PyRobot aims to help AI researchers and students integrate deep learning models built using the PyTorch platform (a machine learning library for the Python programming language) with the robots they create. Another important item in the “Allowed Content” section is “Websites”. In it, you can limit your child’s journey on the Internet to only a few specific sites, generally excluding the very possibility of visiting any others. Restrictions for books, films, music, etc. are also set there.

But the “Privacy” section is not related to children, but to third-party applications that are given restrictions on the use of any privacy settings. For example, in the “Contacts” item you can deny access to your contacts from applications like Skype or ICQ.

In the “Allow changes” item, you can prohibit adding restrictions to accounts. There you can also set a ban on updating applications and even adjusting the sound volume. And finally, restrictions in Game Center mean the ability to play with other users and add friends.

Guided access

The Guided Access feature limits your device's use to just one application you're running. At the same time, you can set some restrictions on the use of screen areas. For example, make the area in which advertising messages appear inaccessible for clicking.

To enable Guided Access, use " Settings» — « Basic» — « Universal Access» — « Guided access" Enable the feature and set a password.

Now you can launch Guided Access in any app by triple-clicking the Home button. Another interesting item is password settings. Here you need to choose how often the password will be requested in the AppStore - always or once every 15 minutes. If you select “always,” then a child who does not know the password will not be able to download anything. You can also select whether to require a password when installing free applications.

In the “Confidentiality” block, you can change the access rights that have been given to various offers. For example, to a microphone, photo album, Bluetooth, and so on.

Another block is “Allow changes”. Here you can allow or disallow updating applications and even changing the volume (what if your child gets addicted to excessively loud music!). Well, in the “Game center” block some of the capabilities of this very “Game center” are blocked, including adding friends and multiplayer in games.

Separately, you can set up another useful function for parents - “Ask to buy”. To do this, you must have active Family Sharing. Parental Control Features in Android

While Apple plans improvements, Android has yet to offer even similar parental controls. Okay, I won't lie - I showed up. But the Family Link feature currently only works in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. There is no data on its appearance in Russia. But the fact that the help section about Family Link has already been translated into Russian is a little reassuring.

The new option will allow you to control the installation and removal of applications (parents will receive requests for purchases), Internet surfing, time spent on the device (daily limits + the phone can be completely blocked during sleep).

Well, while Family Link doesn’t work in Russia, I’ll tell you about other built-in content filtering capabilities in Android. The simplest option: remove all unnecessary applications, do not tell your child the password to your Google account, and set a password request for any purchase (Play Store - Settings - Authentication upon purchase). But, alas, this will not apply to free applications, so the setting will only protect you from ruin, nothing more.

Need more drastic measures? Set a password to launch certain applications. The same Play Market or browser. There are many utilities for this, the most popular are App Locker, App Lock, Smart AppLock.

In order not to irritate your child by asking for a password, you can do it more elegantly - hide program icons. Alas, most applications (Hide it Pro, Hide App) with similar functionality require root access. However, there is an alternative - App Hider. “Root” is not needed, it just somehow imports programs to itself (after importing they need to be removed from the system). The idea, frankly speaking, is strange, since it raises the question of the safety of using the software and updating it. In addition, App Hider does not support all applications. For example, I didn’t find an option to hide the browser.

Another option is to use third-party launchers. Many of them allow you to easily hide program icons. For example, Apex Launcher, Anole, C Launcher.

But let's return to the built-in capabilities of Android. If you give your child access to the Play Store catalog, then set parental controls in the settings. We are talking about age restrictions for programs and games, movies, music.

YouTube also has content filtering capabilities; to do this, you need to enable “safe mode” in the program settings.

Although I think that YouTube should be completely removed from a child’s phone. It sucks in like a black hole, there is little useful stuff there, but there are a ton of videos with reviews of toys, unpacking of kinders, stupid jokes, and uncultured speech. And, alas, even safe mode will not filter all this out, as Google itself admits.

The market has an official utility “YouTube for children”, but in fact it is the same “safe mode”. On the main page there is an advertisement for cartoons; if you go deeper, you will see a pile of “garbage”.

As an alternative, you can consider the application, MULT (iOS, Android). There are only popular cartoons and nothing but cartoons. But a monthly subscription is required.

To conclude this section, I’ll add that on Android tablets (although not all, according to reviews), you can create a limited user profile. You need to open the settings - “Users” - “Add user/profile” - “Profile with limited access”.
