    The Galaxy S10 and presumably the S10+ promise to be Samsung's most interesting devices in years. And there are at least two reasons for this. Firstly, the Galaxy S9 sold poorly because it didn’t offer anything interesting, and the company needs to rehabilitate itself. Secondly, in 2019 the anniversary smartphone Samsung Galaxy S10 will be presented - the tenth generation of the flagship, which is bound to become truly revolutionary.

    We expect the smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, 3D facial recognition, three or four rear cameras, and a new processor. We will also definitely see a completely frameless design, which we have been waiting for a long time. Read more about what the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be like in our preview below.

    Design

    It's possible that one version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 (possibly the S10 Mini) may not have a built-in fingerprint sensor. According to the SamMobile editors, a more budget version of the Galaxy is also being prepared for release, where the fingerprint recognition sensor is located on the side.

    The case is protected from water and dust according to the IP68 standard. At the back we will see the usual glass cover. The number of cameras located on it remains a mystery. In light of recent events, it is possible that there will be four modules: a main one, a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens with two- or three-fold zoom, as well as a black-and-white module or a separate sensor for determining depth of field.

    The phone will not lose a mini-jack for headphones, will have stereo speakers and a USB Type-C charging port. The opportunity to expand the internal memory of the smartphone will not disappear either.

    In September, Samsung CEO DJ Koh said the Galaxy S10 would come in a "staggering" range of color options. We will find out what the Koreans have prepared for us when the device comes out.

    Display

    The larger version of the Galaxy S10 will be equipped with a 6.2- or 6.3-inch screen, while the small one will have a 5.8-inch display. Super AMOLED matrices are expected, as in previous Galaxies.

    In March 2018, Samsung patents surfaced containing drawings of a smartphone in which the front panel is 99% occupied by the display. In this case, the front camera can be under the screen, or located in a special retractable module, as in Vivo NEX. Obviously, the developers also hid the sensors under glass.

    There is no doubt that the screen will be excellent, because in previous models it was their calling card. There will be enough brightness, viewing angles should also please us. The picture will probably remain the same oversaturated, but the color rendition can be adjusted in the system settings.

    Sound and communication

    The company will continue to install stereo speakers. Surely they will be developed in collaboration with the Harman Kardon corporation, owned by Samsung. Let us remind you that the sound in the Galaxy S9 was one of the best among all smartphones. The C10 will have an audio jack, and is also expected to support aptX HD and LDAC to improve sound in wireless headphones.

    The developers will install NFC, which works in Russia and other CIS countries. There are speculations that a version of the S10 will be released with support for 5G networks, but there is little confirmation of this information.

    Firmware

    We still know almost nothing about what the company will implement in the new operating system, but we have several leaks and assumptions.

    First, it's almost certain that Samsung's 2019 flagship will ship with Android 9.0 P. We're also expecting to see a major update to Bixby since Samsung acquired Viv, the startup created by the founders of Siri. We hope that this assistant will finally become useful.

    There's also a chance that the Galaxy S10 will come with improved activity and health tracking apps. According to a recently published patent by Let's Go Digital, Samsung is working on an app that detects your skin type and can offer recommendations for limiting sun exposure.

    We really hope that Samsung will work on the smoothness of the firmware, because their Exynos-powered smartphones sometimes managed to lag more than budget phones from Meizu. A dark theme will appear, and the DEX mode will also be improved, which still works well.

    Cameras

    Samsung installs at least three lenses on the rear panel. There is no doubt about it. But why stop at three rear lenses? Insiders report that Samsung will add a second front-facing lens to improve portrait mode performance.

    Engineers will install completely new modules into the new product (their characteristics are not yet known). The main one will be focused on improving photo quality in low light. Perhaps they will show us a 48-megapixel sensor. Telephoto (2x or 3x zoom) and wide-angle (120-degree) lenses should also have optical stabilization.

    In terms of video, there should be improvements in terms of stabilization. Improved HDR video technology cannot be ruled out, because something needs to be done to respond to the Smart HDR feature introduced by Apple. Also, thanks to the new processors, recording in 4K 120 FPS, 1080p 960 FPS or even 8K 30 FPS can be realized, which, of course, is unlikely.

    There will be two cameras on the front. It's unclear what improvements this will bring, since blur works very well without an auxiliary sensor. Perhaps the company will offer new functionality, redesigned Animoji and other goodies, selfie features based on AI.

    Performance

    Samsung in February announced it was investing $5.6 billion in a new factory to create 7-nanometer chipsets. Qualcomm also recently released the first samples of Snapdragon 855 using this process technology and sent them to vendors for testing.

    Obviously, the international version of the Galaxy S10 will have an Exynos 9820 processor, and the American version will have a Snapdragon 855. The configuration of the Samsung processor is not yet known, but there is no doubt that the new Cortex-A76 cores, which are already in the Kirin 980, will be used there. We assume that the corporation will not abandon the big.LITTLE architecture, which will have four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores and 4 productive Cortex-A76 cores. But there is news that the SoC will have three clusters, built on the principle of 4 + 2 + 2, not 4 + 4. The Mali-G76 should be responsible for the graphics.

    It is extremely important that Samsung will put new LPDDR5 memory on the board and install a UFS 3.0 type drive, which will significantly increase the speed of the phone. UFS 3.0, in particular, consumes less power, processes requests faster and is more stable at high temperatures. LPDDR5's faster read and write speeds will allow for new content, such as creating 8K videos.

    In synthetic tests AnTuTu and Geekbench the increase should be significant. However, there are big questions about the stability of such a powerful phone, since the corporation simply may not implement high-quality heat dissipation and power supply.

    Autonomy

    We are waiting for an increase in the speed of the devices. Moreover, the battery capacity may change slightly or remain the same, but the energy efficiency of the components will mean that the phone can be used longer without recharging.

    Charging should become faster thanks to the new Quick Charge from Qualcomm and updated technology in the SoC Exynos 9820. Wireless charging will also remain on board.

    Release date

    We should expect the new mobile phone to be announced at next year's Mobile World Congress, which starts on February 25th. The exact release date has not yet been revealed. If Samsung follows a similar plan for the S10 as it did for the S9, the phone will hit shelves in mid-March 2019.

    The price is not mentioned anywhere. Considering the number of innovations and the price tag for Apple products, Koreans can ask for at least $900, or even $1000 for the junior version of the flagship.

    Bottom line

    If everything goes as leaks and analyst reviews say, then we will see the chic smartphones S10, S10 Plus and, possibly, S10 Mini, which we have been waiting for a long time, but Apple and Samsung did not want to show them to us in the same year, rolling out pass-through flagships.     The Galaxy S10 isn't set to get that camera - the two larger models come with five cameras - although the software will likely be the same. New details about the S10's cameras suggest it will have a 16Mp (standard) + 13Mp (telephoto) + 12Mp (wide-angle) setup on the back.

    When is Galaxy S10 coming out?

    Samsung is not expected to deviate from its traditional MWC Unpacked event in 2019. S10 will most likely be announced a day before the show starts, setting the release date - February 24, 2019. Expect it to go on pre-order immediately and ship mid-March 2019.

    The next flagship of Samsung Electronics in 2019 will have a 3D facial recognition function similar to Face ID on the iPhone X. This was reported by the Korean publication The Bell. According to the source, Israeli startup Mantis Vision is working on a 3D camera module and the necessary software for the Samsung Galaxy S10 in collaboration with Namuga.
