Yandex.Zen is a new recommendations feed that works in the Yandex browser on personal computers and smartphones. The service takes into account which sites the user visits most often, which articles are most interesting to him, and by what criteria he selects news. Based on requests, the system compiles a list of personal recommendations for each specific person. These publications form an endless Yandex.Zen news feed.
The service takes into account both the user’s persistent interests and temporary, seasonal requests. For example, if the owner of a PC or smartphone decided to lose weight by summer and started looking for information about proper nutrition and exercise, the feed will give him more messages on these topics.
Moreover, publications will be selected even on sites that the user has never visited. There will be no duplication of information - Yandex will recognize any plagiarism and clean it from the feed.
In addition, the service provides its own platform for direct publications by publishers, brands and authors. All of them can maintain personal channels on zen.yandex.ru. Publications from such “blogs” also end up in users’ personal collections.
Zen will choose the most interesting news
The Yandex.Zen feed displays news only on topics in which the user himself is interested. But the sources of information can be varied. The service even takes into account those sites that the client has never opened on his own.
Zen selects news portals using its internal algorithms. The service checks the source for exclusivity, efficiency, reliability of information, absence of plagiarism and many other characteristics.
Consequently, the better the quality of news on a topic of interest to the user, the higher their chance of getting into the user’s personal feed.
The user can independently configure the display of news in Yandex.Zen. There are two ways to do this:
- assessment of specific publications in the feed;
- subscription to interesting channels and sources
Evaluation of publications
The first way is very simple. Under each material in the feed there are two buttons - “like” and “dislike”. Yandex calls them “More of this” and “Less of this”. If some material is of particular interest to the user, he can “like” it. After this, messages similar to the publication he liked will appear in his feed more often.
If the user finds the material uninteresting, he can rate it with a “dislike.” The publication will be hidden from the feed, and in the future the client will see fewer similar messages. In addition, after clicking the “dislike” button, the user will be asked to block the source of the news he did not like, so as not to receive other messages from this site or channel in the future.
Subscription to channels and sources
To more accurately customize the Yandex.Zen feed in the browser, the user can subscribe to interesting channels and sources of information.
A channel is a publisher, brand or blogger’s own feed, which he maintains directly on the platform zen.yandex.ru.

To understand whether a publication belongs to a channel or a source, just open it in a new tab and look at the link in the address bar of the browser. If a third-party site is indicated in it, this is a publication from the source. If the address begins with zen.yandex.ru, it means that the material is posted on the Zen channel.
To subscribe to a source or channel, the user must first log in to the service using his Yandex account. If you do not have your own account, we recommend creating one. To register an account it is enough.
If you want to subscribe to sources, you should simply mark the sites you are interested in in the selection proposed by Zen. And in the future you will see more publications from these sites in your feed.
In order to subscribe to a channel, you need to open any publication of the channel you like, click the “+” icon at the top of the page on the right, or simply click the “Subscribe to channel” button. This way you can set up Yandex.Zen on a computer, tablet, smartphone (IoS, Android, Windows Phone) and any other device.
How to enable smart feed
To enable Yandex.Zen, you need a Yandex browser for a PC, tablet, smartphone or any other device. You do not need to download any other extensions or applications. When the user opens the start tab, the browser will automatically prompt him to include a personal feed of news, videos and articles, selected individually for him.
If the user agrees to turn on Zen, a tab with sources will open, consisting of several sections: “News”, “Entertainment”, “Video”, etc. For the first personalization, the client must select at least three such offers. In the future, the list can be supplemented and edited.
Now Yandex.Zen is always on the computer - it will open on the start page every time you launch the Yandex browser.
What to do if the service is not in the browser
If Yandex.Zen does not appear on the browser start page, go to the program menu (three bars at the top right - the “Settings” button).
If there is no such column, it means that your Yandex.Browser has not been updated for a long time and is out of date. Install the latest version of the program and the smart feed will appear.
How to set up the feed on your phone
To set up Yandex.Zen on a smartphone, you need to follow the same steps as on a computer: install the latest version of the Yandex browser and allow the smart feed to be displayed on the start page or in the settings.
In addition, Android tablets and phones allow you to configure Yandex.Zen using the Yandex.Launcher application. It can be downloaded for free from PlayMarket.
When you first enter the program, you will need to log in using the same login with which you registered in the browser. If you've already personalized your feed, it will open in the Launcher app automatically. If not, the program will offer to personalize it, also selecting at least five of the most interesting sources.

What to do if Zen doesn't work
If the user has never used Yandex.Browser before, on his first visit to Zen it may seem that the service does not work - it does not take into account personal interests, but only displays the most popular materials from different categories.
This happens because there is no client information in the browser history yet. As search queries accumulate, the feed will be personalized. This will also happen if the user actively explores Yandex.Zen: like and dislike, add channels and sources to favorites.
If the feed stops working in the future, you need to update your browser or application.
To go to the Yandex browser update page, you need to follow the following chain: Browser menu - Advanced - About the browser.
On the update page, you will see the browser version number and an “Update” button. Complete this action.
Pay attention! If the Update button is missing and you only see the version number. No update required.
Usually the update procedure is enough to solve the problem. If after this the feed is not displayed, you need to check whether the “Zen” line in the settings is checked. If this does not help, you should contact Yandex support service.
How to disable Yandex Zen in the browser
If you don’t like Yandex.Zen, are not interested in a personalized feed, or you just want to save traffic, you can easily disable the service and then, if desired, return it again.
To disable Yandex.Zen in your browser, iPhone or iPad, Android phone or tablet, use these simple instructions:
- enter the browser settings menu;
- find the “Advanced settings” or “Advanced” tab;
- uncheck the “Display Zen” line or move the corresponding slider to the “Off” position.

It is worth noting that Zen is not an intrusive service. News is located under the main tabs. If you have a lot of them, then the tape is not even visible. Therefore, it is worth leaving this resource to view current news.

Note: if the browser has just recently been installed, the feed will not be displayed in it, even if all the settings are correct. After all, in order to show recommendations, the program must know something about your preferences, and the database for this has not yet been assembled.
How to enable Yandex.Zen
If you have been using the browser for a long time (more than a week), and the recommendations feed is not visible in the new tab, it may simply be turned off. To enable it, click the menu button (in the upper right corner) and select “Settings”.
Find “Appearance Settings” and check the box next to “Show Zen personal recommendations feed in a new tab.”
If there is no such item, the new browser interface may be turned off and then you need to turn it on first.
After that, restart the program - close it and open it again.
Refresh browser
If you do not find such settings, most likely your browser is outdated and needs to be updated.
1. Press the menu button, then go down, select “Advanced” and “About the browser”.
It may be called differently, for example, “About Yandex”, “Yandex.Browser”, but it will still be approximately in second to last place.
2. Click the “Update” button.
3. After the update, click “Restart”.
The program will close and reopen. The recommendations feed should now work.
If it doesn't work out
It happens that the browser does not contain the Zen feed, but it is impossible to update it. This means that most likely one of its important modules is damaged or it was not installed from an official source. To solve this problem, we reinstall the browser manually.
1. Go to the official website and click the "Download" button.
The program may display a message like this:

2. When the Y icon appears in the upper right corner, close the Yandex browser.
3. Go to Start and select Control Panel.
4. Open Programs and Features.
If the “Control Panel” window looks like this, then select “Uninstall a program” in the “Programs” category.
5. Find our Yandex in the list, right-click on it and select “Delete”.
And wait for a message that the browser has been deleted. It is advisable to restart your computer after this.
6. Now you need to reinstall the program. To do this, open the “Downloads” folder and run the Yandex.
You can access “Downloads” from any folder on your computer through the list on the left side of the window.
7. Wait for the installation to complete. When the process is complete, you should have the Zen Ribbon running by default.
How to set up Yandex.Zen

If you really liked the news and you want there to be more such materials in your feed, give it a like.
But if it’s the other way around, it’s a dislike. Then Yandex will inform you that this particular material will be hidden from the feed. You can also disable all news from this site by clicking on “Block source”.
