I hope it was useful!
