• How to set the time on a satellite dish tuner. Satellite dish: installing and configuring the antenna yourself

    Every owner of an apartment or country house sooner or later faces the problem of connecting to television. If you want to watch a large number of movie, sports, scientific and educational channels and high-definition programs, the choice falls in favor of installing a satellite dish. The dish can be connected anywhere in Moscow and the Moscow region if there is a signal from the satellite. All Russian-language operators can be divided into two main categories - southern (NTV PLUS and TRICOLOR TV) and eastern (CONTINENT, TELEKARTA, MTS). The former will require a clear orientation of the antenna in a southerly direction, the latter - to the east. If there is no signal from the Customer's windows, the satellite antenna is installed and configured on the roof of the building. The cost of equipment and work in this case increases, as the costs of cable and its installation are added.

    In addition to servicing the private sector, our company carries out a full range of work on connecting offices, shopping centers, hotels and any other commercial buildings and institutions in the Moscow region and in Moscow to television systems.

    The problem of choosing an operator should be taken care of even at the stage of construction or renovation of the premises, during the laying of wires. In this case, connection work is divided into two stages:

    1. Installation and configuration of a satellite dish on the roof or from a building window
    2. Installation of a receiver or access module, commissioning of the system

    By connecting the dish in advance, you will know from which side of the windows or house the signal is coming and from where the cables should be pulled point by point. Quite often situations arise when builders run a cable to a place where there is no reception and they have to lay the cable again, which does not always look aesthetically pleasing when the repair is completed. If you are not ready to install a satellite dish in advance, then there is a service for a technician to visit the site and measure the level of the incoming signal to determine the installation location.

    Instructions in 5 tips: setting up a satellite dish yourself

    First of all, before starting the process, you should choose the right location for installing the satellite dish With the way digital broadcasting is spreading today (and it is moving by leaps and bounds), there is no need to say that satellite television has become obsolete. Receiving images from a satellite is interesting because you have the opportunity to include a huge number of channels. And many satellite channels are freely available. And there are also regions where continuous digital broadcasting coverage is physically impossible. Therefore, installing an antenna is the only possible solution. Don’t be afraid of words like “install a parabolic antenna” or “satellite”, “polarization”, “head position”. Perhaps these readings will not be useful in your not the most complex task. And, if necessary, it will not be difficult to see the position of the head and determine the rotating part.

    Preparing to set up the antenna

    Let's say the antenna has already been suspended. That is, the installation of the antenna in the optimal location, which still needs to be found, is completed. Then you should thoroughly prepare for the setup yourself. Otherwise, it happens that the antenna is already on the street, the location has been chosen and it’s time to configure it, but some annoying little thing is missing.

    Installing it yourself can sometimes save you a considerable amount of money.

    The adjuster must prepare:

    • Keys and screwdrivers of different sizes, those that required both the installation of the suspension and the fastening of the mirror itself;
    • TV, tuner, connecting cable;
    • Extension cord with a pair of sockets;
    • Protractor;
    • Compass.

    Sometimes fine tuning cannot be done without an assistant. For example, if the connection cannot be made with control. That is, there is no way to place the tuner with the TV in such a way that you can correctly monitor the indicator readings and set the channels. Then the antenna adjustment is carried out by two people.

    Rough tuning of satellite TV

    Let's say you decide to do the rough tuning yourself. Then you need to install the antenna in its proper place, and then secure it not very tightly. Why isn't it tight? This is done so that it remains possible to change the position of the mirror. And when there is data on the required tilt angles, you can begin to orient the antenna.

    The antenna must be installed in the line of sight of the desired direction

    How to Orient the Antenna:

    • With a compass you need to catch a landmark on the horizon, which is located at the desired azimuth. This means that you need to select and set the azimuth on the compass, and use the sight to look for the direction. The object that falls into the visor slot is the landmark.
    • First, the angle of vertical inclination is taken roughly. But if you look for it, you can clarify it by looking at the cut of the antenna mirror through a protractor. In this case, the equipment will have a slightly greater slope than required.

    Fine tuning of the satellite dish

    Next comes turning on the TV and receiver. You should be interested in the signal quality indicator bar on the screen. Quality and signal are the key words. Move the antenna to the left a few degrees. Then slowly, looking at the indicator readings, turn the antenna to the left. If there is no increase in readings, lower the antenna mirror a little and repeat the procedure in the opposite direction.

    To receive a radio signal from a satellite, it must fall on the receiving mirror and nothing should interfere with it

    So, you can say, at home, you make snake movements - and you will find that one point in space at which the signal quality level will be above 75%. This test will ensure reliable signal reception.

    Remember that you need to turn the antenna from behind or to the side, because the human body is a big obstacle to finding a signal. The movement of the antenna mirror should be very slow. The receiver must have time to recognize the signal. When you have already achieved a high-quality signal, you can further improve it if you rotate the convector a little.

    Completing the process: how to set up a satellite dish yourself

    When you have found the direction to the satellite, an automatic channel search is performed. Typically, the way you search for a channel on a TV is exactly the same principle used to search for dish channels. And after completing the settings, you need to tighten all the adjusting and fastening screws tightly. Still, the antenna has a huge windage, and the wind can throw off the adjustment if the screws are loosely tightened.

    Many people think that setting up a satellite dish is a complicated process, but in fact it is not.

    And then you need to securely fasten the cable. It is easier and more correct to fix it on the convector stand and suspension using plastic disposable clamps. If you yourself are not sure that you can do all this, you need to assemble a small team of already experienced adjusters. Sometimes two pairs of hands are not enough, only three.

    Diagram: how to connect a satellite dish to a TV

    The instructions will only be great if everything is done from scratch. If the matter is only to “reconfigure”, as well as remove unnecessary channels and find missing ones, the process will go faster. Such instructions are universal - suitable for those who install an antenna in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Karaganda, for example, Kharkov (Ukraine is also here). Even Yamal can be included in this scheme.

    The satellite dish must be installed higher, in most cases on the roof

    Antenna connection instructions:

    • Select the desired location for installing the antenna (if you live in the northern hemisphere, then the satellites are located in the southern);
    • Check whether the place is convenient and whether it is difficult to service;
    • Connect the antenna according to the included instructions;
    • Place it in the chosen location so that it is ready for adjustment;
    • Prepare the cable;
    • Connect the converter and receiver with a cable, connect the receiver to the TV;
    • Connect electricity to the antenna location;
    • Connect the receiver and TV to power;
    • Install the antenna in the same direction, at the same angle as your neighbors;
    • Enter the menu and follow the directions;
    • Change the vertical angle;
    • Give the antenna the desired tilt;
    • Rotate the antenna in a horizontal plane to achieve the highest possible signal level;
    • Tighten all fastening bolts;
    • OK – in the settings menu;
    • Look at the channel names, making sure you have the correct satellite.

    The antenna can always be reconfigured. Why do you need Chinese channels if you are not interested? Why do you need channels about Sirius and Venus if you are focused on sports, for example? In short, install what you really need without loading the list with unnecessary things.

    How to set up a satellite dish yourself (video)

    There is a lot you can do yourself, including installing an antenna. If a satellite dish is the only option for enjoying watching a large number of channels, then you can manage the connection on your own.

    Cable TV is limited to only a certain list of channels. Therefore, satellites are increasingly being used for leisure activities. We propose to consider how to set up a satellite dish yourself, what TV equipment is needed for this, as well as step-by-step installation of channels for dummies.

    Antenna operating principle

    A satellite dish is a dish-shaped type of parabolic antenna (multifield, Opticum AX 1000+, Maximum, Opticum X80 Premium, Orton X80, BIG BISAT), designed to receive microwaves from communication sources that transmit signals to television, radio, and sometimes Internet satellites (Intelsat 15, Intel, Eutelsat 36A/36B (36°E), TT-budget S-1401 SkyStar 3, Sky tv digital).

    Photo – Satellite dish

    The parabolic shape of the offset dish reflects the signal to the antenna at the focal point. A device called a horn feed (Satfinder) is attached to the dish coordinator; its adjustment is fully automatic. This part is essentially an amplifier, the front converter heads (LNB) collect the signals from the focal point and “drive” them to the down-converter block. The horn converts electromagnetic or radio wave signals into electrical waves and tunes their spectrum.

    Now another amplification technology is actively used - winding a metal mesh or additional turns of wire on a plate (see photo). This setting helps increase the antenna's absorption capacity and sensitivity even to weak signals.

    Photo - Amplifier on the antenna

    Modern dishes intended for use in home television typically range in size from 43 cm to 80 cm in diameter, and are configured in one position to receive Ku-band from one orbital position. Before the existence of live broadcast satellite services, home users typically used a motorized C-band dish up to 3 meters in diameter to receive channels from different satellites. Overly small plates can cause network problems, but they have a longer shelf life, are easier to set up, and are durable.

    How to set up a TV antenna

    You can use a special device to adjust a direct focus satellite antenna (Amos-Amos, ASTRA, Rainbow, Sirius-Sirius, SkyStar USB 2 HD CI TechniSat, Supermax, Golden Interstar, Eurosky, General Lumax DV-728 FTA, STV), for example, This is a satellite dish tuner, they are very easy to install with your own hands. Let's look at the simplest and safest installation method, step-by-step instructions:

    1. Prepare the antenna mount. For this purpose, you can use double suspension, construction mounting brackets (for areas with strong winds);

    The double suspension of the motorcycle suspension is equipped with two telescopic rods that can be moved. They are optimized for receiving VHF signals. At the time, they are not the best solution for good reception on TVs or on a computer, because... are known for their ability to interrupt the signal.

    Photo – Satellite dish on the roof

    Sometimes it is possible to mount the antenna on a rotating beam. In this case, reconfiguration will be carried out quickly and easily - it will be possible to connect from one satellite to another.

    Note: if you live far from a city or village center, then you need to purchase the largest possible antenna, with a diameter of 80 centimeters or more, otherwise the signals will be interrupted.

    1. Use a rotor for polarization. If the type of signal reception in your area is such that one channel is broadcast from the north and the other is broadcast to the west, then you may need an antenna rotor to make a double connection, thereby expanding the range. If there is no rotor, then you can take a compass;
    2. It is also recommended to use a receiver (HD Continent-CHD-04, changhong dvb-s9000n, C-band, DRE, DRS, Globo 7010C-1CI, SVEC) to amplify signals;

    If the angles are slightly different, or the platform is located quite close, then you can do without a rotor. If the angle of the satellites ABC (ABS, АВС) is more than 30 degrees, then you need to use a catcher. In addition, using such a device, you can switch between satellites without leaving your home.

    Photo – Offset antenna
    1. Determine where the antenna is connected and configured to your TV, laptop, computer or other receivers. For a laptop, phone and TV, this will most likely be a USB compartment, while for TVs it will be the so-called “tulip”. This will probably be what is called the F (DVB) connector. There are older styles of connectors such as the Belling Lee or flat cut connector.

    Please note A: If you have an old type of connector, you need to visit a radio market or local TV store to get the correct adapter. Digital TVs have a dedicated input for digital reception (EUSTON 0.75 m), usually labeled "DTV" or "DTT". They will not be able to connect directly to legacy connectors.

    1. Connect the antenna to your TV using RF coaxial cables (also known as the "F" wire). There are two installation options: screw it in using a threaded connection and plug it in like a regular adapter. It is worth noting that the threaded method is more reliable and practical.
    2. Set up your TV, you can do it yourself. You will need to use the remote control, the TV setup menu (how to access it in certain models is described in the products of any company). The entry point is most likely labeled "Antenna", "Air" or "Air" on most Chinese TV devices.

    Some TVs have multiple inputs: make sure you select the correct input during this procedure. If you have a cable and multiple inputs, you can set one input for the projector (optional) and the other as an antenna input.

    Photo – Tricolor Antenna
    1. Adjust the antenna. For signal purity and transmission quality, you need not only to adjust the polarity, but also to select the correct coordinates. You will need to scan through the channels from your TV tuner to see which channels are within range. If you see a unclear image, reinstall the antenna before the signal clears. Some antennas are motorized, saving you the hassle of climbing onto the roof to set up. Remember, some channels require special codes; we recommend that you obtain them from your service provider, or by directly contacting the press center of a particular channel (you can do this by mail or online chat).

    Depending on which continent is needed, you can set the “manual” setting, the antenna will automatically find the signal based on the specified parameters, and depending on the range and power, you can change the filters. But before you start watching movies in this case, be sure to save the channels, check their operation and secure the antenna.

    1. Find local online streaming venues. The broadcast location diagram for each channel (parameters of latitude, longitude, angle) can be easily found in Yandex or Google Map. If all channels are in the same direction (azimuth within 20 degrees +/- 1 degree), then it is easier to adjust the directional antenna.
    2. The sun can do a bad job, especially in Crimea, Kazakhstan, Israel and other sunny territories. You need to do special shading.

    In case you need different settings to get different channels, then:

    • Write down not only how many channels were selected based on the test results, but which of them are called, as well as their parameters.
    • Carry out a manual scan with the appropriate settings, add all channels in your TV menu, install an antenna for each channel.
    • Some TVs can remember channels. You can install this feature and automatically find broadcasters. To check the list, use a special tester that comes with the antenna.

    If you are the happy owner of a SMART-TV or want to connect a computer to an antenna, then you will need an express program for setting up a satellite dish (Fastsatfinder), it can be easily installed from a disk with your own hands, after which the device creates a telecard. The main advantage of this method: simplicity and speed, disadvantage: it can only be used on “smart” devices. Some extensions are even installed on Android and Linux.

    Prices and companies

    In any case, a specialist will be able to install the antenna faster and better than an amateur.

    Also, many antenna owners do not want to “play” with its installation, and therefore we suggest considering how much it costs to set up and install a satellite dish in different cities of Russia and Ukraine. Price table, cost of installing an azimuth satellite dish 43 cm, 0.55-0.6:

    Independent and professional setup of the satellite antenna Yamal (Yamal 201 90E), Tricolor TV Siberia (Tricolor), HotBird (HotBird), GAL, Orion, Samsung DSB-S300V is carried out within several hours, under normal weather conditions. The most popular models now are: SatelliteAntennaAlignment (Germany), ABS-1, LMI 75, ExpressAM2 80, Turksat 1C/2A 42E, Satgate, StrongSRT90 Multisat, HDHumaxVAHD-3100S, PBIDVR-1000S, Openbox®SF-20.

    How to configure satellite channels? It is difficult to install an antenna without experience. But you can figure this out on your own. If you have patience and no desire to pay installers for their services, then this instruction is for you.

    These same specialists were once without experience and knowledge, like you. But they learned their craft. Put in the effort and you will succeed. Moreover, after practicing on your antenna, you will be able to provide services to your friends or family.

    Be prepared for the fact that you may not succeed right away. It may take a week to first set up and install the antenna, but then you can complete all these steps in a couple of hours.

    Selecting a satellite

    Before choosing satellite channels, you need to decide from which satellite you will receive them. There are a huge number of such objects flying in space, and they are all broadcast by different TV channels.

    Signals from the following devices are perfectly received in Russia:

      Hot Bird at 13.0 degrees east longitude (several Russian channels and a large package of adult channels);

      Express AMU1 at 36 degrees E. (Tricolor TV and NTV+);

      Express AM6 at 53.0 degrees E. d.;

      Yamal 402 at 54.9 degrees east. d.;

      Express AT1 at 56.0 degrees E. (Tricolor TV Siberia and NTV+Vostok);

      ABS 2 at 75.0 degrees E. d. (MTS TV);

      Horizons 2 & Intelsat 15 at 85.0 degrees E. d. ("Continent TV"/"Telecard")

      Yamal 401 at 90.0 degrees east. d.;

      Express AM33 at 96.5 degrees E. d.

    Of course, there are other satellites, but these are in demand due to the large number of Russian-language channels. At all other sites there are no Russian channels, or they exist, but in very small quantities.

    The ones mentioned have both paid and paid ones. In the list above, all paid packages have been indicated in parentheses. Please note that Tricolor TV and NTV+ are broadcast on 36 and 56 degrees, but are called slightly differently. The channels and frequencies differ slightly there. Moreover, the encoding used is also different.

    The satellite, located at a position of 56 degrees, is most focused on the eastern part of Russia. And packages located at position 36 degrees are for the European part.

    If you do not plan to buy cards for paid viewing or use sharing, then you need to choose satellites that broadcast many free channels. For example, an excellent option would be a multi-feed consisting of satellites at positions 75, 85 and 90. All these signals can be received on one antenna since they are located close to each other. You can catch many open Russian channels using them.

    If you have a large antenna at home (180 centimeters in diameter), then you can hang a couple more heads at the edges. But it will be difficult for you to do this from scratch without experience. First, catch at least something with the head in the center (as shown in the figure), and then make additional fastenings to receive other satellites.

    Selecting viewing equipment

    For setup and further viewing you need special equipment. The complete set can always be purchased in specialized stores. If you want to watch NTV+, MTS TV, Tricolor TV or something else, then you can buy the equipment along with the receiver there.

    If you do not plan to watch paid channels, use sharing or watch only open ones, then it is better to buy from a store that is not associated with these television providers.

    Satellite antennas and heads are almost the same everywhere. But there is one difference. Some channels are broadcast on frequencies with circular polarization, and some - with linear polarization. In heads for circular polarization, a special plate is installed inside, which refracts the signal.

    Also different. It is advisable to take modern ones that support the latest generation of digital television. Older models do not accept many channels.

    Antenna installation

    Satellite channel settings are made only after the antenna is assembled.

    It must be secured as firmly as possible. Otherwise, in a strong wind it will move. And changing the position by even a couple of millimeters will greatly change the quality of the signal.

    Of course, you first need to firmly secure only the legs, and not the entire antenna. Otherwise it will be motionless.

    When attaching the antenna, you need to choose a position so that it faces in the direction where one or another satellite is located.

    Now you can find many programs that help determine their position using GPS. All you have to do is point the antenna in the direction the phone tells you to.

    Setting up satellite channels

    Self-tuning of satellite dish channels is done using special equipment. An example is shown in the figure below.

    If you do not plan to do this in the future, then there is no need to spend extra money. It is better to use the receiver that you bought for viewing. It also picks up signals very well.

    You need to open the frequency table of the channels of the satellite you need and enter the required value into the receiver.

    If you have a modern model, then fresh and working frequencies should be programmed into its database, which makes the search much easier. There is no need to manually enter so many numbers.

    After you have entered the frequency, flow rate, and polarization, you will need to move the antenna and head until the signal quality is as high as possible. If the signal quality is poor, your picture will either disappear or have various interferences. And in bad weather you will only watch a painting by Malevich. Therefore, you need to try to achieve the maximum signal level.

    Once you achieve the best signal, you need to start a search so that the channels are fixed in the database. The operating principle of all receivers is the same. Only the design changes. Plus, there are always hints.

    Setting up satellite channels on your TV

    Settings for satellite channels on your TV can be done using the same principle. Only the receiver is used built-in, not external. But there are some disadvantages here. The built-in receivers in the TV cannot open paid channels using sharing or any firmware. You will have to watch only open channels or buy an official card.

    Conclusion

    Before setting up your antenna, think twice and study where and what channels are broadcast. Please note that many of them are duplicated on all Russian-language satellites. Therefore, there is no point in catching every single one of them.

    Enjoy your viewing!

    Before purchasing equipment, we recommended choosing a suitable location for installing the antenna using a special application. Find in this place the most flat surface for attaching the bracket. Attach the bracket, circle the mounting holes with a pencil or marker, and after drilling them, attach the bracket using dowels. Tighten the screws until the bracket is attached to the wall as firmly as possible (apply pressure to check the strength). Next, “put” the antenna on the bracket, tighten the nuts on the fasteners and adjust the mirror angle as vertically as possible.
    If you have not done this before, install the converter in the holder with its head facing the plate.
    Strip the cable and install F-connectors on it (detailed instructions are here). Connect the cable to the converter.

    Setting the antenna and converter rotation angles

    The antenna is tuned according to 3 indicators: antenna rotation, antenna tilt and converter rotation. If the converter rotation is positive, turn it clockwise; if negative, turn it counterclockwise (you need to look at the converter from the antenna side).

    Turn on GPS on your smartphone and launch the previously installed SatFinder application, select the ABS 2 - 75 E satellite. The program will show the direction to the satellite on Google maps and directly in the sky, using the built-in camera, and also calculate the required angles of rotation and tilt of the antenna. The program will also help guide you to adjust the antenna at the desired angles.

    In addition to the SatFinder application, you can use:

    • Applications Dishpointer Pro, Satellite Director, Multifeed
    • Website geonames.ru
    • MTS setup wizard on the main MTS website
    • Special device (for example, satfinder dvs-sf 500)

    When using the device, enter the following data into it:
    LO Freq. 10600
    Down Freq. 9750 or 11920
    Symbol Rate 45000
    Polarity V
    DiSEqC1.0: OFF
    22K: OFF

    Checking the signal from the antenna using a set-top box

    After the antenna has been securely fixed and configured, connect the other end of the cable to the MTS set-top box (the connection procedure is described below). Try to minimize the length of the cable from the satellite dish to the set-top box (if it is more than 50 m, choose the most expensive and high-quality cable).
    In the set-top box menu, select the “Settings” section, in it the “Antenna Settings” item. You will be shown the quality and strength levels of the signal received by your antenna. If the signal is weak, then turn the antenna left and right and up and down to achieve a stable strong signal. The angle of rotation of the converter is responsible for the quality indicator. Achieve the highest possible value on the quality scale by turning the converter. After this, secure the antenna.
