• Xiaomi Power Bank: what is it and how to use it correctly. Xiaomi Power Bank: what is it and how to use it correctly Mi power bank 2 low charging mode

    In October, Xiaomi released its new external battery Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 (PLM02ZM), which replaced the legendary Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 10000 mAh (NDY-02-AN). Externally and in terms of characteristics, it is very similar to Mi Power Bank Pro, but significantly cheaper. In the review, I will talk in detail about the new external battery and compare the real characteristics with the Pro version.

    If you want, you can first read my two previous reviews of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro and ZMI QB810, because they directly relate to Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2. But this is not at all necessary, but just for information.

    Yes, the review was made according to the rules of clause 18, i.e. provided by store for review. So I will be happy to read the caustic comments from some on the topic of “corruption of authors”, “millions earned from resale” and other amazing stories. Chick-chick-chick...

    Brew yourself some tea or coffee and let's get started!

    Equipment

    The external battery comes in standard Xiaomi packaging.

    The packaging contains technical specifications and a secret code under a washable protective layer to verify the authenticity of the product. You can check it by. My package was slightly dented upon delivery, but everything inside was intact.

    Inside: external battery, USB A cable<>micro-USB, quick user manual in Chinese. Micro-USB cable approximately 30 cm long.

    Appearance

    There are two colors for the external battery: light (silver) and dark (black). I have a light version in my review.

    The design of the device is very similar to Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro, they are even easy to confuse. From left to right: Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro, Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, ZMI QB810.

    Measured size 130 x 71 x 14.3 mm. Weight 226 g. For comparison, here are the dimensions and weight of the Pro version: 128.8 x 75 x 12.9 mm, 217 g.

    The main part of the body is made of anodized aluminum. The end caps are plastic. Technical specifications are traditionally indicated at the bottom end.

    The Mi logo is embossed, which has not been seen in other Xiaomi external batteries.

    At the top end there is: a function button, a battery charge indicator, a micro-USB port, a USB A port.

    Function button purpose. When pressed briefly:

    • Display of charge level by indicators.
    • Forced activation of the device, supplying voltage (if the device is in standby mode).
    • Restarting the external battery controller (if the device is working).
    • Resetting some protection modes (for example, the device went into overcurrent protection).
    • Enable/Disable Xiaomi gadgets such as flashlight or fan.
    Double short press:
    • Enabling the charging mode for devices with low current consumption (the battery does not go into standby mode for exactly 2 hours).
    Here are a few pictures to compare sizes: Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro, ZMI QB810.

    Testing Tools

    For testing I will use my standard set:
    • Tronsmart charger with QC 2.0 support
    • Tester and load ZKE EBD-USB (supports QC 2.0/3.0) with computer control
    • JUWEI J7-t USB tester with high voltage support and QC mode switch
    • iPad mini (to test smart charging)
    • Pyrometer and other little things

    Protection

    Declared protection functions: input overvoltage, input polarity change, output overcurrent, output overvoltage, output short circuit, battery overcharge and overdischarge, battery overtemperature. When it comes to security, Xiaomi external batteries are always at the highest level.

    When the protection is triggered, Mi Power Bank 2 turns off. It returns to working condition in one of three ways (the method depends on the type of protection activated). The first is that the battery will return to working condition on its own. For example, if the over-temperature protection is triggered. Second, press the button on the external battery. For example, if the permissible current is exceeded. Third - connect the external battery to the charger. For example, if there is a short circuit at the output.

    I tested three types of protection. Overload protection - the device has turned off (you will read more in the “Load” section). Short circuit at the output - the device has turned off. Input voltage exceeded - applied 20 V to the input, the device turned off.

    Charging the external battery

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology at the input and can be charged at 5 V, 9 V and 12 V.

    All Xiaomi power banks support pass-through charging. You can simultaneously charge devices from an external battery and the external battery itself. Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 also supports pass-through charging, but here it is implemented more simply than in Mi Power Bank Pro. It all depends on the device being charged. I'll tell you with an example. Mi Power Bank 2 is connected to a charger that supports QC 2.0. If you connect a device without QC 2.0 support to it, the input voltage switches to 5 V: 5 V > 5 V. If you connect a device with QC 2.0 support, the input voltage will correspond to the voltage requested by the device being charged: 9 V > 9 V, 12 V > 12 V. That is switching without converter. Mi Power Bank Pro uses a converter for pass-through charging. For example, the input is 12 V, and the output may be 5 V.

    The charge graph looks like this (red - current, blue - voltage):

    For the first second, Mi Power Bank 2 “communicates” with the charger, the charger switches to 9 V. Then the external battery begins to consume 18 W with a further increase to 18.5 W. It goes on like this 2 hours 8 minutes, during this time the external battery is charged somewhere up to 83% . Next, the charge controller switches to CV mode, the current gradually decreases, and a full charge (the remaining 17%) is achieved in another 1 hour 20 minutes. Total charge time 3 hours 28 minutes. Mi Power Bank Pro takes approximately the same amount of time to charge - 3 hours 24 minutes.

    During charging, the highest temperature recorded near the micro-USB port is 39 ºC:

    If you read my review of the ZMI QB810, which is the twin brother of the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, then you know about one feature - this external battery does not really like to charge at 5 V (it loves QC modes), limiting the maximum current to 1.5 A In Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, the charge controller is programmed differently, and the external battery happily consumes a current of 2 A at 5 V.

    The total charging time with a voltage of 5 V is 5 hours 28 minutes.

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 is activated automatically if a load is connected to it.

    In 5 V mode without load, the voltage is 5.23 V. As the load increases, the voltage gradually drops. Peak current 2.6 A at voltage 4.99 V. Output power 13 W. When the load increases further, the protection is triggered.

    In 9 V mode without load, the voltage is 8.93 V. As the load increases, the voltage smoothly drops to 8.77 V at a current of 2.1 A. When the current increases to 2.2 A, the voltage drops sharply to 6.1 V. When the load increases further, the protection is triggered. Output power 18.4 W.

    In 12 V mode without load, the voltage is 11.88 V. As the load increases, the voltage smoothly drops to 11.76 V, the current is 1.7 A, and the power is 20 W. When the load increases further, the protection is triggered.

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 copes well with the load, demonstrating characteristics that are higher than stated. For comparison, the output power of Mi Power Bank Pro at 5V, 9V and 12V: 12W, 21W, 23W.

    Smart charging

    Apple's memory emulation mode works with a D+ 2.7 V, D- 2.0 V key. the maximum current for Apple devices is 2 A. Connecting the iPad mini did not cause any problems; it consumed a current of 2 A. No complaints.

    Measurement of stored energy (capacity)

    The nominal capacity of the internal battery, according to the manufacturer, is 10,000 mAh at 3.85 V or a more understandable 38.5 Wh. Of course, given the conversion losses, the stored energy will be lower.

    We will carry out measurements in three modes: 5 V / 1 A, 5 V / 2 A, 9 V / 1.6 A or 12 V / 1.2 A. To evaluate, the two most common modes at 5 V and one maximum according to the specifications are sufficient QC 2.0. To maximize losses, I will use 12 V in the latter mode.

    Discharge current 1 A with voltage 5 V

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 was discharged in 7 hours and 1 minute. The maximum temperature of the external battery case was less than 28 °C. At an average voltage of 5.14 V, the stored energy was 36.03 Wh - 94% from the declared internal battery. An excellent result for a modern external battery. It falls a little short of the Mi Power Bank Pro, which has 37.99 Wh in a similar situation.

    Discharge current 2 A with voltage 5 V

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 was discharged in 3 hours 22 minutes. The maximum temperature of the external battery case was 32 °C. At an average voltage of 5.03 V, the stored energy was 33.82 Wh - 88% from the declared internal battery. The gap with Mi Power Bank Pro is increasing, which in a similar situation has 37.47 Wh.

    Discharge current 1.2 A with voltage 12 V

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 was discharged in 2 hours 26 minutes. The maximum temperature of the external battery case was 38 °C. At an average voltage of 11.35 V, the stored energy was 33.21 Wh - 86% from the declared internal battery. Mi Power Bank Pro has 35.18 Wh with higher current (1.5 A).

    Pay attention to the discharge graph. Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, like ZMI QB810, was unable to maintain voltage throughout the entire discharge process; at the end of discharge, the output power dropped to 10 W. The Pro is easily capable of delivering 18W throughout the discharge phase without limitation.

    Mi Power Bank 2 demonstrates excellent capacity performance, but is slightly behind the performance of Mi Power Bank Pro.

    Parsing the device

    The device is disassembled in the same way as the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro. Peel off the two plastic covers from the ends, unscrew the two screws from the bottom and take out the insides.

    The popular Chinese site Chongdiantou already has this external battery on the first day of sales. I'll use their shots of the insides.

    There is a dual Lishen battery installed inside. Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro also uses Lishen, but a different model. The maximum battery voltage is 4.4 V. A temperature sensor is connected to the batteries.

    The charge controller and boost converter are in one chip - ZMI P02Q6RB. The same chip is responsible for “smart” charging (coding) at the output. Everything is controlled by a ZMF 1206USBN controller (most likely it is an ABOV 1206USBN; similar controllers are used in other Xiaomi external batteries).

    For comparison, the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro uses the popular Texas Instruments BQ25895 (charge controller) and Texas Instruments TPS61088 (boost converter) combination instead of the ZMI P02Q6RB.

    Conclusion

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2, given its cost, will certainly be a success, like its legendary predecessor Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 10000 mAh. This is a perfectly balanced external battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. Mi Power Bank Pro is just a little short in terms of stored energy and maximum output power, but at the same time it has a significantly lower price.

    I will list the strengths and weaknesses of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2:

    • Quality of materials and workmanship
    • Good energy reserves
    • QC 2.0 support on output and input
    • Price (compared to competitors)

    • Dependence of output power in QC 2.0 modes on battery charge

    And to make it easier to navigate, I’ll write down the main differences from the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro:

    • Slightly less stored energy
    • Slightly less maximum power output
    • There is a dependence of the output power in QC 2.0 modes on the battery charge
    • Micro-USB port instead of USB Type-C

    Now we are in the age of portable devices, various devices, smartphones, tablets, etc. It is not surprising that the problem of charging them is especially acute, because despite the fact that some devices come with powerful batteries, their charge is sometimes not enough for long-term continuous operation. Now this problem has been at least partially solved, thanks to the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 10000mah - a portable external battery that can restore the functionality of the gadget almost immediately after connection. But for the smartphone to be fully charged, you need to wait several hours.

    So now you don’t have to urgently look for where to recharge your gadget when it runs out of charge at the most inopportune moment, for example, when you are in the city center and, as luck would have it, there is not a single free outlet around. Having bought this device, you can forget that such a problem once existed at all. She will be forgotten like a bad dream. In addition, among power banks, Xiaomi products stand out not only for their quality and power supply, but also for their very affordable price. The cost of this device is almost two times cheaper than analog devices, but produced by another brand.

    General Settings

    An additional supply of energy will definitely not hinder any active user. But before buying any device, you need to familiarize yourself with its characteristics. On the manufacturer’s website we found the following information regarding the configuration of devices of the type in question:

    • Model NDY-02-AN;
    • Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which turns it into a reusable device, careful handling of which will allow the battery to operate for several years;
    • The input voltage is 5.0V, and the output voltage is a little more - 5.1V;
    • The input and output current has the following parameters: 2000mA* for input, and 2100mA* for output;
    • The nominal capacity of Xiaomi Power Bank is 3.6V/10000mAh*;
    • The time it takes to charge the device is 5.5 hours. At the same time, the package includes a charging cable for the battery itself and for the gadget 5V/2A, and with a comprehensive 5V/1A cable, charging can last 10 hours;
    • Automatic detection of gadget connection and disconnection;
    • There is a built-in mode that allows you to automatically turn on protection against such frequent phenomena in our network as changes in input or output voltage. In addition, equipment can protect itself in case of excess current, short circuits, overcharging, overdischarging and other frequent phenomena;
    • You also need to take into account the operating temperature, which when charging is 0℃-45℃, and when discharging -10℃-50℃;
    • The power bank package includes the following elements: the Power Bank itself, instructions for it and a USB cable for charging;
    • The dimensions of the device are 91 * 60.4 * 22 mm, and its weight is 207 g.

    In general, as you can see, in terms of parameters, a power bank is a pretty good alternative to an outlet, especially since it can be used even in nature, when the nearest electrical wire is several kilometers away.

    Appearance of Xiaomi Mi Power bank 10000 mah

    The appearance of the power bank even turned out to be somewhat noble. This device looks really wonderful and recognizable. Carrying the device in your purse is convenient. It is very compact and stylishly designed, so it won’t get in the way even in your pocket. The case is made of quality materials. In particular, anodized aluminum is used, which is diluted at the top and bottom with light plastic inserts. Despite the fact that plastic is used, it is also of high quality, so no squeaks are heard, and the structure is connected correctly everywhere.

    As for the dimensions, the dimensions indicated in the instructions coincide with those that actually exist. But let's take a closer look at the features of the device in question:

    • The manufacturer's logo is painted on the front side of the battery;
    • On the back side is the address of the mi.com website, where you can go and see a more detailed overview of the device in your hands;
    • On the top edge of the power bank 2 10000 there is a button that can turn the device on or off. In addition, there is a micro-USB connector. It is designed to charge the Power Bank itself. But the USB connector is used to charge other devices (smartphone, tablet, etc.). Also on this panel there are four LEDs, the task of which is to display the state of charge. It works according to the following principle: if one LED blinks, then the charge level is only 0-25%, one light is on constantly, and one blinks, then the charge level is 25-50%, and so on according to the same principle. If all four lights are on continuously, then the 10,000 mAh charge is complete;
    • The main parameters of the device model are indicated on the bottom edge. In particular, the serial model number, capacity at 3.6V/5.1V, charge/discharge voltage/current, minimum/average capacity/power value are written here.

    In other words, you just need to pick up the Xiaomi Power Bank 10000 device to know exactly what its characteristics are. You don't even need to read the instructions.

    And if you don’t like something in the design, there is another Xiaomi portable charger called Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro 10000 mAh. Its peculiarity is that it has a dark gray color, while the device in question is light.

    Using the Power Button

    The power button, as already mentioned, is located on the top of the device. But what is it for, and how to use it? Let's try to deal with this issue right away, so as not to break the Xiaomi Power Bank 10000 we just bought.

    If you press the power button once, the result will be:

    • The device's battery level appears. How exactly - we have already told - using indicators;
    • Voltage will begin to be supplied if at this moment the Power Bank is not in working condition;
    • The button turns on and off Xiaomi gadgets connected to it, and it can be not only a smartphone, but a flashlight, etc.

    But double-clicking the button in question will allow you to switch to charging mode for a smartphone or tablet with low current consumption. During this process, the battery will not go into standby mode for two hours. This mode is suitable for charging devices that do not require high voltage. For example, you can take the Mi Band tracker or other similar devices.

    In general, the operating modes are quite convenient if you know in which cases they can be used, and in which it is better for the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank for 10,000 mah to work at full capacity.

    How to distinguish an original from a fake

    Despite the fact that Mi Power Bank 10000 mah is sold almost at cost, they also manage to counterfeit it and sell it even cheaper. In our stores, such a device will cost about a thousand rubles. The price is purely symbolic, since an external battery with the same capacity, but from a different manufacturer, will cost at least several times more. So where can we reduce the price?

    As it turned out, there were craftsmen who replaced the filling of the block with outright garbage, which would not be enough even for one-time use. Not surprising, because reliable batteries were replaced with cheaper and less powerful ones. The wiring that ensures the transmission of contact was generally used there, the thinnest, but cheapest. Even the case was made as cheap as possible. It is clear that it is dangerous to even pick up such a device, and when connected to the network, it can explode or, at best, simply burn out.

    In order not to acquire such a low-quality gadget, you need to know how to distinguish a fake from an original:

    1. The first sign that you have an original is the high-quality packaging made of white cardboard. In addition, it must have a sticker with a license code consisting of 20 characters. To check the code, you need to go to the official Xiaomi website and enter the received characters. If everything is fine, then you have the original box in your hands. But let's look further.
    2. The second option is to look at the charging cable that was in the package. If you have an original cable, then inside the plug there is USB plastic with a black connector. But the fake devices are white.
    3. Inscriptions on Xiaomi 10000mah. In the original device, the inscriptions are clear, but applied with light gray paint. But fakes are signed with black paints, the edges of which are blurred with various smudges, etc. In addition, mistakes are made there. For example, we came across an option where the battery says “LHON”, instead of the correct option “LI-ION”.
    4. There is a logo on the front of the device. In the original it is signed with slightly darker paint, while the fake has a slightly larger inscription than the original. And if you look closely at the panel itself, you will notice that there is no shine in the original, or rather, it is there, but the body is almost matte, noble. But the fakes have such a shiny panel that it feels like they were coated with glitter varnish. And if you look closely, fake batteries have scuffs, so this is a reason to make sure that this is a fake.
    5. The indicators are covered with protective transparent plastic, which has a small diameter. As for fakes, the indicators are not only larger and less accurate, but at the same time there is no protection on them. There is an “MI” logo at the end of the USB port.
    6. Xiaomi 10000 mAh batteries were manufactured by LG. They are directly connected to the PCB. But fake batteries have filling from an unknown manufacturer, and the batteries are connected to the board with thin wires that constantly overheat.

    In general, it is quite possible to identify a craft by external signs; you just need to be a little more careful.

    Conclusions

    Xiaomi's portable Power Bank becomes an indispensable device that makes the user's life much easier. Now you don’t have to constantly worry about your smartphone running out of charge at the most inopportune moment, because you have insurance. And every year this equipment becomes more and more advanced, but prices are in no hurry to rise.

    And both technical characteristics and design have become better, which is very important for those people who use a portable battery every day. Naturally, they want it to be not only compact in size, but also stylish in appearance, allowing it to be used in a crowded place.

    As for the price, the device is quite affordable even for a poor person. Anyone who is interested in always being in touch can afford to pay a thousand rubles for it.

    Here is a list of advantages of Xiaomi Power Bank 10000 mAh:

    • Excellent quality of both workmanship and materials used;
    • Affordable price;
    • The battery supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technologies;
    • Very good indicators of stored and dispensed capacity;
    • Compactness and lightness of the gadget. Thanks to this, the battery can even be carried in a pocket, not to mention a bag.

    So, to summarize, we can say that the device in question is an excellent choice for its price.

    The history of Xiaomi portable batteries began with the Mi Power Bank 10000 mAh model, which is still the world's most popular portable battery for charging electronics. Over the past two years, the Chinese corporation has managed to release a large number of other portable batteries, but it is the version with 10,000 mAh capacity that is the most optimal, according to many.

    At the beginning of 2017, Xiaomi presented and began selling the Mi Power Bank 2 10,000 mAh battery, which differs from its predecessor in a thinner body, new hardware and, of course, a higher maximum current strength - 2.4A versus 2.1A in the first generation.

    You can buy Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh in two colors – Silver and Black. In our case, the choice fell on black, as it looks more “fresh” and interesting. Otherwise, except for the difference in color, the two versions of the second generation portable battery are no different from each other.

    The Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh comes in a stylish white package with an image of the device itself on the front. Since most Xiaomi products are intended for sale in China, there are inscriptions in Chinese on all sides of the box. I would like to believe that in the near future the company will finally begin to carry out all designations in English, which will allow it to more actively promote its products on the international market.

    In the package you can find another one, inside which there is a small manual in Chinese, a microUSB - USB cable, as well as a black portable battery itself.

    The length of the microUSB cable is 30 cm, whereas in the first generation it was 20 cm. Most likely, Xiaomi employees realized that buyers of portable batteries experience inconvenience due to too short charging cables, so the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro with a USB connector Type-C cable length has increased to 30 cm.

    Of course, the greatest interest is the Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh itself. The black color in real life beautifully and gracefully shimmers into purple and dark blue colors. In general, the black color turned out to be very unusual, but extremely on-brand. In just a few minutes, a large number of greasy hand stains appeared on the case. In bright light they are clearly visible.

    The build quality of the second generation portable battery is at a very high level. There are no cracks or distortions anywhere, and the aluminum body has a fairly large margin of safety, so it will not be so easy to damage it. However, the black color of the Mi Power Bank 2 will show scratches and abrasions over time. The solution to the problem may be to purchase a silver model or a protective case.

    The dimensions of the Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh case are 71 x 130 x 14 mm and weighs 217 grams. For comparison, a model with a similar capacity has dimensions of 75 x 128 x 13 mm and a weight of 218 grams.

    The Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000mAh Portable Battery has short circuit protection, overheat protection, and overload protection. Like all other Xiaomi batteries, there is an LED indicator on the side of the device that tells you the remaining battery charge. Next to it is a glossy plastic button that allows you to switch and independently adjust the current in cases where it is necessary.

    The Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh battery supports fast charging technology with a power of 9A at a current of 2A. Thanks to this, when using the appropriate power adapter, the time to fully charge the portable battery is 3 hours 30 minutes - we tested.

    As for the efficiency factor (efficiency), Xiaomi claims 95% - this is a very good result. Thus, the real capacity of the Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh is 6900 mAh, which is enough for 2.4 charges of Xiaomi Mi5, 3.2 charges of iPhone 6s and 1.4 charges of iPad mini 4 tablet. All these numbers sound promising, but the editors website I decided to check the manufacturer’s words in practice.

    A fully charged Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh managed to charge an iPhone SE (1624 mAh) as much as 2 times, and the third time only by 38%. If we talk about charging (5124 mAh), the portable battery was able to charge it completely once, and only 31% the second time. In other words, all specifications declared by the manufacturer correspond to reality. After a couple of charge-discharge cycles, the capacity of Mi Power Bank 2 may “sway” slightly, so the results will be 5-10% better.

    If we closely compare Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh and Mi Power Bank Pro 10000 mAh, then both of these portable batteries are only slightly different from each other. The first is equipped with a microUSB connector for charging, and the second uses USB Type-C. The dimensions of the cases are approximately at the same level, as well as the weight. These two batteries fully support Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging technology, which allows you to charge them in just 3.5 hours.

    Xiaomi claims that the Mi Power Bank 2 can deliver a maximum current of 2.4A, while the Mi Power Bank Pro can only deliver 2.1A. Thus, if you add up all the pros and cons, the new portable battery is superior to its more expensive predecessor in all respects. If we were choosing between these two batteries, then the choice would definitely fall towards the Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh model, because, in addition to everything else, it is also almost half the price. We recommend for purchase!

    Buy Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh at a very low price it is possible.

    Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh is a second generation power bank that has become the most popular charger in the world. Thanks to its functionality and high performance, people buy this device very often. The battery capacity is 10000 mAh, and the output current is 2.4A. Serious indicators. Phones and tablets are charged as if from the mains. Can't believe it? Then this article is for you.

    Review of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2

    The stylish slim body of the power bank is made of anodized aluminum; it hides inside real lithium-polymer power and 9 stages of protection against overloads, overheating and short circuits. The Mi Power Bank 2 case has an LED indicator of the battery charge level, a power button, a USB Type-C connector for powering the battery and a USB output for connecting a consumer. The device is available in two colors: black and silver.

    The Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh battery has modern fast charging technology (Quick Charge 2.0). Full charge replenishment from 0% to 100% occurs in 3.5 hours. The actual declared capacity is 6900 mAh. It is worth noting that the portable battery has smart recognition of the connected device. It automatically adjusts the current strength to the consumer. Double-clicking the power button activates a two-hour low-current charging mode. This mode is suitable for charging low-capacity devices. A USB Type-C cable is included. Dimensions 71x 130x14 mm, weight 217 grams.

    Battery in action

    Let's see how many charges the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 10000 mAh lasts in various conditions. iPhone SE battery (capacity 1624 mAh) the battery was able to charge 2.5 times. iPad mini 4 with battery capacity 5124 mAh fully charged Mi Power Bank 2 was able to charge from zero to one hundred percent 1.3 times.

    One of the most useful technologies in recent years has been fast charging, which allows you to charge smartphones and tablets in just 1-2 hours. This feature really makes life very simple, since it only takes a few minutes to be near the power source, and the phone’s battery absorbs the charge for several hours of operation.

    Unfortunately, portable battery manufacturers are not actively promoting support for fast charging technology, but the Chinese corporation Xiaomi immediately understood what was happening and released the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro model with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. This portable battery is capable of not only charging smartphones and tablets at the highest possible speed, but is also very small in size for its capacity.

    Inside the box there is a 10,000 mAh battery itself, a microUSB cable, small instructions and an adapter to USB Type-C. Yes, for the first time in its practice, Xiaomi installed this connector in a portable battery of its own production. Apparently, the company's engineers realized that the time to introduce a newfangled connector has finally come.

    This situation can be looked at from positive and negative sides. On the one hand, innovation is always good, especially considering that USB Type-C is a universal interface for transferring information and recharging even laptops. On the other hand, there are still few accessories with USB Type-C on the market, and the vast majority of equipment are equipped with regular microUSB. This causes some inconvenience, since you have to use an adapter, which tends to constantly disappear somewhere due to its small size.

    The microUSB cable included with the Xiaomi MI Power Bank Pro is 28 cm long, which is 12 cm longer than in all other models. The connector has also changed slightly. Now it is more compact and also glossy, which has improved its appearance.

    The instructions included in the kit do not contain anything interesting, at least for those who do not know Chinese, so we will not dwell on it. A much more interesting accessory is the branded Xiaomi adapter from microUSB to USB Type-C.

    The adapter is quite compact and definitely made to last. It feels like it was created by Apple, which is very particular about the appearance of both the iPhone and iPad. It is thanks to this adapter that the portable battery is charged from the included microUSB cable. If you don’t have a cable or adapter with a USB Type-C connector at hand, you won’t be able to charge Mi Power Bank Pro.

    Perhaps one of the most important differences in the design of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro 10000 mAh from all other products of the company is the dark color of aluminum. In all other models, with the exception of the version with 20000 mAh, it is silver. Surely, this decision did not come to the marketers of the Chinese corporation by chance, since new colors always additionally motivate customers to buy.

    In the hand, this portable battery feels weighty and solid. You immediately feel that there is simply no free space inside, since Xiaomi engineers made every effort to use every millimeter of space inside the aluminum case. The body thickness of Mi Power Bank Pro is 12 mm, width – 75 mm, and height – 129 mm. At the same time, the weight of the product is 217 grams.

    Using a dark metal color is both a plus and a minus. This color looks more expensive and solid, but the dark color makes scratches and abrasions more visible, which appear very quickly if used carelessly, just like on any other aluminum device.

    In addition, a dark color makes fingerprints and greasy marks more visible, so you need to be prepared for the fact that under the bright rays of the sun the battery will not look as presentable as silver models, although this problem can be solved with a microfiber cloth in a few seconds.

    At the bottom of the Xiaomi MI Power Bank Pro there is technical information in English and Chinese. It is written in regular black on a gray background, and the text does not stick out like on the company's original batteries. The manufacturer claims 90% efficiency, a current of 2.0A at 5.0V and 9.0V, and at a voltage of 12.0V the current is 1.5A.

    The top end contains a USB Type-C connector for recharging the battery itself, a regular USB for charging smartphones and tablets, four LED indicators and a button for checking the remaining charge level, but it also has additional capabilities.

    With single presses of a single button, the voltage is switched, thereby allowing you to charge even very electrically demanding electronics, which includes the bracelet. It can only be charged from the computer's USB port as well as this portable battery. Fortunately, in 99% of cases there is no need to manually switch the voltage, since a special chip does this automatically, making life easier for battery owners.

    If everything is fine with the design and build quality of the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro, then it’s time to talk about the charging time of the battery itself and its actual capacity. For testing, we used a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone with a battery capacity of 5125 mAh, and one with a 3000 mAh capacity.

    In total, the iPad mini 4 was able to charge 146% from this portable battery, that is, once completely, and the second by 46%. Using basic mathematics, it turns out that the real capacity of Xiaomi MI Power Bank Pro is about 7480 mAh when charging iPhone and iPad. At the same time, the charging speed was the maximum possible for Apple products. The Apple tablet absorbed a current of 2.4A, which is the nominal current.

    If we talk about the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which supports fast charging mode, the situation here is approximately identical. We were able to charge a South Korean smartphone from a 10,000 mAh battery by 227%, that is, 6810 mAh. It may seem that this figure is quite small in relation to the actual battery capacity, but fast charging requires sacrifices, which in this case are completely justified.

    The Galaxy Note 5 smartphone charges from the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro as quickly as from the one included in the kit or sold separately. This is undoubtedly excellent, since it takes about 70 minutes to recharge the phone, instead of 2-3 hours for the iPhone 6s Plus with a similar capacity (2750 mAh) and without support for Fast Charge technology.

    Thanks to Quick Charge support, charging the battery itself from 0 to 100% takes about 3 hours 27 minutes. For a 10,000 mAh capacity, this is truly fast. Without this "magic" technology, this procedure would take at least 7-8 hours, and possibly more.

    As a result, the battery Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro 10000 mAh has proven itself as an excellent addition to any smartphone and tablet. Such a large capacity is enough for two or three uses of the smartphone away from electricity, and given its light weight of 217 grams, you can carry the Power Bank on a daily basis in your jacket pocket without discomfort.

    One of the most significant differences between this model and its predecessors is its higher efficiency, as well as support for Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging technology. In addition, the hot new product has a dark gray color and quite compact dimensions for its capacity. The Mi Power Bank Pro battery can be safely recommended for purchase to all lovers of modern technology who want to always stay connected.
