    This article describes in detail the procedure for setting up the Microsoft Outlook 2010 email client. The settings that need to be specified for the new account:

    • outgoing mail server, incoming mail server: mail.YOUR_DOMAIN ;
    • username - full name of the mailbox: NAME@YOUR_DOMAIN ;
    • password - was set when creating the mailbox;
    • The outgoing mail server requires authentication, the data is the same as for the outgoing mail server.

    Let's look at the setup procedure in more detail.

    • In the ribbon you need to select the tab “ File", click on the button " Setting up accounts" and select the item of the same name in the drop-down list:

    • In the “Add a new account” window, select “ Manually configure server settings or additional server types»:
    • In the next window you must fill in all fields. In the field " Enter name"You must enter a name that will be substituted in the templates of outgoing letters. In the field " Email address" You must enter a custom email address, under this name the custom mailbox will appear in the list of mailboxes in Outlook. Next, you need to decide whether you will store correspondence on the mail server (“ Account type» - IMAP) or on the local computer (POP3). Be careful, once you create an account, it will not be possible to change its type.
    • Next, you need to configure the incoming and outgoing mail servers and login credentials. If your domain is parked at our hosting, you can enter in the fields “ Incoming mail server" And " Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" meaning mail.YOUR_DOMAIN (in the example - mail.example.listkom.ru), otherwise you need to enter the name of the server on which your domain is located (for example, msk147.site). To find out which server your account is located on, look at the address at which you log into your hosting control panel (it looks like https://msk147..site).
      The full name of the mailbox is used as a login (field “ User"), password (field " Password") you specified when creating a mailbox in the hosting control panel.
      After all fields have been filled in, you must click on the “ Additional settings»:
    • In the window that opens, select the tab “ Outgoing mail server", enable the option " SMTP server requires authentication" and select the item " Similar to the server for incoming mail", then click on the "OK" button:
    • ATTENTION! If when sending mail (for example, when testing the account being created or in the future) you receive an error message like

      this means that your IP address has been listed by an independent anti-spam organization (spamhouse.org). In this case, on the " Additionally» change the SMTP server port from 25 to 587. This will not affect the security of your mailbox in any way, but will allow you to bypass some additional checks when sending mail:

    Now add a signature to your messages.     In this article, I want to tell you how to use a program in which you can collect all your mailboxes from different services in one place. There are actually a lot of such programs: Outlook, The Bat,Thunderbird etc... The convenience of using such applications is the ability to have access to several mailboxes, and without having to enter a login and password for each of them.

    Now, I will show you how to create and configure an E-mail on an email client. As an example I will use the application Outlook, which comes with Microsoft Office.

    How to set up Outlook

    So, open our email client - Outlook, using the icon on the desktop or in the Start menu. I have it in the Microsoft Office section. A welcome window will appear, where we click “Next”, then Outlook will ask you whether you really want to set up a connection to your email account, or perhaps you just accidentally entered this application. But we are not random guests here, so we mark “Yes” and move on.

    In the automatic account setup window, mail can connect and configure itself. But only in cases where you have your own mail server. As a rule, this is practiced in various organizations that have their own network, domain and configured exchange.

    Well, you and I will configure everything manually; to do this, mark manual settings at the bottom of the window and move on.

    Select “POP or IMAP Protocol” and click “Next”

    Now we come to the most important window in this setup. Let's start entering account parameters:

    1. Enter the username;
    2. The email address we want to connect;
    3. We set the account type to IMAP, then all our mail will be stored on the server (In POP3, letters are stored locally on the computer);
    4. Incoming mail server, usually the first word is mail.domain.com ( mail.itgroup.com – if this is work email or from hosting; in online servers the server name looks like imap.gmail.com or imap.mail.ru)
    5. Outgoing mail server is the same as in incoming ( in online resources it is different: smtp.gmail.com and smtp.mail.ru)
    6. Enter the username again, only now with the full domain. I have this.
    7. The last point is our email password.

    If you have entered everything, do not rush to click on the “Next” button. Go to “Other Settings” and in the “Outgoing Mail Server” tab, check the “SMTP server requires authentication” checkbox. This is necessary so that we can send mail from our mailbox.

    Having seen such a window in front of you, you have successfully configured and connected your mailbox to Outlook.

    To check, Outlook sent us a test message, if you received one too, then everything is working.

    Setting up a Gmail mailbox (Mail.ru, etc.) in Outlook

    I would also like to show a clear example of how the settings window should look when connecting mail from an online service. As an example, I took a Gmail inbox. To configure, we repeat all the steps until the window where we begin to enter account parameters.

    This is what the settings window should look like when connecting to Google. Basically, the main change is in the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

    When connecting other mailboxes from an online resource, we only change the server domain. For example: Mail.ru: Incoming mail server: imap.mail.ru, A outgoing: smtp.mail.ru.

    As you can see, there is nothing complicated in setting up Outlook, the main thing is not to get confused in the addresses of the outgoing and incoming server.     10. To better protect the data you send and receive using your email program, you must enable encryption. To do this, go to the “Advanced” tab and select “SSL” in the drop-down lists opposite “IMAP server” and “SMTP server”.

    Check that the IMAP server port is 993 and the SMTP server port is 465.

    13. To make the list of folders in the mail program similar to the list of folders in your mailbox, right-click on the name of the newly created account and select “Update folder list”.

    14. Now you need to specify the folder in which all letters sent from the mail program will be saved. To do this, go to “Tools” - “Account Settings...”, as in step 1, select the newly created account and click “Change”. In the window that appears, click “Other Settings” and go to the “Folders” tab.     Configure by protocol POP3

    To configure the Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 email program via POP3 protocol:

    1. In the top panel, in the “Tools” menu, select “Account Settings...”;

    2. In the window that appears, click “Create...”;

    3. Check the box next to “Exchange Server, POP3, IMAP or HTML” and click “Next”;

    4. In the window that appears, check the box next to “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” and click “Next”;

    5. Check the box next to “Internet email” and click “Next”;

    6. In the “User Information” section, provide the following information:

      • Enter a name - the name that will appear in the "From:" field for all messages sent;
      • Email address - the name of your mailbox.

    In the "Server Information" section, provide the following information:

      • Account type - POP3;
      • Incoming mail server - pop.mail.ru;
      • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.ru.

    In the “Login” section, provide the following information:

      • User - the full name of your mailbox in the format [email protected] ;
      • Password—the current password for your mailbox.

    7. Check the box next to “Remember password” if you want the mail program to remember the password for your mailbox and not ask for it every time you try to download mail.

    8. Click the “Other settings...” button;

    9. Go to the “Outgoing Mail Server” tab and check the box next to “SMTP server requires authentication”. Check the “Same as incoming mail server” checkbox.

    10. To better protect the data you send and receive using your email program, you can enable encryption. To do this, go to the “Advanced” tab and check the box next to “Require an encrypted connection (SSL)”, and select “SSL” in the “Use the following encrypted connection type” drop-down list.

    Change SSL settings

    Microsoft Outlook is a very convenient and functional email program. One of its characteristics is that in this application you can operate several mailboxes on various mail services at once.     There are two ways to add a mailbox: using automatic settings, and by manually entering server parameters. The first method is much easier, but, unfortunately, not all email services support it. Let's find out how to add a mailbox using automatic configuration.

    Go to the Microsoft Outlook main horizontal menu item “File”.

    In the window that opens, click on the “Add account” button.

    The add account window opens. In the top field, enter your name or nickname. Just below you enter the full email address that the user is going to add. In the next two fields, enter the password for the account on the added mail service. After completing all data entry, click on the “Next” button.

    After this, the procedure for connecting to the mail server starts. If the server allows automatic configuration, then after this process is completed, a new mailbox will be added to Microsoft Outlook.

    Manually adding a mailbox

    If the mail server does not support automatic mailbox configuration, you will have to add it manually. In the window for adding an account, set the switch to the “Manually configure server settings” position. Then, click on the “Next” button.

    In the next window, leave the switch on the “Internet Email” position and click on the “Next” button.

    A window opens for email settings that must be entered manually. In the “User Information” group of parameters, enter your name or nickname and the address of the mailbox that you are going to add to the program in the appropriate fields.

    In the “Service Information” settings block, you enter parameters that are provided by your email service provider. You can find them out by looking at the instructions for a specific email service, or by contacting its technical support. In the “Account Type” column, select the POP3 or IMAP protocol. Most modern email services support both of these protocols, but there are exceptions, so this information needs to be clarified. In addition, server addresses for different account types and other settings may vary. In the following columns we indicate the incoming and outgoing mail server addresses that the service provider must provide.

    In the “System Login” settings block, enter the login and password for your mailbox in the appropriate fields.

    In addition, in some cases it is necessary to enter additional settings. To go to them, click on the “Other settings” button.

    A window opens in front of us with additional settings, which are located in four tabs:

    • General;
    • Outgoing mail server;
    • Connection;
    • Additionally.

    These settings are subject to those adjustments that are additionally specified by the postal service provider.

    It is especially common to manually configure the port numbers of the POP server and SMTP server in the “Advanced” tab.

    After all the settings have been made, click the “Next” button.

    Communication with the mail server is in progress. In some cases, you need to allow Microsoft Outlook to connect to your mail account by going to it through the browser interface. If the user has done everything correctly, according to these recommendations and the instructions of the postal service administration, a window will appear indicating that a new mailbox has been created. All that remains is to click on the “Done” button.
