• What brand of processor does the iphone se have? First look at the iPhone SE. What processor is in the iPhone SE

Finally, Apple released a new smaller iPhone model, and it seems to be less of a compromise than the iPhone 5c. Prices for iPhone SE start at RUB 37,990. (and it's inexpensive compared to other iPhones), the phone feels like a 5s, and has almost the same hardware as a 6s. Everything seems to be simple. However, when it comes to choosing and purchasing a phone, you need to take into account a bunch of parameters, characteristics and features in order to understand whether a particular model actually meets your expectations. Let's see what the iPhone SE is like.

    1. The most powerful 4-inch smartphone

Over the past couple of years, we, perhaps, have not seen truly interesting compact smartphones. Sony released several models, but they were not good enough - they were always compromises.

The SE doesn't look like a compromise. It inherited almost all of its components from the current flagship, iPhone 6s: A9 processor, 2 GB RAM, Apple Pay, amazing 12MP camera, 4K videos, live photos and much more. The hardware performance of the iPhone SE should not raise any doubts.

For the first time in two years, a four-inch phone doesn't leave the impression that it's missing something. After all, SE is a Special Edition!

    2. This is the beloved iPhone 5s

Compared to the curved and flowing shapes of the iPhone 6 and 6s, the design of the iPhone 5s was sharper, boxier and more angular. And even after two and a half years, it doesn't seem outdated. Fans of this model would even call it a classic. In addition, you can easily put this phone in your pocket or hold it with one hand!

SE looks almost like 5s. The only difference is that the edge of the phone is matte rather than shiny. Additionally, the Apple logo on the back is designed to match the color of the phone. Oh, and there's also a color scheme available. Rose Gold.

    3. Slight differences

Everyone tends to compare the iPhone SE to the 6s rather than the 5s due to its similar configuration. But this is not quite a 6s in a smaller body, there are some minor differences.

For example, SE has a sensor First generation Touch ID just like the iPhone 5s. The difference seems small, but only until you try the iPhone 6s. Touch ID 2 is insanely fast, almost too fast. After the 6s came out, people complained that they couldn't unlock the phone by pressing the home button: the phone detected their fingers before they could press it.

SE doesn't 3D Touch. It's a pity, of course, but you shouldn't grieve too much about it. I think most of us can live without 3D Touch.

What is really regrettable is that the front camera only has a resolution 1.2 megapixels, while on 6s - all 5 MP. The difference, of course, is sensitive. You can take very high-quality pictures with the front camera of the 6s, but hardly with the front camera of the SE. On the other hand, there is technology Retina Flash, which is nice.

Besides this, there are many more pleasant things about SE.

    4. All modern goodies

People appreciated the 6s hardware not because of its performance, but because it implemented features that greatly improved the interaction with the iPhone. Firstly, Apple Pay. Secondly, the “eternal” function “Hey Siri.” Finally, M9 co-processor in the background, it tracks a bunch of different information: how many steps you took, how many flights of stairs you climbed, and so on. All this is available in the iPhone SE.

    5. Lasts longer than 5s

Good news for those looking to upgrade from the 5s or earlier: The SE's battery lasts a long time. On paper, the increase in operating time of the iPhone SE compared to the 5s is 50%.

The following table contains battery life data for the latest iPhone models.

A Wall Street Journal stress test shows that it's actually better:

“In a lab stress test of sequential web browsing at a constant screen brightness level, the SE lasted 10 hours—a result that beats the iPhone 6s and 5s by more than two hours and the Galaxy S7 by about three hours.”

It will take you about two weeks to find out the actual battery life. However, the first reviews show such excellent results. It seems that with a moderate load the phone should work quietly all day.

    6. Memory capacity

SE starts at 37,900 rubles for the 16 GB model. The memory capacity is not the most impressive, but for the money it is quite reasonable. If you need more, a model with 64 GB of memory costs ten thousand rubles more.

    7. Top smartphone for reasonable money

This phone may not be for you. It's hard to imagine any fan of flagship models and phablets switching from the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus to a 4-inch smartphone. This is simply wrong. The keyboard will be terribly inconvenient for him, he will have to scroll much more often, and he will need to view different media content in a completely different way.

But the price of 38 thousand, which in a couple of months will also drop to 30 thousand, makes this phone accessible to a large number of people. With this pricing policy, Apple is expanding the market for top-end smartphones and lowering its price level a little lower.

This was done mainly for markets such as China and India. This is where Apple plans to use this model to expand its presence and lure people from Android to iPhone.

    8. Reviews from critics

The Verge's Lauren Goode writes: "For people who want a small or inexpensive iPhone, the iPhone SE will do just fine."

Nicole Nguyen, a BuzzFeed columnist, has a similar sentiment: “This is a great, fast smartphone for those who believe bigger isn't always cooler.”

That's it. If you want a compact smartphone, get the SE. If you need an inexpensive iPhone, get the SE. It is the best at what it is designed for.

If that's not enough, just buy an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus.

Not only may the processor size be different in different batches of iPhone 6s, but these chips also differ in energy efficiency.

Quite recently it became known that in and the manufacturer installs - from and, regardless of the smartphone model. Now it turns out that these chips work differently.

Processors from Samsung and TSMC differ from each other in size and manufacturing process. Naturally, the question arises: in what proportions are these chips used in the new Apple smartphone? It is especially relevant against the backdrop of recent news. Initially, data appeared that the processor ratio was approximately 60/40 in favor of TSMC. However, more recent information shows an almost even distribution of the two A9 models between the iPhone 6s.

Further delving into the topic, there is a desire to find out about the differences between the chips - is there a difference or can you, in principle, calm down and not bother yourself with unnecessary things? It turned out that according to the results of tests on the energy efficiency of the processor, the product from Samsung consumes battery power faster than the analogue from TSMC. Of course, these data so far come from few sources, and it cannot be said that they are statistically reliable. Nevertheless, such tests attract the attention of an increasing number of users and become the topic of their discussions on specialized forums.

Probably the most revealing results were provided by one of the network users Reddit, who compared the performance of two iPhone 6s Plus with different A9 processors on board using the Geekbench 3 test [download from the App Store]. According to its results, a smartphone with a TSMC chip lasted two hours longer than an iPhone with a Samsung A9 on board.

iPhone 6s Plus battery life test using Geekbench: TSMC processor on the left and Samsung processor on the right

I ran these tests a couple of times and the results were the same. The difference in work was two hours. I tested both phones using the same processes, with the same amount of memory filled and with the same settings. I also tried to compare their operating time on “clean” iPhones [after resetting all settings and deleting content], the result was unchanged.
Reddit user on testing iPhone 6s Plus using Geekbench 3

MacRumors editors asked John Poole from Prime Labs, test developer, comment on the results of the analysis. He noted that Samsung and TSMC use different chip production processes. In the case of Samsung's A9, we are dealing with a 14nm process, while TSMC uses a 16nm process to create the A9 chip. However, the difference in battery life in the described cases still surprised the engineer. After all, these processors still have similar performance indicators. For a more accurate analysis and understanding of the reasons for the differences between processors from TSMC and Samsung, you will have to test them more carefully and meticulously.

Results of tests conducted using a Chinese site MyDrivers(they are also published on Reddit) characterize the performance of identical smartphones with different processors when launching browsers (JavaScript) and when playing videos. As with Geekbench 3, test results on MyDrivers showed that the iPhone 6s with Samsung's A9 chip drains faster. But a test using the AnTuTu application showed that due to the Samsung processor, the smartphone also heats up several degrees more.

TSMC iPhone 6s (left) and Samsung iPhone 6s (right); according to the results of 12 tests, the battery charge of the first is 77% versus the charge of the second at 71%

Based on the results of such tests, we can draw a general conclusion that the A9 processors produced by TSMC are still somewhat superior to a similar product from Samsung. However, to officially confirm this, we need to conduct many more different tests examining the real performance of the chips themselves and the iPhones in which they are used.

In general, commentators on forums, including the MacRumors forum, report completely different test results. Although, the information received from them is very interesting. After all, it shows how new smartphones work in real conditions of everyday use.

Those who are interested in finding out what kind of processor is in their iPhone 6s can use the Lirum Device Info Lite app [download from the App Store]. In the tab Model Information This program displays which chip is installed in the device. It could be a Samsung processor ( N66AP in 6s Plus or N71AP in 6s) or from TSMC ( N66mAP in 6s Plus or N71mAP at 6s). [MacRumors]

    Please rate it.

Congratulations to all fans of small screens and 4-inch iPhones! On March 21, 2016, Apple updated its line of 4-inch iPhones with the new iPhone SE. This means we have a choice. We may not buy large iPhones with 4.7″ or 5.5″ screens just because they are the latest models. If you like a small screen and the good old “five” has always suited you, then today you can buy a new, fresh 4-inch iPhone SE with modern and up-to-date hardware inside.

The most important thing is that people who were using the iPhone 5 have already encountered problems related to the software. For example, the “night mode” function from iOS 9.3 is no longer supported by the “five” and, apparently, it is not a fact that the iPhone 5 will support all functions. Those. Apple is gradually stopping support for the five, and by purchasing an iPhone SE we get the most current device with the latest processor, which will support all the functions of all new versions of iOS for the next 5 years. Yes, we will even sell or destroy it sooner :)

    Colors and body

The first thing I immediately want to draw your attention to is the presence of a new color in the Apple iPhone line and, also, in the 4-inch iPhone line - Rose Gold. At one time, Apple introduced this color and has now decided to equip the next version of the iPhone. The new color is popular and already three devices from all Apple products have it. I'm really sure that we'll see it soon.

The shape of the iPhone SE is identical to the shape of the iPhone 5S, so all the cases will roll off your fives. They simply took our any 4-inch iPhone and stuffed it with modern, up-to-date stuffing. Updated, in other words. Well, that’s right, because the iPhone 5S has a fairly beautiful, convenient, comfortable, overall optimal shape and all that it lacks is the relevance of the filling.

What processor is in the iPhone SE

The iPhone SE processor is the current A9 chip, which is currently in the iPhone 6S. Also, the A9 chip has an M9 coprocessor, which provides contactless access to Siri - now you can simply say “Hey Siri” and it will be activated. No need to hold down the Home button anymore.

How much RAM does iPhone SE have?

Fortunately, the iPhone SE received 2 GB of RAM, just like the iPhone 6S. So no lags. The phone works quickly and without lag. he definitely won't. Even faster than the iPhone 5S and even a little better than the latest 6S. Although at the presentation, Apple showed that the new iPhone SE is on par with the iPhone 6S in terms of performance and is 2 times faster than the iPhone 5S. And the graphics chip is 3 times faster than the iPhone 5S.

How much memory does the iPhone SE have?

The iPhone SE received 16 GB and 64 GB of its own memory. Yes, only two models will be available. However, this topic with 16 GB is already infuriating. In 2016, it’s not interesting to put so much, and even with the support of shooting 4K video. Well, it’s clear that this is a marketing ploy and that they follow the concept of the iPhone 6S. Maybe everything will change with the release.

What OS does the iPhone SE run on?

iPhone SE comes with iOS 9.3 on board. And accordingly, it will support iOS 10 and subsequent new ones, up to iOS 13.

    Battery

iPhone SE price, iPhone SE release date, start of sales

The iPhone SE release date is scheduled for March 31st. Although pre-orders can be made starting March 24th. iPhone SE will be released on March 31 in the first wave countries, which will include:

    1. Australia
    2. Canada
    3. China
    4. France
    5. Germany
    6. Hong Kong
    7. Japan
    8. New Zealand
    9. Puerto Rico
    10. Singapore
    11. England

iPhone SE release date in Ukraine and Russia is May. The new iPhone SE will be released in Ukraine and Russia in May because Apple plans to launch it in 110 more countries in May. I think that we are included in this list anyway. And the iPhone SE will be sold at a price of 400 bucks for 16 GB and 500 bucks for 64 GB. If the official price of iPhone SE in the US:

    • $399 dollars for 16 Gb
    • $499 USD for 64 GB

then in Ukraine it will be much more expensive. As usual, there is an additional payment for delivery and, plus, stores charge crazy prices. Therefore, the approximate price of the iPhone SE in Ukraine is 14,000 UAH and 16,000 UAH dollars for the 16 and 64 GB models, respectively.

That's all for the iPhone SE review. Overall a good device. Especially for those who don't like large displays on phones. A worthy replacement for iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. And I was very pleased with the price. This is the most affordable iPhone in the world today. Modern filling, in the form of an awesome camera, like the iPhone 6S, a powerful and fast processor, a beautiful rose gold color - makes this iPhone the best among 4-inch iPhones, modern and relevant.

Good mood to everyone. See you in touch :)

So, in short, the iPhone SE is an iPhone 6s in an iPhone 5s body. There are only two visible differences between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 5s. First, on the back it says “iPhone SE” instead of just “iPhone”.

From left to right: iPhone SE, iPhone 5s

The second difference is that the chamfers of the metal edging are not glossy, but matte. It is difficult to notice this, even with direct comparison, however, it is a fact.

There are no other external differences - including with regard to the location of the camera and flash (remember, these elements were slightly different for the iPhone 5), speakers and generally all sizes.

And this is very good news. If you still have accessories for the iPhone 5s, they are 100% suitable for the iPhone SE. In our editorial office, for example, we still have a special plastic case with a mount for external lenses - we had to throw it into the back drawer when the iPhone 6 was released, but now we found it and installed it on the iPhone SE without any problems.

We also note that the iPhone SE is now available in rose gold, which appeared in the iPhone line only starting with the iPhone 6s/6s Plus.

From left to right: iPhone 5s, iPhone SE and iPhone 6s

As for our personal impressions, after ten minutes of working with the iPhone SE, returning to the dimensions of the iPhone 6s feels like an inconvenience. At the same time, the relatively small screen of the iPhone SE compared to the iPhone 6s does not cause such an inconvenience (if we were switching to it from the iPhone 6s Plus, of course, the difference would be huge)

    iPhone SE in hand

    iPhone 6s in hand

However, it should be noted that Apple could increase the screen of the iPhone SE without changing the dimensions of the device itself. The frames are quite thick - there is room to increase them. A screen with a diagonal of 4.3-4.5 inches would fit quite well.

    Features and performance

Inside the iPhone SE is a full-fledged iPhone 6s. Almost. The differences are minimal - there is no 3D Touch (many, however, have already forgotten that the 6s even has it) and the screen resolution is lower - it corresponds to the iPhone 5/5s: 640x1136 pixels instead of 750x1334 pixels. Thus, the total number of pixels on the iPhone 6/6s screen is 1.4 times more than in the iPhone 5/5s/SE.

At the same time, the hardware in the iPhone SE is absolutely the same as in the iPhone 6s - a dual-core Apple A9 APL0898 processor with a nominal clock frequency of 1850 MHz, a PowerVR GT7600 video accelerator, and 2 GB of RAM.

However, benchmark results show that the iPhone SE is still a fraction less powerful than the iPhone 6s - despite the fact that its processor has less to worry about due to the reduced screen resolution.

This difference may be due to an artificial limitation of the processor frequency. The iPhone 6s has a 1,715 mAh battery, while the iPhone SE (according to iFixit) has a 1,624 mAh battery, which is smaller. To ensure autonomy similar to the iPhone 6s (and the manufacturer claims that the autonomy of the SE is even higher), the difference in screen resolution and brightness may not be enough.

In any case, the artificial reduction in processor frequency also explains the heterogeneity of the benchmark results obtained on the iPhone SE. As a rule, we run the benchmark several times (up to 5 times) and select the best results (it is possible to slow down the benchmark by third-party processes, but it is unlikely to speed it up). In the case of the iPhone SE, there was a large difference between the minimum and maximum results, which hints at control of the processor frequency.

By the way, pay attention to the line “internal memory” in the technical specifications table. iPhone SE will only be available in 16 or 64 GB variants. There are only two options, there will be no others. Although, in an amicable way, it was possible to leave only one option - 64 GB. Indeed, 16 GB is very little these days, even if you don’t watch movies or play games. There is enough music to fill half of this volume, and the other half will be useful for system needs, especially when the new iOS firmware is released.

Another hardware difference between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 6s is the front camera. If the rear cameras of these smartphones are identical (but in the SE it does not protrude above the body because the body itself is thicker), then the SE inherited the front camera from the 5s. This, however, does not mean that the quality of selfies has become significantly lower, but we will cover this issue in more detail in the review.

What's left of the iPhone 6s

So, we’ve sorted out the hardware: the processor, RAM and rear camera in the iPhone SE are identical to the iPhone 6s. There are also few differences in software. There is no 3D Touch, but this is mostly a hardware function - you need support from the screen. However, Live Photos were left here - i.e. You can take animated photos on iPhone SE as well as view them.

But the ease of using one hand (double tap on the “Home” button) has been removed - this is not needed here, because You can easily reach the top row of icons with your thumb.

The iPhone SE comes with iOS 9.3 by default, and on the very first day we received it for testing, the phone requested an update to iOS 9.3.1. The update fixes some bugs in version 9.3.

It should be noted that the system works at lightning speed on the iPhone SE; we did not notice any performance problems. That is, for those who began to notice lags on the iPhone 5s, it will be very convenient to upgrade to the iPhone SE.

    General impression

At the cost of minor sacrifices like 3D Touch and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, Apple managed to cram the power of the iPhone 6s into the body of the iPhone 5s. Yes, the larger the screen, the easier it is to consume modern content. But for the big screen there is an iPad, but you want to handle your phone with one hand and not get it in your pocket. All the same, the phone will not fully replace the tablet, and the tablet will not replace the phone.

Well, for the upcoming review we will test the autonomy and both cameras, and in general the operation and stability of the device. At the same time, let’s think about how the line of Apple smartphones will develop further, and whether we will see another SE in a year. It seems to us that it would be logical to remove the line of 4.7-inch iPhones and leave 4 inches and 5.5. The first option is for those who care about ergonomics (and who use an iPad for content that requires a large screen) and the second option is for those who perceive the smartphone as a universal device that replaces, among other things, a tablet.
