• Smartphones with an external camera button. The five best smartphones from a photographer's point of view. Monopod for self-portrait photography

    When all sorts of predictions turn on the imagination and talk about the technology of the future, modular smartphones are sure to appear in such dreams. In the style of “...and the oppressed buyers of mobile phones will rise up, and a revolution will take place, when instead of smartphones becoming obsolete every year, we will be able to change processors, screens and cameras whenever we want!” (applause, shouts of “hurray!”). Therefore, everyone believed that the future had arrived, because at the turn of 2015-2016, modular smartphones finally became mass-produced.

    It came, but it turned out to be “a little” different from what those who liked to upgrade hardware in computers and any other electronics imagined it to be. The modular revolution, which Bolshevik enthusiasts have been talking about for so long, has finally arrived in large-scale smartphones. LG was the first to roll out such a model in 2016 - the Koreans completely overhauled their flagship, stripped it of the glamor that scared off many in the G4, and most importantly, awarded their new “G-5” with support for modules!

    LG combined a removable battery with a compartment for upgrading a smartphone

    But the modules did not provide any opportunity to change the processor, RAM, cameras or screen: LG offered external keys for controlling the camera (with a small battery), an audio chip and... that’s all, because the camera with 360-degree shooting and the robot ball work with a smartphone without wires, and virtual reality glasses with a connector for a mobile phone are not such a unique thing.

    The mounting of the modules at the bottom and the “battery-clip” look impressive, but no one was in a hurry to pay 4,000 rubles for external keys, carry them in a pocket and connect them with a complete shutdown of the smartphone, and audiophiles are accustomed to the fact that the audio chip in the smartphone no need to spend money separately. The company’s engineers failed to convince customers that modules are prestigious (like heavy SUVs on asphalt roads), so the company’s new flagship, LG V20, did without plug-in gizmos, and sales of the “G-5”, which in itself is not bad, were reported. but did not become a “modular locomotive”; LG prefers not to spread it. The new LG G6, which the Koreans will show in February-March 2017, apparently, will already do without plug-in mods.

    Motorola released modular smartphones six months later and, looking at LG's experience, took a different route. In the new Moto we saw modules of the “attached - works” format, without any moving parts in the case. Speakers, battery, camera, projector (Lenovo, which bought Motorola, generally likes to introduce projectors into gadgets for some unknown reason) - if you don’t remember the assorted back covers that are attached to the same magnetic connector. Only these joys never replace anything in the design of the smartphone itself, but are simply “glued” to the back panel. In a duet with the ultra-thin Moto Z, this fact does not create a tragedy, but in the case of more well-fed smartphones, the design looks like a “brick”.

    Moto modifications do not change the design of the smartphone and are “smart attachments” to the rear panel

    No interference with your smartphone - only connected accessories

    But that’s not the point, as Sofia Rotaru sings. But the bottom line is that seemingly elementary modules are on par with Chinese flagship smartphones. Lenovo, for example, expects that you will first buy for 35 thousand rubles (the cheapest of the modular ones, Moto Z Play), and then buy a connected camera with an additional payment of 20 thousand, or a projector for 23 thousand rubles. And if you still intend to buy the flagship Moto Z, then with any of these modules the purchase amount will be 70 thousand rubles or more. A battery module costing 4 thousand is not surprising against this background, but is it really needed in the era of PowerBanks with fast charging? The external charger simply does its job and the backpack is sent, and the battery module will have to be worn on the smartphone body. I can’t judge whether someone needs a projector in their smartphone, but I’m not familiar with such smartphone buyers. But the connected JBL speakers are pleasing even at a price of 7 thousand rubles - branded Bluetooth speakers in Russian cell phone stores will not cost much less.

    But who will agree to buy from you a smartphone with a ballast accessory worth 20 thousand (okay, even 10 thousand), if you, for example, want to replace Lenovo with an iPhone? And won't you get tired of buying 5.5-inch mobile phones from year to year? But it is precisely for this size that Lenovo plans to continue to release new modifications - and all new models with support for Moto Mods will undergo “equalization” so that compatibility with old mods remains valid.

    Modular? Modular! Smartphones? Smartphones! But there is a nuance...

    Of course, taking care of the compatibility of modifications in all possible models is a good task. And Lenovo is doing the right thing when they allow third-party brands to create Moto modules - there are chances that the “kulibins” will create something truly unique and in demand in today’s mobile phones. But these are not the smartphones that enthusiasts and upgrade lovers dreamed of. Current modules will not save you from degradation of the non-removable battery in the smartphone case. They won't help you in any way if the processor in your smartphone stops running some Pokemon or other fancy app a couple of years later. They won't make a new version of Android run faster if it suddenly needs more RAM, support for a new version of the OpenGL/Vulkan standard for games, a sharper display for virtual reality, or a scanner of some new body part for electronic payments/online voting/access to VKontakte.

    Phones had connected cameras back in 2002, but no one called them modules

    In their current form, the modules resemble slightly more convenient-to-use toys that were fashionable to connect to phones at the dawn of digital cameras. Even the ancient “smart memory cards” of the SDIO standard made it possible to “screw on” support for GPS and phone calls on models without a built-in modem, FM radio, analogue television and a wired network connection! All this happened 14 years ago, and today, with new technologies, the imagination of engineers is enough for an external speaker and buttons for controlling the camera.

    From Wi-Fi to a fingerprint scanner - SDIO standard (expansion slot in the memory card housing)

    Let's hit the faces of pocket PC lovers with selfie sticks!

    Of course, it is not LG or Motorola who are to blame for this situation - even in the modular Google Ara smartphone (which is not yet a fact that it will be born), the processor, RAM and display cannot be replaced. A removable battery of different capacities is, sorry, not a module at all, so all improvements in the modular smartphone authored by the almighty Google will be limited to several camera options and support for outlandish sensors.

    Firstly, modular smartphones are expensive. Imagine Qualcomm or MediaTek, for which Samsung/TSMC churns out “regular” smartphone processors in large factories. Then these processors are scattered to various manufacturers - there are enough for both “basement” Chinese brands and famous mobile phone manufacturers. And then he comes to the creators of Lenovo chips and says: “We’ve decided to create phones suitable for upgrading - please release for us chipsets with such a plug.” Yes, processor manufacturers will laugh at Lenovo for such a proposal right in the annual financial report!

    The manufacturer of secure smartphones Nomu has been on the Chinese market for almost 10 years, but here it is just beginning to gain popularity. Not long ago we wrote about the release of three “heavyweights” at once - S10, S20, S30, and how the next rugged smartphone, called Nomu T18, is already being prepared.

    Design and protection

    It is difficult to buy a smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard in 2019. In fact, the production of such devices is exclusively carried out by the BlackBerry brand. The good news is that he makes them very high quality. Some of the models included in the best rating were released quite a long time ago, but even today they offer buyers good opportunities and are sold on various sites. Those users who are aimed at the most modern and relevant devices should immediately scroll through the list to the end - the last two gadgets were released in 2018 and nothing newer is on sale as of March 2019.

    If you go to a store that sells electronics, you will definitely pay attention to one fact. The vast majority of modern phones do not have a numeric or QWERTY keyboard. All of them are faceless in appearance, since most of the front panel is occupied by a touch screen. Where did the buttons go? Why have smartphones with push-button keyboards become so rare? It was impossible to imagine the first smart devices without a keyboard. For example, the Nokia 9210 Communicator was designed as a clamshell, with many physical buttons hidden inside it.

    And a little later, Nokia N-Gage and Siemens SX1 were released. These are very different smartphones, but they both had a certain number of keys. In the mid-2000s, PDAs and communicators with the number of buttons was reduced to a minimum began to appear on store shelves. They were controlled by pressing the stylus on different areas of the touch screen. But the real revolutionary in this area was Apple, which was the first to release a touchscreen smartphone, which is incredibly easy to master.

    Interestingly, the first Android devices were smartphones with a QWERTY keyboard. In particular, the first commercial model was the HTC Dream, which had a retractable block with keys. Devices of this type have been produced for several years. But later, almost all manufacturers abandoned this form factor. There are several reasons for this:

    • Google recommends (but does not mandate) that you keep the number of physical keys to a minimum.
    • Smartphones with a keypad are often large and heavy.
    • Such devices are less reliable.
    • Touch control is actually simpler than button control.

    BlackBerry Priv

    • Operating system: Android 5.1
    • CPU: Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 (6 cores, 1.8 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM
    • Display: 5.43 inches, AMOLED, 2560 x 1440 pixels

    Price: from 22,990 rub.

    In 2016, the blackberry company unexpectedly released a push-button smartphone on Android, forgetting about its own operating system. This worked to the advantage of BlackBerry Priv, since its customers can install a huge number of applications, while the Canadian operating system offers a very modest selection.

    The characteristics of the device are all right. The smartphone has a good processor and sufficient RAM. All this allows you to run even very heavy programs and games. At the same time, the keyboard does not interfere at all, since it is implemented on a retractable principle - most of the time you simply do not see it. A slider with a QWERTY keyboard is not only convenient, but also original.

    It should be noted that this is the last device from the Canadian brand, which was produced at the facilities of BlackBerry itself. Subsequently, the creation of smartphones under this brand was entrusted to the holders of the Alcatel trademark - TCL. The BlackBerry Priv only disappoints with its high price and plastic body. But we can easily come to terms with the second drawback, because it provided the device with at least some reasonable weight (192 grams).

    Advantages

    • High resolution AMOLED display.
    • 18-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture.
    • Convenient slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
    • LTE support.
    • Supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard.
    • Long battery life.

    Flaws

    • Old version of Android.
    • Some people will find it heavy.
    • Very high cost.

    BlackBerry Q10

    • Operating system: BlackBerry OS
    • CPU: Snapdragon S4 Plus (2 cores, 1.5 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM
    • Display: 3.1 inches, AMOLED, 720 x 720 pixels

    Price: from 12,990 rub.

    This smartphone is made in a traditional form factor. Its main difference from most modern monoblocks is the QWERTY keyboard present here. All buttons have a short but noticeable stroke, making text typed very quickly. It should also be noted that the build quality is high - usually the smartphone does not lose its presentation even after a year of use.

    The screen of such a device cannot be large. But the Canadians managed to significantly increase the resolution, thanks to which many controls and various information can be placed on the display. There is an NFC chip in the model, but within the operating system installed here it is practically useless. It is noteworthy that the device’s screen was created using AMOLED technology. Organic LEDs significantly save energy, as a result of which the device has to be charged once every one and a half to two days. You can only find fault with the operating system, which can now safely be called outdated.

    In 2019, the model will appeal to true fans of correspondence, which is much more convenient on a physical keyboard than on a touch-screen counterpart.

    Advantages

    • No noticeable pixelation.
    • Reliable data encryption.
    • Not a bad 8 megapixel camera.
    • Classic QWERTY keyboard.
    • Not the shortest operating time.

    Flaws

    • A limited operating system in many ways.
    • Weak filling.
    • High price.

    BlackBerry Passport

    • Operating system: BlackBerry OS
    • CPU: Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AA (4 cores, 2.2 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM
    • Display: 4.5 inches, IPS, 1440 x 1440 pixels

    Price: from 20,999 rub.

    This is a symbol of its era. The latest device built on the BlackBerry OS operating system. Its creators decided to abandon the now traditional design, maximizing the width of the device. As a result, they managed to endow the smartphone not only with a fairly comfortable QWERTY keyboard, but also with a screen that actually became classic - until 2019, BlackBerry stuck to a 4.5-inch matrix. One can only regret that AMOLED technology had to be abandoned. Because of this, the battery life did not become longer (although the battery capacity increased), and the color rendition became not so good.

    In fact, this is the best push-button smartphone based on BlackBerry OS. It contains good components, so the user does not experience any slowdowns, and all applications load almost instantly. The main camera, which has a 13-megapixel sensor and optical image stabilization, should also please. Well, support for LTE-A category four facilitates very fast data transfer. Finally, the metal body will maintain its perfect appearance for many years. It’s surprising that with all this, the device weighs no more than 196 grams.

    Advantages

    • Work in LTE-A networks.
    • Good display resolution.
    • Decent components.
    • Housing made of metal and plastic.
    • The main camera is complemented by an optical stabilizer.
    • Not the highest price.

    Flaws

    • Some buyers will find the weight too heavy.
    • The front camera is weak - 2 MP.

    BlackBerry Porsche design P’9983

    • operating roomsystem: BlackBerry OS
    • CPU: Qualcomm MSM8960 (2 cores, 1.5 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 2 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM
    • Display: 3.1 inches, 720 x 720 pixels

    Price: from 44,500 rub.

    Perhaps this is the most beautiful device with smartphone functions among those with a QWERTY keyboard. Although the device is far from new, it still has a large amount of memory. It is also impossible not to note the possibility of data transmission via LTE networks, which sometimes even modern devices do not have.

    The main camera is 8 megapixels. The resolution of the front camera was suddenly increased to 2 megapixels, which is quite unexpected for a Canadian company. Of course, such a camera cannot be used to take selfies, but video communication with its help is quite possible. It’s hard to imagine the owner of a BlackBerry Porsche design P’9983 who wouldn’t have enough of this. And if so, a microSD card slot will come to the rescue.

    Advantages

    • Stylish metal body.
    • LTE support.
    • Large amount of memory.

    Flaws

    • Not the longest operating time.
    • Outdated operating system.
    • Incredibly high cost.

    BlackBerry KEYone

    • Operating system: Android 7.1
    • CPU: Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 (8 cores, 2 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM
    • Display:

    Price: from 21,500 rubles.

    All of the above devices were released at a time when BlackBerry was an independent company. During the same period, the brand collaborated with TCL Mobile, providing them with its own services. The product of cooperation between the two companies was DTEK smartphones - clones of Alcatel, but with software from BlackBerry. In 2017, TCL Mobile finally bought BlackBerry and the KEYone model became its first product. What is noteworthy is that it was created even before the consolidation of assets, but appeared on sale after. Due to the absence of any current alternative (all of the above models are quite old), this device became a real gift for fans of smartphones with a QWERTY keyboard in 2017. There are few fans, but for their sake the devices continue to be released and the result is very interesting.

    Visually, the device was a return to classic phones with a keyboard. At the same time, the device is slightly larger than the now familiar touch devices. It has an impressive thickness of 9.4 mm, a heavy weight of 180 grams and an extremely interesting combination of materials. The side edge is aluminum. The back cover is plastic with a velvety surface and texture. This whole combination feels pleasant in the hands, and the user immediately understands that he is holding a serious gadget. The manufacturer tried to make a noticeable device, so all the elements here are large - the camera, logo, control buttons. Everything is catchy, but not pretentious.

    The model received a small display with sufficient resolution for its size. In terms of detail, it's good, but traditionally BlackBerry lacks brightness. Because of this, using the device in the sun is not very comfortable. The video is displayed more than well, despite the 3 to 2 ratio, but playing in landscape orientation is inconvenient. The reason here is that the keyboard is outweighed - holding the smartphone in this position for a long time is tiring.

    The 3505 mAh battery provides 2 days of operation under medium loads. If you use the gadget more actively, it will still last a day. This is a very good indicator. In addition, there is fast charging. The device received 3/32 GB of memory, the main drive is expandable up to 2 TB, a combination slot. The chipset is Snapdragon 625, not the most powerful, but it is quite enough for this smartphone. Cameras – 12 and 8 megapixels. They take good quality pictures and have all the modern features like facial enhancement and the like. Maximum video resolution is 4K. Of course, photography fans will not appreciate the device, but most users will like the result.

    The KEYone smartphone offers all proprietary software related to the protection of user data - BB Hub, Password Keeper and others. In fact, it is impossible to steal information from a BlackBerry. For many people in the modern world, this is a powerful argument. It is worth mentioning that the model received all modern wired and wireless interfaces - Type-C, WI-Fi ac. Regarding the keyboard, not everything is simple either. First of all, you can assign a quick call to a particular function to each button. At the same time, they support long and short presses. There are all the usual combinations - ctrl+c, ctrl+v and others to simplify working with text. The manufacturer did not forget about continuous input - you can swipe over the desired letters to form a word (analogous to a touch keyboard). The fingerprint scanner is hidden in the space button.

    Advantages:

    • Proprietary software.
    • A huge number of keyboard functions.
    • Decent camera.
    • Good performance considering positioning.
    • Protective glass – Gorilla Glass 4.
    • Excellent ergonomics.
    • High autonomy + fast charging.
    • There is NFC support.

    Flaws:

    • By 2019 standards, the main drive is small, and the slot is combined.
    • Insufficient screen brightness.
    • Inconvenient to play in landscape orientation.

    BlackBerry KEY 2

    • Operating system: Android 8.1
    • CPU: Snapdragon 660 SDM660 (8 cores, up to 2.2 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 6 GB RAM and 64/128 GB ROM
    • Display: 4.5 inches, IPS, 1620 x 1080 pixels

    Price: from 35,000 rubles.

    The Key 2 smartphone from BlackBerry has become the company's most powerful device. Compared to the KEYone, the device has changed visually and has also become more interesting in terms of hardware. In terms of materials, the manufacturer, as before, opted for 7000 series aluminum for the frame and unusual plastic with a rubberized surface for the back cover. Due to this, the phone turned out to be non-slippery, very comfortable in the hand and it is almost impossible to smear it. An interesting feature is related to the glass coating. The previous model used Gorilla Glass 4, in this case the 3rd generation was used. This is due to the fact that the device has small frames around the screen, which prevents it from being hit, and in addition, the weight has been shifted towards the keyboard. If the smartphone falls, it will hit the keyboard. At the same time, the 3rd generation of protective glass is more scratch-resistant. It turns out that it is almost impossible to break or scratch it - unless, of course, you do this purposefully with a direct blow. Another pleasant change is that the matrix has become brighter. The indicator is 550 nits, which is quite enough even in bright light. The company took into account the mistakes of past years and finally corrected the situation. The fingerprint scanner, as before, is hidden in the “space”.

    Battery – 3500 mAh with Quick Charge 3.0. The charge is enough for 2 days of work. As before, the device has all wireless interfaces - NFC, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0. The new product received a good 8 MP selfie camera, as well as a dual matrix on the back – 12+12 MP. Now the smartphone can do Bokeh and it turns out more than worthy. Another nice feature is Slo-mo shooting. It is worth noting that the camera is inferior to numerous competitors in the same price segment, but do not forget - first of all, the BlackBerry KEY 2 is a working tool. Given this positioning, there can be no complaints about the camera.

    In terms of performance, the phone turned out to be very thoughtful. We chose Snapdragon 660 as the processor and this is a tribute to the best combination of speed and autonomy. For the tasks for which the device is designed, it is quite sufficient. There is no point in discussing memory, everything is excellent here - 6 GB of RAM and a choice of 64 or 128 GB of ROM. Out of the box, the smartphone runs on Android 8.1, but the company promises an update to the next version 9.0. Naturally, all branded applications for optimization and safety during operation are present.

    Advantages:

    Flaws:

    • Considering the positioning, there are no downsides.

    BlackBerry KEY 2 LE

    • Operating system: Android 8.1
    • CPU: Snapdragon 636 (8 cores, up to 2 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM
    • Display: 4.5 inches, IPS, 1620 x 1080 pixels

    Price: from 26,900 rubles.

    BlackBerry KEY 2 LE came out a little later than its older brother KEY 2 and actually became its budget version. The model has received visual changes - in design and keyboard it is closer to the KEYone, but the smartphone is lighter. The frame is made of metal, the back panel is branded plastic, but with a new texture. The new product is distinguished by new colors - red, bronze and black. The frame and frets of the keyboard are painted in them. This looks really interesting.

    The new product runs on Snapdragon 636, which is an intermediate option between the chipsets of the first and second versions of the model. Memory – 4/64 GB. All this is quite enough for everyday work. The battery turned out to be the smallest - 3000 mAh, but at the same time it can easily withstand a working day. There is fast charging. The gadget was equipped with a dual camera – 13+5 megapixels with all the capabilities that the older modification has. The front module is 8 megapixels with flash. In terms of software options, the device completely replicates KEY 2. OS – Android 8.1 with an update to the next version.

    In fact, this device was released for those who are closer to the KEYone design, but need the capabilities of KEY 2. In addition, in comparison with the latter, the new product is better in price.

    Advantages:

    • Current OS with update to a newer version.
    • High quality cameras.
    • Decent performance.
    • Proprietary software.
    • Interesting body colors.
    • NFC support.

    Flaws:

    • Compared to previous models, the device is not as autonomous, but in general it will be enough for a day of work.

    Samsung Galaxy Y Pro

    • Operating system: Android 2.3
    • CPU: Broadcom BCM21553 (1 core, 832 MHz)
    • Memory capacity: 384 MB RAM and 160 MB ROM
    • Display: 2.6 inches, TFT, 240 x 320 pixels

    Price: less than 7000 rub.

    At one time, push-button Android smartphones were produced by many large companies. A good example of this is the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro. It's a pity that the South Koreans never produced a successor to this model. Now it is quite outdated - applications for Android 2.3 are almost no longer developed. But if you have recently used a QWERTY smartphone from Nokia based on Symbian, then the South Korean product may well suit you.

    The device with a quarter keyboard for Android turned out to be very light - its weight does not exceed 108 grams. The keys are pressed clearly, their mechanism is made according to the traditional system - they should withstand at least a couple of years of active use. As for wireless networks, there is support for 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Only the minimum amount of RAM can confuse you, which makes using some services very difficult. And the screen could have been installed better, because the TFT matrix is famous for its minimal viewing angles.

    Advantages

    • Minimum weight;
    • Comfortable keyboard;
    • Not the largest sizes;
    • Optimal price tag.

    Flaws

    • Old version of the operating system;
    • Weak components;
    • Camera resolution is only 3.2 megapixels;
    • Simple display.

    Price: 10,000 rub.

    This device not only has a QWERTY keyboard, but also a protected case. Practice shows that it is impossible to use it constantly to type a large number of texts. But such a device performs well in field conditions. The creators also assume that their creation will be used when traveling and at work under the most severe conditions of use. It is possible to break Runbo X3, but with incredible difficulty. The device does not have the worst components.

    Most of all, the buyer should be pleased with the camera, which has an 8-megapixel resolution. And the LED flash will not only help make the photo brighter, but also allow you to find something lost in the bushes. There is also a front-facing camera, but its resolution is so low that it is better to forget about its existence. As for wireless modules, the device assumes its use in 3G networks. There is also a stably functioning navigation module that interacts with GPS satellites. If you haven't gone very far from urban areas, you can listen to FM radio. The smartphone is also capable of operating in walkie-talkie mode using the PTT Walkie Talkie 5km 400-470 MHz module.

    Advantages

    • Decent components;
    • Protection from moisture and shock;
    • Not a bad main camera;
    • Small but clear display;
    • Built-in walkie-talkie.

    Flaws

    • The keyboard cannot be called very comfortable;
    • Heavy weight (245 grams);
    • The operating time could have been longer.

    DELL Venue Pro

    • Operating system: Windows Phone 7
    • CPU: Qualcomm QSD8250 (1 core, 1 GHz)
    • Memory capacity: 512 MB RAM and 8 GB ROM
    • Display: 4.1 inches, AMOLED, 480 x 800 pixels

    Price: 28,000 rub.

    When listing smartphone manufacturers, you probably won’t remember DELL. This company works closely with Microsoft, creating quite good laptops and all-in-one PCs. From time to time this manufacturer indulges in experiments. One of them resulted in the birth of DELL Venue Pro.

    This is a slider running the seventh version of the mobile operating system from Microsoft. As usual, it does not consume resources, and therefore we recommend not paying attention to weak components. Although I would like more permanent memory, because there is no slot for microSD here. This smartphone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard cannot boast of a very high display resolution. But it is not so low that the pixelation is clearly noticeable. You can buy a smartphone with a push-button keyboard just to type a lot of text. The operating system contributes to this - it interacts perfectly with Word and Excel. But in other respects, it loses to Android, since the number of applications developed for it is very limited. It is also impossible not to note the weak camera by today’s standards and the very decent weight of the device, equal to 192 grams.

    Advantages

    • An original form factor by modern standards;
    • Well-implemented work with text documents;
    • Braking is extremely rare;
    • Pleasant to the touch plastic.

    Flaws

    • Inability to insert a memory card;
    • Non-Russian physical keyboard;
    • No LTE support;
    • Inadequate cost;
    • The simplest 5 megapixel camera;
    • Some buyers find it too heavy.

    Anyone who professionally engages in mobile photography or shoots videos for YouTube using mobile devices sooner or later is faced with the fact that the standard photo capabilities of a smartphone at a certain point are no longer enough.

    Solving this problem is quite simple. Want to compensate for shake when recording video? Take an electronic stabilizer, of which there are a great many on the market now. Can't capture a distant object without affecting the quality? It is worth purchasing an external zoom lens that allows you to shoot with 2x (or more) optical magnification. A monopod will also come in handy, which will help you out if you want to take a selfie with a large group of friends.

    There are actually a lot of similar things that allow you to expand the functionality of your device in terms of photos and videos, and we have collected the most popular of them in our selection today.

    Stabilizers

    Every year, cameras in smartphones become more advanced. They have many interesting features that were previously found only in full-fledged mid- and high-class cameras. An example is optical image stabilization (OIS), which has become an integral part of flagship smartphones. This technology allows you to achieve impressive results both when recording dynamic videos and when shooting photos in difficult conditions. But what if your device is not as perfect as you would like? In this situation, external electronic stabilizers come to the rescue, the most prominent representatives of which you can find below.

    Feiyu Tech SPG

    The SPG model is one of the most popular steadicams from the Chinese company Feiyu Tech, a world-famous manufacturer of electronic stabilizers for smartphones and cameras.

    First of all, Feiyu Tech SPG is notable for its versatility. You can use it in conjunction with iPhone (starting with iPhone 5), and with Android devices that fit the mount size, and with GoPro action cameras. The design of this stabilizer is as reliable as possible - the main part is made of durable metal, and the handle is rubberized, which does not allow the accessory to slip out of your hands. From a technical point of view, everything is also in order - three-axis stabilization, Bluetooth connection, there are navigation buttons and a joystick for control, and the battery lasts for 6–8 hours of continuous operation. In addition, there is a thread on the bottom and side of the Feiyu Tech SPG that allows you to attach the stabilizer to any tripod.

    Aibird Uoplay 2

    The second generation Uoplay Steadicam from the Chinese company Aibird stands out for its good price-to-feature ratio. The average cost of a stabilizer on AliExpress is 14 thousand rubles. For this money you get a completely professional tool that will make your life much easier when recording blogs, reports or sporting events.

    Like the Feiyu Tech SPG, the device from Aibird provides stabilization in all three planes, and the connection is made via Bluetooth through a special application that can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. There are several operating modes - semi-automatic, with maintaining position relative to the horizon; automatic, with smooth movement of the smartphone in all directions; locked, in which the device will look exclusively straight during any vibrations. All controls are located on the handle, which is convenient. There is even an additional joystick that allows you to zoom the image. One of the interesting features is that the steadicam operates in external battery mode, for which an additional micro USB port is provided on the top, allowing the smartphone to be recharged from the Uoplay 2 battery.

    DJI Osmo Mobile

    The world's most famous drone manufacturer, the Chinese company DJI, is undoubtedly a trendsetter in the field of stabilization. The brand’s arsenal includes a huge number of all kinds of accessories and gadgets for photography, from tripods and monopods to drones of all sizes. DJI's portfolio also includes stabilizers, which make handheld video shooting much easier.

    The most interesting and most affordable of them can be considered Osmo Mobile - a special version of the original Osmo, in which the camera is replaced with a mount for a smartphone. In this case, there are several advantages: the cost of an accessory without a camera has decreased significantly, in addition, you can always change the camera (in this case, a smartphone) to a more advanced one without having to overpay for a new gimbal. As for Osmo Mobile itself, it is a three-axis stabilizer that can work with iPhone (5 and above) and Android smartphones via Bluetooth. All settings are made through the proprietary DJI GO application. There you can also select the operating mode you need. The settings also include an Active Track option - a tracking system that monitors all your movements and forces the smartphone camera to follow you exactly.

    Lenses

    Today, for a photographer, it is no longer enough to simply capture an interesting moment - you need to try to make the photo as original as possible and unlike a dozen others. Often, to do this, they resort to the help of various third-party applications and editors, apply filters to the captured frames, and experiment with saturation and brightness.

    But there is another way to turn an ordinary photo into a “small masterpiece”. We are talking about so-called external lenses, which in certain situations can give a photograph a special personality. Additional optics for a smartphone are divided into four main categories - macro (shooting miniature objects with attention to detail), fisheye (maximum coverage in small spaces), wide angle (useful for shooting panoramas and landscapes with a wide viewing angle), and also zoom (optical magnification several times).

    Versatile Apexel Lenses

    One of the most affordable amateur lenses, whose cost starts from literally a couple of hundred rubles. You can find optics for every taste in the Apexel catalog. Macro lenses, wide-angle lenses, fisheyes, polarizing filters to reduce reflected light, and telephotos with 8-12x magnification - they're all in abundance. Moreover, AliExpress also has special kits that already include the entire set of necessary optics. Such a miracle costs approximately 1000 rubles, but if you need just one thing, then there is no point in overpaying. All lenses are universal and suitable for almost any smartphone, be it iPhone or Android devices. Fastening is carried out using a clip-clip, but some optics are designed to be used in conjunction with a special case equipped with a thread for the lens. Most often, such cases are found on Apple devices and top representatives of the Samsung Galaxy line.

    You can also look for a lens from Apexel with an equivalent focal length of 85mm for shooting portraits: high-quality optics and a metal body - a real lens, albeit for a smartphone.

    Manfrotto lenses

    Founded in the late 60s of the last century, the Italian company Manfrotto has long established itself as a leading manufacturer of accessories necessary for professional photography and video shooting. Since 2013, the company has acquired the first photographic equipment for Apple smartphones, including a special case for installing additional light and a tripod.

    Now the line of Apple accessories also includes external lenses. By visiting the company's official website, you can find optics for almost any purpose. Fisheye allows you to create hemispherical images, Telephoto 1.5x/3x are great for sharp and more detailed shots and portraits, Macro ideally magnifies objects, and Super Wide Angle and Polarizer are indispensable when shooting outdoors, as they capture a larger area and reduce glare. All optics are made of high-quality materials - aluminum base and three-layer glass. The only limitation is that to work with optics you need a proprietary Manfrotto iPhone case, into which the lens is screwed.

    Olloclip lenses

    Unlike Manfrotto, the US company Olloclip, no less famous in mobile photography circles, boasts external lenses that are already adapted out of the box for mounting on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

    Optics for “sevens” are divided into four sets: Core Lens, Active Lens, Macro Pro Lens and Vista Lens. Each of them includes a universal attachment suitable for both iPhone 7 and Plus versions, as well as its own set of unique lenses. The first contains a spherical, wide-angle and macro lens (15x), the second includes a wide-angle and telephoto lens with 2x magnification, the third set is equipped with three “glasses” with 7-, 14- and 21x zoom, turning the smartphone into a real microscope, and the final one The kit, in addition to a two-time telephoto lens, also includes a lens with a viewing angle of 120 degrees. The cost of the sets is rather high - from 80 to 120 dollars.

    ExoLens ZEISS Lenses from Fellowes

    Perhaps the most interesting lenses for mobile devices in our selection are solutions from Fellowes, which, together with the German photo giant ZEISS, has released a line of professional optics, ExoLens. It is intended for installation on Apple smartphones (iPhone 6 and higher).

    As befits all products produced under the ZEISS brand, ExoLens lenses are made to a high level. The accessory housings are made of durable anodized aluminum, and the lenses have a proprietary T* coating, which increases light transmission and reduces the influence of solar glare. You can install all three lenses (macro, with a focal length of 40-80 mm, wide-angle (165°) and 2x telephoto) in several ways: on a special aluminum frame; using an attachment similar to the solution from Olloclip; by purchasing a case with a threaded hole for optics. Note that the frame is also equipped with an additional connector (1/4”) for mounting the entire structure on a tripod.

    On-camera light

    Taking photos or videos in poorly lit rooms, as well as in the dark, is almost impossible without an additional light source. In some situations, the standard flash of a mobile device is sufficient, but its power may not be enough. In this case, an external LED lamp for your smartphone will be an excellent choice, which will help you create the necessary level of illumination and give the photo more depth.

    LED lamps from Manfrotto

    The Italian company Manfrotto produces not only high-quality tripods and lenses for mobile devices, but also external LED lights. Almost any mobilographer will be able to choose the most optimal option for himself, regardless of which smartphone he shoots with - iPhone or Android.

    For Apple smartphones, the Manfrotto collection has a pretty good SMT lamp. It provides illumination of 225 lumens with a dispersion angle of 60 degrees. In addition, the lamp is equipped with a standard mount to a special case, which is necessary to be able to attach the lamp to the device.

    For Android devices, Manfrotto does not have proprietary cases for SMT lamps, but there is a universal TwistGrip clamp. You can attach a more powerful light from the Lumimuse series to it, available in models with 3, 6 and 8 diodes. All Lumimuse lamps are equipped with a system for attaching additional filters, with which you can change the temperature of the light and diffuse it.

    Tripods and monopods

    Monopods and tripods are an indispensable item in a mobile photographer's arsenal. With the help of the first, so-called selfie sticks, you can easily take a photo of yourself with friends. This thing will be especially useful for those whose smartphone does not have a wide-angle front camera, and it is simply necessary to place as many people in one frame as possible.

    As for tripods, they help out if you need to firmly fix your smartphone on a flat surface. In this case, you can completely get rid of the jitter effect and get a clear frame without blur.

    The ultimate solution would be to purchase a tripod - a special accessory that combines both a monopod and a compact tabletop tripod at the same time.

    MEIZU BT-01

    A myriad of different selfie sticks are sold on various online platforms. But, as a rule, the vast majority of them are third-rate slag, produced by noname manufacturers in a far from best way. But, if you want, you can find good options from leading Chinese companies. For example, MEIZU BT-01 is a monopod-tripod for iOS and Android devices, characterized by a high level of performance (rubberized handle and smartphone mount with soft-touch coating, as well as a telescopic tube made of durable aluminum) and wireless connection via Bluetooth. Like any tripod, MEIZU BT-01 has a tripod built into the handle, which allows you to use the stick as a mini-tripod for long-exposure photography. A bonus is a removable control button, which will help out when shooting in tripod mode at a remote distance.

    Huawei AF15

    As an alternative to the MEIZU BT-01, you can offer an analogue from Huawei - the AF15 monopod-tripod. In fact, this model almost completely replicates the competitor’s solutions, which is more of a plus than a minus. The design, like that of the MEIZU BT-01, is reliable enough for use in active mode (for example, the removable button lasts up to 30 thousand clicks), a 660 mm long telescopic tube helps you take great group photos, and wireless connection via Bluetooth 3.0 technology allows you to quickly connect accessory for any device running Android (4.3+) or iOS (5.1+). Of course, since this is a tripod, the tripod integrated into the handle is still there.

    Manfrotto PIXI and PIXI EVO

    PIXI and PIXI EVO are one of the most popular mini tripods not only for mobile devices, but also for cameras. The production of these crumbs is carried out by the Italian brand Manfrotto, which specializes in the production of various premium quality photo accessories.

    First of all, the good thing about both tripods is that they can be used not only to hold smartphones (using the included 1/4’’ threaded clamp), but also as a support for entry-level DSLR cameras. The main thing is that their weight does not exceed 650 and 750 g (for PIXI and PIXI EVO, respectively), and the maximum focal length is 85 and 200 mm for the younger and older versions. Additionally, we note that tripods have dual functionality: they can be used not only for their intended purpose, but also as a convenient handle for shooting videos, photographs and selfies. PIXI EVO also differs from the regular PIXI in that it is equipped with legs that are adjustable in five positions for uneven surfaces, and the “head” rotates 90 degrees.

    Surely everyone loves to take pictures and shoot videos on a mobile phone. On modern smartphones, the rear cameras allow you to take pretty good photographs, and the front ones are a favorite among fans of self-portrait photography (the so-called selfie). Today, in Chinese online stores you can find a huge number of different gadgets that improve the quality of photo and video shooting, make it more convenient when taking photographs from certain devices, etc. We decided to conduct research and find out what useful and relatively inexpensive items are available in Chinese online stores for photo and video shooting with mobile phones. All goods are delivered at the seller's expense, that is, they have free shipping.

    Gopro Xiaomi Steadicam Stabilizer

    The stabilizer allows you to compensate for camera shake. You've probably noticed how the image shakes when shooting video while moving. For example, if you shoot while walking, then every step will be reflected in the video - the frame will jump. The stabilizer allows you to make shooting smoother, without sharp transitions. The kit of this stabilizer includes both a mount for a regular camera and for an iPhone. There are also three weights with which you can adjust the movement of a smartphone or camera on the stabilizer. One of the disadvantages of this gadget is its rather heavy weight - 950 grams. Carrying such a “bandura” in one hand for a long time will be very problematic. Also, those who already use this gadget note that a lot of time is spent adjusting the counterweights.

    Fisheye Lens

    This gadget has removable attachments that allow you to shoot in macro mode, wide-angle shooting and fish-eye lens. It is attached using a special clamp directly to the smartphone body. Moreover, smartphones can be from different manufacturers: iPhone, Sony, Microsoft (old Nokia) and others. The Wide Angle Lens allows you to capture significantly more subjects from the same photographic distance. Particularly useful for panoramic nature photography. The Macro lens attachment improves the detail of the photographed object during macro photography (although this is barely noticeable from the seller’s photo). Of particular interest in this gadget is the Fisheye attachment. This is an ultra-wide-angle lens with an image angle of 180 degrees or more. When photographing, a strong distortion of perspective occurs, which produces an image in the form of a circle in which the background appears further away than it actually is. This lens is more of a toy than real high-quality optics. But for three and a half dollars you can’t expect more from him.

    Lens with tripod for iPhone

    This is an 8x zoom lens for iPhone mobile devices. The phone is inserted into a special holder and attached to a tripod. In principle, you can shoot without a tripod, since the lens weighs only 46 grams, but when shooting video, the image may shake a little. The minimum image focusing distance is 3 meters, that is, when photographing at a distance of less than 3 meters, it is better to remove the lens. The 8x zoom allows you to take photographs at some distance from the subject, and even use the lens as a monocular. However, it is worth noting that at a great distance you will not be able to clearly see objects, so just watch passers-by from the window (and only if you do not live in some skyscraper). For eight and a penny dollars, this gadget allows you to get pretty good pictures of objects located at some distance from the photographer.

    Price: 8,18$

    Car endoscope

    This gadget, of course, is not designed for photographing birds and butterflies, and you won’t use it to take a cool selfie from a nightclub, but it is a very useful device. The endoscope is designed to obtain images of objects located in hard-to-reach places. For example, you can use it to find out what is broken and requires repair under the hood of a car, where it is really difficult to get to without removing the engine and other parts. Or, for example, find an object that has rolled under a closet or bed. The endoscope is connected to a mobile device, which then displays the image obtained from the endoscope. This endoscope is only compatible with devices running Android 4.0 or higher. The endoscope camera with a diameter of 7 mm, according to the manufacturer’s description, allows you to shoot video in a resolution of 640x480, as well as take photographs. There are 6 LEDs around the camera, which provide good illumination in dark places. The cord itself is 2 meters long, which should be enough to reach hard-to-reach places. The description notes that the endoscope is waterproof and could theoretically work underwater, but we have not tested this. The device can be useful for those who repair cars or often repair their own. Otherwise, there is no point in buying “just to play around”.

    Price: 6,85$

    Lens case for iPhone 6 and 6 plus

    The case for iPhone 6 and 6 plus connects to the device via Bluetooth, and then photos are taken with one press of the case's red button. The case can be attached to the fisheye, macro and wide-angle lenses discussed earlier. It also protects the device from dust and dirt (it will not protect from water, so dropping it into the toilet or other water-filled containers is not recommended). Its cost is thirteen and a half dollars. For an additional price, you can also purchase the above lenses in one set with a case, but if you do the math, it is still more profitable to buy lenses separately.

    Price: 13,30$

    Qlippie wearable camera

    The Qlippie wearable camera is equipped with 8-megapixel wide-angle 122-degree optics, capable of taking high-quality photographs and recording videos in HD and Full HD formats. It has small dimensions of 4.8x4.8x1.5 cm and weighs only 40 grams. You can attach it to your clothes using a clip, and thanks to different colors, you can choose what suits your specific wardrobe. The internal memory capacity is 32GB, and the footage can be transferred to other mobile and computer devices using the built-in WiFi module. This gadget can be useful for those who travel frequently, since you can set the 30-second photo mode, and every 30 seconds a photo will be taken of the place where the person is at a given period of time. Then, having collected all the photos together, you can create a photo report of your visits. According to the manufacturer, up to 5,000 such photos can be taken, and video in HD format can be shot for up to 12 hours. However, a 1000 mAh battery will last less than three hours of HD shooting, so it cannot shoot for 12 hours continuously. You can also transfer data to your computer using the USB cable that comes with the camera.

    Price: 129,69$

    Monopod for self-portrait photography

    Due to the growing number of fans of self-portrait photography (the so-called selfie), it became necessary to consider a monopod. This is a device familiar to many smartphone owners, which allows you to take photographs of yourself and your friends at arm’s length. This monopod has a telescopic structure (like, in principle, any other monopods) and can be extended to a length of 78 cm. When folded, it is 18 cm. The photo in the store shows how this monopod fits in a person’s pocket, “a little “looking out of it, but in practice, carrying this “thing” in your trouser pocket is very inconvenient. The monopod is suitable for any device that has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and runs Android 4.2 and higher, as well as iOS 5.0 and higher. The monopod costs less than five dollars.

    Price: 4,6$

    Selfie remote

    To create self-portrait photos, you can, in principle, do without a monopod. To do this, just install your phone in some place, connect a remote control that works via Bluetooth 3.0 to it, and take a photo of yourself and your loved ones by simply pressing the remote control button. Although, of course, ideally, the remote control will not replace a monopod, since the smartphone will still have to be “attached” somewhere to take a photo. It only allows you to take a photo at a distance without direct contact with the smartphone. You shouldn't expect more for that kind of money. It is compatible with devices running Android and iOS OS. Powered by a regular battery, similar to those found in wristwatches.

    Price: 3,9$

    Lens for iPhone 6 with tripod

    This lens is suitable exclusively for iPhone 6 and 6 plus (as stated by the manufacturer, but you can try it with other devices). This is a 20x wide-angle lens that can significantly improve the quality of shooting on a smartphone camera. A convenient tripod is included for image stabilization. You can photograph objects at 20x zoom, for example, at a great distance from the object itself. This way you can take pictures or shoot videos of nature, take high-quality pictures at music and other concerts, etc. Someone will say: “Why do I need this lens, if it’s really better to shoot with a cool SLR camera, because the photos will be much better.” And this, in principle, will be a correct statement, but it is worth paying attention to one important point. A good lens for a digital camera (let’s assume you have a DSLR and don’t need to buy it) costs $500 or more, but this lens for an iPhone 6 costs $59.99 - the difference is noticeable. Therefore, if a person has already spent $800 (or maybe more) on the purchase of an iPhone and does not intend to part with a similar amount again, then such a lens can be a good help for photographing with a smartphone.

    Price: 59,99$

    Lens case for underwater photography

    For lovers of underwater photography, the Chinese have come up with a gadget that allows you to take photographs on the iPhone 6 without damaging the device by water. However, this is not just a waterproof case for a smartphone, since a photo taken with an iPhone camera through it would turn out blurry. It has a built-in wide-angle lens with an angle of 170 degrees, allowing you to take clear pictures of objects under water. The device is equipped with a special tripod, with which you can attach a “dressed” iPhone to an underwater mask. Thus, while swimming underwater, you can shoot video or photograph the underwater world with its many inhabitants. On the side of the case there are two aluminum buttons (not corroded by salt water), with the help of which photographs are actually taken. This underwater gadget costs just under thirty dollars in an online store.
