    This is the first firmware of the global stable nine, which is based on Android Oreo (as indicated by the first letter “O” in).

    Having received a notification on their smartphone, many users began to doubt whether it was worth installing the latest update? Where did such doubts come from?

    Xiaomi's update policy is such that the manufacturer does not provide a new version of the system to all users at the same time. To begin with, it is only distributed to users in the “Nightly” version. Thanks to this, everyone can find out about errors and unpleasant bugs before the global update.

    After updating to the new version, many Xiaomi Mi 6 users complain about the following main disadvantages:

    • no sound when notifying applications such as Telegram or Gmail,
    • problem with AOSP notifications,
    • various problems with Bluetooth,
    • cyclic reboots after changing the theme (bootloops),
    • animation deterioration,
    • annoying notifications in apps running in the background,
    • Smart Lock doesn't work.

    We can only wait for the developers to fix these errors in the new update. Therefore, if you are completely satisfied with the current version and there are no serious complaints about the operation of the smartphone, then you should wait for now to install the latest update for Mi 6.

    Since the topic of firmware is quite global and many people want to receive instructions specifically for their phone model, I decided to write a universal post in which I will talk about how to install software on a Xiaomi smartphone, and at the same time share links to the latest firmware versions. This article will be relevant both for existing Xiaomi devices and newly released ones.

    Here is a complete list of devices for which the manufacturer is currently releasing official international firmware versions:

    • Mi 2/2S;
    • Mi 3;
    • Mi 4;
    • Mi 4i;
    • Mi 5;
    • Mi Note;
    • Mi Max 16/32 GB;
    • Redmi 1s;
    • Redmi Note 4G;
    • Redmi Note Prime;
    • Redmi Note 2;
    • Redmi Note 3 Pro;
    • Redmi Note 3 Special Edition;
    • Redmi Note 4;
    • Redmi 2;
    • Redmi 3;
    • Redmi 3s.

    Some smartphones were not included in the list because these devices are produced for the Chinese domestic market and the developer does not release official international versions. However, you can install localized software yourself. There are corresponding instructions for a smartphone, and for other devices the steps are similar, you just need to download the firmware for a specific device.

    Take note! When changing the firmware version, to avoid unstable operation of the smartphone, it is recommended to reset to factory settings. In the future, when updating the software, you will not have to repeat this procedure. Also make sure that the battery is charged more than 60%, ideally it should be 100%, in order to be able to resuscitate the smartphone in case of force majeure situations. As the author of this article, I do not bear any responsibility for your devices. Everything you do, you do at your own peril and risk. However, if something goes wrong, then you can contact me and I will try to help you.

    Before you start updating the smartphone software, the MiFlash application and the necessary drivers must be installed on your computer. I described how to do this correctly.

    System update

    If the official international firmware is already installed on your smartphone and you just want to update it, then there is nothing easier than using the built-in application. Download the firmware file for recovery in zip format to the internal memory of the device in a folder downloaded_rom. Find the program shortcut on the desktop Update (Updater) and launch it. In the application that opens, in the upper right corner, click on the icon with three dots and select the item Select firmware file (Choose update package).

    Next, you need to indicate where the archive with the previously downloaded firmware is located and confirm the installation. The smartphone will check the file and installation will begin; when completed, the system will automatically reboot. The process is long, so be patient.

    Also in this application you can set up automatic check for updates and you will always have the latest version of MIUI firmware installed.

    This method should not be used if you are changing the firmware type, for example, from a developer version to stable, or updating from Chinese firmware. For these purposes, you need to use the following methods.

    Update in Recovery mode

    Important. Due to differences in the Recovery mode interface, this method is not applicable to some Redmi smartphones equipped with MTK processors and devices with a locked bootloader. Sometimes a software update requires a factory reset, so be careful when agreeing to this or that item.

    Download the firmware file for recovery in zip format to the internal memory and rename it update.zip. This can be done in advance on the computer, and then transfer the archive to the device. It is extremely important that the renamed file is located in the root of the repository, and not in some folder.

    Now you need to reboot your smartphone into recovery mode. This can be done in two ways:

    1. In the application Update (Updater) in the upper right corner, click on the icon with three dots and select the item ( Reboot to Recovery mode).
    2. Turn off the smartphone. Press and hold the volume up and power buttons simultaneously for 3-5 seconds until Recovery mode appears.

    The cursor in Recovery mode is controlled using the volume rocker, and the power button is used to confirm the command. Thus, select English and click Install update.zip to System One to start the update. After successful completion, the smartphone must be rebooted by pressing Reboot to System One.

    Update in Fastboot mode

    On some new devices, you must first unlock the bootloader to use this method. Now this procedure takes 1-2 days and there is nothing complicated about it, the main thing is to follow the instructions.

    Turn off the smartphone and put it into Fastboot mode. To do this, you need to simultaneously press and hold the volume down and power buttons until a rabbit appears on the screen.

    Download and unpack the firmware for fastboot into a folder on your PC that does not contain Cyrillic characters. Launch the MiFlash.exe application, in the window that opens, click on the button Browse and indicate the folder in which you unzipped the software. Also, do not forget to mark the corresponding update mode in the bottom line: Flash all (all data is deleted), Flash all except starage (data is saved on the internal memory) and Flash all except data and starage (programs and data are saved on the internal memory).

    We connect the device to the computer using a microUSB cable and press the button in the application Refresh. If the drivers are installed correctly, the window should display the com port to which the device is connected.

    After the release of the new miui 8.0 firmware for Xiaomi devices, there was a massive wave of loss of performance. It was caused by incorrect user updates. Therefore, before you independently update the old miui 7.0 to the eighth version, you need to read the instructions and take into account the features of the smartphone.

    Most recently, at the request of readers, we told you about how to repair Sony Xperia, now we are fulfilling the following wish and providing you with instructions on how to update Xiaomi!

    Procedure:

    The update can be done in several ways!

    1st official – go to settings – select the “about phone” item, find the version of the current kernel – tap, and click update. The advantages of this method are the complete safety of the transition. However, it has a big drawback, until the system enters the final version, it is not possible to update to miui 8.0. Therefore, you will have to wait for the official announcement of the system

    2nd method using w3bsit3-dns.com and the Russian community. Both resources contain kernels for each supported Xiaomi smartphone. To do this, download the firmware files.

    After this the fun begins. You will have to install a Linux system on your PC (any distribution will do, but the optimal solution would be to use Ubuntu). After which we set the root rights on the phone (in each device, obtaining superuser rights is different). Next, we connect the phone to the PC, in root mode, and change the directory for receiving the new kernel to the directory where the system was downloaded.

    Next, we disable engineering on the phone and run the executable firmware file on the PC. Only after this we repeat the points from the first method. The kernel will automatically update to the one found on the PC.

    This method has several dangers. Firstly, if the kernel of the current system does not match the kernel type on miui 8, then there is a high risk of the device losing its functionality.

    Secondly, the phone perceives the cable connection as an Internet connection, so there may be a risk of installing broken files on the phone. Therefore, if problems occur, reinstall the kernel.

    Note: Despite all the above instructions, remember that the miui 8.0 android operating system is currently in beta testing. This means that neither the manufacturer nor the instructions can guarantee a perfect transition without problems. If any problems occur, please contact your nearest Xiaomi customer service center.

    How to reflash miui?

    With the advent of new firmware from Xiaomi, users began massive requests for updates to the new miui. After all, all old devices support new firmware, which can overclock the phone to new heights and compare it with more powerful models from competitors. How to update miui to a newer version? Using distribution files.
    To do this, you will need firmware files from the Russian-speaking community or w3bsit3-dns.com. Download the files, go to the settings, set root rights, then change the directory used to update the firmware - and launch a regular system update. If the kernels are compatible, the phone will automatically update to the latest version of miui. Otherwise, it will report incompatible kernels or missing files in the specified directory.
    using a programmer.
    This method is suitable for advanced users, but it guarantees the transition to a new miui as well as a lot of other features during the firmware process. Its disadvantage is the high risk of losing the phone's functionality if the instructions are not followed.
    To flash the device using a programmer, you need an 8-pin programmer with a Micro USB output. We first download the necessary firmware to the programmer. This can be done via the OS Linux command line (the optimal solution would be to install Gentoo, but if you are not an advanced user of this OS family, you can try repeating the operation via Debian linux). We manually upload each file to the programmer. Next, using specialized software, we check the safety of the files.
    Next, we connect the programmer to the phone and launch the system recovery mode (usually for this you need to hold down both the sound and power keys when turned off). In the resulting menu, select the “debug” mode, and then launch the programmer. This will be enough to completely flash the kernel. Remember that if the kernel is not up to date or has been upgraded, there is a risk of getting a bricked phone instead.

    Note:

    Remember that the new miui 8.0 is a beta version of an OS that is not yet ready, so when you install it, you will lose the guaranteed support from Xiaomi in case the device fails. Therefore, it is better to give the phone for flashing to the official support center for Russian-speaking clients. This will allow you to maintain the warranty on the device and get a new version of miui absolutely free.

    How to buy original Xiaomi?

    What progress has come - since the Chinese manufacturer Faq Brandam No. 1 entered the top 10 smart technology manufacturers, it has been subjected to a wave of copying. And if every schoolchild can distinguish an original Apple from a fake, then how to identify Xiaomi?
    This is quite difficult - but there are several main differences that will allow you to identify a cheap Chinese counterfeit from an even cheaper Chinese brand.

    Interface and screen

    The first thing that should catch the eye of users who have just opened Xiaomi is the quality of the screen. Cheap counterfeits are equipped with TFT panels with low color rendering quality, while the originals are equipped with powerful IPS matrices with high pixel density.
    The second thing you need to look at is the kernel build version. All Xiaomi are equipped with the inconvenient Android miui 8.0, the use of which is simply hell for the average person. If your device has a simple Android installed, then it’s a fake. If you don’t understand, then look at the menu - settings - about phone - kernel version.
    Check by IMEI and S/N (serial number)
    The second way to check your phone is to install it by opening it. So, having found records about imei, enter it on the site and check whether what is written corresponds to the real one. If the data does not match, then the phone is either stolen and repackaged, or it is a fake.

    Scratch code verification

    The Chinese are a smart nation, so they attached a hidden security code to each phone. By entering this code on the manufacturer's website, you should see all the data about your phone, including its current owner. If the information does not match - or the site gives an error, then you have a non-original Xiaomi.

    Special application

    Download a special application from Palymarket without leaving the store. Use it to check your phone for originality. If he does not confirm it, then it is a fake, and you can reduce the price from the seller.

    What to do?

    If the phone does not pass the test, it means it is a fake or stolen (which happens more often, stolen phones are repackaged and sold abroad). In this case, there is only one way out - get rid of the phone as quickly as possible by returning it to the seller with a receipt.
