• SpeedFan – cooling system control. How to set up the SpeedFan program

    Often, users do not even know that they can control the speed of fans if they are connected directly to motherboard. This and more allows you to do great program SpeedFan. The main advantage of the program is its wide functionality and the ability to use it for free.

    In this manual we will show you how to use the SpeedFan program. We will talk using the latest version of SpeedFan 4.52 as an example, but in our experience you can easily use previous versions of the program, since there are not many differences there. We’ll also look at how to set it up SpeedFan program so that it will be easier to use in the future.

    First of all, you need to download and configure the program for comfortable use. The first thing we included in the process of setting up the program was changing the interface language, since most users prefer the Russian interface language.

    Official website: www.almico.com/speedfan.php

    In the interface of the SpeedFan 4.52 program, six tabs are available to the user.

    • Indicators— main program window with the necessary settings (component temperature, fan speed, voltage, CPU load).
    • Frequencies- ability to control processor frequencies.
    • Information- here you can see information about RAM.
    • Exotic— values of all sensors for all computer components.
    • S.M.A.R.T- here you can look at your health hard drives computer.
    • Charts- overview of fan speed, temperature and voltage in graphical form for each component.

    Before moving on to the next step, you need to check some settings. Because by default the motherboard controls the fan speed. If we want to allow the ability to change the fan speed manually, then you need to go to:

    1. Indicators > Configuration > Temperatures and look at the name of the chipset sensor in the column Chip.
    2. Next, open the settings tab Additionally and select the desired chipset.
    3. In which we change the property value PWM1 mode PWM2 mode, PWM3 mode on Manual, Manual PWM Control or Software Controlled.

    Through the SpeedFan program you can increase the speed of all coolers that are directly connected to the motherboard. Increasing the cooler speed may be necessary if your computer or laptop is overheating.

    In this way you can reduce the speed of the cooler through SpeedFan. This will reduce the speed of the fans when they make noise on the computer and you don’t know what to do. If you need to reduce the cooler speed, set the Pwm1 value to less than 100%, since with a value of 100 there will be maximum speed fan

    More the hard way is to separately set the sensor temperature at which the fan speed will increase to maximum and separately set the minimum temperature.

    And also increasing the minimum speed value can significantly reduce, and thereby increase its lifespan.

    SpeedFan doesn't see fans

    Often users encounter a problem when the SpeedFan program does not see one cooler on the computer, or does not see the processor cooling fan on the laptop at all. What to do first in this case:

    • If the problem is on the computer, then be sure to check that all fans are turned on directly to the motherboard, since if you supply power directly from the power supply, you will not be able to programmatically control the speeds.
    • Next, if you are using a laptop, then in Bios look for items related to automatic fan adjustment. Need to search CPU Fan Control, CPU Q-Fan Control or even CPU Smart Fan Control and disable them by setting the value Disabled.

    After these steps, the problem when the SpeedFan program does not see the fan on the laptop will be solved. And also, there are very old motherboards that do not support changing the fan speed at all.

    Conclusions

    The SpeedFan program has truly excellent functionality and offers powerful tools for monitoring the temperature of components. But there is a bonus additional functionality, such as the ability to observe temperature graphs or even check the status hard drive. More powerful programs can be found in the article.

    In this article, we showed how to use the SpeedFan 4.52 program and how to configure it correctly. Although at the time of writing the current version of the program was 4.52, previous versions the main functionality works similarly. And also suddenly your SpeedFan does not see the fan or refuses to change the value at all, then we recommend that you take a closer look at the problem above.

    For temperature monitoring the main components of the computer and for adjusting the rotation speed of the processor cooler and other fans installed in the computer. But before you start using the program, you need to install the Russian language in the program and make settings for the program.

    How to change language in SpeedFan

    First you need to configure the interface in SpeedFan and make it in Russian, and to do this, launch the program and close additional window called Hint by clicking on the Close button. Then in the program window you need to click on the Configure button.

    Program for increasing the speed of the SpeedFan cooler with an English interface

    A window called Configure will open. In this window, you need to go to the Options tab.

    SpeedFan crack on the Options tab

    On this tab, in the Language item, you need to select Russian from the pop-up list and click on the OK button located at the bottom of the program window. After this, the window called Configure will close, and the program interface will already be displayed in Russian.

    How to set up the SpeedFan program

    Now you need to configure SpeedFan correctly, and to do this, open the Configuration window again and go to the Options tab.

    Recommended program settings

    On this tab, you can check the boxes Launch minimized and Minimize when closing, so that when you start and close the program, it will immediately minimize and hide in the tray. You can also check the box Full speed fans when exiting because when you restart the computer, more energy is consumed and the computer heats up more. If you check the static icon box, then just the program icon will be displayed in the tray instead of the temperature readings from the sensors. By clicking on the OK button, all settings will be applied.

    In SpeedFan how to change the fan speed

    With this program you can set the fan speed in automatic or manual mode. For the program for adjusting the cooler speed to work in automatic mode you need to first set the minimum and maximum temperature conditions in which the fans will spin slowly or at full power.

    SpeedFan setting fan speed

    Open the Configuration window and on the Speeds tab you will see how many fans and on which devices this program can regulate the fan speed. On this tab, click on the desired fan and at the bottom of the window, check the box next to Autochange. Do this with those fans that you want to regulate.

    Setting temperature conditions for fan operation

    Then we go to the Temperature tab and see that there are many sensors indicating temperature, but not all devices have fans installed. On this tab, click on the device for which you set Autochange on the Speed tab and at the bottom of the window set the temperature limits in the Desired and Alarm items. If the temperature is below the set Desired, the fans will spin slowly, and if the temperature is higher than the set Alarm, the fans will start spinning at full speed. Thus, set the temperature conditions for all the fans that you want to regulate, and when everything is ready, click OK and the configuration window will close.

    In SpeedFan, the fan speed temperature controller operates in automatic mode

    To given parameters started to work, you need to check the box next to Auto fan speed in the program window.

    Also, in addition to all the above features, updated version software has support latest versions popular models laptop processors.

    Available version Speedfan software, which is suitable for any computer - this is portable rus. This version does not require installation on the system.

    You can work with the application by simply opening the executable file.

    Advice! If your computer is too noisy (heats up) and the fans are not speeding up, you should use the program, because it can solve the problem of constant overheating and spontaneous shutdown of the system.

    Setting up the program

    In order for the application to work stably and regulate the operation of all hardware components of the computer, it must be configured.

    Let's take a closer look at how to use and how to set up the program in a few minutes.

    This method settings and instructions are suitable for any version of the program, because they all have the same interface:

    • Use the program in English, not Russian. This way you can avoid incorrect display some discovered system parameters;
    • Run the program as administrator, as shown in the figure;

    • After starting the program, you need to wait a few seconds. At this time, the utility determines the hardware components that will be worked with in the future;

    • To start the setup process, click on the configuration button, which is located on the right of the main program window. The following window will appear;

    • The window is divided into several tabs. The figure above shows a tab with component temperatures. The indicators in the second column indicate the motherboard chip from which the device is read.
      This way we can determine which component's temperature is shown. Let's start setting up the temperature display, for example, of a video card. It corresponds to the GeForce Video card chip. Click on the device.
      At the bottom of the window you can see two temperature regulators (on the left is the desired temperature, on the right is the alarm temperature). All that is necessary is to set the indicators at the user’s discretion;

    • Uncheck all devices named Temp. They have not decided on the program and it is impossible to measure their temperature;

    Disable undetected devices

    Due to heavy load, computer hardware can often overheat. In particular, this applies to components installed on the motherboard such as hard drives, video cards, etc. Allows you to control the parameters of fans (coolers) software called SpeedFan. What is this application, how to configure and use it correctly, read on.

    SpeedFan program: what is it and what is it for?

    The application itself is a software control component that allows you not only to monitor the recommended, critical (peak) or current cooling parameters of hardware devices, but also to configure the coolers that are responsible for these processes.

    In other words, the same SpeedFan program for a laptop is not only a diagnostic tool, but also powerful tool, which gives the user complete control over the temperature indicators of the fans, their rotation speed or operating modes, with subsequent determination of the results of the set parameters.

    Nuances of installing the application

    So, let's look at the SpeedFan application. How to use the program will be discussed a little later, but for now let’s pay attention to some points related to the installation of this software product.

    First you need to download installation distribution from the Internet, using a trusted source (website). If you download the application from official resource, the English version will be presented there. You can also find the SpeedFan program in Russian on the Runet. In any case, before starting installation, the downloaded distribution should be checked for potential threats.

    After running the executable installation file, you need to follow the instructions of the "Wizard", but during the installation process there will be several initial tests. In addition, you should note that in order to launch the installed application when Windows XP starts, its shortcut must be placed in the startup menu. For higher versions of the system, you can use the UAC slider, setting it to the minimum position, or add the program launch to the “Task Scheduler”.

    Preview of the program interface

    After installation is complete, launch the SpeedFan application. How to use the program will be clear if you pay attention to its interface (the main window that appears when you first start).

    There are several main tabs, the number of which is different versions applications may differ. The metrics tab contains basic information regarding temperature values and voltage of system components, fan speeds and operating modes, loading central processor etc.

    The frequencies tab is used to overclock the processor and allows you to change the frequency according to the specified operating conditions. Please note: it is not recommended for ordinary users to do such things without special knowledge under any circumstances!

    The next information tab is dedicated to RAM. By the way, based on the parameters shown, you can purchase a version of the program that will fully match the installed motherboard, which will increase the reliability and performance of the application in relation to system components.

    S.M.A.R.T tab gives full information about work and state of rigid disk computer system, and also provides some opportunities for conducting basic hard drive tests.

    Finally, the graphs tab in visual mode gives a complete picture of the conditions under which temperature readings change computer components in real time. To select a specific component, use the drop-down menu.

    SpeedFan application: how to use? Initial setup

    Now a few words about initial settings. First, we use the indicators tab, where we enable or disable the indicators used. For the selected (highlighted) element, you can set the desired (Desired) and alarm (Warning) temperature.

    The desired value, for example for a processor, should be set based on the idle temperature (when the cooling cooler is not heard). If this value is, say, 33 degrees, the desired indicator should be 35-37 degrees. Typically, the warning temperature is in the range of 50-55 degrees.

    In any system there are unused sensors, such as the LM75, so they need to be disabled, as well as incorrect temperature readings. The remaining indicators can be renamed and then arranged by simply dragging the mouse to the desired position. The same can be done with fans.

    Setting fan parameters

    Now the most important thing that is in the SpeedFan program. How to use the simplest settings is already clear. Let's consider setting the main controlled parameters.

    The speeds are configured on the tab of the same name, and the actions are similar to those described above (renaming, deleting, arranging, setting custom values).

    Next, go to the Readings tab, which displays the speed range of CPU0 and CPU1. Initially, the values are set to 100%. You cannot change all speeds, and the program will not allow you to do this. But, as a rule, the application for PWM sensors resets two of the four parameters, removing the checkmarks from them and leaving only the two priority ones.

    Any sensor can only affect the rotation speed of only one fan. Theoretically, it seems possible that all speeds can be optimized, but in practice, the temperatures of CPU0 and CPU1 are associated only with speed indicators of the same name.

    Another thing is that the application can be notified that the CASE speed parameter will be enabled for two fans (check the boxes next to CPU0 and CPU1 in the corresponding field). You can also use automatic setup speeds, but they will not change automatically. Therefore, for each fan where such a setting is expected, you need to set the Automatically variated parameter. Only after this the speeds will change depending on the temperatures set on the corresponding tab.

    And you should not use 100% speed, since the noise can be quite strong. For example, if the first cooler operates almost silently at the 65% position, and the second is noisier, automatic adjustment can be removed and the values set in the range of 65-100% (first cooler), and 65-90% (second cooler). But still, when a critical heating threshold is reached or exceeded, regardless of set values The application uses 100% rotation speed for both fans.

    Conclusion

    It remains to add that this program should only be used by advanced users who have initially studied all the documentation on the devices installed in the system and the parameters that they support. And even more so, it is not recommended to overclock the processor or change the system bus frequency without special knowledge, since this can lead to the most unpredictable consequences. But for complete monitoring of the state of all “hardware” components of the system, the application is just perfect, because with its help you can track potentially dangerous conditions of some devices, and then disable programs or services that affect them the most, causing unreasonably high loads.
