• Yandex search queries. Word selection service

Or before launching it is necessary to create a semantic core. It sounds scary, but in reality these are simply queries that users will use to search for your services or products in search engines. If you choose the right key queries, your site will quickly rise in Yandex and Google rankings and bring you clients. To understand which direction to move in, think about how you yourself would search for your products, using what phrases. You can write down 3-5 main topics and build on them. But, in order not to rack our brains and invent a wheel, we created an assistant - Yandex Wordstat.

Wordstat shows statistics of user requests. The service displays all phrases with the entered key and the number of users who searched for this key query. In this article I will talk in detail about the service and what nuances should be taken into account when working with it.

Yandex Wordstat comes to the rescue

To view the statistics of the query you are interested in, you need to enter it into the search bar, click “Select” and the service will display the result. Below is a schematic representation of the main blocks of service functionality.

    1. Search phrase.
    2. Latest update.
    3. Total number of impressions per month.
    4. The number of impressions for a specific phrase.
    5. Similar queries.

    You can search phrases by:

    • words;
    • regions;
    • request history (by month, week, etc.).

The service shows the result not only for the entered query, but also similar phrases that users searched for.

    Basic operators

To understand how it works, let’s enter the query “Italian pizza”:

The service gave us the result that this request was entered 16,654 times per month. But is this really so? No. It should be kept in mind that users could search for the query in different variations, for example, “buy Italian pizza” or “cook Italian pizza.” Some requests are clearly not worth considering. And to see a more truthful picture, the service has basic operators.

    1. Quotes:"Word". This operator allows you to see the exact number of impressions of a given request, but for all possible endings and word order.

Now, instead of the number 16,654, we see 1,152 impressions per month. This is a more plausible figure.

    2. Exclamation mark:!. Allows you to view the number of impressions on request, taking into account the end.

We changed the ending of the query, and we see that only 225 times users searched for this phrase and with this ending.

    Auxiliary Operators

The service has additional operators that open up more opportunities when analyzing and selecting requests.

    1. OR operator. Helps to combine queries and compare several phrases.
    Designated(|).

In the figure on the right, we see how many requests for each phrase were made per month.

    2. “Square brackets” operator. Fixes the order of words, taking into account all word forms and stop words. Denoted by .

    3. Operator "Plus". Searches for the query itself plus an additional word. Denoted by the + symbol.

    4. Operator "Minus". Gives the result without the word that comes with the - sign. Indicated by the symbol -.

Using this operator, we removed all queries containing the word dodo (dodo is a brand of pizza).

    5. Operator "Grouping". Used when you need to group multiple statements. Denoted by ().

    Additional features

At the beginning of the article, I mentioned that Wordstat has the ability to search and analyze queries by words, by region, and by history. Let's start with the request history.

    Request history

The New Year is coming soon and you are already wondering when to start notifying your subscribers about New Year's promotions and sales. To track when people start to become interested in this topic, let’s go to the “Request History” tab and look at seasonal fluctuations in the request “New Year”.

If you look at the graph, you can see that the peak occurs in December (month 12). But they begin to become interested at the end of October.

Number of requests in a given region

In this tab you can see the number of impressions of a request in a region or city. You can also estimate popularity as a percentage. The higher the percentage, the higher the interest.

In the “Map” mode you can see the number of queries and their popularity by country on the world map.

Collection (parsing) of requests of a given length

Sometimes it becomes necessary to search for queries of a given length (of 2, 3, 4 words, and so on) with the occurrence of a keyword.

For example, we want to find a phrase with the keyword “pizza” and a length of 4 words:

Queries from 2 to 7 words in length can significantly increase your audience reach.

The article discussed the main functionality of the WordStat service. Now all you have to do is correctly apply the acquired knowledge in practice. Be sure to use this tool in your work if it is important to you to have high quality, launch effective and efficient.

Free search statistics and word selection service from Yandex. The service was primarily created for evaluation by Yandex Direct advertisers. But later, it became a tool for SEO optimizers.

    How it will help:

    • Selection of effective keywords for a contextual advertising campaign or for search engine promotion of a website (semantic core).
    • Traffic forecast, estimation of the frequency of impressions of key phrases and the niche as a whole.
    • Assistance in developing the site structure.
    • Identifying trends by phrases.

How to work with the service?

To work with Wordstat you need registration in the service by email or via social networks. If you already have an account in other Yandex services, then you can use it to work with word selection.

Login (upper right corner) > Register

    By Words Tool

When you log in, you will see the By Words tool by default.

    1. Query input field- in this line we enter the word or phrase for which we want to see data.
    2. Service tools- display of words by region and history (trend) of the request.
    3. All regions- select the region for which statistics will be displayed.
    4. Platform- select the platform for which statistics will be displayed.
    5. Latest update- date of the last update of data in the service.
    6. Left column of Wordstat- a list of queries is shown, which contains the word or phrase entered in paragraph (1).
    7. Right column of Wordstat- shows a list of phrases that people who entered our word or phrase could still be looking for.

Let's take a closer look at how the left and right columns of Yandex Wordstat work.

    Left column

The left column displays all phrases that contain our entered query.

For example, we enter the query Yandex Wordstat. All phrases that contain our query will appear to us, and the order of the words will not matter.

This must be remembered! The number opposite the request is the number of impressions of this phrase per month, and not the number of clicks on this phrase! For example, if we go to the search engine https://www.yandex.ru/, we type the phrase Yandex Wordstat and click find - this will be 1 impression for this phrase.

The number displays all requests included in it.

For example: In the number of impressions 60,897 on request wordstat yandex includes all queries below that contain the phrase Yandex Wordstat or wordstat yandex word order doesn't matter.

And the number of impressions was 2295 for the phrase Yandex Wordstat key includes the number of impressions for the phrase Yandex Wordstat keywords.

If we click on the phrase Yandex Wordstat key, then we will make sure of this. We will be shown all the phrases that are included in this request.

This is the basic principle and logic of the “By Words” tool and the left column of Wordstat. For a more expanded display of statistics, there are word selection operators.

    Basic operators Yandex WordStat

    There are two basic operators:

    1. Exclamation mark.
    2. Quotes.

They can also be used together with each other. Let's look at the essence of using each operator using the example of a simple request.

    Exclamation mark

By writing it before the word! you fix the ending of words preceded by a sign ! .

That is, by writing !buy!phone, the displayed impressions will no longer include inflections of words, for example: telephones, bought and other changed endings and inflections of words preceded by!. But these shows include all the phrases that I have the exact spelling buy a phone, for example, these impressions include the following queries: how to buy a cell phone, where to buy a phone, etc.

The exclamation point only records the exact spelling of the words in front of which it appears.

Using the basic “Exclamation Mark” operator, the user can view the results for a specific query without any inflections of one or more words contained in the phrase.

    Quotes

By entering a phrase "buy a phone" in quotes, you will see the number of impressions of only this request without any other additional words, that is, this request may include phrases: buy phones, buy phones, bought a phone, etc. This no longer includes other additional words, for example: how to buy a phone, where to buy a cell phone, etc.

Using the Quote + Exclamation Mark Operators Together

Having written " !buy!phone", you will record both the query itself and the endings of the words. Thus, you will find out the exact frequency for a specific request without additional words, allowing you to predict the number of transitions for this request. But remember, the number of impressions is not the number of transitions, so this is only approximate data, you also need to understand that the number of clicks decreases depending on the site’s position in the search engine results for a given request.

    Additional Operators

There are 5 more main auxiliary operators that open up even more opportunities in Yandex Wordstat:

    1. Operator "Plus". To use it, specify the symbol + . It helps to find search queries that contain stop words such as conjunctions, prepositions, etc.
    2. Square Brackets Operator. Symbols are used with a key phrase written between them. With its help, the arrangement of words in a phrase is recorded, that is, they remain in the order in which you wrote them. The operator is relevant when you need to analyze the popularity of similar phrases for various queries.
    3. "Or" operator. Used with symbol | and is important for the prompt selection of semantics for a web page, as well as in the process of comparison or “shift” in the statistics of certain phrases.
    4. Operator "Minus". To use it, write the symbol - . It removes, if necessary, queries containing words that are unnecessary for studying statistics.
    5. Operator "Grouping". Characters are indicated () , inside which the above operators are written in order to use them together.

    Examples of using operators

We present below examples of the use of all the above operators, both basic and additional.

    "Plus"

We are shown all the words where the word is contained Job and pretext on. The operator +, as it were, fixed the preposition on.

    "Minus"

We are shown all queries containing the word windows but there is no word price.

    "Square brackets"

We recorded the exact spelling of words with an exclamation mark, with quotation marks we recorded only the words written between them, and with square brackets we recorded the order of words.

    "Grouping" and complex query

Another convenient function provided by the WordStat service. It allows you to set the length of queries (2, 5 words, and so on) with the inclusion of keywords and parse them. This feature is especially useful in cases where a webmaster is working on a site dedicated to a very popular topic and, having collected the maximum number of pages, cannot get all the search phrases related to this niche.

Just a note. Statistics Yandex Wordstat, when analyzing one request, produces a maximum of 41 pages, but it often happens that there are many more phrases for a request, and not all of them can be seen.

To collect all phrases whose length contains 3 words, the following construction is used: "Samsung Samsung Samsung"

By asking such a query, you will not collect the maximum number of pages of search phrases of different lengths, but 41 pages of only 3-word phrases containing the keyword “Samsung”. If you analyze queries step by step, the length of which is from 2 to 7 words, then you will be able to collect absolutely all the statistics for the word Samsung.

    Right column of Wordstat

Shows what else people were looking for when entering this query. shoes.

    Request history

The “Request History” tab was created to study the dynamics of requests over the past 2 years, as well as determine their popularity depending on the season. For example, find out how consumer interest in the Samsung Galaxy S9 model is changing. There are chart settings for weeks or months, and there is also the ability to filter the device view, for example, displaying only on smartphones.

Absolute value– this is our actual value of impressions in certain periods of time.

Relative value– this is the ratio of the absolute value (impressions) to the total number of all impressions. This indicator shows the popularity of a given query among all other queries.

It is impossible not to mention such a function as obtaining the request frequency in a specific region. The ability to separate the total search frequency by region allows you to analyze how often a certain phrase is entered by users in a particular region, and how popular it is there.

So, a query containing the words "buy" And "Sochi" most often entered by residents of the city of Sochi, and this is logical. However, delving deeper into the capabilities of this function, you can discover much more unexpected results.

    Conclusion

The free Yandex WordStat service is the most important tool for SEO specialists and Yandex Direct advertisers. It allows you to study in detail the statistics of search engine queries and analyze the selection of words in order to attract more target audience to the promoted site. Today we have studied all the most important functions of the service, the successful use of which will help you make your resource more visible and bring it to the leading positions in search engine results.

Purpose: Yandex Wordstat is one of the key tools for determining current demand in a specific topic, and accordingly forming an up-to-date semantic core. It is actively used by SEO optimizers, copywriters and webmasters.

Searching for keywords using Yandex Wordstat is today one of the fastest and most convenient ways to select keywords for the semantic core. From experience, choosing keywords in this Yandex online service means collecting from 30 to 40% of the entire semantic core. Additionally, you can search for keywords in Yandex by selecting search suggestions, but this is a topic for another article. The service is absolutely free.

In addition to selection, you can perform a convenient analysis of search queries in Yandex Wordstat, how many queries are targeted and in demand - the service has a lot of functionality for this. Keyword analysis in Yandex Wordstat comes down to:

    • Analysis of word frequency (query popularity) for 3 match options: broad, phrase, exact.
    • Popularity of queries in different regions
    • Determining the seasonality of a search phrase using the Query History tool.

Case 1. To automate work with the service, there are a number of tools: KeyCollector(paid), SlovoYOB(free version of KeyCollector), keyword parser "Magadan"(paid and free edition), extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome for Yandex Wordstat Helper, AllSubmitter(module “keyword selection”), YWSCheck.

Below we will take a closer look at keyword statistics from Yandex Wordstat ( wordstat.yandex.ru), as the main tool for selecting statistics of Yandex queries and the words themselves. However, you can select the necessary popular queries using another service from Yandex - Direct ( direct.yandex.ru). It was created for advertising campaigns and allows you to fine-tune the display of advertising blocks that will be displayed for certain search phrases.

Although both services use the same information base and have some similar functions, their purposes are completely different.

    Case 2.
    - Information in the service is updated once a month.
    - The maximum number of pages with results is 40.
    - The minimum frequency is 1.

    1. View query statistics using Yandex Wordstat

In order to take advantage tool for selecting popular keywords and see statistics of Yandex search queries, you must be a registered user and pass authorization. If there are no problems with this, then by going to the page https://wordstat.yandex.ru/ you can immediately start working.

Enter the query you are interested in in the search bar. For example, if you are planning to create an informational website about landscaping, enter "landscape design."

After a couple of seconds, in the left column you will see statistics for the entered key phrase. The first line will display the phrase and the number of impressions per month.

Attention! Frequency in Yandex Wordstat and Direct is not how many times a given query was entered in the Yandex search bar, but how many times a Yandex Direct ad appeared for a given search query - this should be remembered!

All phrases below are diluted word forms of the entered key. You should not add up the number of impressions for them, since they are all included in the total number indicated in the first line. By clicking on one of them, for example, on “landscape design of a site,” you can find out statistics specifically for this area, with all sorts of additional words.

Case 3. To bypass the Yandex limitation on the number of query options, you can search for them in various forms, for example: cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, etc. As a result, you will receive more search query options than if you only asked: cleaning

The right line will display similar queries and Yandex query statistics for them. This is very useful when compiling and expanding the semantic core if, for example, the main search phrase does not have a wide scope.

Case 4. Remember that frequency indicators are very often inflated and do not always correspond to real demand. Reasons:
    - website owners and SEO companies monitor the visibility of their sites daily
    - work of various services for checking positions, boosting behavioral factors, grouping search queries

    2. Region setting

If you are creating a website focused on a specific region (for example, the website of a water delivery company in Moscow, or any city portal), then the statistics of search phrases must be configured by region. By default, Yandex Wordstat is tied to your location. However, in any case, you must specify the correct region for processing statistics. This can be done by clicking on the corresponding button under the search bar. Here, you can set the checkbox to “by region” and see the frequency of use of the words you are interested in on the world map.

Case 5. For large regions: Moscow, Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, you can set the Russia region, and after collecting, delete all regions except the one you need (on the Internet you can find a lot of lists of regions of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine). This way you can get a wider list of key phrases.

In the report “by region” you can understand in which regions this request is more popular. And when you click on the button " map» you can visually see on the world map the frequency of use of the phrase.

Case 6. When hovering over a country, the percentage can be more than 100. “Regional popularity” is the share that a region occupies in impressions for a given word, divided by the share of all impressions of search results that fell on this region. The popularity of a word/phrase equal to 100% means that this word is not distinguished by anything in this region. If the popularity is more than 100%, this means that there is increased interest in this word in this region, if less than 100% - reduced interest.

This data can be used to create contextual advertising and decide whether to create separate advertising campaigns for certain regions.

    3. Seasonality

The Query History tool allows you to:

    • See detailed statistics by month, week.
    • Assess the seasonality of a particular topic.
    • Determine whether the phrase is a “dummy” phrase (the number of impressions is increased by webmasters in a short period).

By entering a search phrase and clicking on “Query History”, you can see impression statistics for the year. For example, having entered our query “landscape design” into the Yandex Wordstat search, we will see that this topic is at the peak of popularity only in the spring and summer months. And by the new year, the frequency barely exceeds 100,000 impressions per month.

Case 7. Seasonality allows you to find “inflated”/dummy queries, for example, if for a whole year the frequency of a phrase is 0, and in the last 1-2 months the frequency has become 3000. An exception to the rule may be obvious seasonal queries, for example: buy a large artificial Christmas tree, buy New Year's toys, naturally, in the summer the frequency of such requests will be zero. An exception may be important news and events, for example: the victory of an unknown athlete at the Olympics.
When analyzing jumps in a graph, it is advisable to analyze several requests from a group in order to understand the general trends in the growth and fall of the graph.

Yandex Wordstat will be useful for novice webmasters who are creating their first website. With its help, they can select key phrases with stable popularity. This will allow them not to depend on the time of year and have a more stable income.

Case 8. Wordstat operators don't work here! Please note that this report does not support any query language operators. Seasonality of the request Yandex does not provide information using the operators “quote marks”, “exclamation mark” and all others. In this report, Yandex provides information on the broadest match type.

    4. Operators in Yandex Wordstat for selecting keywords

The search form in Wordstat supports 5 operators, using which you can: “Refine queries”, “Exclude unnecessary words”, “Combine data for several queries”:

    • Operator "-". If you put it in front of a certain word, then all queries that contain this word will disappear from the selection. Example: Buy a bmx bike - used - Moscow
    • Operator "(|)". It is used to add synonyms to the selection. For example, the construction “Air tickets to (Istanbul|Antalya)” is equivalent to two queries: “Air tickets to Istanbul” and “Air tickets to Antalya”.
    • Operator "!" - exact match. This is necessary so that the words you enter are taken into account by the service in the exact form, without changing endings or declensions.
    • The quote operator "" is a phrase match. By putting the desired phrase in quotation marks, you can remove from the selection all diluted queries containing additional words and leave only its exact form and word forms.
    • Operator "+". Conjunctions and prepositions will only be taken into account if they are preceded by this operator. Otherwise, they will be ignored by Yandex.

Example. Difference in frequency of different matches for “all regions”:

    • Broad match - apartment cleaning - 15,912 impressions per month
    • Phrase match - “apartment cleaning” - 1,963 impressions per month
    • Exact match - “!cleaning!apartments” - 1,057 impressions per month

Case 9. When selecting search queries for a site, it is necessary to additionally check the frequency by exact match, since the phrases “nulls” are very common, but by broad match they can have very impressive values.

    5. Consider the order of words in the query

If there are 2 queries in the kernel that contain the same words, only in a different order, then now everyone can find out which of the two options users ask more often, for example:

It was before the appearance of the operator: “!buy!a Christmas tree” - “469 impressions per month” or “buy a Christmas tree” - “469 impressions per month”

It became when using the operator: “buy a Christmas tree” - “442 impressions per month” or “buy a Christmas tree” - “27 impressions per month”

Conclusion: the query “buy a Christmas tree” is more frequently asked than “buy a Christmas tree.”
The “true” frequency is 442 impressions per month for the most popular option - “buy a Christmas tree”.
*check was performed on September 26, 2016.
    * previously, to determine the correct spelling, you had to resort to the services of the Keyword Planner tool - adwords.google.com

Operator ""(square brackets). Allows you to record the order of words in a search query. In this case, all word forms and stop words are taken into account.
For example, for the phrase “tickets [from Moscow to Paris]” the ad will be shown for the queries “airplane tickets from Moscow to Paris”, “tickets from Moscow to Paris”, but will not appear for the queries “tickets from Paris to Moscow”, “ tickets Moscow to Paris" or "how to fly from Moscow to Paris."

Often the task arises of collecting all queries of 2, 3 or 4 words with the inclusion of the main marker queries. Here are two examples of how to do this:

Example 1: if you need to collect all 3-word queries in a topic with the words cleaning, you need to create the following line - “cleaning cleaning cleaning”.

    A more compact alternative line:

(cleaning ~3) - parses all 3-word queries with the word cleaning
(cleaning ~4) - parses all 4-word queries with the word cleaning

Example 2: If the main query is two-word and you need to parse all 4-word queries with it, then you need to generate the following line - “cleaning cleaning cleaning apartments”.

    A more compact alternative line:(cleaning ~4) apartments

    7. Features of Yandex Wordstat

The disadvantage of direct parsing Yandex Wordstat is the technical limitations that the service itself imposes:

    • When checking frequencies, it is necessary to create separate queries for each phrase being checked. Due to this, the time for collecting information increases.
    • If there are a large number of requests, additional proxy servers may be needed, because the service may impose sanctions in the form of an eternal captcha or a ban (you can also try changing the IP address by resetting the Internet connection if the IP address is issued dynamically by the provider).

    8. Browser plugins for ease of working with Yandex Wordstat

    • Yandex Wordstat Helper - An extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome that allows you to significantly speed up the collection of words using the wordstat.yandex.ru service.
    • Yandex Wordstat Assistant - An extension for Google Chrome, Yandex Browser and Opera browsers, which allows you to significantly speed up the manual collection of words using the Yandex word selection service (wordstat).

    9. Selection of search phrases using Yandex Direct

Yandex Direct is a contextual advertising service, and the lion's share of its users are sellers of goods and services and advertisers. Despite the fact that it is “tailored” to conducting advertising campaigns, this service also allows you to see Yandex statistics on popular keywords or products that users want to buy. But, since this is an exclusively commercial tool, here you can also calculate your profit from promotion for specific requests.

Selection of keywords for Yandex Direct can be done using the following instructions:

    • Go to the page https://direct.yandex.ru/.
    • Click on the button " Place an advertisement" and click "start using the service".
    • Fill in the information on the advertising campaign and proceed to the next stage of its setup (the “next” button at the bottom of the page).
    • Proceed to fill out the “new keywords” field.

By clicking on the “Select words” button and entering a search phrase, you will see the same statistics as in the word selection service. Here you can add specific Yandex Direct key phrases so that your ad is shown using them. Tips are also available to fine-tune your advertising campaign.

Case 10. Very fast collection of search queries is implemented in the KeyCollector program; in a few minutes, if you have a sufficient number of accounts, you can collect thousands of phrases.

    10. Additional service for budget forecasting in Direct

As we have seen, the Wordstat and Yandex services were created to solve completely different problems. If Wordstat is used by webmasters and SEOs who are trying to make money on advertising, then Direct is also used by advertisers to build their campaigns.

However, the Yandex Direct functionality includes a very popular tool for both webmasters and advertisers - “ budget forecast". The former can realistically assess the potential profit from the site if it is included in the Yandex Advertising Network, while the latter can estimate their advertising costs.

Case 11. In its interface, in the “Hints” window, only frequency queries “not dummies” are displayed, with the help of which you can collect all the significant initial phrases in the topic, which can be further expanded.

By adding a group of keywords, you can see not only their frequency (“Impression Forecast”), but also the cost of clicking on an ad, as well as the CTR (click-through rate).

    11. Features of Yandex Direct

    • You can use both batch collection of phrases from the left and right columns, and clarification of all types of frequencies for phrases available in the table. This mode reduces calls to the service and significantly increases the collection speed.
    • When picking up phrases from the left or right column via Yandex Direct, the service may return fewer phrases than it produces primarily from Yandex.Wordstat
    • When collecting frequencies in KeyCollector through the Yandex.Direct interface, a huge speed of data collection is achieved (up to 1000 phrases per minute for 1 stream).

A huge role in the search engine promotion of a website is given to literacy in compiling a semantic core and distributing search queries across resource pages.

It is on this that the fate of the project will largely depend, for this reason it is important to pay special attention to the selection of key queries for which in the future it is planned in Google and Yandex, I have devoted more than one article to this topic, but I think that for beginners it is necessary to chew in even more detail , for example, here is one of my articles - where I talked about the selection of keywords and assessing their competitiveness in the system from Google - adwords.google.com and today on the blog, we will look at all this in more detail.

But with all this, be careful not to overdo it with the saturation of keywords on your Internet project, read -.

    1.1.Search query frequency

The popularity of a keyword can be determined by its frequency. The higher the frequency, the more profitable the search query is, since it can bring more visitors to the resource.

Frequency can be determined by special search query statistics services. Such services contain information about how often users enter a particular key (key query) in search engines.

In the picture presented above, you can see the statistics of the key expression “site promotion”. In such cases, the wordstat.yandex.ru service can be used, displaying how often users typed a given query in the Yandex search engine.

Here is a detailed video on working in wordstat.yandex:

Since approximately 55% of Internet users use this service, the exact key statistics can be determined by adding the missing 40% to the resulting figure.

In addition, based on frequency, key queries are usually divided into three large groups:

    • high frequency;
    • mid-frequency;
    • low frequency.

There are no strict numbers and frameworks in such matters; everything is only approximate. But, as a rule, low-frequency requests are considered to be requests with an indicator of less than 1000 requests/month, medium-frequency - 1,000-5,000, while high-frequency - more than 5,000.

Sometimes you have to come across such a term as ultra-low-frequency requests, which means requests with an indicator not exceeding 30-100 requests per month.

Meanwhile, such a division of requests into groups will depend on the topic of the request itself. For example, for requests for commercial topics, the specified bars will be lower, while for entertainment ones they will be higher.

It is also worth mentioning LongTail queries, which contain a huge number of words, which is where the name (“long tail”) comes from. This type of request is meaningless, which is due to their low frequency.

But such keys can lead 50-80% of all visitors to the site. As a rule, in such cases, the site can be promoted independently, without requiring additional costs and SEO optimization, that is, you wrote and optimized an article for one key query, and it reached the top for thousands of micro-frequency queries (1-10 queries per month) and this called - LongTail - long tail of requests!!

    2.2. Google operators

The table shows the commands of the Google search engine. You can get acquainted with the operators by following the link.

    2.3. Selection of keywords

In most cases, search queries are selected using statistics services, but there are other methods.

    3. Statistics services for selecting search queries

Today this is the most popular way to obtain search query statistics. Such services are free, which is what made them popular. But you need to remember that the service reflects only the data that is available to it.

    1. Yandex Wordstat . The service covers approximately 55% of the data on basic search queries, which has made the service popular in compiling a semantic core for websites in Russian. You can select basic and associative queries.
    2. Google. Adwords . The service processes approximately 30% of search queries. Today it is the second most popular statistics service. The functionality is similar to the service from Yandex.
    3. Rambler.Adstat. The service takes third place, but its result is only 5%. Rarely used by webmasters.

    3.1. Search for promising queries

The listed services are not the only ones, so sometimes you can use more original methods.

    3.2. LiveInternet Analysis

This is a service of the most famous counter, containing huge statistics of search queries that can be freely analyzed. In addition, in this case, you can more accurately predict the potential success of the site than using the services listed above.

    First way

First, you should go to the statistics via the link , then select the category you are interested in, the list of which is on the left side:

Now you can start competing by borrowing search queries for yourself. It is recommended to choose sites located behind page 10 of the service.

Pay attention to the color of the icons. Based on color, you need to choose light sites, since dark sites are sites with closed statistics and are useless to us.

Now all that remains is to find those sites whose statistics are completely open; we are most interested in “by search phrases”:

    Second way

In this case, you need to analyze the TOP search engines. First, enter the key of interest into the search bar, after which the sites in the TOP are analyzed.

    3.3. MegaIndex Analysis

MegaIndex is an automatic promotion machine that, thanks to the presence of huge and free functionality, allows you to find interesting search queries.

Within the framework of this article, I will not talk about this, since I have already said a lot in the article - there is a detailed video from the Megaindex company itself.

    4. Analysis and screening of key queries

The collected queries should be carefully analyzed, removing “dummy queries”, HF and ineffective phrases.

The reason for writing a new article about the most popular word selection tool was its recent global update, which led to a number of innovations and improvements. In addition to a short story on this topic, I will dwell in detail on the correct use of Wordstat operators and other features of the service.

How to find out the number of requests in Yandex?

First, a little information: Yandex Wordstat(wordstat.yandex.ru) is a tool for selecting keywords based on user queries, which displays statistics on the frequency of use of the specified word (first column), as well as on words from similar topics (second column). With the help of Wordstat, both advertisers and SEO specialists can find out the number of queries in Yandex.

The principle of operation is that you indicate the word or phrase for which statistics are of interest. Next, the system shows everything key phrases, in which the word you specified is used, and its frequency is located next to it. Each of the following phrases aggregates information. The minimum frequency is 3.

Information is updated once a month. The update date is indicated in the upper right corner.

New Yandex Wordstat. Update from 08/07/13

If you previously used Wordstat to check queries in Yandex, you probably encountered wild problems with the speed of the interface. I think there have been a lot of complaints written to support about this. Not only this has changed in the new version:

    1. The speed of the service has been increased - according to my feelings, the service has become several times faster.
    2. The architecture of the service has been changed - previously, when using the service, the URL changed and you could go to page 20 in one click by replacing one of the parameters. Currently there is no such possibility.
    3. Certain parts of the interface have been revised - the summary table by region has been combined with data on the map, and Yandex query statistics by month and week have been grouped on one tab.

    About automatic Wordstat parser programs

As they say, in every barrel of honey there is a fly in the ointment. And this time, the fly in the ointment was the complete ban on access to the interface for checking key phrases by third-party programs, which are very popular among contextual and SEO specialists. We all sincerely hope that our favorite services will resume operation as soon as possible. Here I provide a summary table that shows data for popular Wordstat parsers as of the moment. Information will be updated as services are restored.

    How to use Wordstat?

Most people make mistakes when using the service, as a result of which incorrect data appears in the statistics, and further actions for promotion in search engines are completely pointless. In addition, there is often an artificial increase in the number of requests for keywords. Below I have collected basic recommendations for working with Wordstat with detailed comments that will be useful for both beginners and professionals:

    Refine phrases using operators

The operators for Yandex Wordstat are the same as in Yandex Direct. I talked about them in more detail in the article ““. Main operators:

    OperatorCommentExample
    < — >Minus signRequest frequency excludingBuy a moped – used – Moscow
    < «» >Double quotesPhrase match statistics for a word or phrase"modem cost"
    < ! >Exclamation markFrequency for a given word form!vase price
< + >Plus signForced accounting of prepositions+ how Yandex Direct works
<(|)>Parentheses and forward slashGroups statistics by queriesAir conditioning (car | car)

While the first four operators are popular because they are very often used in Direct, almost no one uses the fifth. Although in skillful hands it is more useful than others, and the speed of selecting words with it increases significantly. Let me give you an example: in order to collect statistics for advertising a bow tie store, you can use the following query:

As a result, we will receive information simultaneously about such requests as:

    • order a men's bow tie;
    • bow tie price;
    • how much does a woman's bow tie cost, etc.

Thus, using the grouping operator, statistics are collected in one click. The range of applications is quite wide; for example, in the example provided, you can check the frequency for transactional key phrases.

    Choose the right keywords

Don't forget to indicate region to check request frequency and do not focus on the frequency of words by broad match, i.e. without using operators. Look at the huge difference:

    • Buy online store - 811 430
    • “Buy!online!shop” – 1,362

When you select keywords for a site, each word must be further clarified to check the frequency by exact match, since dummy phrases are very common.

    Analyze request statistics by month

Using the “Request History” tab, you can evaluate the seasonality of demand, as well as see its dynamics depending on the time of year. Also statistics by month helps to determine with a high degree of probability the natural frequency of a word. The naked eye will notice a sharp jump in the graph of words with artificial boost, while the number of low-frequency speakers will remain at the same level.

Use automatic word selection (parser programs)

Automatic services for keyword selection I listed above. Their use allows you to significantly reduce the amount of monotonous work and time spent checking frequencies with and without operators. In the near future I will publish an article about my favorite program for Wordstat - Slovoeb. In order not to miss the release of the article, I recommend subscribing to my updates!

    Best regards, Alexander Golfstream!
