• Huawei P9 Lite mini - Specifications. Huawei P9 Lite Mini: external design

    Huawei P9 Lite was officially announced in the spring of 2016. This smartphone is a lightweight version of the famous flagship P9. This device has lost somewhat in terms of power relative to its older brother, but has successfully retained the overall design and some unique features.

    Appearance and ergonomics

    Matte textured plastic adorns the back of the Huawei P9 Lite, which looks very stylish. There is a side metal frame. Moreover, all the corners of the body are rounded, and the edges are beveled. The smartphone is thin and attractive, but the appearance is somewhat spoiled by the translucent insert on the back, which is glossy for some reason. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back, it is implemented in the shape of a square. The memory card slot is already customarily combined with a second SIM, and the volume buttons are made of plastic. The device does not tire your hand at all and is truly a pleasure to use. Moreover, thanks to its excellent ergonomics and compact size, the gadget will fit in any palm. Dimensions of P9 Lite: height - 146.8 mm, thickness - 7.5 mm, width - 72.6 mm, weight - 147 g. Colors - silver, gold, black and white.

    Display

    The smartphone has a 5.2-inch screen with optimal dimensions. The viewing angles of this IPS matrix are very good, and the Full HD resolution only adds to the believability. The picture is rich and moderately juicy. But the brightness is a little lacking, especially noticeable in the sun. This display is covered with 2.5D glass, which looks really impressive.

    Hardware and performance

    Since the P9 Light still seems to be a mid-level device, the processor here is appropriate. We are talking about the Kirin 650 chip, which is made using the latest 16-nm process technology. The processor with eight cores can be overclocked to a frequency of 2000 MHz, and the Mali-T830 MP2 video chip is designed to accelerate graphics. The standard set includes 2 GB of RAM, as well as 16 GB of internal storage. The memory is expandable up to 128 GB with MicroSD cards. The advantages of the EMUI 4.1 shell and the Android 6.0 operating system are actively used here.

    Thanks to modern hardware, there is no slowdown in the operation of the smartphone. At the same time, Huawei P9 Lite scores about 53,000 points in the AnTuTu test. In games, certain problems can only be observed in very demanding projects. If you lower the graphics level a little, then even the coolest toys will run perfectly smoothly.

    Communication and sound

    The Huawei P9 Light has amazingly high-quality speakers. The melodies became not only clearer, but also louder. The situation is similar with listening to music through headphones. And with the help of an equalizer you can easily enhance the bass or volume of the sound. The gadget supports standard networks, as well as LTE Cat 4.

    Camera

    The P9 Lite comes with a 13-megapixel camera. The user will be able to find many shooting modes, where there are even professional tools. A good level of detail in the photo is complemented by good color rendition. Very fast focusing instantly finds the subject in the frame. The device has a flash, but at night the pictures are somewhat noisy. Thanks to the capabilities of the 8-megapixel front camera, you can always experiment with self-portraits.

    Conclusions

    What does a user get for 20,000 rubles? A solid middle peasant with great ambitions. The P9 Lights comes with a charging unit, instructions and a micro-USB cable, as well as a proprietary headset. The smartphone successfully retained the wonderful design of the flagship, and also acquired, although not powerful, modern hardware that makes the device work quite quickly.

    It's 2017 and you still don't have a smartphone? There's nothing wrong with that. The basic features that your current phone provides are enough for you. The most important thing is the battery, which will definitely last at least a couple of days, and the camera is either a good addition to the smartphone, or it’s just there, but you don’t really use it.

    Perhaps, however, you have already noticed in the subway, buses and bars how people are stuck in their smartphones with large touch screens and have decided to finally try a phone of this format. Or maybe your child has already grown up and requires a new, more functional smartphone? Then here's the Huawei P9 lite, which I spent a few days with. In fact, they are perfect for beginners as the first device of this type, and after that “the appetite will come while eating” and it will become clear whether you need such a phone or whether a regular dialer will suffice. So let's take a closer look at it.

    One of the strengths of Huawei's budget model is the first thing you'll notice - the appearance. Despite the fact that it has a serial number from last year's flagship (P9), but P9 lite mini inherited the design from P10, this year's flagship. The front panel is almost entirely occupied by a 5-inch HD (1280x720 pixels) screen. The side frames are quite thin, but the top and bottom frames are not as thin as those on the sides. This is quite expected for this price range. It’s not bad that the screen has 2.5D glass, which protrudes slightly above the body of the device. Quite interesting and pleasant to the touch.

    The side frame is metal, as is most of the back of the phone. At the bottom and top there are two plastic strips that are needed to receive and transmit the signal, and between them there is a large metal part separated by two different colored lines. The main camera, combined with an LED flash, is also located on the rear panel, as expected, and there is also a fingerprint sensor, which works quickly, but its placement is quite controversial - many do not like it. The headphone jack is located on the top end, which is a rather strange decision. But the microUSB port remains on the bottom, surrounded by two speaker grilles. One of them is fake and is needed purely for symmetry, and the second hides a speaker worthy for this class.

    On the left side there is a hybrid slot for two SIM cards or a SIM card and a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 128 GB - your choice. On the right are buttons for sound control and an on/off button. They are tactilely pleasant and easy to distinguish by touch, although they do not have at least some pleasant click.

    The overall impression is good workmanship and a nice design. The phone is small enough to be used with one hand, and its rounded edges make it very comfortable to use. A good option for people looking for a smaller device and smaller users.

    So, the first impression is good, but let's see what backs it up. First, let's look at the most important element of interaction with a smartphone - its screen. As I already said, this is a 5-inch display with a resolution of HD or 1280x720 pixels and a pixel density of 294ppi. Perhaps by today's standards, when there are flagships with 4K resolution, this sounds too modest, but in fact it is enough, especially for a 5-inch screen. You will read the text without seeing individual pixels. Photos and games are also visually smooth and pleasing without pixelation. Of course, this is not the same as QHD, but it is quite enough for everyday comfortable work. The colors are good and so is the brightness. Usually I kept it at higher levels - for me personally this was the best option. Viewing angles are traditionally good for an IPS matrix.

    The second is the internal hardware that gives life to the entire system. The RAM is 2 GB in size and the internal memory is 16 GB, of which about 10 GB is available to the user for photos, applications and all other files. The processor is a quad-core Snapdragon 425 (1.4 GHz). This configuration is sufficient to ensure stable operation of the phone. Opening a large number of applications, you will see a decrease in animation speed and program speed, but it is within comfortable limits and very far from causing you to worry or feel serious discomfort. Social networks, applications, browser - everything you use every day will work here with sufficient speed. You may see a delay in some menus, but again - this does not detract from the overall experience. My advice, however, is to invest in a memory card instead of using a second SIM card. Because after several months of operation, the internal memory may be full.

    I also tried playing a few games, including the pre-installed Little Big City 2 and Asphalt 8: Airborn. In both games, the gameplay proceeded without delay, but the second began to slightly heat up the smartphone.

    Huawei P9 Lite Mini comes with Android 7.0 operating system wrapped in EMUI 5.1. Overall, the change that Huawei is making over original Android is one of the most significant on the market today. By default, all apps are located on home screens, which may be more convenient for some users. You can change this by activating the traditional app list. The thing is, EMUI gives you great options for personalization - from the aforementioned home screen style, continuing with the look of the navigation buttons and ending with icons, themes and icons. Other software tweaks you might want to use include a blue light filter, display settings (color saturation and temperature), and additional fingerprint sensor capabilities. In addition to unlocking, you can use it to answer incoming calls, stop alarms (try it :-)), launch the notification panel and scroll through the photos in the gallery by moving your finger across it. The gallery is convenient and can group your photos independently into albums. It's possible to split the screen into two if you're using two apps, but there's not enough space for a truly comfortable experience. Pre-installed applications, of course, still remain and, as usual, there are too many of them, it is unlikely that you will use at least half of them. There are copies of analogue programs from Google.

    EMUI itself was designed to be quite user-friendly, but it is still too much of a modification to Android. However, greater personalization capabilities can make it interesting to a large audience.

    Either way, the overall combination of hardware and software ensures good battery performance. It has a capacity of 3020 mAh and is usually enough for two full working days. If you're a more budget-conscious user, you might even get better results.

    The last thing on the list that you definitely need to pay attention to is the “cameras”. The Huawei P9 lite mini has decent numbers on paper, but what's most interesting is how the cameras perform in practice in reality. The main camera is 13 MP with autofocus, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and can shoot Full HD video at 30 frames per second. The front camera has a more modest resolution of 5 MP.

    The main sensor shoots within normal limits for a device for this class. When you have enough light and the right conditions, you will get good pictures. When there is less light, photos will begin to lose detail and noise will appear. The camera does not reproduce colors very richly, which, however, may be positive for some users. I'd like to understand more about how the camera handles sensing the amount of light. In some situations, the sensor overexposed photos. You can also use the HDR mode, which is available in a separate menu. Overall, his intervention may improve the situation a little. In general, the camera of the Huawei P9 Lite Mini is typical for smartphones in this class - you shouldn’t expect miracles, but it is able to quickly capture a funny moment or something as a keepsake.

    Always has new products worthy of consumer attention. Moreover, these can be both flagships and mid-size state employees; one of the company’s latest inventions is Huawei P9 lite mini. Its main indicators are impressive in their simplicity and accessibility.

    Design

    Partly repeating its predecessor - P9 lite, Huawei P9 light mini At the same time, it has its own characteristics:

    • classic monoblock case made of durable plastic with metal inserts;
    • light weight corresponds to thin, graceful contours;
    • display diagonal does not exceed 5 inches;
    • color preferences – gold, silver and black;
    • there is a fingerprint scanner (on the back);
    • there are two video cameras;
    • for sound - two holes at the bottom at the end (microphone and speaker).

    Technical hardware

    Considering the relatively small size of the new device. The developers still tried to fit decent content into it. Using the modern version of Android 7.0 as the OS platform, it was possible to install a 4-core MT6737 processor (or Snapdragon 425 according to other information).

    To support the speed performance and prestige of the sought-after smartphone, it was decided to integrate 2GB of RAM, and allocate 16GB of storage for the main memory. When programs and applications are fully loaded, about 10 gigs remain free for the owner, which is enough for photography and for launching a decent game.

    A comparison of the capabilities of video modules with other similar smartphones from the world's leading manufacturers - Samsung, Xiaomi, etc. shows that budget models can also have good data. The main camera on the P9 lite mini on the rear panel has 13 megapixels, enhanced by a good flash. For selfie services, there is a front video camera with a capacity of up to 5 MP. If used correctly, their strength is enough for decent videos, not to mention photographs.

    But don’t forget that any smartphone is, first and foremost, a mobile phone. Therefore, the presence of two SIM cards, installed wireless technologies and an Internet connection can fill any communication niche.

    A good battery will not be superfluous if it is also provided with an energy volume of 3020 mAh. Two days of calls are guaranteed, after the next recharge you can use the device as usual.

    Results

    Good display size, similar content, for example, Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime, Meizu m5, etc. allow consumers to purchase not only a smartphone, but also a friend. Helping in various situations, especially on a long journey, a device like the Huawei P9 lite mini will brighten up the gray minutes of waiting.

    2017 - a phone with a reasonably balanced price and specifications.

    Huawei P9 Lite Mini: external design

    Interestingly, in other markets, such as Germany, the Huawei P9 Lite Mini is sold as the Huawei Y6 Pro 2017, that is, a phone belonging to the cheaper Y series. These market differences can be considered the effect of the already well-known trend in Huawei brand policy to rename smartphones for different markets (for example, as is done in the case of Mate SE and Honor 7X).

    So, the classic Huawei P9 Lite 2017 is a smartphone with a 5.2-inch screen and dimensions: 147.2 x 72.9 x 7.6 mm, that is, according to current standards, a fairly compact design. And in the Huawei P9 Lite Mini model, the manufacturer decided to use a 5-inch LCD panel. This measure made it possible to reduce the height of the body of the new smartphone by 4 millimeters and its width by 2 millimeters (143.7 x 71.6 x 8.2 mm). Build quality is decent. Huawei P9 Lite Mini, as a budget phone, looks very decent. The metal body (P9 lite 2017 has a glass back) and the plastic but aesthetically crafted side frame provide a secure grip. The only pity is that the surface of the shell collects fingerprints.

    The screen is adequate for the price, that is, average. The 5-inch IPS LCD panel installed in the P9 lite mini has only HD resolution (1280x720 pixels). This is easy to notice by observing, for example, the quality of the small fonts displayed on it. Viewing angles are good, although as they increase, brightness quickly decreases. The maximum white brightness reaches 442 cd/m2 (on a bright day there may be problems with good readability), the contrast of the image in question is 894:1. The screen of the Huawei P9 Lite Mini cannot boast of good factory calibration of the displayed colors: reds are slightly faded, the blue of the sea is excessively black and green colors in the range of 75% are almost indistinguishable.

    Huawei P9 Lite Mini - performance and functionality

    Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 (4 x Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.4 GHz + Adreno 308), 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage (for the user, after any system updates and pre-installed applications, only 6.38 of them remain GB) are parameters worthy of a cheap smartphone, but inform us that the P9 lite mini will not be an ideal choice for the gamer (weak processor and graphics chip), as well as those who use several applications simultaneously (small amount of RAM). While playing Real Racing 3 and Eternity Warriors 4, occasional stuttering is clearly visible, and the graphics quality proves that the video accelerator used in the Snapdragon 425 chipset is not very up to par.

    The phone supports two SIM cards simultaneously (Dual SIM Standby), but traditionally for Huawei products, the SIM slot is hybrid, i.e. it allows you to use a SIM card or a microSDXC memory card. With such a small amount of data storage left for the user (6.38 GB), the use of a memory card seems mandatory. Therefore, the smartphone will not be a good choice for people who need Dual SIM.

    Huawei P9 Lite Mini is equipped with a high-quality fingerprint scanner, but the manufacturer forgot about the NFC module. The device operates on Android 7.0 OS, enriched with proprietary EMUI 5.1 firmware. The interface itself in the P9 lite mini works satisfactorily smoothly.

    Battery

    The battery capacity is 3020 mAh. During typical use, the device needs to be charged every 1.5-2 days. Battery performance tests indicate that the P9 lite mini's battery is capable of 7 hours and 15 minutes of continuous Internet browsing, 15 minutes of playing Real Racing 3 consumes 6 percent of energy, 1 hour of listening to music from Spotify using a Bluetooth headset spends 5 percent, and the all-night vigil takes 1 percent.

    The smartphone comes with a charger that fills the device's battery to 100% within 2 hours and 40 minutes (without fast or wireless charging).

    Photo/video

    Huawei P9 Lite Mini provides the user with 2 separate cameras. The main one has a format matrix with a resolution of 13 megapixels, an autofocus system and one LED flash. The 5-megapixel selfie camera lacks an autofocus system and an LED flash. Both cameras record video in Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. In very good lighting conditions, the footage captured can be considered good. In low lighting conditions, the amount of detail recorded drops even further, and electronic noise begins to further mar the image. The smartphone also records panoramas... in very high resolution (about 3000 vertical pixels).

    The quality of recorded videos does not raise any particular objections (in the category of budget smartphones). The digital zoom works smoothly and can be safely used while filming, within reason of course.

    Audio

    The headset does not come with the phone. The sound quality produced by the smartphone is good. The sound is clear in the low frequency range. The smartphone transmits high-quality sound for Bluetooth headphones and supports music transmission at a distance of up to 10 meters. P9 lite mini users will not be disappointed when listening to the radio - the gadget is equipped with an analogue FM radio receiver (without RDS support).

    Resume

    After reading this review, it seems that the Huawei P9 Lite Mini has many shortcomings - poor performance, average screen, not very good camera and lack of NFC. This is partly true, but we are talking about a budget device. Therefore, it is necessary to talk about its significant advantages: an attractive price, a powerful battery, as well as functional firmware for the operating system. After taking into account all the pros and cons, we must honestly say that in its price category the device is not such a bad choice, but... exclusively for less sophisticated users.
