    Huawei follows fashion trends in smartphone design. It assumes the thinnest possible device with the most smoothed edges. Those interested can see in the Huawei P10 elements of the iPhone 6 or 7, as well as the Galaxy S8... However, excuse me, Huawei released its P10 two months before Samsung. In the end, we will still settle on the fact that this is a fashion trend.

    Such design approaches are partly due to the increase in diagonal dimensions. A thin device fits better into a pocket and is easier to find a place in a purse. In addition, technological progress makes it possible to make compact and reliable devices.

    Huawei has not yet used a frameless display in the P10, but the front panel is so well covered with protective glass, and the IPS-NEO display is so black that it seems as if the entire front side of the phone is a screen. If you look closely, you can discern some functional elements.

    The back cover of the smartphone is made matte. The color and texture of the metal case are very good, but the manufacturer did not use an oleophobic coating, so fingerprints remain on the back of the smartphone.

    The dual Leica camera on the back side is visually separated by a separate block with protective glass and labeled as it is in real cameras.

    The sides and ends of the device are rounded as much as possible. They are enlivened by shiny edging.

    The on/off button is interestingly designed. It has a light edging, a corrugated surface and red sides. In general, you won’t be confused; you’ll see it in the dark and feel it in your pocket.

    Connectors and controls

    Everything is standard with the connectors on the Huawei P10, but the controls are not without invention. Let's start with the last one.

    The area under the display, reminiscent of the good old Samsung Galaxy hardware button, is not a button at all, but a fingerprint sensor. It can be used for its intended purpose to confirm payments or unlock the phone. However, it also represents a navigation button, albeit a touch one. It can replace the virtual Home and Back buttons that appear at the bottom of the display. Thus, the “usable area” of the screen increases.

    The navigation button is enabled in the settings and is controlled by gestures. The location of touch on the touch pad, the direction of finger movement, etc. are important. These gestures can be mastered after some practice. But we decided to choose a simpler option with buttons on the display.

    Fingerprint settings are standard. First, a PIN code or another alternative authorization method is selected, then the functions of the touch pad are configured.

    Fingerprint scanning is almost the same as in other smartphones. Huawei tells you which part of your finger you need to touch the sensor. Due to the physical size of the sensor, scanning requires a slightly larger number of touches than, for example, where the pad is made round and its area is slightly larger. Our video will tell you more about the Huawei P10 fingerprint scanner:

    Also on the front panel you can find a speaker and a front camera.

    On the back of the smartphone there is a dual camera with dual flash. It is covered with a separate protective glass covering the entire width of the device. Autofocus sensors can be seen under the glass, but most of it serves a decorative function.

    On the left side you can see the cover of the compartment for SIM cards and memory cards. It opens with a special key.

    The slot is combined, so you will have to choose between a dual-SIM configuration and the presence of a memory card. The main SIM is in nano format. I would also like to note that in Huawei P10 both SIM cards support 3G, but only one supports 4G. If suddenly something doesn’t work out for you with SIM cards, then our short video will help you solve the problem:

    On the right side there are volume rockers, as well as a button to turn the display on/off.

    At the top end you can only notice the microphone hole for noise reduction.

    On the bottom we find a USB Type-C connector, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a speakerphone. The placement of the audio and power connectors at the same end, in our opinion, is not the best solution from an ergonomic point of view.

    Case for Huawei P10

    Buying a case for Huawei P10 is not a problem. The offer is already quite large. There are plastic bumpers, leather ones, books, etc.

    A plastic cover for Huawei P10 costs up to 500 rubles, depending on the manufacturer and the greed of the seller. It’s gratifying that you can find not only transparent overlays, but also overlays that match the main colors of the smartphone.

    There are similar leather bumpers for Huawei P10. They can cost up to 1000 rubles. When choosing a case, you should pay attention to the fact that the cutout on the back side reveals not only the two camera lenses, but also the sensors located to the right.

    A standard cover for Huawei P10 will cost about 2,000 rubles. More expensive options are also possible.

    Huawei P10 screen

    The Huawei P10 display is on par with its peers in its class. Huawei does not claim technological leadership in this smartphone, but provides a decent offer. The screen diagonal is 5.1 inches. Its resolution is Full HD. The pixel density is 432 ppi.

    The technology chosen is IPS-NEO, an improved version of IPS. However, from a consumer point of view, this additive has purely marketing significance. High-quality IPS today can be found in devices, regardless of their price category.

    The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

    Overall the screen makes an excellent impression. It's quite bright. The colors are rich and juicy. The screen experience is further enhanced by the included wallpapers and lock screensavers that come with the system, which are clearly adjusted accordingly to highlight the display's strengths.

    There is no special display enhancer found in the Huawei P10 settings. However, as in other recent smartphones from the company, here you can adjust the brightness and color temperature. The mode of reduced eye fatigue is supported when the blue-blue part of the spectrum is muted. There is a separate color temperature setting for this mode.

    The white brightness of the Huawei P10 is 572.72 cd/m2, which is quite a lot, but not at all a record figure. At the same time, it will be enough for a sunny day. Black brightness is 0.39 cd/m2, which is also not bad. The contrast was 1469:1. Good results.

    Picky users will have to adjust the color temperature of the display. Our objective testing data shows that it is a little overestimated and is about 7000-7500K. For our taste, this is a good indicator, but if the eye is very sensitive to gamma, then the colors may seem a little cold.

    The color gamut of the Huawei P10 is impressive. It is significantly higher than sRGB. It is higher than most IPS matrices and even better than OLED.

    Huawei P10 gamma curves deviate from the standard. Given the previous measurement results, one could have expected a better graph. In this case, the shades will be a little lighter, but again only a very sensitive eye will notice this.

    The screen supports 10 touches as expected.

    Overall, the display is good, on par with all recent premium Huawei smartphones and no worse than many competitors. Only a few can oppose anything other than greater resolution.

    Huawei P10 camera

    Huawei P10 received two... or rather three cameras. The main camera of the smartphone has two sensors with a resolution of 20 and 12 megapixels. It is equipped with Leica optics with different focal lengths, which allows for optical rather than digital zoom.

    In the dual camera Huawei P10, as in the Mate 9 and other smartphones from the company, the 20-megapixel sensor is black and white. The smaller matrix is color. A 20-megapixel sensor is used to sharpen images and expand their dynamic range. In addition, the dual camera allows you to control the depth of field and get a bokeh effect in portrait photographs - a blurred background.

    In addition, the main camera can record 4K video at 30 fps and Full HD at 60 fps.

    The front camera is much simpler. Its resolution is 8 megapixels, but it also provides Full HD video recording.

    The camera interface in the Huawei P10 has not changed compared to the Mate 9.

    The interface is simple and intuitive. On one side there is a shutter button and switch to video mode, as well as a photo preview window. On the other hand, a set of quick options.

    On the opposite side there are quick options for flash control, skin color enhancement, color rendering adjustments, quick filters, as well as an extended aperture mode, which uses the dual camera and allows you to control the depth of field.

    If you pull the shutter button, the PRO mode will open, where you can adjust all shooting parameters.

    The settings are called up according to the “fairytale” principle. If you swipe to the right, you’ll get to the shooting modes; if you swipe to the left, you’ll set up the camera. The shooting modes are the same for photos and videos. Settings include GPS, grid, sound, timer, face detection, smiles, tap to shoot, etc.

    In the case of video, the camera interface is basically the same. The quick options are the same. You can play with sharpness and filters.

    The modes have already been mentioned, but the video has fewer settings. In addition to resolution and geotagging, there is sound, volume button settings, autofocus mode and stabilization.

    The front camera interface is organized similarly. There is no manual mode, so you can change the white balance and ISO in the settings. There is also slightly less available for the camera

    There are also fewer quick options. There are no color rendering settings, no depth of field, because the front camera is single, not dual. Instead of a flash, the screen is backlit. There is a “cosmetic” regulator for the face and quick application of filters.

    The front video camera is still more modest. There is no backlight, but you can control the quality of the skin and apply quick filters. Settings include resolution, geotags, stabilization, sound.

    The main camera of Huawei P10 allows you to take pictures with a resolution of up to 20 megapixels. It should be borne in mind that if you use a dual camera, that is, turn on the depth of field adjustment mode, the image resolution will be 12 megapixels.

    The main camera copes with any shooting conditions. The pictures are clear and bright even in cloudy weather. Adjusting the depth of field allows you to get interesting effects.

    The front camera offers a choice of four resolutions. Maximum - 8 megapixels.

    The front camera is not always up to par. In principle, it is enough for a selfie, but you need to make sure that the lens is clean.

    The main camera of the Huawei P10 can record video with a resolution of up to 4K, but less “heavy” resolutions are also available.

    4K video quality is good. The smartphone quickly changes focus.

    The choice of video resolutions for the front camera is more modest, but it can also shoot Full HD.

    The video from the front camera turned out better than the photo.

    Huawei P10 is a continuation of Huawei P9. The characteristics of the device have improved over the year, but overall the progress is not so impressive, reflecting the general trend in the market. And the P10 Plus model has also been released, which has a larger screen.

    The Huawei P10 is not so fundamentally different from last year’s flagship. Huawei introduced a dual camera a year ago, as well as a USB Type-C connector. Therefore, the new model surpasses the previous generation mainly in megahertz, megapixels and gigabytes, as well as some software features.

    The Huawei P10 uses a HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor; it includes two clusters of four Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A73 cores. The Cortex-A73, compared to the A72, is adapted to a thinner technical process, and also contains an increased cache and improved implementation of the ARMv8-A instruction set, thanks to which its performance should be 30% higher than its predecessor. The main advantage is support for ultra-high definition video.

    Mali-G71 graphics are a good addition to the new architecture. Compared to Mali-T, the new accelerator has been noticeably redesigned and its performance has been increased not only “extensively” due to a larger number of cores or frequencies, but also “intensively” due to new technologies. Kirin 960 is definitely better than the one installed in its predecessor.

    Also in the new Huawei P we see only 4 GB of RAM, regardless of version. However, here one could expect 6 GB from Huawei, considering that Xiaomi already offers so much and even Samsung has increased the memory capacity in the Chinese version of the Galaxy S8.

    Support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and telecommunications networks is at a normal level for modern flagships.

    The camera performance has improved over the year. The dual camera has a 20-megapixel sensor. It's now possible to record 4K video. The screen has become a little smaller, thanks to which its clarity has formally increased. However, in this case the user is unlikely to notice the difference.

    The company has also increased the battery capacity, which, combined with a potentially more energy-efficient processor, should give the smartphone an advantage in battery life.

    Performance testing

    In terms of line continuity, Huawei P10 should be ahead of its predecessor Huawei P9 in all tests. Let's see how serious the advantage will be.

    In the Basemark test, the new product turns out to be more than 30% faster than its predecessor. This result can be credited to Huawei P10.

    Performance in the SunSpider browser test is also more than 30% higher. Huawei P10 scores again.

    In the graphics test, Huawei P10 already beat its predecessor by almost 50%. A plus.

    And here the result of Huawei P10 is two times or more better. Mali-G71 combined with Crotex-A73 is still a force.

    Huawei P10 in Antutu

    Performance in AnTuTu test is better than Huawei P10. However, the advantage is not as large as in other benchmarks. This is a test, but with a minus.

    The autonomy of the Huawei P10 is still no better than that of the Huawei P9. More powerful processors turned out to be not as economical as the developers of the ARM architecture tell us. The P10 has lower frequencies and a larger battery, but after our set of actions the phone retained 75% of its charge, while the P9 retained 79%. This is where the new product fails. However, in absolute numbers, the results of both Huawei flagships are very good. They will definitely last a whole day, and if you use the smartphone with average intensity, then even one and a half to two.

    The energy consumption graph is quite capable of compensating for the loss in the previous test. The phone consumes a lot only in 3D loaded games, when the high-performance chip cluster and graphics accelerator are used, and even at maximum frequencies. If you don't chase monsters, the device will work for a long time.

    In addition, the Huawei P10 still has its proprietary phone manager, which has advanced battery saving settings. These include not only brightness control, or settings to turn off wireless modules when the display is turned off, but also a reduction in screen resolution, which is not as noticeable to the eye as it might seem.

    Games on Huawei P10

    Huawei P10, judging by the tests, should not let us down in games, with such a graphics accelerator and a new processor.

    • Riptide GP2: excellent, everything flies;

    • Asphalt 7: excellent, everything flies;

    • Asphalt 8: excellent, everything flies;

    • Modern Combat 5: excellent, everything flies;
    • N.O.V.A. 3: excellent, everything flies;

    • Dead Trigger: excellent, everything flies;

    • Dead Trigger 2: excellent, everything flies;

    • Real Racing 3: excellent, everything flies;

    • Need For Speed: No Limits: excellent, everything flies;

    • Shadowgun: Dead Zone: excellent, everything flies;
    • Frontline Commando: Normandy: great, everything flies;

    • Frontline Commando 2: excellent, everything flies;
    • Eternity Warriors 2: excellent, everything flies;

    • Eternity Warriors 4: excellent, everything flies;

    • Trial Xtreme 3: excellent, everything flies;

    • Trial Xtreme 4: excellent, everything flies;

    • Dead Effect: excellent, everything flies;

    • Dead Effect 2: excellent, everything flies;

    • Plants vs Zombies 2: excellent, everything flies;

    • Dead Target: great, everything flies.

    In games, Huawei P10 naturally demonstrates excellent results. The only downside is the high power consumption in 3D tasks, which will drain the battery faster, but we think the picture quality is adequate compensation for that.

    BY

    Huawei P10 runs Android 7.0 with proprietary EMUI 5.1 interface. In this sense, it is no different from Huawei Mate 9 or . Therefore, let’s briefly go through the main features.

    The company still tried to differentiate the flagship model from others with a similar interface. Therefore, the default theme is set to lilac and eggplant tones. Looks premium. These colors are loved in the glamorous world. For lovers of something light and light, nothing will stop you from changing the topic.

    Let's remember that in EMUI 5.1 Huawei gave the user the right to choose how the home screen should look: with a menu button or with applications scattered across the home screens. This is done in the settings. As a result, all applications in the menu appear unorganized, although in the classic EMUI view they are arranged in folders.

    Huawei doesn't install many third-party apps on its flagship smartphones. However, Huawei P10 received the Opera browser and the Yandex application.

    The Yandex application is a standard combine of the Russian company with search, news, weather and other functions. It can often be found on many smartphones offered to Russian consumers.

    The Opera browser will be a pleasant alternative to Chrome for some. At least our site displays correctly. Depending on the region, Opera will offer quick links to some sites.

    The Huawei icon on the Opera desktop turned out to be a link to the manufacturer’s online store, just like on other company smartphones.

    Another standard third-party application on Huawei smartphones is Booking, with which you can book a hotel almost anywhere in the world.

    The branded Health application has not disappeared anywhere either. The fitness tracker allows you to count steps, kilometers and calories. Set goals and achieve them if possible. As always, we note the conversion of incomprehensible calories into understandable portions of ice cream or glasses of beer.

    The settings of the Huawei P10 are also all in place, here there is fast data transfer and cloning of the smartphone and a one-finger control button, and a clone application that allows you to use instant messengers and social networks under two accounts at the same time. By the way, I would like to note the compact size of the smartphone; hand control options will be in less demand.

    Conclusion

    Huawei P10 turned out great. A good premium smartphone. If we evaluate the device impartially, then there are no complaints about it: good design, high-quality camera, fast processor, excellent display.

    Of course, there is no comrade’s taste and color, so the design will seem too feminine to some, and the default theme chosen will be gloomy.

    Among the nuances, one can note high performance in games, but also equally high gluttony, which affects battery life. If you do not turn the device into a gamepad, it is guaranteed to last more than a day.

    Huawei P10 price

    You can buy Huawei P10 for 36 thousand rubles - this is not a budget Chinese product. Alas, quality and good characteristics do not mean a low price. Let's look at the competitors.

    The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a larger display, higher resolution, and a slightly more powerful processor. The cameras of the devices are comparable. However, a top-end Samsung costs more than 50 thousand rubles.

    Last year's Galaxy S7 also featured a better AMOLED display with 2K resolution. However, there is no dual camera here. In general, depending on the memory capacity, you can buy it for about 30 thousand.

    HTC 10 costs about 35 thousand rubles. It also has a 2K display, but only a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a quad-core processor. And the battery has a smaller capacity. Plus, this is last year's model with Android 6.0 out of the box.

    Pros:

    • fast platform;
    • good camera;
    • good display;
    • convenient shell with Android 7;
    • attractive design;
    • excellent assembly;
    • there is a fingerprint scanner.

    Cons:

    • high power consumption in games;
    • non-demountable body.

    The interfaces of modern smartphones are simple and clear. They are easy to work with and can usually be mastered in a couple of minutes. True, not everyone manages to do this quickly. We have collected the basic techniques for working with Huawei P10, especially since in the new EMUI and Android 7.0 menu items and virtual buttons are not always where we are used to.

    How to set a ringtone for a contact in Huawei P10

    A unique melody or song for some numbers will allow you to quickly find out who is calling and whether it is worth answering the call at all.
