Laser engraving on MacBook
From the conversation it is clear that someone who is related to our respected sellers was talking to me.
The situation in brief is this: the alarm went off throughout Rus' that Apple computers, which are not acceptable to laser method Engraved (keys) are removed from the apple worldwide warranty. I was immediately alarmed by some illogicality of this kind of policy.
I decided to look into the issue. The approximate scheme is as follows: our importers enter into an agreement with Apple, which, in addition to the sale, implies a worldwide guarantee, then they buy goods from Apple and sell them in Russia, and here importers also enter into an agreement with service centers that must repair equipment sold by importers, but so Since there is an agreement with Apple, the service center must repair the equipment that citizens bought not from this particular importer, and not even in this country. Everything seems logical, but if you look at the law on the protection of consumer rights, it is clear that such structures as SCs are not described in it and, accordingly, cannot be held accountable by the court under this law on full grounds. It follows from this that you can sue either the importer (seller), if the product was purchased from him, or directly with Apple, as the manufacturer (but Apple is not represented in our country and there is no one to sue). Thus, if a laptop was purchased outside of Russia, then the court has no prospects.
However, there is no need for a trial! Nowhere except Russia does anyone try to void the warranty for keyboard engraving, which you can easily verify by calling, for example, the Apple store in Finland (they don’t care about our passion for keyboards at all).
And in general, I very soon realized that the warranty on Apple products is canceled by Apple itself and no one here in Russia can remove the warranty. If, for example, you flood your laptop with water, then photographs of the insides should be sent to Apple, which will decide whether to cancel the warranty. As I wrote above, nowhere in the world except Russia (where there is no Apple :)), the guarantee is not removed for engraving. And thus, even if you take a photo of the keyboard and send it to Apple, no cancellation of the warranty will follow.
I decided to make sure of this and call the Apple representative office in Russia, and then the SC (in St. Petersburg).
Both calls were very funny, first I called the SC, where a girl answered the phone and said:
-That's right, we are removing the guarantee for engraving.
I asked to call adults to the phone :), they called a repairman, who said in a sad voice that, of course, we wouldn’t void the warranty, but we wouldn’t fix the keyboard “if anything” and in general - he was, apparently, a good, slightly tired man :).
Then I decided to call the Russian apple support in Moscow (unfortunately the call is paid).
There a girl picked up the phone, who, after listening to me, simply began to shout at me loudly that we would revoke the guarantee because I supposedly violated license agreement, which I agreed with upon purchase (by the way, this can also be disputed because I agree only when registering the laptop), after 10 minutes of our conversation the girl sadly admitted that they would not remove the warranty, but they would not repair it, after another 10 minutes she said, that they can and will repair, but they have the right not to repair :), in general, I was tired of it and I decided to leave the girl alone, because her work is clearly harder than mine, and the call costs money: why delay if everything is already clear.

There you can see the status of the guarantees and their expiration date. And no one in Russia can change what is written there. Also, all over the world, such things as keyboard engraving and stickers on the keys do not affect the warranty and cannot be the reason for denial of warranty claims. The only thing that can happen in Russia is that the service center, under pressure from the importer, will refuse repairs, since all these structures (importer, seller and service center) have, in fact, nothing to do with Apple, it is very difficult to put pressure on them and it is only possible to manipulate their relationship with Apple. But in fact, it doesn’t go beyond words, they cannot revoke the warranty, it is unprofitable to refuse repairs for many reasons, so all they can do is scare.
And yes, there is no letter from Apple, there is internal correspondence with the European importer, which simply states that there is a clause in the License Agreement, which describes what the change functionality leads to the removal of the warranty, but again the decision is made by Apple, and the engraving will never be recognized as a change in functionality.
P.S. It is clear that citizen sellers are trying to find a loophole to complicate ordinary people life :), so I think that the most promising way is to purchase Apple equipment in Finland with a VAT refund. Friends advised me to come here. Today I engraved my MacBook, which had stickers on it. The guys peeled them off and then scrubbed them, achieving perfect cleanliness of the buttons.
