    The reason for closed ports may be blocking on the part of the provider or blocking on your wi-fi router, if you use one.     What prevents the messenger from exchanging data with the server? There can be many reasons. Here are the most common ones:

    1. No internet connection.
    2. You are using an outdated version of Skype.
    3. Skype is blocked by Windows Firewall.
    4. The official Skype server is unavailable.
    5. Problems with Internet Explorer.

    Fixing the error “Skype cannot connect”

    If you see a message on your monitor instead of a working messenger saying that Skype was unable to connect to the Internet, it is important to understand which of the above situations concerns you. Let's look at these situations in more detail and figure out what needs to be done in each of them.

    All programs do not have a network connection. Sometimes the provider is really to blame for carrying out repair work without warning. Or the user himself, who accidentally damaged the network cable. It’s quite simple to check whether this is a problem or not: open your browser and try to open any website. For example, Google.

    If it doesn’t work, then everything is fine with Skype, the problem is basically the Internet connection. In this case, you need to call your provider and ask what happened to your connection.

    Your version of Skype is out of date. When the messenger releases updates, it is better to install them immediately. Otherwise, unpleasant errors may occur. It's easy to check if you're using the latest version of Skype. You need to go to the “Help” tab and select “Check for updates.”

    If updates are available, you will see an icon with a green arrow in the window that appears, text that will prompt you to install the latest version of the application, and a “Download” button with which you can do this. Just click on it and let Skype update.

    But what if you can't access the Skype menu because you can't log into the program? Just uninstall Skype from your computer via “Control Panel” – “Programs and Features”, and then install it again from the official website– https://www.skype.com/ru/. There you will find the latest version of the messenger on your device and can install it on your computer.

    Sometimes Skype may write about the inability to connect to the Internet if it is blocked by a firewall. You can check whether the application can access the main domains by clicking on the link: http://www.skaip.su/proverit-dostup-k-skaypu. If at least one server is unavailable, try disabling the firewall and checking again.

    To do this, go to the firewall settings and select “Turn it on or off.”

    And then in the window that opens, check the “Disable firewall” options and click “OK.”

    If, after re-checking, there is still no connection to any of the servers, contact your provider.

    It happens that you cannot connect simply because the Skype servers themselves become unavailable.     The work of Skype is directly related to the work of Internet Explorer. It is an important component of the operating system, so a failure in its settings can lead to various errors in other programs. Try resetting your browser settings. To do this, close all programs and launch Internet Explorer. Then press the Alt button and wait for the menu to appear at the top of the screen. In the menu that appears, select “Service”.

    Today, the most effective way is to install Skype version 6.14. You can find it on the Internet. Almost everyone can benefit from uninstalling the current version and installing 6.14 instead.

    Judging by frequently appearing posts and statuses on social networks, after the next Skype update, people began to experience difficulties logging into the program. For some, the problem is solved by reinstalling the program, for others, cleaning the profile, and for others, a detailed analysis of the situation and solution to the problem helps.

    The day before yesterday I saw how one of my long-time and good friends had a problem - Skype simply stopped connecting, on the program screen when logging in it was displayed “Could not establish a connection to the server.” Reinstalling the program from the program archive on her computer did not help, so in the end I decided to help. :-)

    I have a huge ten-year experience of fixing similar problems with Microsoft Windows of all versions, so I roughly knew and understood what needed to be done. Just two weeks ago, one of my colleagues had a similar problem, who was helped by cleaning her computer with CCleaner and then reinstalling Skype. But here everything was more complicated.

    It’s worth starting with the fact that Windows XP was installed, which, as many people know, has been no longer supported by Microsoft since April 2014. Well, it’s not supported, and to hell with it, it doesn’t matter to us. Only I was wrong...

    Step 1 - Backup Message History

    Like any normal person, my friend was very worried about the safety of her correspondence, which is understandable - these are colleagues, partners, and friends with acquaintances. So I first needed to save all the history from the chats.

    This is done simply.

    • Open the “Start” menu - “Run”, enter %APPDATA%\Skype there and press Enter.
    • A directory with Skype files opens, in which you need to find an element with your login, go into it and copy the main.db file to the desktop, this is the history of the program.

    In fact, I would recommend saving the entire Skype directory just in case, and then deleting it from this very %APPDATA%. If reinstalling the program helps, then we will simply replace the new folder with the one we saved in the previous step and all your settings will be saved.

    Great! There is a backup copy, you can tinker further...

    Step 2 - Uninstall Skype

    The next step I decided to uninstall the old version of Skype and clean up all traces. To do this, I used the latest version of my favorite program for cleaning garbage in Windows - CCleaner. We go to the official website, download it and install it.

    Then we launch the program, go to the “Tools” - “Uninstall programs” section, find Skype in the list and click “Uninstall”. This will take a few minutes.

    Now you need to clean your computer's registry using the same program. We go to the “Registry” section, click on the “Search for problems” button and delete everything that is found.

    Step 3 - Install Skype

    Well then. Now you need to download the latest version of Skype from the official website. There are two options - download the full version (offline), or the installer via the Internet. Everyone chooses what they like best, I chose the second option.

    Save the file to your computer, wait for it to download and install as usual.

    I want to say that at this stage most of the problems are solved and you can calmly enter the program. But not everyone is lucky... :-)

    Failed to getprocaddress for GetLogicalProcessorInformation

    Yes, such an unpleasant error may occur after installing and launching the program. As far as I was able to find out, this only happens on computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2, which has been outdated for a long time and it’s time to update it.

    Going to the official Microsoft website, I quickly downloaded the latest Service Pack 3. Installed, rebooted and... the problem was fixed! Skype is working.

    Step 4 — Returning the correspondence history

    Once the program has started, you need to quickly exit it and then move the main.db file back to %APPDATA%\Skype\your_login\. Answer positively when asked about replacement. After this, all correspondence history, chats and dialogues will be returned to your Skype.

    Additions and notes

    Note 1. I didn’t go into detail about the fact that I had suspicions of viruses on my computer, which were confirmed after checking my computer with Dr.Web CureIt. Then the installed Nod32 was removed and the latest version of Kaspersky Antivirus was installed.

    Note 2. The %APPDATA% path will not work on all Microsoft operating systems. The surest way is to search for the word “Skype” in the C:\Application Data\ and C:\Users\ directories.

    Note 3. Using a proxy server when connecting to Skype can help you, but only temporarily. If none of the above helps, in the Skype login window there is a “Connection Problems” or “Connection Settings” menu, in which you can specify an available proxy server and use it.

    A week ago something happened to my Skype. I was working in the morning, turned off my laptop while I went to lunch, came back, and Skype wouldn’t turn on. The following message appears: “The connection cannot be established.”

    I tried rebooting the laptop, updating Skype, but these actions did not bring the desired results. I uninstalled the old version of Skype, but the new one did not want to install.

    I return to the old version, and there “the connection is not established.” I started asking friends and acquaintances what could be the reason? How to make Skype work? They offered a variety of options, but, alas, none of them worked, especially since I had already tried most of them.

    Other reasons for Skype not working
