Good phone, still alive. The battery holds perfectly. Only in the description it says Micro SIM cards, it actually has 2 standard SIM cards, not micro. After it I fell in love with Lenovo, I’m looking for a replacement among its brothers, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it... The dialer is excellent, everything works.

Overall the smartphone is so-so. It often produces errors from one or another application. For no apparent reason, the connection is interrupted (the MTS SIM card does not pick up even in the city on the street). You have to reboot regularly for it to work properly. After 3 years of use in business mode, after many hassles with the phone, I’m thinking about replacing it.

The phone was simply cool for its time. It still works today and it would be a shame to replace it.

I came across the Lenovo P780 smartphone, which I myself purchased in April, so I’ll tell you about it.

I had been dreaming about such a smartphone for a long time, since my old one, of course, could no longer provide what I wanted from it.

For example, it had a very bad camera and of course the battery was not enough even for a day, if you use wireless networks, and I would also like the screen to be larger and clearer than TFT.

That’s why I actually paid attention to the Lenovo P780 model, because it has a high-quality screen with IPS technology that supports 10 touches simultaneously, the diagonal of which is 5 inches, and the resolution is 1280x720, besides, it also has a 4000 mAh battery, i.e. Every tablet has this power supply.

That’s why I bought this model, it cost me about 7,300 rubles, perhaps now it costs a little less, but at that time this price was quite decent.

This device looks nice, there is nothing superfluous on the front, only the front camera, a speaker for conversation and a light sensor:

And on the back of the phone there is an 8 megapixel camera, as well as a flash, which especially pleased me, because...

because sometimes you need to take a picture in the dark or in low light:

There is an additional microphone next to the camera to make it more convenient to record video, and at the bottom there is a high-quality music speaker that will allow you to listen to music or watch a movie without connecting headphones or other audio devices to it.

Under the cover of the smartphone there are slots for two regular SIM cards, one of which can operate in 3G mode, and next to it is a memory card slot. Initially I used the 8GB one I had, but then I bought one with 32GB, which works fine.

The battery of this device is 4000 mAh, so it is non-removable, but it can provide almost 20 hours of continuous video viewing or a couple of days of work in active mode, since that’s what I’m used to.

I bought this phone in a Chinese online store, however, Lenovo itself is a Chinese company, so it was cheaper there than in stores in our city, there were no problems with delivery.

The phone was securely packaged, but the installed operating system turned out to be half in English, not Russian, which is why I later had to change it myself to Android 4.2.2, which I still use.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, because the smartphone works well and despite the fact that I was not satisfied with the video recording function (the camera makes small clicks when autofocusing, which also appear in the video) and the front camera is only 0.3 megapixel, the rest is functional and The capabilities of the smartphone are pleasing.

  • Lenovo P780 Android is a new generation mobile device from the “long-livers” line from Lenovo.

    A little about category "P"

In the Lenovo smartphone classifier there is one very interesting category of mobile devices, which is designated by the letter “P”. Under this letter are hidden devices that can not only compete with the level of popularity among users, but also give odds to their flagship counterparts. This category includes mobile devices that are aimed at a business audience. This does not mean the cost of a class “P” device, but the reliability of gadgets, the daily management of important matters, and the uninterrupted performance of various tasks. In order for smartphones to safely perform their functions, the manufacturer equipped the series we are considering with very capacious batteries - this is their main feature. In addition, they have the ability to use two SIM cards - also one of the main requirements for a modern mobile device among business people.

Now let's move directly to the model that interests us. The new Lenovo P780 smartphone differs from its predecessors (P700i and P700) in literally everything: a large number of processor cores, a new operating system, a large screen, a capacious battery, a better camera, etc. Let’s look at these parameters in more detail.

    Main Features

The phone has a MediaTekMT6589 (1.2 GHz) SoC processor, ARMCortex-A7 and 1 GB of RAM. Internal memory Lenovo P780 - 8Gb. The smartphone supports The device operates in the standard of modern GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G WCDMA (900/2100 MHz) networks. The touchscreen display (IPS) of the device has a diagonal of five inches (1280 × 720, 293 ppi). But that's not all! The phone has a standard set of functions: Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, A-GPS, GPS, gyroscope, electronic compass, light and proximity sensors. The front camera is 0.3 MP, and the main one is 8 MP with autofocus and LED flash.

High-resolution cameras are installed on all “P” category devices, and the Lenovo P780 is no exception. Smartphone firmware - Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. The overall dimensions of the device are 143 × 73 × 9.95 mm, weight - 176 g. The main feature of the phone is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh.

    Scope of delivery

The Lenovo P780 smartphone goes on sale in a spacious cardboard box covered with light paper. In appearance, the packaging is very simple, but quite neat and practical. The set includes a powerful (and therefore not very compact) charger, a Micro-USB connection cable, headphones, and an OTG adapter for connecting external peripheral devices and flash drives to the smartphone. A case for Lenovo P780 is not included in the package.

    Appearance

The phone has a discreet appearance. Although the device does not look expensive, it still exudes some clear precision of all lines and contours, thoughtful brevity, unshakable solidity and, one might even say, slight brutality.

We can definitely say that this phone is a man's device. Its external structure reflects minimalism - the absence of ostentation and tinsel. The weight and overall dimensions are quite large, so it is not suitable for every hand, especially women’s. The considerable weight of the smartphone is explained by the presence of a metal back cover and a huge capacity battery, which is the calling card of the Lenovo P780.

The characteristics of the phone speak for themselves, and its incredible “survivability” will be discussed below. So it’s hard to attribute considerable weight to disadvantages; rather, it’s a plus of this model. Now about the back cover: it is made of a thick metal profile. This is rare for modern phones, but not for Lenovo devices. Naturally, this gives the device additional weight, but also strength: when you take the Lenovo P780 in your hand, you immediately feel its solid reliability.

We remove the back panel, and a standard picture for mobile devices opens to our eyes: three slots are located in a row above the battery (one for a memory card and two for SIM cards), which have a slot structure, that is, the contents are held in them solely due to friction. In addition, there is a small red button designed to force the device to reboot.

With the back cover on, the rear surface of the device looks standard: in the upper part there is a video camera window framed by a metal rim, and next to it there is an LED flash eye, which can be used as a flashlight.

The entire front panel of the phone is covered with protective glass. Hidden underneath is the front camera, touch sensors, an earpiece grille, and three application and system control buttons. Along the perimeter of the device's body there is a chrome-plated metal rim - a thin strip recessed into the plastic so much that it does not cause any inconvenience with its slippery and smooth surface. The rest of the phone is rough and matte, thanks to which the device is firmly held in the palm of your hand without becoming covered in fingerprints. A rather practical case is undoubtedly a plus of the Lenovo P780 Black.

    Disadvantages of management functionality

Despite its many advantages, the smartphone is far from ideal. Let's look at what shortcomings were identified by the owners of the Lenovo P780 model. User reviews report that the device has a significant drawback - the poor location of the power/lock key. It, like most smartphones, is located at the top end of the case. However, the designers did not take into account the fact that the device has very impressive overall dimensions, so reaching this button with your finger is very inconvenient. Often, developers implement an alternative option for waking up the device: unlocking is done by tapping the screen. However, such a function was not provided for by the designers of the Lenovo P780.

Owner reviews point out another drawback of the model - it is also a universal Micro-USB interface connector located at the upper end of the case. For some reason it is closed with a rubber stopper, and the device is not protected from moisture and dust, and the adjacent audio output jack is not equipped with any plugs. This solution is not only strange, but also inconvenient: the user constantly has to pry off the very hard cover with his nails, and then he also needs to hold it, since it interferes with connecting the cable to the connector. Some owners prefer to tear off this plug and do without it in the future.

In addition to the elements listed above, there is one more key on the device body - a paired volume control button, which is located on the right side of the device. It is quite large, presses well, is made of metal, but its location is also inconvenient. It is located too high, and it is still difficult for the finger to reach it. This is where the owners' complaints about the smartphone's functionality end.

    Screen

This element is the pride of the Lenovo P780. The screen of this model is an IPS matrix measuring 62 x 110 mm, the diagonal of which is 127 mm (5 inches) with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. The display brightness is adjusted both manually and automatically, the latter based on the operation of light sensors. The multi-touch technology implemented in the smartphone allows you to process up to ten simultaneous touches. In addition, the device has a proximity sensor that locks the screen when you bring the device to your ear. The front surface of the monitor is made in the form of a plate with a mirror-smooth surface, which is very resistant to scratches. It is equipped with effective anti-glare protection, which is not inferior to the Google Nexus 7 in terms of brightness reduction.

The screen has a good viewing angle without significant color shift even with a large deviation of the view from perpendicular to the monitor and without inverting shades. Color rendition is good, colors are saturated. The balance of shades on the gray scale is medium. This is explained by the fact that the color temperature exceeds the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the spectrum of an ideal black body is noticeably higher than 12, which is not considered the best indicator for a consumer device. But with all this, the mentioned parameters deviate slightly from the norm, and this has a positive effect on the visual perception of color balance.

To summarize, it can be noted that the screen has a high level of maximum brightness and effective anti-glare protection, so you can comfortably use the smartphone on a sunny summer day. If there is no natural light, the brightness level can be reduced. It is permissible to use the automatic adjustment mode; it works quite adequately. The advantages of the Lenovo P780 model (owner reviews confirm this) include excellent oleophobic coating, sRGB coverage, high contrast, no flickering and no air gap between the layers of the screen, good stability of black color to deviations from perpendicular to the display plane. It is difficult to call the color balance ideal, but without a standard for comparison it is difficult to notice. The main disadvantage of the screen is the low uniformity of color and brightness parameters across the display area. Overall, we get a high-quality monitor on an IPS matrix.

    Sound capabilities

The owners' smartphone cannot boast of sound capabilities - a direct confirmation of this. People note that the ringing speaker bursts out with a very loud and very unpleasant piercing sound, which is dominated by ringing high frequencies - there is no bass at all. In the headphones that come with the kit, the situation is the opposite. The sounds are overly saturated with low frequencies, so much so that sometimes it is impossible to even make out the words of the song (however, this disadvantage is partially eliminated thanks to adjustments using the equalizer), and the maximum level is not high enough. So we can make a clear conclusion that the Lenovo P780 is not a music solution. Even in terms of software, manufacturers have limited themselves to installing just a standard application.

The smartphone has an FM receiver that only works with connected headphones, and a voice recorder designed for creating audio notes. Consumers are pleased with the ability to record a telephone conversation directly from the line, which is very convenient. But access to the entry created in this way can only be obtained using a special file manager, since it is not reflected next to the completed call in the call list, as in other smartphones.

    Camera

The smartphone is equipped with two digital cameras. The front has a 0.3 megapixel resolution sensor without flash and autofocus - the maximum size of the resulting image is 1280 x 720. The rear camera has an 8-megapixel module with an LED flash. The possibility of manual and automatic focusing is provided. The maximum size of the resulting image is 3264 x 2448. The sharpness drops smoothly when you zoom out, although there are some blurry fragments in places. Software processing acts quite moderately and reasonably, and does not try to spoil the details of the background. With insufficient lighting and a high level of photosensitivity, color noise may appear that cannot be processed. But the camera copes with its task perfectly in normal lighting (including in cloudy weather). In this case, minor software processing becomes an advantage - it does not spoil the natural sharpness. Overall, the camera can hardly be called outstanding, however, as evidenced by the responses from owners of such a device, it is quite suitable for high-quality documentary shooting in good lighting conditions. The smartphone can shoot video. The user has a choice of different modes, up to FullHD. The rollers arrive in a special 3GP container. Video - in MPEG4 Video format 1920 × 1088 30 fps 24.6 Mbit/s. Sound is in AAC 48 kHz format, stereo 128 Kbps.

The camera is controlled using Lenovo's own software called Super Camera. Of course, it’s difficult to call it the most convenient of all possible interfaces: there are a lot of different icons along the entire perimeter of the screen. Users emphasize that these symbols, as well as the displayed settings menu itself, are too finely drawn. In addition, the menu has only a horizontal position, which is not very convenient. Another drawback is the lack of a dedicated hardware shutter key for the camera, but its function is performed by the volume button. During video recording, you can take photographs.

    Communications and telephone part

The smartphone operates on 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks, but there is no support for the fourth generation LTE network. In addition, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and NFC technology are not supported. Lenovo P780 allows you to organize a wireless point via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi channels; there are Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Display modes that communicate with a wireless projector. The navigation module only supports GPS/A-GPS standards; the smartphone will not work with the Glonass system.

The layout and placement of the keys are standard. Users note that there is no dedicated top digital row here. Therefore, you need to constantly switch the layout. Changing languages is done by clicking on the globe icon. The drawing of numbers and letters on the virtual keyboard is quite comfortable to control. Phone applications support Smart Dial - while dialing a number, a simultaneous search is carried out through existing contacts. In general, according to reviews from owners, the smartphone has very convenient functionality that you quickly get used to.

The operation of two SIM cards is organized using the Dual SIM Dual Standby standard, that is, both cards are in active mode, but do not work at the same time, since there is only one radio module in the phone. The smartphone does not have the ability to switch operating modes of 2G/3G slots. The SIM card installed in the first compartment always works in 3G mode, the second, respectively, in 2G. The Lenovo P780 smartphone (the instructions describe this in detail) allows you to configure various conditions for SIM cards in a special section. For example, assign any of them as the main one for data transmission, organizing voice communications or sending SMS messages. If necessary, when dialing a number, the user can always choose which card to make the call from. This point also deserves praise.

    P780 Lenovo: firmware and OS

The operating system in the smartphone is Google's software platform - Android with Lenovo's proprietary interface. The default version is 4.2.1. However, today updates are available, for example, Lenovo P780 Kitkat Android 4.4. In general, the graphical component of the software shell is quite nice: few colors, no riot of colors, support for predominantly white tones - everything is serious and modest, as befits a business-class device. In appearance, the graphics are more similar to the Lenovo K900 interface than to the K910.

    Performance

The hardware platform of this phone is built on the MediaTekMT6589 single-chip system. The central processor has four Cortex-A7 cores that operate at 1.2 GHz. In fact, this is a basic modification of the 4-core platform from Taiwanese manufacturers. The processor is assisted in processing graphics tasks by the Power VR SGX544MP video accelerator.

The RAM in the phone is 1 GB, which is considered insufficient by modern standards. As for the built-in memory, owners of the Lenovo P780 8Gb smartphone note the following: the user has 2.8 GB of free storage available for recording their own files; 4.3 GB is allocated for the needs of the OS and various applications. The phone supports the ability to increase this parameter using a microSD card; in addition, external devices can be connected via the USB port - both keyboards and mice, and flash cards, from which the device directly reads files.

According to the results of platform performance testing, the smartphone demonstrated average performance, which corresponds to all representatives of the Taiwanese-made MediaTek 4-core platform, as well as its modifications.

Smartphone P780 Lenovo: price and summary

In general, as reviews from owners show, the phone not only lives up to, but in some respects even exceeds expectations: the device is quite decent, well-built, attractive, with two SIM cards and a large (five-inch) screen, while being relatively inexpensive. As for the battery, the device showed record results for smartphones in terms of battery life, which makes this purchase justified in the eyes of the buyer and is fully consistent with the main focus of the model on the business segment. Currently, the cost of Lenovo P780 (price may change) in stores in our country is set at 12 thousand rubles, uncertified devices can be purchased for 9 thousand rubles.

It should be understood that this phone is valuable primarily not for its multimedia component, but for its ability to become a reliable assistant in organizing daily affairs. Experienced consumers emphasize that the device has average performance and modest video/photo quality; it is not suitable for gaming entertainment, although it can help while away free time. But the owner of this device certainly should not worry about whether the battery charge is enough, even if a large number of long-term connections are made during the day. For business people, this model is a unique find, and this is confirmed by the high demand for this device.

The advantages of the smartphone, judging by the reviews of people who have already tested the device in use, include a nice design, high-quality assembly, good equipment, support for OTG, memory cards, and, of course, record battery life. The disadvantages are a weak camera and sound quality, low performance.
