• How to make a non-stretched screen on a computer. Expanding the screen on a laptop and entering full screen mode. Changing the display resolution

    But, the other day I decided to open another section - “This is interesting and useful.” In which there will be articles of utilitarian content, i.e. something like lessons, descriptions, etc.This article, from this section, addresses one of the problems that many of us periodically face on the Internet.

    Does it happen to you - you open, for example, a social network page, and see images and text in a small size? Sometimes it is so small that the text looks completely unreadable. You understand that this is a standard requirement for running blogs or websites. But I want to somehow change the situation.

    After thinking about it, I found three easy and quick ways how to solve this problem.

    I tried to show how I do it. I accompanied the description with screenshots to make it clearer to those who want to use these methods.

    Three easy and fast ways to resize the PC/laptop screen in Yandex and Google Chrome

    • Method one . Very fast, literally with one click (click) - using the so-called "hot keys".
    On the keyboard I press two keys at the same time: 1) Ctrl (in the picture under the number 1) and a key with a minus sign (-) or a plus sign (+). They are listed under number 2.

    That is, when I want to achieve an increase, I press “plus”. Accordingly, to reduce, I click the same way - on the Ctrl and minus keys. And that's it, the sizes instantly changed!

    • Method two. A little longer (well, half a minute) - in the settings of Yandex or Google Chrome.
    Let's look at two examples in turn.
    1. So, in the upper right corner of Yandex I find the “puck” (number 1), click on it. And in the window that opens (see picture), I move the mouse cursor over the word “Scale”. The size in brackets reflects the size I am currently using.

    For example, the scale was set to 125%. When you hover your mouse next to it, a new window immediately opens, with various options to choose from. The one that I currently have is already marked with a dot.

    All I have to do is select another value and click on it. And immediately the computer screen will change its size! Everything happens quickly, much faster than described.

    2. Now in Google Chrome. The algorithm of actions is the same. Only, fortunately, even shorter.

    When you click on the “puck”, still in the same upper corner, a window will open.
    And in it you just need to click on the plus or minus sign - depending on the need to enlarge or reduce the screen. If you try it right now, you will see for yourself that it is very easy and simple!

    Now, when I open various website pages, they expand at the specified scale. That is, the result is saved, and when moving to other blogs, etc., I don’t need to re-install everything on the desired scale.
    • Third way Available in Google Chrome. And it allows you to set not only the screen size, but also fix the desired font sizes for web documents.
    It is also done quite simply and quickly. Again, I open the Chrome menu in the browser toolbar, i.e. I click on the “puck”. Only now I select the “Settings” item.

    I switch to a new tab. At the very end of the page you need to click on the line “Show additional settings”.

    Here, scrolling down the page with the mouse, I stop at the “Web Content” item. Right there, without going anywhere, I click on the black triangle in the “Page Scale” line and easily change it.

    And since I ended up on this page, I decided to use the font settings. Fortunately, this is very easy to do.
    By clicking on the line “Customize fonts”, I go to a new tab.Here I note two parameters - I set the Standard and Minimum font sizes.
    the second way;

    And it always remains “at hand” method No. 1. If suddenly the font on the site is initially quite large, I reduce it using “hot keys”. Or, conversely, when you need to quickly zoom in on a paragraph, I use quick zoom.

    Agree, these are, indeed, three quick and easy ways to increase the screen size on a computer or laptop when working on the Internet. I think if you didn't know about them, you'll definitely like them.

    The issue of changing the display resolution and selecting its optimal value is quite acute for novice Windows users. Today we will touch on its solution, considering several different options for getting out of the situation.

    What is permission

    Typically, screen resolution refers to the size of the image formed on the display in pixels. It implies a value relative to the physical dimensions of the matrix: the number of pixels is divided by the physical size of the display in inches. That is, the number of pixels does not increase in proportion to the physical size of the display, which immediately dispels the myth: the larger the screen, the higher its resolution.

    Changing the resolution may be necessary after reinstalling Windows or drivers on the video card if its value was not set automatically. It is also necessary to expand the screen when launching games - routines do not always correctly determine the resolution settings in Windows in order to apply them to the game.

    Solving the problem in Windows 7

    You can change the resolution value (the number of pixels vertically and horizontally) on your computer using several methods.

    Feature integrated into Windows

    To expand the screen in Windows 7, we perform a list of simple actions that any beginner who wants to choose the optimal value for the number of pixels used to display the image on the display can handle.

    • Call the context menu of the desktop area free of icons and select “Screen resolution”.

    The second method to open the same window is through the Control Panel item called Display. Click on its icon and select “Adjust screen resolution”.

    • In the line of the same name, select the desired value from the list of suggested ones.
    • Click “Apply” to evaluate the selected settings.

    Follow the advice of the monitor developers and select the optimal setting value they recommend. There is always a “Recommended” sign next to it. If there are two or three items in the list, check whether the drivers are installed on your video card. Without them, you won't be able to change the resolution to a higher resolution than 1024x768.

    Video card driver

    If you have a video adapter driver installed, you can change the extension using the software that comes with the driver. Moreover, these programs will differ for different video chip manufacturers, but the principle will remain the same, and the algorithm for changing the extension value will be almost identical.

    nVidia

    When using more popular and, as a result, more expensive with the same performance, video cards from nVidia, the control panel for device operating modes will help you change the resolution.

    • Call the context menu of free desktop space.
    • Select the item highlighted in the screenshot to launch the window for setting up various video card parameters.

    • Expand the “Display” menu item, where we click on the link shown below.

    • When using multiple monitors, select the target for which we want to change the settings and determine the resolution value.

    As already mentioned, you should choose your own resolution, assigned to the first position.

    • Apply the new settings and close the window.

    If you have a video card developed on an ATI graphics chip from Radeon, we perform the following steps in Windows 7.

    • Call up the desktop context menu and click on the first item in the drop-down menu, or open the application via its tray icon.

    • Click on the “Display” button, then click on “Advanced settings”.

    • Select the desired parameter or enter it manually (which is also allowed) and save the changes made.

    Third Party Applications

    In addition to the proposed options, which are considered classic, it is possible to change the resolution using special programs. These are utilities for setting up the monitor, overclocking and configuring the video card.

    Let's look at how to do this in a video adapter overclocking application called PowerStrip and a program designed to set display performance characteristics.

    • Launch the PowerStrip program in Windows.
    • Drag the slider located in the “Resolution” frame.
    • Click “Save” to apply the parameters.

    Currently, household and electronic equipment stores offer a large number of monitor models. Each buyer, when choosing, is guided by the goals that he sets for himself while working at the computer.

    Some tasks require a larger screen area. This problem can be solved using the built-in capabilities of the operating system. As an example, let's try to expand the screen on the monitor in several ways.

    Quick navigation through the article

    Screen resolution

    The procedure for setting the screen resolution depends on the version of the operating system.

    In Windows XP you need:

    • Select “Properties” -> “Options”;
    • Set the appropriate resolution.

    On Windows 7 or Windows 8 you must:

    • Right-click on the desktop;
    • Open the “Screen Resolution” window;
    • Set resolution.

    Operating system failure

    Sometimes the screen becomes narrower as a result of a reinstallation or failure of the operating system, and the extension setting does nothing (or is not available). In this case you can:

    • Use the control panel on your computer monitor;
    • Check and, if necessary, reinstall the video card driver.

    Video card driver

    The reason for the narrowing of the screen on the monitor is often problems with the video card driver. To check it, you need to:

    • Right-click on “My Computer”;
    • Go to the “Properties” section;
    • Open "Device Manager";
    • Find the video card and check if there is an exclamation mark next to it;
    • In the context menu called with the right mouse button, select “Update driver” or reinstall the software manually.

    Additional monitor

    Changing the standard resolution supported by your monitor may result in poor image quality. Therefore, in such cases, you can use a different monitor. To do this you need:

    • Connect another monitor to the second video card connector;
    • Go to the monitor settings menu;
    • Click the “Find” button;
    • Wait until the system recognizes the additional device;
    • Select the graphic image of the second monitor;
    • Activate the “Set this screen as the main” function.
    • Select the “Extend this screen” option (all shortcuts will disappear on the additional monitor, only the desktop image will be displayed);
    • You can launch an application on an additional monitor by dragging it with the cursor outside the first monitor.
    • Set the monitors to the same resolution (otherwise, not the entire work area will be occupied on one of them).

    The best solution to make your computer screen smaller/larger is to buy a new monitor with a different diagonal. But if this is not possible, you can change the size of the image on the display using software. There is no need to install additional software, since they are all built into the Windows OS.

    Increasing the size of screen elements

    In the context menu on the desktop, find the penultimate item - “Display settings”. To call this menu, right-click on any free space on the desktop. In the Windows 10 interface, you can go to this item through the notification panel, path: “All settings -> System -> Screen”.

    Move the slider responsible for the scale of the elements. The default value is 100%, application text and interface elements have standard sizes. Depending on the monitor resolution you are using, the upper percentage limit may vary.

    In the OS interface, the changes made will be applied immediately, and the image elements will become larger. But some user programs will use the changed settings only after you re-login to your account. To do this, click “Log out now” and then log in to your computer again.

    Changing Resolution in Windows

    To make the entire picture on your monitor larger, go to the “Advanced Screen Settings” section. The link to it is located at the bottom of the settings page.

    Select your desired computer resolution. The larger it is, the smaller the picture will be. Conversely, a lower resolution enlarges the image. This parameter is indicated in pixels, for example “1024 x 768”. The first number is responsible for the number of dots on the display horizontally, the second - vertically. The list of supported resolutions is determined by the monitor and video card settings. After selecting the desired value, click “Apply”.

    Zooming in on individual elements

    The rest of the computer screen settings can be changed according to the old scheme, through the classic control panel. To go to it, click on the penultimate link in the current window.

    Here you can return to settings through the Windows 10 interface, turn on Magnifier, or set a custom computer screen zoom level. The changes will take effect after clicking the “Apply” button in the lower right corner.

    Important! Do not set the sizes too large, as the data will not fit in its place. In this case, some information in applications will not be visible.

    You can also make individual parts of the computer interface larger or smaller:

    • Message windows
    • Panel names
    • Badges
    • Hints

    In this case, a preview will be available, allowing you to evaluate the changes made before confirming them.

    Tutorial Video: Adjusting Monitor Resolution

    Master's answer:
    The correct display of image elements on a computer screen, the ability to work on it without straining your eyesight - all this depends on what screen resolution parameters are set. Usually, after the operating system has been reinstalled or system files have been updated, it turns out that the screen resolution is set incorrectly.

    There are two reasons that the image is stretched: first, because the screen settings are set incorrectly; the second is the lack of the necessary driver for the video card installed in the system.

    In the first case, it is very easy to correct the stretched screen. If you are using the Windows XP operating system, then open “Start”, then “Control Panel”, then “Display”. In the window that opens, select the “Options” tab and use the slider to set the required screen resolution. If you have a regular monitor, then the normal screen resolution is 1024x768 pixels. If you have a monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is typical for a laptop, then the required screen resolution is 1366x768 pixels. Once you have set the slider to the option you want, click OK. The screen resolution will change. Evaluate it and if it is normal, then confirm the changes in the corresponding window that will appear on your screen. If not, then select a different screen setting.

    If you have the Windows 7 operating system installed, then in order to change the screen resolution, right-click on an empty area of the desktop. A context menu will open in which you need to select “Screen Resolution”. Next, you configure the screen resolution in the same way as for Windows XP.

    If you do not have a video card driver, then the situation is somewhat more complicated. It’s easy to find out whether the driver is installed - open any window, for example “My Computer”, and try to move it with the mouse. If the window moves with noticeable distortion, slowly, jerkily, this means that the driver is missing.

    To install the driver, open “Start”, then “Control Panel”, then “System”. In the window that appears, select the “Hardware” tab, click on the “Device Manager” button, and select “Video adapters” from the list. If the driver is not installed, the video card will be marked with a yellow question mark. Double-click on the line with the question mark. A window will appear in which you need to click on the “Reinstall” button. Insert the driver disk you have into the drive and click Next. The program will automatically find and install the necessary files. If the driver is located on your computer’s hard drive, you should specify the path to it.

    Difficulties mainly arise when you need to install video card drivers on a laptop. To find out which driver you need, use the Aida64 (Everest) program. You need to run the program and look at the video card data. Using the data obtained, go to the laptop manufacturer's website and find the required driver.

    Sometimes you can solve the problem with installing drivers on a laptop with the Windows XP operating system using an installation disk with a Windows XP Zver build. This assembly contains many drivers, but you won’t be able to install them right away because they are packaged. To do this, find the archive you need in the OEMDRV folder. Copy it and extract it. After this, run the driver installation process again and specify the path to the unpacked driver.
