• How to print an image on several A4 sheets. Two simple options for printing a picture on several A4 sheets

You've probably seen it: when a photographer shoots a lot of frames, then prints them out on a photo printer and shows you one A4 sheet on which the entire storyboard of the photo shoot is placed - from four to several dozen photographs. Darkrooms also do this before printing photos. This document can be called differently: preview, review sheet, check sheet.

For certain purposes, you may need to arrange several pictures on one large one. How to make a contact sheet in Photoshop?

Photoshop CS3 was the last version to make creating a photo contact sheet easy. There was a standard plugin (File -> Automate -> Contact Sheet II) that allowed you to combine many small pictures into one large one. The Contact Sheet II plugin has been removed from Photoshop CS4/CS5.

However, now there are two possibilities to make a review sheet from photographs:

  • take advantage of optional add-ons for Photoshop CS4/CS5, among which there is the much-loved “Contact Sheet II” plugin;
  • create a checklist using Adobe Bridge.
  • Let's consider both methods in detail.

    1. Optional plugins from Adobe

These are plugins that existed in earlier versions Photoshop, but due to some circumstances, programs (Legacy plug-ins) were also excluded. Adobe now distributes them as free optional add-ons. A set of plugins can be downloaded from the Adobe website:

    • Photoshop CS5 - Windows: http://www.adobe.com/go/ps_cs5_plugins_win_en ,
    • optional plugins, extensions, files for Photoshop CS5 - Mac OS: http://www.adobe.com/go/ps_cs5_plugins_mac_en.

    ContactSheetII

    Layer Comps to WPG

    Web Photo Gallery (WebContactSheetII)

Unpack the archive, look for the extension ContactSheetII.8LI For the required version Windows/MaxOS (x86/x64), copy to folder Photoshop plugins. On my computer it is this folder:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\ Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\Automate

    We see the plugin window.

  • Select the folder where the pictures are located ( Browse) or in the drop-down menu indicate: Current Open Documents(the control sheet will be formed from images opened directly in Photoshop).
  • Set the output file size in pixels ( Width, Height), set the resolution if necessary ( Resolution).
  • Determine the number of columns and rows ( Columns And Rows) and indicate that the amount of space between images will be calculated automatically (checkbox Use Auto-Spacing) or set it manually.
  • Check mark Use Filename As Caption(add headers based on file name) I also removed. Look to the right: it shows an approximate appearance the resulting image, as well as the sizes of the small pictures that make up the large one.
  • Click the “OK” button. Photoshop thinks, performs the necessary actions and forms a picture (see the example image at the very top of the article).
  • We figured out how to combine many pictures into one big one using the Contact Sheet II plugin. This is exactly the path I chose. How to do the same with using Adobe I will describe Bridge briefly and accompany all the material with a video.

    2. Checklist using Adobe Bridge

It is no coincidence that the above-described plugin was removed from the standard Adobe Photoshop package. A new vector of development has been chosen, according to which the procedures described above should be done Adobe program Bridge.

New opportunities, in particular for the formation of a large image from many small ones, will begin to appear in it.

  • Choose required images. The pictures will be arranged in the order in which we mark with Ctrl (unlike the Contact Sheet II plugin, which, if I’m not mistaken, arranges pictures according to the date the files were modified).
  • Press the button Output.
  • Choose PDF format(don’t be afraid, the .pdf format can then be easily edited in Photoshop).
  • Exactly the same required options(the most important Columns And Rows- number of columns and rows), we form large image(saved in .pdf format).
  • This way you can create one big picture from dozens of others using Photoshop. Lastly, video.

  • Press CTRL+P or open the Print menu and select the item of the same name.

On the tab or in the “Layout” section, check the “Multi-page” box and select “Print poster”. Select the size 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 and click the “Settings...” button.

Set the poster parameters. We can allocate sheets gray, which will not be printed (convenient if we have blank sheets). In the “Print Guides” option you can choose:

    • Overlap and alignment marks - the image will be duplicated along the edges and it will be possible to not cut the edges too straight.
    • Cutting lines - there will be no overlap areas and you will have to clearly cut the edges of the paper.

I think it's safer to choose tags. We set all the necessary settings and print a large picture on several A4 sheets.

    Paint

Another universal method- use Paint program, which comes with Windows. Open START and write PAINT in the search field. Let's launch graphic editor and open the picture in it. Or you can right-click on the picture and select “Open with -> Paint”.

  • Expand the File menu (or the down arrow menu), select “Print > Page Setup”.
  • Create a LibreOffice Calc document on the desktop (right-click on empty space and select “New > OpenDocument Spreadsheet”).
