• Whatsapp how the application works. Communication via WhatsApp. WhatsApp user instructions for use. How to turn off sound notifications for messages from a specific person or all at once

It has become much easier to convey important information to each other, and just communicate. Among the Russian-speaking population, the most popular today is the WhatsApp messenger, which is now installed on almost every second owner of a smartphone or tablet. It is simple and easy to use, fast and has everything you need for communication, including transferring photos, videos and, in general, any files!

WhatsApp is most often used from smartphones and tablets with a SIM card. Because WhatsApp was originally intended for the quick transfer of any information between users via the Internet who were in each other’s contact list.

In this article I will talk about the WhatsApp application, and specifically, why it is so useful and convenient and how to work with it on mobile devices (since there is also a version for the computer).

I will show everything using the Android operating system as an example. For the iOS system (installed on iPhones and iPads), the application works similarly, without significant differences.

Pros and cons of the WhatsApp messenger in my opinion.

Among the advantages I will highlight:

The application is very popular among the Russian-speaking population. Perhaps it is even the most popular! For example, out of the entire list of contacts on my phone, more than 80% use WhatsApp, what does this mean?

The application is completely free. Once upon a time it asked for payment for a year, but even then it cost mere pennies. And now WhatsApp is completely free.

Works under all the most popular platforms, namely on mobile devices with the Android, iOS, Windows, BlackBerry, Symbian operating systems; as well as on computers with Windows and MacOS.

Yes, the program even works on a computer, which makes it even more convenient! I’ll tell you about working with the WhatsApp application for Windows in a separate article, soon.

There is everything you need for communication: sending text messages, a variety of standard emoticons, the ability to make audio and video calls, send photos, videos, audio and various documents in messages.

There is a built-in backup function to the phone's memory and to your Google Drive, which will allow you, if anything happens, to restore all chats along with photos and videos (if you enable the appropriate option).

    Some shortcomings I noticed:

You will not be able to use the application on your mobile device if the device does not have a SIM card, and there is no other phone at hand that you could link to the application.

That is, WhatsApp is activated only by phone number and in order to use it you need to link it to some number.

Moreover, if you link a number to the program that your contacts in your address book do not know, then they will not know that you are using WhatsApp.

There is no extended set of emoticons for communication. For me, this is actually not a drawback, since standard emoticons are always enough. Well, someone likes to send all sorts of large animated emoticons with cartoon characters, etc. For example, in a similar program WeChat, which is not particularly popular among the Russian-speaking population, there are many funny animated emoticons.

And, frankly, more shortcomings don’t even come to mind, which is why there was never any need to look for some kind of replacement for this application.

    Installing and launching WhatsApp.

Any application must be downloaded and installed on your mobile device in order to use it. If you have Android, then go to the Play Store application, type “WhatsApp” in the search and you will find the desired application from the store. All you have to do is open it and click “Install”.

On iOS mobile devices it is similar, only the store is called AppStore.

After the first launch of the application, you will need to enter the phone number through which your account will work and confirm it with a code from SMS.

Yes, WhatsApp must be linked to a phone number, because all contacts are located only by phone numbers that are added to the address book of the user of the mobile device. Also, all your acquaintances, friends, and relatives who have your phone number and who use WhatsApp will be able to immediately see you in this application as soon as you register your number there.

After confirming the number, all you have to do is enter your name, under which you will appear in your contacts and that’s it, you can use the application!

    WhatsApp interface.

Immediately when the program starts, it opens “Chats” tab. It displays correspondence with all your contacts by date. If you start communicating with someone, the correspondence with this person will automatically move to the top as the most recent.

If you installed the application for the first time and have never used it, then, accordingly, there cannot be any correspondence on this tab; it will be empty.

“Status” tab- this is the same as the “History” function, which was introduced in such social networks as Instagram and VKontakte. The status contains any photo or video that will disappear after 24 hours.

Calls tab serves to make audio/video calls to your contacts, which, however, can also be done directly through chat. It also displays information about already completed calls.

In the upper right corner there is a search button (1), with which you can find mentions of the search phrase you entered in all your correspondence, as well as a menu button (2), which gives access to various settings if you are on the main WhatsApp page. The same menu button allows you to manage the selected contact with whom you are corresponding; for example, through this menu you can block the contact, turn off sound notifications about new messages from him, etc.

    How to send messages?

In order to write a message to someone (if you have never corresponded with anyone via WhatsApp), click the button at the bottom of the “Chats” section.

A list of your contacts from your mobile device will open, showing only those contacts who use WhatsApp.

You need to select the contact you want to write to.

If you want to make a group chat, that is, communicate with several people at once in one chat, then select the “New group” item at the top of the contact list.

A chat window with the selected contact will open. In the “Enter text” area (1) you can write a message. And if you need to add emoticons to a message, then click on the face on the left. When a message is entered, a send button will appear on the right.

While recording, speak into your device's microphone and simply release the microphone button to send your voice message. If during recording you decide to delete a message without sending it, swipe from right to left.

After you send a message to someone, your conversation will be displayed in the main window of the Chats program and you can continue the conversation directly from there, without having to click the send message button at the bottom of the window again and then select the desired contact.

How to insert a photo, video, audio or any document into a sent message?

To attach photos, videos and other multimedia information to a message, click on the paperclip (1) and at the bottom (2) a list of everything that can be attached will appear.

If you want to attach a photo or video, then select “Gallery”. In this case, you can select “Camera” or press the similar button (3) next to the paperclip and the “Camera” application will open on your device, where you can take a photo and send it immediately.

WhatsApp has a limit on sending videos! You will not be able to send a video longer than 2.5 minutes. But if you select such a video to send, the application will offer you to trim it to 2.5 minutes in a very simple and convenient editor, and then send it immediately.

If you need to send a file, such as a PDF document, a Microsoft Office file, or any other, select “Document.”

The main and most necessary things in WhatsApp.

How can I change my information (display name, photo, status) and phone number associated with WhatsApp?

Profile settings, as well as the function of changing the current phone number, are located in the application settings. Once you open Settings, click on your name or photo at the top:

In the window that opens, you can change your photo (1), display name (2), status (3), and also proceed to change the current phone number (4).

Status is any text with or without emoticons that the user can enter and it will be displayed under the name in the contact list.

Initially, if the user does not change the status, it looks like this: “Hey there! I am using WhatsApp.” or similar in Russian.

How can I view information about a contact?

To view information about a contact, open a conversation with him or start one (by clicking the send message button at the bottom of the “Chats” window and selecting the desired contact), then click on the button in the upper right corner (1) and select “View contact” (2) .

A window will open where a photo of the contact will be displayed at the very top (if this person has installed it) and you can open it in full screen.

Below is the “Media” section (2), where you can see all the photos and videos that you exchanged with the selected contact.

If photos and videos were not sent in correspondence with the selected person, then the “Media” section will not be in this window.

At the very bottom (3) you can see the phone number of the selected contact, as well as its status.

How to make an audio or video call to a contact on WhatsApp?

You can call the right person via WhatsApp in 2 ways:

How can I turn off sound notifications for messages from a specific person or from all of them at once?

When someone sends you a message on WhatsApp, you immediately receive a notification on your device, accompanied by the standard message sound, unless you mute the sound yourself or change it in the settings.

Sometimes you need to turn off notifications from a particular person for a while because, for example, he very often writes something to you, but you are busy and the sound distracts you. Or do you want to completely disable sound notifications in the program from all your contacts.

To turn off notifications from a specific contact, WhatsApp has a “Do Not Disturb” function. You can enable it as follows: in the chat window with the desired contact, open the menu (the button in the upper right corner), then select “Do not disturb.”

Next, choose for what period to disable receiving sound notifications from the contact (1) and, if you want text notifications about messages from the contact to still arrive, then do not uncheck “Show notifications” (2). And click “OK”.

If you want to completely disable sound notifications about incoming and outgoing messages in the program, then go to settings and select the “Notifications” section.

In the Chat Notifications section, select Notification Sound.

From the list of sounds, select the “Silent” mode.

    How to block a contact?

Someone may find it useful to block certain contacts in WhatsApp so that these contacts will no longer be able to send you messages or make calls at all. For example, some contact has been added that sends advertisements and you need to block it.

To block a contact, go to the chat window with him, open the menu and select “More”.

Then select “Block” and confirm the blocking by clicking “Block” again.

Unblocking a contact is done in exactly the same way. You need to open a chat with the contact you want to unblock, open the menu, select “More” and then “Unblock”.

How to find information in correspondence?

If you need to find some information in your correspondence, you can use the search.

If you want to search for all correspondence at once, then click the search button (magnifying glass) on the main WhatsApp page (“Chats” window):

A search line will appear at the top, where you enter what you want to find and the application will show you clippings from all correspondence where what you are looking for was found.

If you want to search for correspondence with a specific contact, then open the desired chat, then the menu and select “Search”, after which you just need to enter what you want to find in the search bar.

How to clear the history of correspondence with the right person or with everyone at once?

If you need to erase correspondence with a specific person, then open the chat with him, then “Menu”, “More” and select “Clear chat”.

And if you want to clear all chats, then open the application settings and go to the “Chats” section.

In the next window, select “Chat history”, and then “Clear chats” or “Delete chats”.

Clearing chats differs from deleting them in that when clearing, all correspondence will be deleted from chats, but the chats themselves will remain visible in the main program window (i.e., in the “Chats” section). And when you select “Delete chats”, the correspondence will be deleted along with the chats themselves, which will disappear from the main program window.

How to set up backup of your WhatsApp chats?

If you use WhatsApp for work or personal purposes, but information from chats is very important to you and can be useful at any time, then backing up chats is a must for you!

Because if the chats are deleted (for example, you reinstall the program) and there is no backup copy, then, accordingly, you will not be able to restore anything.

WhatsApp takes care of its users in this regard, including backup immediately after installing the application, in automatic mode.

Backup is performed in 2 storages:

Your memory is in your phone. WhatsApp saves a backup copy there once a day.

Your Google account. The app will copy the backup to your Google Drive at the interval you specify (initially once a week).

Information about backup and its settings is contained in the “Settings” - “Chats” - “Chat backup” section.

The top (1) tells you when the last backup was made to your phone's storage (locally), to your Google Drive, and how much space the last backup took.

Here you can perform a manual backup by clicking the corresponding button (2).

If you don't want backups to also be copied to your Google Drive account and take up space there, you can disable the creation of copies to drive. To do this, click on the “Backup to Google Drive” (3) and select “Never”. Or here you can select the frequency of copying to Google Drive you need.

If backups are not copied to Google Drive, then if you lose your phone or clear all data from its memory, you, accordingly, will not be able to restore any chats in WhatsApp when you reinstall this application on the same phone or on any other!

To change the Google Drive account to which backups are saved, click on “Account” (4) and select another.

It is impossible to cancel the creation of backup copies to the phone memory, as well as change the frequency of their creation.

Pay attention to the “Add video” option at the very bottom of the backup settings window. If you enable this option, videos will also be added to backups, which can significantly increase their size. Initially, this option is disabled and only photos are backed up along with chats.

    Conclusion

Everyone who uses the WhatsApp application on their smartphones and tablets has already been convinced of its convenience and usefulness. Because you can always be in touch with your contacts who use the same application (and it is used a lot, much more than its analogues), anywhere. The main thing is that there is internet, even if it’s weak, but now it’s available almost anywhere! :)

Well, those who are often at the computer have the opportunity to use a special WhatsApp program for the computer, which is also a huge plus. Because there is no need to be distracted by your smartphone in order to answer someone if you are at the computer at that moment. Moreover, it prints much faster from a computer (for those who do not like to send voice messages).

In general, the application is simply excellent and very useful, I recommend it!

To customize the messenger for yourself, click on the ellipsis icon in the upper corner of the screen, then select “Settings” in the context menu. Here you can set your privacy settings and more.

Who today does not know what WhatsApp is and how to use it? Surely every modern smartphone and tablet user has such a wonderful messenger installed. There is no need to talk about its advantages: instant sending of both regular messages and audio and video. You can create entire conversations and communicate with your group, where each participant can read what was sent. And this is only a small part of the capabilities of the world's most popular messenger.

But what should someone who is encountering this program for the first time do? Where should he start, where to download it, how to register, how does WhatsApp work in general? These and many other questions arise before a subscriber who is just about to plunge into the world of WhatsApp. Therefore, it is advisable to talk about everything from scratch. Perhaps even an experienced user will be able to find useful information for himself.

Of course, getting any software started starts with downloading it. It is worth noting that WhatsApp is a cross-platform program. This means that it will run on almost any operating system and send messages regardless of device type. That is, from an Apple smartphone you can easily send even voice notes to a device running Android. So, how to install WhatsApp and where to download it from?

You just need to go to your device and write the name of the program in the search, then click on the button to download. The download will occur automatically, after which you can log into our application. The program is available for devices running the following systems: iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian, Nokia S40, and BlackBerry OS.

    First launch of WhatsApp

Do not forget that for this program to work, a prerequisite is the presence of a SIM card in the device, as well as an active Internet connection. Now you can safely run the program. After a short wait, WhatsApp will ask you to enter your phone number. You must select a country and enter data. After this, you need to wait until a message with a code for successful registration in the program arrives on your smartphone. On some devices, the entire process takes place automatically. But there are times when you will need to enter the received code manually. This completes the authorization process.

    Program window

The WhatsApp workspace looks different depending on the operating system on which it is installed. However, the functionality and procedures performed are almost identical. Therefore, let’s look at its operation using the example of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Android smartphone.

The top green row in the right corner has three tabs (calls, chats and contacts) and three buttons (search, new message, options). Let's start in order:

We took a detailed look at the program's workspace. Now we will answer the most popular questions from users related to the operation of WhatsApp.

Perhaps the most frequently asked question is this: what do ticks mean on WhatsApp? Here is the answer to it: one tick - the message has been transmitted to the network, but the subscriber does not have the messenger running; two gray checkmarks - the contact’s application is running, but he did not read your message; two blue or cyan ticks - the person has read what you sent him.

No less popular is the question of how to join a group. To do this, you must be added to this conversation by the person who created it, since you yourself cannot join it. Unless this very user is you yourself.

How do you know if you have been blocked from the program? The specific name cannot be found out. However, you will not be able to send messages to this subscriber. This will be some kind of indicator that you are on the blacklist of the specified person.

Many people are also interested in the question of how to recover messages. This is relevant if you have changed your phone, but do not want to lose messages. Moreover, this applies specifically to text, since pictures, audio and video on most devices are automatically saved in the device’s memory or flash card. For this case, the official WhatsApp FAQ page has detailed information: https://www.WhatsApp.com/faq/.

We have been using the capabilities of this messenger for more than 10 years. Have you ever wondered how WhatsApp works, on what principle, for example, calls are made? Why do we learn about new messages, even if we are not currently using the program? If you are interested, we invite you to read the article.

    Messenger activation

Let's begin the description of how WhatsApp works for Android and other platforms with the first action that people perform after installing the program: linking it to a phone number. This is the main condition for using the application. What's happening:

    • The account is assigned to a SIM card.
    • The phone book is scanned.
    • All numbers of subscribers who are already using it on their devices are transferred to the messenger contact list.
    • You can add a new friend simply by entering his number into the phone book. Thanks to synchronization with the device, this profile will soon appear in the application's contact lists.

    What else?

You can influence how WhatsApp works by changing the program settings. They are available in each tab: this is a button (a vertical row of three dots) located in the upper corner of the screen, on the right. You can change a number of parameters:

    • Account – deleting it, changing the number, privacy, security.
    • Chats - history and its backup, font sizes, reassignment of the send message button, background. And here there is information on the topic.
    • Notifications – All about audio and visual notifications for individual chats and groups.
    • Data – access points, roaming, traffic saving.
    • Contacts – settings for hidden ones and the ability to invite a friend via social networks, mail or other messenger.

If you are trying to figure out how to work with WhatsApp, be sure to look at its settings and try to change some parameters.
