Types of remote controls for VR glasses

There are many types of devices for controlling the headset, of which the most convenient is the universal remote control for VR Box.
Advantages of a universal remote control:

    • Stylish design adds creativity and aesthetics to the product.
    • Signal transmission occurs at a distance of 2-10m.
    • Synchronizes interaction with various types of devices: smartphone IOS and Android operating systems, computer, set-top boxes, consoles, TV, tablet, laptop, if they have a Bluetooth 3.0 module.
    • Low power consumption allows you to save battery power for a continuous 40 hours.

A small universal remote control, a mini-gamepad, is also used. There are significantly fewer buttons on it - only 4. It has only 3 functions: player, mouse and gamepad. VR operates only in a horizontal position of the device. Charged by battery.

Classification of remote controls for VR glasses

Remote controls are divided into the following types:

    1. Remote control (RC) - a wireless device that controls electronic devices at a distance;
    2. A universal remote control is a type of remote control that synchronizes the operation of various devices.

Operating principle of the remote control for VR glasses

The instructions included with the device tell you how to use it.
First of all, you should pay attention to how to connect this device to your phone. To do this, you need to activate bluetooth and enable detection for all devices. Then hold down the power button and hold it for 5 seconds until it starts blinking. A window will appear on the phone screen asking you to connect to the device. The connection between the controller and the smartphone will be indicated by a cursor that appears on the phone’s display.
Often, glasses owners do not know how to configure the VR remote control for different modes: player, gamepad, mouse, joystick. Setup is very simple. To switch to another mode, you need to press the “dog” button, and then the button of the mode that you want to activate.

    Hi all!

So I couldn’t resist and decided to take a peek into virtual reality. Virtual glasses often appeared in reviews and caught our eye in stores. At first, it was a pity to spend money on purchasing plastic ones, and the cardboard ones looked somehow dull and not respectable.

And finally, I came across a good model at a promotional price, and even with a Bluetooth remote control. I had a few extra bucks left on WebMoney and decided to order this miracle, thinking that even if I got tired of it, I could give it to someone else (fortunately, I have plenty of friends and acquaintances with children).

An improved version of the VR BOX II helmet is equipped with a curtain on the front panel, which can be easily moved to reveal the camera. This feature is indispensable for games and applications that use “augmented reality”.
On the sides, the VR BOX II virtual reality helmet has holes for connecting headphones, a charging cable and other additional devices.
VR BOX II does not have its own screen, but does not require the same phone model, which makes these glasses absolutely universal! This model of virtual reality glasses is suitable for use with phones of any model with a display diagonal from 4.7 to 6.1 inches with a gyroscope and accelerometer (it is recommended to use a smartphone with a diagonal of at least 5 inches)!
The maximum dimensions of the phone should also not exceed 163 mm x 83 mm.
VR glasses have diopter adjustment up to -6 and interpupillary distance adjustment from 58 to 72 mm.

How 3D virtual reality glasses work:
    1. Download the application to your phone/smartphone from Google Play (Android) or App Store (Apple, iOS), the applications are free and there are more and more of them every day (search for VR)
    2. Launch the application, if necessary, connect the joystick/remote control for your smartphone via Bluetooth.
    3. Insert your smartphone into the virtual reality glasses (Helmet)
    4. Enjoying a 3D game or 3D video

    Specifications:
    1. Adjustment of lenses in two planes - Focal length (allows you to adjust diopters up to “-6″) and distance between the eyes (from 58mm to 72mm).
    2. Adjust the head mount according to the circumference of the head.
    3. The maximum size of a smartphone is from 4.7 to 6 inches of screen (the maximum length and width of phones is 83x163mm). The design of the mount allows you to easily attach phones of different sizes.
    4. High quality plastic, no odor
    6. Holes on the case to cool the smartphone and prevent lenses from fogging
    7. Holes for headphone or charger cable output

Some of the highest quality glasses on the market today.

    Differences from VR BOX 1.0:
    1. Front cover design has been changed;
    2. Velcro straps;
    3. The lenses are much better (clearer).

In general, the very idea of such glasses is interesting - to use a smartphone with sensors for virtual reality. To do this, essentially, you only need a smartphone with a good screen resolution (preferably 1080p or higher) and any VR application that is installed on it.

The glasses are delivered in a cardboard box, inside there are simple instructions, a napkin and a cloth for wiping the lenses, as well as a soft lining, as far as I understand, for the buttons of a smartphone.

In addition, the kit also included a remote control with a joystick and buttons, which can be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth and used in VR games. The remote control has a built-in battery and is charged via a USB cable.

Everything would be fine, but only the applications that are offered to be downloaded using a QR code for it to work are all entirely in Chinese.

The design of the glasses is simple - essentially it’s just a plastic case with built-in lenses and a cassette lid into which your smartphone is inserted.

Suitable smartphones with screen sizes from 3.5 to 6.0 inches.

    Lens diameter 36mm.

There are two controls on the body, one for each lens, with which you can adjust their position relative to your eyes (left/right) and image sharpness (forward/backward).

Along the perimeter of the glasses, where they touch the face, there is a soft fabric pad, pleasantly and well made (in cheap analogues, ordinary foam rubber is placed here).

The glasses are attached to three straps that can be adjusted in length (they are Velcro), three straps converge at the back of the head into a flat plate made of soft white silicone rubber.

The cassette where the smartphone is inserted is taken out from the side. The smartphone is inserted inside and secured with a spring-loaded plastic stop. Then, launch the application on your smartphone and slide the cassette inside the glasses case.

    Glasses weight 320 g + smartphone weight.

On the sides, VR-box 2.0 has holes for connecting headphones, charging cable and other additional devices.

Many applications have already been written for such glasses. By downloading any of the VR applications, you can ride a Super 8, walk through an abandoned cave, or dive to the bottom of the ocean.

I should note that some programs are not suitable for glasses (either the image is blurry and the sharpness is not adjusted and the eyes get tired, or the 3D effect is not always obtained. In some applications the picture quality is pixelated (most likely because my Doogee Y100 has a screen resolution of 720p) In a word, you need to sort through and download different videos.

I liked the VR Cinema application, which transforms any movie into glasses. It essentially splits the screen into two and starts the movie. There is a 3D effect. But firstly, the image will be cropped at the edges, and secondly, the film must be in 1080p quality so that the pixels are not visible.

I liked the effect of the glasses - you can rotate your head and, accordingly, look around in a virtual environment. And if you choose a good application, the glasses are impressive and addictive.

Also note that to fully work in virtual applications, your smartphone must have a gyroscope (mine does not), and therefore my capabilities in virtual programs were limited to turning my head left and right.

I also draw your attention to the fact that even in normal applications with good sharpening, after 10-15 minutes my eyes begin to get tired. By the way, it is recommended to take breaks to avoid spasm of the optic nerve, which can lead to myopia.

Of course, all these devices are still imperfect and this is just the beginning of the development of virtual reality. The full “wow effect” of immersion is hampered by the fact that you are looking at the virtual environment as if through a square window.

By and large, this is rather a curious toy, but one that is sometimes interesting to get stuck into, fortunately, it is not expensive, and everyone can afford to look into the 3D world.

I think that sometimes you can still “play around” and play them. Interestingly, this VR-box 2.0 is sold at local auctions with a Bluetooth controller for $30-40, which is naturally expensive. Thanks to the Chinese for the price of $6.80 - you can buy it for that price.
