• Firmware for Motorola smartphones via RSD Lite. Firmware for Motorola smartphones via RSD Lite Firmware via RDS LITE

So, we will install one of two firmwares: SteelDroid v5.0 (Gingerbread) or SteelDroid v5.6 (ICS),

    What will we get:

    1. Significant acceleration in device operation, increased smoothness on both firmwares
    2. Stability, no reboots
    3. Can run applications that require version 4 (v5.6 only)
    4. CPU overclock - 1200 MHz from stock 1000 MHz
    5. The firmware is cleared of all kinds of “garbage”; all necessary applications can be installed independently.
    6. Most importantly, the loading time of the smartphone is significantly faster, v5.0 is even faster than v5.6, although both firmware load much faster than stock.
    7. A bunch of convenient features: power control in the Notifications panel, improved work with screens, advanced settings.

    There are also disadvantages:

    1. Hardware video acceleration does not work on v5.6, but it plays normally in software, only the battery drains much faster.
    2. In version v5, system applications from MotoBlur have their own “native” interface, which looks beautiful and modern, but does not harmonize with the rest of the system interface; in v5.6 everything is brought to a single style.
    3. The LED does not work (or I did not find where to turn it on) in version v5.6
    4. The standard camera application in v5.6 can only shoot to the phone's internal memory, but not to the memory card.
    5. Bluetooth connects, but does not work (not tested) v5.6
    6. The dialing screen can sometimes turn black (not tested) v5.6
    7. The keyboard backlight works, but is “tied” to adjusting the screen brightness (???)- everything works fine for me, the backlight is bright, regardless of the position of the screen brightness control.
    8. The camera slows down a little in version v5.6 compared to the stock firmware, but in general, such “slowdown” is acceptable and does not interfere with normal operation of the camera
    9. Panorama mode in the camera does not work in v5.6

Now that we've sorted out the pros and cons, we can begin installation. I write everything briefly and without water:

To install any of the above ROMs, you must have the firmware installed or 5.6.890SBF, or 5.7.906 (my case). In all the author's manuals, I only saw recommendations regarding the 890 SBF version, but everything worked fine for me.

The phone should already be rooted, you can read and see how to do this

Now download the firmware we are interested in:
Steel Droid v5.0 based on 5.7.906 - Gingerbread
    Steel Droid v5.6, ICS

You need to install Safestrap Recovery for - download
Install the application, click Install recovery and wait for the installation to complete.
That's it, now we can launch custom roms on 3.

We put the firmware we like into the root of the SD card and reboot the phone. When the splash screen appears, press menu (four squares at the bottom left on the phone’s soft key) and enter the menu.

It is necessary to create a partition (Slot) on which we will install the firmware - Boot Options ---> Rom Slot 1 (or any other), mark the desired memory sizes and click create ROM slot.
The process of creating a slot is quite lengthy and can take 5-10 minutes, depending on the selected dimensions.

If there is not enough memory to install the firmware, you need to delete something from the internal memory of the phone, but with a huge number of applications (about 7 screens) I had enough space for the most “demanding” option of 3 GB (later I deleted all data and applications from stock firmware to make room for custom).

If you wish, you can back up - press the Backup button, select what we will copy.
You can restore using the Restore button.

    Install Rom:

Select the required slot for installation (in this case, No. 1), activate it, go to the main menu of Safestrap Recovery and select Install. Load the file with Rom on the memory card and swipe your finger across the screen to start the installation. Once the installation is complete, go to the main menu and select Reboot--->System.

The first time Rom loads for a very long time, about 5-7 minutes. If the phone shows the boot animation for a longer time, you can remove the battery and try to boot again. I just had one case, after which the firmware loaded normally and started working.

    Bypassing the activation screen

If you have flashed Steel Droid v5.0 on your phone, you may get stuck on the activation screen. In this case, simply touch the screen sequentially as shown in the picture - from the upper left corner (you need clicks, not “swipes”), the activation screen will be completed. It takes about one and a half turns to unlock the screen.

To download the stock firmware, simply reboot the smartphone, enter recovery using the “menu” button and select the stock firmware as the active slot.

I use a smartphone with firmware v5.6 and overclocking up to 1200 MHz, in general the work is very stable and fast, battery life has not decreased much.
I will answer all questions in the comments, I am interested in the opinions of other users who have installed custom roms on Droid 3.

UPD The LED works, but only shines in white, and not in different colors for a specific application as before.

you point after differs firmware installation Let's start in Description of version and fixes:
    choose the device.

Motorola devices are flashed with the RSD Lite program. The process is the same, but depending on the model, adjustments are made during the process. Let's look at this in detail during the process of flashing the Razr M XT907 smartphone.

RSD Lite is a Motorola tool for installing software, downloading only official firmware and is not suitable for third-party modifications. The program checks the region of the device and will not allow you to install European or Asian firmware on an American smartphone, and vice versa. In addition, in most cases, you cannot downgrade the firmware or certain partitions (except for an unlocked bootloader).

    Preparation

    1. Check the device model using the information in the “About phone” section in the settings. This will help you select the correct file and avoid problems in the process.
    2. Decide what type of firmware you need. At the end of the file names there are combinations CFC and 1FF; they do not differ in structure, with the exception of the firmware file.
      • CFC - when flashing, all information from the phone is erased (flashed from scratch).
      • 1FF – intended for updating and does not affect internal memory data
    3. Download the firmware, but first make sure that the disk space on your computer is at least 2 times larger than the firmware itself weighs.
    4. Download and install drivers from the official Motorola page, as well as the RSD Lite program from the link. Be sure to download the latest version of drivers and software.

Important! For security reasons, RSD will prevent installation of inappropriate firmware, but exceptions do occur and may result in damage to the smartphone. Prepare properly and do not act hastily.

    Preparing for firmware

    1. For security purposes, remove the SIM and MicroSD card and backup data from the internal memory.
    2. Make sure the battery is at least 75% charged.
    3. Unpack the firmware you downloaded, if it is in the archive.
    4. The extracted folder contains an XML file, open it with WordPad or Notepad. In the code that appears, delete the lines, this will avoid software damage to the device:

Search by keywords – tz and gpt.

Also, if you have a device from the American operator Verizon, deleting the line will solve a possible error during flashing. If there is no line, follow the instructions below.

Important! Installing official Motorola firmware is the same for all models. In some cases, pre-editing of the XML file is required, and sometimes not. The instructions describe an example of upgrading the Motorola Razr M XT907 firmware from Android 4.1.2 to Android 4.4.2. This does not require an unlocked boot, but to downgrade, for example from Android 4.4.2 to Android 4.1.2, an unlocked bootloader is required. Then from the XML firmware Android 4.1.2 we remove the following lines:

Whether and what lines of code need to be removed for your model, check on the relevant forums.

    5. We reset to factory settings or delete the cache and date in recovery mode. To get into recovery (recovery mode), turn off the device, simultaneously hold down the power and volume buttons until the logo with text appears at the top of the screen. We find the desired item by scrolling with the volume button down (cyclic scrolling), selection is made by pressing the up key. In a new window (with a lying green robot), press both volume keys at the same time. In the list of actions that appears, clear the cache and data.

    6. We put the smartphone into firmware mode via RSD Lite, for devices before 2013 we do it manually, in other cases RSD will do it itself. The sequence of actions is the same as in the previous paragraph, only you need to select AP Fastboot.

    Firmware via RDS LITE

    1. Connect the USB cable to the connector on the back of the computer, do not use a USB hub or extension cables, use only the original cable or a high-quality analogue. Close all background programs, make sure that the computer does not restart in the process, and that the cord is firmly inserted on both sides.

    2. Launch RSD Lite, in the “Filename” field insert the path with the location of the firmware or look for it by clicking on the button with the ellipsis. Click the “Show Device” button to update the list of models. Below, in the left window, information about the connected device will be displayed, in the right window about the selected firmware.

    3. If everything is in order, press the “Start” button, after which the firmware will begin. From now on, do not touch the phone under any circumstances or perform any actions on the computer.

    4. Wait for the files to download. The “system.img” firmware will take the most time (3-5 minutes). During the process, the smartphone will reboot 1-2 times, do not be alarmed.

    5. After finishing, the system will start on the smartphone itself (the first boot is 1.5-2 times longer than subsequent ones), and Pass will be written in the “Result” column. If you still have “In Progress...”, do not touch the device for 5 minutes and then turn it off.

    6. If necessary, perform a factory reset (recommended).

If the firmware is not installed successfully, the message “Fail” will be displayed in the “Result” column. Description of the cause of the error in the Log file, which is located in the same folder with RSD Lite. Open and report the error on the relevant forum so that they can help you understand the problem.
