When is the best time to go up to various observation platforms? That's right, in clear and sunny weather. But this is not about me, as in the situation with, I was unlucky. On the first day of our arrival the weather was excellent, but I slept all day after a long and sleepless journey. And imagine my surprise that the remaining 3 days it rained and the city was covered in a haze of clouds.

Next to the tower grows a tall and thick tree that is almost a hundred years old. When Menara was built, local residents did not allow it to be cut down, and now it grows nearby, and the Bukit Nanas park has been built around it.

Menara(Menara Kuala Lumpur or Menara KL Tower) is a television tower 421 meters high, considered the 4th tallest in the world among similar towers, according to the builders themselves. True, their opinion differs from Wikipedia, due to the fact that progress does not stand still, and higher towers were built, and in reality it is now the 6th tallest in the world.

However, what is important for me is not so much the height of the Menara Tower itself, but the height of its observation deck, and here Menara will be in one of the first places, at least definitely higher than the Ostankino Tower.

A little upset because of the bad weather, I still climbed the Menara tower. I steadfastly waited for the rain to end, sitting in a cafe at the foot of the mountain and devouring the food I had brought with me, but it never came. The rain was not visible at the top, but the entire horizon turned out to be shrouded in white fog, which is a pity because there is a chain of mountains there.

Nevertheless, I did not regret the time and money spent, because my element is air, and I love all kinds of heights. I found myself taller than all the skyscrapers in the area, except perhaps (Petronas).

At the entrance to the Menara observation deck, everyone is given a media player with a screen and headphones, with which a virtual guide will give you a tour in Russian! There are other languages, if after long wanderings you have already forgotten how to perceive Russian speech. There is only one difficulty here - at the same time taking pictures, listening and finding the narrated sights of Kuala Lumpur outside the window is quite difficult.

I was also pleased that at almost every checkpoint (observation point of the excursion) there are free binoculars, and you can see what the boss is doing with his secretary in the nearest skyscraper.

Cultural Village

In addition to the observation deck, the ticket comes with a choice of add-on: Cultural Village or Animal zone + slot machine F1 + pony ride. My choice fell on the village, because I’m “smart”, and it was the right time to walk in the open air.

What pleased me most was the bamboo house. Twenty years ago I could only dream of this, building huts in trees with other boys.

After exploring all the huts and finally getting wet, the caring village staff offered me an umbrella. Just in time.

Bukit Nanas

If you have time, also visit Bukit Nanas Park, which is located at the foot of the tower. The entrance to it is difficult to find, and it’s easier to ask. For reference, the passage between the small gray building and the entrance to the Animal Zone leads directly to the entrance to the park.

Bukit Nanas is a corner of the local jungle in the city center, where you can get a little insight into the local flora without leaving the metropolis. It is small and starts with hanging bridges. For a moment it seems that you have stepped into the past or into the film “A Sound of Thunder” based on the story of the same name by Ray Bradbury.

Please note that it closes at 6 pm. Apparently they close it until dark on purpose.

— Cost of climbing the tower: 45 RM (450 rubles) per adult, and 35 RM (350 rubles) per child.
— The nearest metro station is KLCC, and the nearest monorail station is Dong. Then walk for 10-15 minutes. It's not difficult on the map.
— From the entrance to the Menara Tower, a minibus runs all the way to the barrier, located 500 meters away. If the time coincides, then you can go, but you shouldn’t wait for it on purpose.
— A taxi from the base of the tower costs 20RM to the KLCC metro station. From the barrier, a taxi costs RM15 to the KLCC metro station. And if you walk another 100 meters, where the main road is, then according to the meter you can get there for 4 RM.

Another interesting thing is the construction of a glass bridge that connects the towers to each other at a height of 41-42 floors. This bridge is not only practical, but also symbolic. On the one hand, thanks to it, people can move freely between skyscrapers. The Twin Towers appeared on Russian movie screens in the film “Apocalypse Code.” According to the script, the heroine of Anastasia Zavorotnyuk jumped from one of the towers with a parachute. The stunt was performed by the actress' stunt double. The bad luck was that during the jump, a power line was hit and torn down, which is why the whole block was left without power for some time.

Even earlier, skyscrapers appeared in the film “The Trap,” whose main characters dashingly flew from one building to another on peculiar “ropes.”

In 1997, the famous French climber "Spiderman" tried to conquer one of the towers by climbing along it. However, he only managed to reach the 60th floor, where the police arrested him. The unpleasant incident did not stop the daredevil, and 10 years later he tried to repeat his ascent, choosing the second tower. However, ironically, the police caught up with him, and again on the same floor.

The gaming industry also couldn't ignore famous skyscrapers: the Petronas Towers appear in three levels of the popular computer game Hitman 2: The Silent Assassin.
