• Reset to factory settings (hard reset) for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S (White). Who had a Sony Ericsson and what model? Sony Ericsson's first phones

Let's look at what happened and what happened to the company about which there are so many good memories.

At the end of last week I returned from Sochi, where the official presentation of the new line of Sony Xperia X smartphones took place. More about the trip later.

On the way from there I thought. Over the past five years, we have seen first-hand the demise of major smartphone brands. The all-powerful Nokia has virtually disappeared. Palm has sunk into oblivion. Blackberry has practically disappeared. Scary (and strange) things are happening to HTC.

The market is being conquered by wild, regularly lying “Chinese” who often have no respect for their customers - just low prices and/or attractive designs. The real choice between truly high-quality smartphones is becoming less and less.

It's good that someone stayed. Sony one of those who has withstood the onslaught of China and is slowly finding its niche - at least judging by the announcement of the X line.

It's time to remember what made them happy in the previous period of success - when they were called not Sony Mobile, but Sony Ericsson.

What do you remember from Sony during the Ericsson era?

Everyone will have their own model, their own story, so go to the comments and let's see who has which tube :)

A lot of time has passed, but best of all I remember these phones:

    Sony Ericsson T68i

    2002

One of the first color phones I've ever seen. I remember it for its comfortable joystick, cool shape and pumped-up “snake” option in pre-installed games. Who remembers what it was called - special respect :)

    Sony Ericsson W800

    2005

Everyone was talking about it and really wanted to touch everything. This is what the Walkman brand once did with people :) Corporate colors, a stylized design theme and a music player, plus a separate button to start it - basically, that’s all this phone could boast of. But the Walkman itself sold the model in droves, and Java toys also worked very well on it.

    Sony Ericsson k750

    2005

I still regret that I sold it at the time! The camera was simply incredible: from sharpness to color rendition, there were no analogues on the market at all. Entire sites were opened where people posted photos from the k750i. Many people were also interested in the camera’s mechanical shutter, a rare thing at that time. Tellingly, the phone itself also worked quickly. It was a real flagship, without any “buts”.

    Sony Ericsson T650i

    2007

I was terribly driven along this tube. I think I ended up having 3 or 4 of these models. I really liked the design and quality of the case - it was a piece of metal and a display made of mineral glass, not plastic. The only negative: the paint on the keyboard wore off over time. I still consider it one of the most stylish phones ever released.

    Sony Ericsson M600

    2006

One of the first smartphones on the market with a 2.6-inch display. Advanced operating system – Symbian 9.1. There is also an interesting rocker keyboard, as well as a physical scroll wheel on the side. Did I already mention that it was touch sensitive and recognized handwriting? The M600 surprised us with its “advancedness”; everyone wanted to hold it and poke at the menu. By the way, in just 1 year the first iPhone will be presented, and such phones will disappear into oblivion.

    Sony Ericsson W580

    2007

The last smartphone from SE in my collection. Cool slider with a good screen and a constantly breaking keyboard :) I got used to replacing it myself. It worked quickly, but otherwise wasn't very satisfying. It began to seem that the Erricksons were losing their grip, that Nokia was catching up with them. Time put everyone in their place, and then I changed 2 of these phones and eventually put the last one in the back drawer.

What's interesting at Sony now + share your stories

To be honest, until last year I was interested in smartphones from Sony on a residual basis. They didn’t have models that would not only surprise you, but make you want to pick them up and buy them. Is it the huge “phablets” of the series? Z.

But I left the presentation of the X line with a positive impression. It looks like Sony has finally decided what sees her devices - and what features she wants to make branded.

For example, now they will have everywhere rounded glass. The highest quality camera modules are installed. They are going to touch the operating system as little as possible. The front frames of the display are painted to match the color of the body (peek-a-boo, Apple).

Of the new Xperia X line, I was most impressed by the model XA, which we will definitely tell you about later. In the meantime, the “middle class” has appeared on sale - model X, 39,990 rubles.

Today, as part of a series of nostalgic materials about legendary phones, we will remember the fruits of almost ten years of cooperation between Sony and Ericsson. Both companies had experience creating mobile phones before collaborating, so it is not surprising that they produced really worthwhile and popular devices. The collaboration began when the Philips plant in New Mexico, which supplied electronics to Ericsson, burned to the ground and there were significant difficulties with restoration. The company had to look for other partners. Sony became such a partner; Since 2002, phones under the Sony Ericsson brand began to be produced. In 2011, Sony bought out the part that belonged to Ericsson and began producing devices under its own brand.

    Sony Ericsson T68i

Let's start with the Sony Ericsson T68i, it was released in 2002 and was a renamed Ericsson T68 (which was the company's first color device and simply a very successful model). Apart from the logo, name and some color changes, nothing was changed in the phone (hardware). The phone's firmware has been improved, although the Ericsson version could be updated to the latest version. It was a classic all-in-one keyboard with STN screen with a resolution of 101x80, which displayed 256 colors. The device supported SMS, EMS, MMS, Email, WAP 2.0 and xHTML. There were Bluetooth modules 1.0b and IrDA. The device did not have its own camera, but if desired, you could connect an external one.

    Sony Ericsson T610

The next hero of today's article is the Sony Ericsson T610, which was very popular in its time, which many still have in working condition. The device was released in 2003 and had all the features that would be useful to the mass user (at that time). The gadget was quite pleasant in design and was available in three colors: red, black and blue. In all three cases, the keyboard unit was silver. At the ends of the device there were buttons for volume control, launching the camera and WAP browser.

The phone was equipped with a color STN display with a resolution 128x160, which displayed 65K colors. It was one of the first mass-produced phones with a built-in camera, it could take pictures with resolution 352x288. Sony Ericsson T610 supported MIDI ringtones, changing screen wallpapers, Java, GPRS, WAP 2.0/xHTML, was equipped with an e-mail client, an infrared port and Bluetooth 1.0b.

    Sony Ericsson K700

One of the representatives of the successful K-line of phones is the K700. It already had a TFT display with a resolution of 220x176, displaying 65K colors. The screen contained 7 lines of text. The interface has been significantly redesigned compared to previous models. “Setup Wizard”, which, when turned on for the first time, explains the purpose of the main control elements and offers basic settings (date, time, copying SIM card data to the phone book).

The phone supported playing music in MP3 format and video in 3GPP, although it was of little use as a player: the internal memory (accessible to the user) was about 42 MB, and memory cards were not supported. K700 supported Java (MIDP 2.0) and the execution of a 3D engine, which made it possible to play albeit primitive, but three-dimensional games. The phone had a 0.3 megapixel camera (640x480), which could shoot video with sound. Wireless interfaces IrDA and Bluetooth were present.

    Sony Ericsson K750i

This article would be incomplete without the legendary K750i, which was released in 2005 and was recognized as the best camera phone of that year. It was equipped with a two-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and the ability to shoot video. The chamber was closed with a retractable lid. The phone supported memory cards of its own Memory Stick Duo and Pro Duo formats up to 2 GB, which already made it possible to use the K750i as a player and not deny yourself frequent shooting with the built-in camera.

The phone was installed color TFT display with a resolution of 220x176, which displayed 262,000 colors. On the case there were hardware buttons for the camera, volume (responsible for digital zoom in shooting mode) and launching the music player. The gadget had interfaces Bluetooth, IRDA, WAP 2.0 support, GPRS, HTML and POP/SMTP email client.

    Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i

The ideological successors of the K750i were the K790i/K800i in 2006. They were almost identical: the 800th model supported UMTS and was equipped with a front-facing VGA camera for video communication. These were the company's first camera phones under their Cyber-shot photo brand. It used a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and a xenon flash, and a sliding shutter was again provided to protect the lens. The screen has increased in diagonal to 2 inches, and the resolution has increased to 320x240. Supported audio playback in MP3, AAC, MIDI, WAV, AMR, M4A and RA (Real Audio) formats, Java MIDP 2.0 applications. The phones had a built-in modem, infrared port, Bluetooth and FM receiver.

    Sony Ericsson W800i

The hardware of the W800i was similar to the K750i. The main differences were the design, firmware and delivery package. It was the company's first mobile phone under the Walkman brand. The phone was beige with bright orange accents and, of course, the Walkman logo. The equipment was somewhat different: it included a headset with earbuds, and the software included an advanced (time-sensitive) player. The craftsmen installed firmware from the W800i on the K750i.

    Sony Ericsson P990i

Sony Ericsson's assortment included a large number of smartphones running the Symbian operating system OS with UIQ shell. They belonged to the P series and were equipped with various types of QWERTY keyboards and touch screens. The P800, P900, P910 and P990 were equipped with a standard keyboard and a folding flip. The later P1i did not have a flip, but had an interesting QWERTY keyboard with rocker buttons. Later there was another option without a camera (M600, also known as the “James Bond smartphone”). The latest device with a folding flip was the P990i. It ran on Symbian OS 9.1 with UIQ 3.0.

The smartphone was equipped with a touch display withresolution 240x320 (with the flip closed 240x256), which displayed 262,114 colors, the display diagonal was 2.76 inches. The main camera had a resolution of 2 megapixels with autofocus and a mechanical shutter. There were IRDA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules. On the side there was the JogDial, known since the days of the first Sony phones.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness X5

Despite the Xperia label, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness X5 was not a smartphone, but was very interesting from a design point of view. It used a transparent screen, which is still impressive today. The phone focused on the image and design components; the device did not have any special functions. Everything is standard: support WAP, GPRS, EDGE, music formatsMP3, AAC and built-in FM receiver. The body was compact and light.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 became the first, as it was then called, communicator from Sony Ericsson, was the first of the Xperia line and ran on the not very user-friendly Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system with its own small modification X-Panel, which was supposed to make life a little easier users. The smartphone was positioned as a business solution. Note the metal body and QWERTY keyboard with side sliding. The mechanism was not entirely standard: in the open position, the screen was located at an angle to the keyboard, which added convenience.

The device had a 3-inch (which was normal in those days) resistive touch screen with a very high resolution of 800x480 for its size. It was inside 400 MB of internal memory, MicroSD memory card slot, modules Bluetooth. Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and GPS and 3.2 megapixel camera.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Let's finish with the first Sony Ericsson device on the Android operating system. The Xperia X10 was released in 2009 and ran on Android 1.6 Donut, later updates to versions 2.1 and 2.3 were released, and at the moment there is a cart and a small cart of custom firmware up to Android 4.0. It has a 4-inch capacitive screen with a resolution 854x480. Despite the theoretical possibility of multi-touch support, it was not available in the device until 2011. Then a new firmware was released, some gestures began to be supported, but there were problems with the adequacy of the work. The hardware used inside was ridiculous by today's standards: a single-core Qualcomm processor Snapdragon QSD8250 with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, 384 MB of RAM and 1 GB of internal memory, expandable via MicroSD memory cards.

    1. I'll start with the fact that not everyone knows What is the best way to disconnect the charger from the phone?. If you just try to pull the connector out in a straight line, away from the phone, it is very difficult and you have to use force, otherwise you could damage the phone. In fact, it comes out easily and simply - it needs to be “broken”, as if you were breaking a chocolate bar, only on one side you hold the phone, on the other - the connector itself. Having done this, the connector itself comes out of the phone. This is also written in the instructions, but many simply do not read it, or skip the charging section. This design, in my opinion, is one of the best - the phone is tightly docked to the charger, does not fall out, and at the same time it is easy to get, and there are no unnecessary parts for undocking.
    2. How to get GPRS/MMS settings without long instructions telecom operator? This method usually works. Menu (click with the joystick) -> Settings icon -> General -> Settings Wizard -> Loading parameters. We perform it, wait, after some time we will be offered two types of settings - GPRS & MMS, then click “OK”. All! After this, in most cases you don’t need to do anything else!
    3. Pressing the side of the phone "Volume Up" button shows phone information(“Phone status”) - brand, battery percentage, memory capacity, and can also show the service number on the SIM card that you specified - I always enter the phone number of the SIM card itself there. It’s very convenient when you are using a mobile phone, but don’t remember the number - press “Volume Up” and the number is in front of you. But it needs to be driven in, so look at the next point on how to do this.
    4. To specify a number, for example SIM card number, and so that he was visible in “Phone status”, do: joystick down (usually “Contacts” is there, which is what we need) -> “Functions” -> “Additional. functions" -> "Special. numbers" -> "My numbers" and then select "My mobile" and enter the number there. It will be shown in the “Phone Status” for this particular SIM card! Now, if you insert another SIM card into your phone, it will not be shown - these numbers are tied to SIM cards!
    5. Did you know that whenever you edit any text, you can copy to and paste from the clipboard? If you don’t know, then remember this! It’s very convenient, for example, when you need to send an SMS to someone the number of your friend - then I do this: I find in contacts whose number to forward, do “Change contact”, select the number, then “Change”, but there I instead of changing, I click “Functions” -> “Copy all”. Then I exit without changes, go to SMS, and then through “Functions” -> “Change” -> “Insert”. This is one example of using copy text. You can also copy from your phone's browser (any piece of text), etc.
    6. The phone has profiles, each of which remembers the settings for sound, volume, vibration etc.. that you set while in this profile. It’s convenient when, for example, you are at home and go to bed - just change to the “Home” profile and you have completely different ringer volume settings, and vibration is turned off, for example. If you increase the volume in the “Home” profile, as usual (via “Menu” -> “Options” -> […]), then all this will then be saved in the settings of this particular profile! This rule applies to all phone profiles. Think about how often you used, for example, changing the volume, rather than just changing the profile?
    7. Here are some buttons, which operate in certain modes:
      ‘#’
      - in standby mode, pressing and holding the button - turn on/off the sound, in SMS dialing - switching the input language, and in browser mode with SmartFit disabled - a general view of the page with a frame for moving the viewing screen around the web page (this only applies to phones with the latest generations firmware, for example W980i, W995i, C510, and in my experience - if you have just such firmware, then it is better to browse www with SmartFit disabled - it’s more convenient);
      ‘*’
      — in SMS and text typing mode — press and hold — turn on/off T9, and in camera mode in older models (for example, w610i) — turn on/off the flash.
    8. Almost everywhere there is a menu, they work there buttons 1-9 to call up items. If in the main “Menu” mode (click the central button of the joystick), then the phone button that is located in the same position as the menu item on the screen is responsible for calling the desired item ('1' is the call to the top-left item, and '9 ' or '#' - calling the bottom rightmost, etc..). If you take the menu using the “soft button”, then numbers from 1-9 call up from the first item to the ninth.
    9. Almost everything is already Sony Ericsson phones have one very cool feature. Her name is "TrackID". If you hear some melody, but don’t know who is singing or what the song is called, you turn on TrackID, it records a few seconds of the song (via a regular microphone, but it can also be done from the internal radio) and sends the recorded piece via GPRS to the Sony Ericsson server. After a couple of seconds, it will be written on your screen - the name of the album, the name of the song and the name of the artist. All this is free, except for GPRS traffic, and of course, they won’t put the server’s IP addresses in theirs - they are experts at this!
    10. And the last recommendation - do not forget that if you find any glitches on the phone, then useful to update phone software directly from the phone itself - “Menu” -> “Options” -> “General” -> “Update service” -> “Search for updates” (before this, it is better to charge the battery by more than 50%). Before that I recommend writing down your contacts to the internal card of the phone (“Contacts” -> “Functions” -> “Additional functions” -> “Advanced” -> “Copy to card”). Also, if you decide to buy a new phone, on the Sony Ericsson website, as a rule, for each phone there is a virtual model of him— try menus, etc..

In general, I love Sony Ericsson precisely for its functionality! There are a lot of subtleties, knowing which you will be able to work with your phone most effectively! This is, of course, if you have a phone of this brand. If not, then I recommend thinking about changing your model to it 😉

    Swan song

    A little history:

Ericsson's only resource for the production of electronic components for mobile phones in the 90s was the Philips plant in New Mexico. In March 2000, a fire occurred at the plant, destroying equipment and putting production lines out of action. Philips hastened to assure Ericsson and Nokia (which was also a customer of chips from there) that production would be suspended for no more than a week. It soon became clear that troubleshooting would take several months, and Ericsson was faced with a shortage of components. This cast doubt on its future as a mobile phone manufacturer. At the same time, problems with chip supplies also affected Nokia, which was forced to urgently look for new equipment suppliers. Ericsson, which was the third largest mobile phone manufacturer at the beginning of 2001, faced serious risks caused by the fire. In order to reduce production costs, the company decided to cooperate with Asian manufacturers, and primarily with Sony.

In August 2001, the Sony and Ericsson concerns agreed on the terms of the merger of their mobile divisions and further cooperation. The total number of employees at the time of the founding of the combined enterprise was 3,500 people. Since 2002, both companies finally stopped producing phones under their own brands, and the line planned for 2002-2003 was already produced under the Sony Ericsson brand.

    Afterword:

At the end of October 2011, Ericsson agreed to sell its stake in Sony Ericsson to a Japanese partner.
How sad it is that Ericsson, the top cellular phone manufacturer at the beginning of the century, did not follow its own path of development, but got involved with the Japanese monster.

The review will look at the latest product of the alliance, which can now be found at an attractive price of 7,490 rubles. Large retail companies have decided to get rid of stale Sony Ericsson products and are reducing prices. A couple of days ago I could buy a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc for the same amount as Ray. The branded portable charger with battery for Ray and a bluetooth headset have become much cheaper, but it’s a pity, there’s no money to buy everything.

    Equipment:
    - stereo headset,
    - MicroSD memory card 4 GB,
    - charger,
    - Micro USB cable for charging,
    - documentation.

The box made me remember the old days, it is so big that it is unusual to see it now in the era of compactness.
I was more or less pleased with the complete headset, at least a little, but the manufacturer took care of it, unlike HTC, which puts slag everywhere under the name INNOVATION)
I was disappointed by the small memory card, remembering the starting price of the product of 15,990 rubles, I could not have been greedy and put in 16Gb, or at least 8Gb.

    Design

The design of the device is strict, very pleasant with some small details and features. The side edges of the smartphone are covered with metal covers. The top and bottom are made oblique and directed parallel to each other.
The back cover is only available in black and has the most successful of the entire line, a matte finish with a metallic sheen.
At the top end there is a 3.5mm headset jack and a universal power/unlock button. On the right side there is a volume control key.
At the bottom of the front panel of the device there is a single mechanical, large oval-shaped key, which also allows you to unlock the phone and return to the main desktop. On top of the key there is an oval bezel with built-in backlighting that informs you about missed calls and new messages. The indicator is not encouraging; during charging it lights up red, then, when the battery reaches a certain capacity, it lights up green and it doesn’t turn off until the end, which makes it absolutely useless.

    Operation

When you pick up RAY for the first time, you are amazed at the compactness and thinness of the device. It’s unusual at first, but you soon get used to a small screen with a high resolution of 480x854 pixels and a large number of pixels per inch (PPI): 297. Which makes the picture clarity beyond all praise; individual pixels are very difficult to distinguish. At first I didn’t peel off the film with the specified characteristics, I thought about buying it, but upon closer inspection I noticed that the film was there and was glued incredibly neatly.
I have little experience using devices running Android, but I will immediately note the graphics performance of Adreno 205 compared to Adreno 200. The SAMSUNG Galaxy S3 dandelion theme looks much sharper and smoother, it’s all because of the screen resolution and graphics. I was glad that Angry Birds Stars Wars finally launched on 205 graphics yay))))
The camera frankly disappointed me, having learned that the module is the same as in Arc S. It does not shoot as instantly, you need to wait about a second to take a picture (and the flash is unable to give short-term pulses, you can only turn it on and shoot. Without a hardware shutter key you have to click on the screen to take a photo, it’s not very convenient or informative.
Music playback is at a decent level, I personally liked this device more than all my HTCs, but the sound does not reach the SAMSUNG Galaxy Note, it is still my ideal in the field of music playback))
Android version 2.3.4 does not want to be updated to 4.0, it says that the latest and greatest is installed (although I read that the manufacturer announced the ability to update to 4 droids.)

Access to the SIM and memory card slots is impossible without removing the battery.

    Testing

The test was carried out using the following programs:
    VELLAMO;
    AnTuTu Benchmark v.3.0.3;
    Smartbench 2010;
    Smartbench 2011;
    Smartbench 2012.
The sensor was tested using AnTuTu Tester.

The sensor showed excellent performance; multi-touch is designed for 10 simultaneous touches.

    Battery life

As with most Android devices, the life of a smartphone with active use of Internet resources is within 4 hours 34 minutes. The charging time could not be set; the indicator spoils everything, but it is also standard 2 hours 30 minutes. In terms of autonomy, there are no miracles.

    Conclusions:
A phone for fans of past nostalgia for Sony Ericsson. Making it the last of its kind, which adds a couple of pluses to the image of the device. For its price, design and workmanship, the smartphone is worth its $250 price tag. Don't miss your chance, there is still an opportunity to buy this now rare item.
