To display an image from using WiFi, the user will need to install special utility for Android. Its name is “Screen Cast”, you can download the application at Play Market. It has a wide range of functionality, but its primary task is to transfer information from the screens of one device to another. The main condition is that the phone and screen must be connected to a wireless network. To do this, you will need to connect to the router, or create new point access (if you only have mobile internet). Make sure your TV comes with a browser pre-installed.

    Welcome to our blog!
Today I will talk about another program for organizing a media server on a computer - the article is dedicated to setting up Kodi XBMC Media Center on TV set-top box and phone. With its help we can broadcast to others network devices videos, music and photos, as well as receive files from them. In addition, it also makes it possible to control the playback of music, videos, launching applications on a computer or TV set-top box directly from your Android phone.

We have already become acquainted with the capabilities of the technology for distributing files over the network through a media server, where we managed to talk about several programs and learned how to view movies and other multimedia files from a Windows PC on a TV, smartphone and tablet running Android OS. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to read it to have an idea of what this article will cover.

Isn’t it nice when you can switch movies on your computer without leaving the couch? Essentially this program is a universal player for all popular platforms - Windows, Linux, Mac OS, iOS, Android, etc. That is, by setting it to any portable device inside local network, we can easily connect it with another and use it as a control panel.

Installing and setting up XBMC Media Center on your computer

To get started, follow the link to download the required version Kodi XBMC programs to your PC - there are options for both Windows and MAC and for various mobile platforms. There shouldn’t be any problems with the installation, so let’s run it after it this application and look at the main window - don’t be alarmed, the program will open in full size monitor screen.

If you have an antivirus or firewall installed, it will ask for permission to connect to the Internet - we confirm that the program could receive from global network data. The main menu has many items, ranging from weather to settings. First, let's go to “System > Settings > Appearance > International” and install the Russian language we need.

The window will quickly reboot and the program will be displayed in a language that we all understand. You can now close the XBMC Language Settings window and return to the main menu. Since we usually analyze such programs on the blog using the example of video playback, let’s not deviate from tradition and select the appropriate item, since music and images will be imported into the program in exactly the same way. Go to “Video > Files”

    And click on “Add video”

Here we need to select the folder from which the files will be available to other devices. Click “Browse” and search the desired folder and then click “OK”

Next, in the previous window, enter the name of our source and also click “OK” (see previous screen).
After this, you will be asked to select the type of files contained in this folder - select “Movies”. You can also do additional settings download trailers, preferred language, etc. in the “Settings” section. I'll leave everything as default and click OK.

When prompted to “Update information for all objects in this folder?” Click “Yes”. The program will begin scanning and adding files to the database, which will last a few minutes, after which the “Movies” folder will appear in the list.

Now we need to configure this program as a server on the local network for distributing materials. We are looking for the already known menu item “System > Settings”

    go to the “Services” section.

Here we will go through all the points that will need to be edited and remembered.

    • General - Device name. The default is XBMC, you can leave it, or you can enter the name of the computer so as not to get confused.
    • UPnP - here you can also activate all the items for automatic settings connecting devices in case manual setting it won't be possible to do it right.
    • The web server is the most important point. Here, firstly, you need to check the server activation box.
after that, set all the values - leave the default port 80, or set your own. We set the username and password ourselves. All these parameters will need to be entered on other devices when connecting, so remember them carefully.

The remaining points in our case are not so important, but if you use another program on your smart or second computer, and not Xbox Media Center, then “ Remote control» Allow control of programs not on the XBMC platform.

If you use a tablet or phone from Apple(iPad, iPhone), then go and edit the “AirPlay” section in the same way to allow connection from Apple devices from their standard application.

We save all the settings and proceed to the third stage - connecting to our media server.

    XBMC for Android

As I already said, the program works on most modern operating systems, so you can download it either from the site, the link to which I gave at the beginning of the article, and then save installation file to your device, or download directly to your smartphone. I will work with Android, so we are looking for it in the Play Market.

Select “Manage XBMC Hosts” and close (“Close”) the pop-up window.

After that, again press the “Menu” key on the smartphone and select “Add Host”.

Now is the most crucial moment - we need to remember all the data that we configured on the computer and enter them.

Leave the rest unchanged and click the “Yes” button. After which our new host will appear in the list. We return to the main program window using the “Back” arrow on the smartphone panel and see a list of file categories. We need "Movies", i.e. video.

A list of video categories that are built into the parameters of each of the downloaded files will open. For greater clarity, click on the folder icon so that the files are displayed in the form we are familiar with. We see a folder shared on the computer, and in it there are videos available for viewing.

We choose any one and enjoy watching it by controlling the player using the panel on the smartphone screen.

How to enable media server on Android?

However, this is not the only way to customize the XBMC Media Center program - after all, it can itself play files from other devices on the local network, and not just from the one on which it is installed. Today we will learn two things - how to play video with Android smartphone and how to view a file from another computer.

Let's start with smartphones. So, as I already said in, a smartphone (or phone, tablet) can either play files located on a computer on which the dlna-server program is installed, or be one itself and allow viewing of its files on other devices within the local network.

To do this you will need to install on it specific application, with the help of which a mobile phone is created DLNA server. In the same article I cited one such program, but today we will analyze another, which, in my opinion, is easier to learn. It's called BubbleUPnP. As the name suggests, it works using UPnP technology, that is, devices that support it connect to each other without our participation. presets names, passwords, IP addresses, etc.

Download it from the Play Market and install it. Launch it and go to the main player window. Now let's take a little break from the smartphone and move on to our computer, on which the file from Android will be played. Kodi XMBC Meida Center must be installed on your computer. Moreover, check that in the connection settings the items responsible for automatic UPnP communication are activated. This is done in the menu: “System > Settings > Services > UPnP”

In addition, naturally, both the smartphone and the computer must be connected to the same local network - PC via cable or Wi-Fi, smartphone via Wi-Fi.

Now let's return to the smartphone. We need the "Devices" tab from the bottom navigation menu. There are 2 sections with a list of devices with DLNA applications installed.

    • Renderers are the devices that will receive files
    • Libraries - those that will distribute their files
    1. If we want to play files from a phone/tablet on a computer, then as Renderers we check the box opposite the computer, as Libraries - opposite the gadget, that is, Local Media Server.
    2. If, on the contrary, we want to watch a file from a computer on our smartphone, then we do the opposite.
    3. As you can see, there is one more device in the client list - a TV that can only receive files. If we want to view video from a smartphone on it, then select it as Renderers.

We need the first case, so we set it as in the screenshot:

Now go to the “Library” tab and select the file to play from those available on Android. If we selected a computer as the source, the folders added to XBMC on it would open.

We click on the selected clip and it starts playing on the computer in the XBMC program.

This is how you can easily and naturally turn your smartphone into a full-fledged one home media server and watch videos from it on TV or computer! I only talked about two options for customizing the Kodi XBMC Media Center program, but in fact there are many more. For example, in the same way, you can use it to play files on a TV set-top box that are on the same computer, smartphone, or even created on a router. To do this, simply select the appropriate server as the source and log in to it.

Did you know that you can cast the screen of your Samsung smartphone or tablet to your computer and control it using your mouse and keyboard? No? Well, now you know. Moreover, it is quite easy to do.

Samsung took care of everything by introducing the SideSync application. It allows you to wirelessly share files between your mobile devices and PC, broadcast your smartphone screen, check your notifications and manage the functionality of the gadget on your computer. We mentioned that you can do all this without using a wired connection. All you need to do is connect your computer and mobile devices to one Wi-Fi network. But it is also worth noting that connecting via USB has its advantages.

There are several mandatory requirements to use SideSync. You need a compatible smartphone that runs on stock firmware based on Android 4.4 or later. You also need a PC with the capabilities wireless connection via Wi-Fi or a regular USB cable. Is everything ready? Okay, let's continue.

How to cast an image from the screen of a Samsung device to a computer:

    1. First, we need to install the application on both the computer and the mobile device you want to connect. Naturally, to do this you need to open Google Play on your smartphone or tablet, find SideSync and install it.

You also need to install SideSync on your computer. Follow this link if you're on Windows, or this one if you're using a Mac. After installing all the required software, proceed to the second step.

    2. Connect your gadget to your computer via a USB cable or make sure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. After that, launch the SideSync application on your PC.

    3. After the connection between the devices is completed, a small window should pop up on the computer as in the screenshot below. This is the main interface of SideSync and allows you to access its features.

    4. The main advantage of SideSync is controlling your phone from your computer. This is what it looks like:

    5. You can conveniently control your device remotely using your mouse and keyboard on your PC. In addition, when you receive, for example, an SMS on your phone, the program will notify you about it.

I would like to add that Samsung did a good job. Everything works smoothly, the connection is almost instantaneous. If you want the most out of the phone screen streaming feature, then I recommend a USB connection.
