• How to make WiFi at home using a router? What is Wi-Fi and how to create a home network with your own hands

    Good day, blog visitors.

Today, many computer users cannot imagine their life without the Internet. Moreover, it is now available not only on computers, but also on smartphones, tablets, and TVs. Becoming increasingly popular wireless technologies, and this mainly concerns getting the opportunity to get into “ world wide web" Special devices cope with this task perfectly. But what to do if such equipment is not provided? Later in the article I will tell you how an access point is organized wifi Windows 7 on a laptop in various ways.

    General information

Wi-Fi technology allows all users to combine multiple computers and additional peripheral devices into home groups. This allows you to increase the speed of information transfer, speed up communication, and improve the workflow.

Mostly similar system organized using special equipment - a router. But this device is not always at hand. But what if you urgently need to establish a connection with a new component or open access to the Internet? Fortunately, all modern laptops have built-in Wi-Fi adapter. It is this element that can be configured as wireless module communications.

There are many programs for this. In addition, the operating system itself provides some tools that allow you to accomplish your plans.

    Built-in capabilities

It’s worth saying right away that this method does not require users to install any additional software.

This method will help you get a wireless access point without a router - it will be configured on your laptop. In this case, the device both distributes and receives a signal.

And the first thing we need to check for this is the drivers for the module we need. They must be latest version. If this is not the case, the functionality we need may not be supported at the software level.

Internet distribution can be organized via the command line or using the “comp-comp” connection. In any case, the result will be the same.

The main thing is to do everything step by step so as not to miss anything.

    Command line

To achieve desired result, you need to perform a number of actions:

In some cases, users may need to share information. To do this we do the following:

If you suddenly receive a limited connection, and you need to set up the Internet for all participants, you need to do a few steps:

Now the access point is designed not only for computers or laptops, but also for phones and tablets.

    Comp-comp connection

The procedure itself is simple. To do this we do the following:

If after this the device does not distribute the Internet, rebooting the equipment may help. Otherwise, check your settings.

    Programs

This method can be called one of the simplest. There are many applications for this that are downloaded for free. In general, work in such programs comes down to four main actions:

    1. Entering a name.
    2. Security selection.
    3. Entering the key.
    4. Selecting a connection to access the “world wide web”.

It is worth noting that if you are planning to do this using a desktop computer, it must have the appropriate components. So, for example, the usual network card won't do. This can be accomplished via a USB modem connected to an external port.

I hope you can easily achieve your goal. Subscribe and you will always know what to do with your computer in any situation.

Since I will be showing mine personal experience, then we’ll figure out how to set up wifi using the example of two routers I had and several provider options.

How to connect a wifi router?

In order to organize wifi network at home, I used at different times three special devices - routers: Zyxel Keenetic, TrendNet TEW-632BRP and ASUS WL-520GC. Perhaps I didn’t say it very clearly - these are the same thing, just from different companies, that is, you don’t need to buy both at once if you want to repeat the same thing.

I’ll say right away that I wouldn’t want even my enemy to use Trendnet, so never buy this brand - you’re guaranteed constant headaches, getting disconnected from the network, freezing and rebooting! But since I’ve already used it, why not tell me how it works... And one more note - you need to buy a wifi router, since there are a lot of devices that are similar in appearance and functionality for various purposes. For example, out of ignorance it is easy to confuse it with a wired router, which distributes the Internet signal to devices, but using cables.

The point of connecting a router is that it is now it, and not your PC, that will connect to the Internet via cable. For this purpose, we will write down all the necessary parameters in the settings. And all other devices will already receive Internet via wifi from the router. For clarity, look at the diagram:

How to connect the Internet via wifi at home: setting up DHCP

The first wi fi setup that we will look at is turning our newly purchased and installed router into some kind of server.

    Procedure:

    1. First of all, you need to connect the router to your computer. To do this, insert the Internet cable into the WAN slot on the device. And we connect the other cable, with two plugs, which most likely came with the device, with one end to the computer’s network card (where the Internet cable used to be), and the other to any of the LAN1, LAN2, LAN3 or LAN4 slots of the router.

I also want to note that it is better to connect the router to the network through an uninterruptible power supply, since I had an unpleasant experience when good device from Netgear faltered due to a power surge in the network and began broadcasting wifi not at 100, but at 2 meters. Of course, I had to buy a new one.

    3. After that, go to the address http://192.168.1.1- usually the settings take place here if they did not have to be done at the software installation stage. But look in the instructions for the device to see which path to go to the router’s control panel, since the default preset IP on different routers may differ.

Also another popular placement brief instructions- sticker on the bottom of the router - look there. If there are no instructions in the instructions, or it is lost, then go to the menu (*): for Windows XP " Start > Control Panel > Switch to Classic View > Network connections " On Windows 7: " Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage network connections > Change adapter settings. Next, double-click on the shortcut “ Connection via local network " and in the window that appears, click the button " Intelligence" In the window that opens, look for IPv4 Default Gateway - this is the router.

Now, finally, go to the address specified there through a browser (http://IP ADDRESS OF YOUR ROUTER) and find the DHCP Server item in the menu (in Trendnet it is combined with WAN) and set the range of values for the possible IP addresses of devices connecting to your local area. For me it was like this: Start IP - 192.168.10.101, End IP 192.168.10.200. And of course, opposite the DHCP Server item there should be an Enabled parameter. Domain Name or Host Name is the name of the future home wifi network. I’ll immediately make a reservation that the screenshots below were taken from my devices, which are already working or have been working for several years and their interface is in English, so it would be difficult for a domestic beginner to figure out what’s what without help - I hope these pictures will help you. Most modern firmware and software are already in Russified form, so it will be even easier to understand.

This is what it looked like on Trendnet (highlighted in red):

And here it is in ASUS:

How to make wifi at home: LAN setup

Now we will set the parameters for our wifi network at home - IP and router mask. For Trendnet this is the same item (see Figure 1, highlighted in green), for Asus - the WAN & LAN section - at the very bottom of the settings page. In the first case I set IP 192.168.10.1, in the second - 192.168.1.1. default mask 255.255.255.0

How to enable WiFi: WAN setup

These were all flowers, now the most interesting part is the setup external connection router to the Internet.

There are several types of connections depending on the settings of the provider. This happens in the WAN menu.

In Online, which I used at the time, the IP was issued automatically, that is, there was no need to configure anything special - you just plug in the cord, set up the local area and that’s it, wifi is off. Accordingly, for this type we set Automatic IP in the “WAN Connection Type” field.

In Starnet and others like it, there is another type - called PPPoE. Here you are given a login and password, and in order to connect to the network, you need to enter them each time. To configure, select PPPoE type and make the settings: User Name, Server Name (Service Name), Password, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS. All values for these parameters are provided by the provider when signing the contract - look at it, everything should be there - perhaps some parameters do not need to be filled out. For me it looked like this:

    On Trendnet (WAN menu item)

To Asus (WAN & LAN point)

Another method that I tried was static IP. Kverti gave him away. Everything is simple here - set the “Get IP automatically?” option, if there is one, to “No”, then enter the IP, Mask and Gateway values issued by the provider. Don't forget to also click the "Clone MAC Address" button - it will copy the so-called MAC address your PC by applying it to the router.

And the last one for today is L2TP, Beeline uses it in its connections. Also, you just need to enter the data provided in the contract in the appropriate fields.

There are several other connection options, but I didn’t come across them, so I won’t talk about them.

After you have written down the settings data that you had on your computer and entered them into the control panel of the router, you need to set the IP, gateway and DNS to automatic in the settings for connecting to the new wireless network on your computer (you can find the window for entering this data same as described above and marked with an asterisk (*)).

    Wifi network - encrypt connection

If you did everything correctly and saved all the settings, then all devices that support wifi should now see the new network with the name you specified. However, the question of How to connect wifi at home is not yet closed. The home wifi network turned out to be open, that is, anyone can use your Internet access for free. In order to ruin everyone and make the wifi network at home accessible only to its owner, you need to protect the connection to the router. There are several methods, I have used two in my practice: WPE (or Shared Key) and WPA. The latter is more reliable, so I'll consider it. Go to security settings. In Trendnet this is the “Security” menu item, in Asus it is “Wireless > Interface”.

Select WPE or WPA Personal (PSK, TKIP) from the menu and set a password for connection - from 7 to 64 characters. And we save. I show you how it was for me:

Well, now to access the Internet through your router, you need to enter a password. As you can see, connecting wifi through a router and making a wifi network at home is quite easy. I hope everything works out for you too.

How to make Wi-Fi at home without a router.

Do you have several devices capable of connecting to Wi-Fi, but no router? Do you feel like walking around the house with your laptop? Does your tablet only connect to a certain type of connection?

    The solution is simple!

    1. You will need: a computer with a local network connected.
    2. The second device that craves Wi-Fi
    3. Hands, eyes, brain.

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=”any name (come up with it yourself, for example, in my case TARDIS) “(space) key=”your password, preferably including both numbers and letters. For example 6789324r34 "(space)keyUsage=persistent (Fig. 2)

To do this, go to Control Panel - Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center - (Fig. 8), we see our connection.

Above we see “Local Area Connection” (Fig. 9), go there, then “Properties” (Fig. 10)—

“Access” (Fig. 11), check the box “Allow other users to use the Internet connection of this computer” and select the home network connection “Wireless connection 2” - “OK”

    1. You can connect to Wi-Fi using your created password.
    2. If problems arise, try repeating the procedure again after resolution.

    And a small summary

To create a connection, you need a network card that can support MS Virtual Wi-Fi technology, i.e. First you need to open the “Network and Sharing Center” settings menu with a single right-click and select the second item. Go to the appropriate field and look for the section called “Setting up a new connection.” Click on the link to go to the network setup wizard. We are interested in the element that is highlighted in the screenshot above. Select the appropriate item and click the “Next” button. You will see information window, the contents of which can be read if desired. Then click on “Next” again and move on to the next step.

Now you need to enter it in the appropriate fields. The Network Name (SSID) field is the name of your connection.

It is preferable to leave the security type as WPA2-Personal, since it is the most reliable against external penetrations. The security key is pre-designed complex password to log into your personal hotspot. Its length should be about 8-10 characters, but no less. It is desirable that it consist of numbers and letters.

The corresponding window will open. You may come across 2 fields: home; general.

How to distribute WiFi from a laptop?!

Apart from them there will be nothing. Opposite each of the profiles there is a button that opens the settings.

Click on it next to the “general” item. Next, put a checkmark in the same place where they are located in the screenshot. The only caveat: item 3 of settings is needed only if you want someone to change and save their information in the general network folder. If you want to set the access type to “Read only”, disable the option. Now you know how to distribute the Internet from a laptop using the basic functionality of the operating system. Method 2: distribute wi-fi using the command line. If you intend to do the same set of actions, only using the command line, do the following.

First, create a document in TXT format. A regular notepad is suitable for these purposes. We copy this into it: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=”Virtual_network_name” key=”password_of_8_characters” keyUsage=persistent You get something like: “Network name” and “password” are written individually. The main thing is that you yourself do not forget it. Save the document and change its extension to BAT. The name can also be changed so as not to lose the document.

Let it be, for example, Wi-Fi. Run the file under administrator rights by right-clicking and selecting the desired item context menu. Once you run the file double click, a new network connection is activated. All that remains is to give him access to the global web. Right-click on the connection on which we are in at the moment go to the global network and look for “properties”. We need the "access" tab.

All that remains is to launch the resulting Wi-Fi network of your own design. To do this we need to open the command line. Click the “Start” button and enter CMD in the search field. It will find one item that we need.

We click on it - this is it. The launch is carried out by entering the command: netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without a dot at the end). If you want to stop the flow of traffic, then write the same line, but instead of “Start” write “Stop”. To view the current state of the network, enter the same long-suffering line, but change “Start” to “Show”. You must have administrator rights for this PC. Otherwise, all your work will go down the drain. As you can see, distribute the Internet with windows laptop 7 is not that difficult at all.

We distribute WiFi in Windows. Let's look at how you can distribute Wi-Fi without a router, using a standard Windows tools XP, 7, 8, 10..

In order to distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop or desktop computer on Windows XP, we.

What you need to connect Wi-Fi at home

Today, most modern apartments and houses are equipped with wireless Wi-Fi, which allows all computers and mobile gadgets. If you don’t have Wi-Fi at home yet, then most likely you opened this article to remedy the situation.
So, what is needed to connect? Wi-Fi at home? Below we will look at the main steps, where, in fact, you need to start to set up wireless Internet at home.

What is needed to connect Wi-Fi at home?

Step 1: concluding an agreement with the provider

You can skip this step if you already have the Internet connected to your home, but it only works via wire.

Today, Russian providers offer users three types of Internet connections: ADSL, FTTB and xPON.

You can check whether your home is connected to the services of a particular provider on the official website, where, as a rule, there is a page for checking the connection by house number. The situation is such that even in large Russian cities on sparsely populated streets in houses there is no provider equipment, which means the only option is to use ADSL, which is offered by the telephone operator (aka provider).

As a rule, on the provider’s website you are asked to choose one of the desired tariffs, each of which differs in available Internet speed and additional functions. So, as a rule, the most cheap tariff will provide limited Internet connection speed during the day and unlimited speed at night.
An expensive tariff will provide Internet without restrictions, but will also allow you to connect IP television with a certain number of free HD channels.

The choice of tariff is made solely on the basis of your financial capabilities and preferences.

But we draw your attention to the fact that if you are not going to purchase a Wi-Fi router separately, make sure that it is provided free of charge by the provider at the chosen tariff.

Having chosen a tariff, you will usually be asked to either call the provider or fill out a form to call a specialist.

Next, at the agreed time, a specialist comes to you, who enters into a service agreement with you, provides equipment, and immediately connects it (the task is easier if the provider provides its own router).

    Step 2: purchasing a Wi-Fi router

If you have a wired Internet connection or if you were not provided with this equipment when concluding an agreement with your provider, you must purchase it separately.

If you purchase a router separately, then this task must be approached with all responsibility, taking into account many nuances when choosing. How to choose the right one Wi-Fi router for the home, has already been described on our website.

Step3: connecting the router to the computer

So, you have everything to set up the Internet - all that remains is to configure it.

Who can tell me how to make WiFi without a router?

Until the router is configured, Wi-Fi will not work on it. You first need to connect the router to your computer.

Read also: How to connect a router to a computer

Step 4: Setting up the router

Depending on the selected router manufacturer and your provider, the router settings may differ. But you need to start by visiting the router’s web interface.

Read also: How to enter the settings of a TP-Link router

Once you log into the router interface, you need to configure your wireless network. In this case, most routers are equipped with a function for quickly setting up a wireless network, from which you only need to specify the login and password for the network (it is specified in the agreement with the provider, but this data is not always provided), as well as specify the name of the wireless network and the security key.

If you find it difficult to complete self-configuration router, you have two ways to solve the problem: either search the Internet for the setup process specifically for your router model, or call your provider, who, as a rule, can help you set up a wireless network.

    And a small summary

The article is very approximate; it is, rather, a further plan of action. As you can see, in the process Wi-Fi connections there is nothing complicated at home, but if you have any difficulties, leave your comments and we can help answer your questions.

How to create a WiFi access point using Windows 7. Instructions, step by step with illustrations. Although people are mostly interested in the question of how to make a laptop a wifi access point, it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a laptop or a regular one desktop computer. Creating a wifi hotspot is the same in both cases.

How to create a WiFi hotspot on Windows 7

We need to create a software wifi router based on Windows 7 that will receive the Internet in some way and be able to distribute this Internet via wifi.

    What do we need?

    • Windows 7 Basic or higher. Windows 7 Starter (initial) will not work. More precisely, on Windows 7 Starter you will have to solve the routing issue using a third-party program ( for Windows 7 Starterseparate note at the end of the article).
    • Old wifi adapter. For example, for this article I used USB wifi adapter TP-Link TL-WN722NC.
    • Internet connection. For this article, a GSM connection was used through the MTS operator (MTS USB modem). But it can be any connection - PPPoE, VPN, Dail-Up, Ethernet, WiFi.

The first step is to install the wifi adapter, if it is not already installed, and make sure that it is turned on and working.

After this, you need to check whether the “WLAN AutoConfiguration Service” service is running. Usually its launch mode is “Manual”, which means it can be stopped. If you plan to use created point access constantly, it is better to switch this service to the “Automatic” startup mode.

You also need to check that the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service also has an Automatic startup mode.

You also need to check that the service "Routing and remote access"The launch mode was also "Automatic".

And for this service to work. There may be situations when the startup type of this service is set to auto, but when Windows 7 starts, it stops and, accordingly, others in this case will not receive the Internet.

Read more about this in another article - "Routing and remote service" Windows access 7 stops."

These checks are done through "Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services".

After this, you need to open the Windows console (cmd.exe) with administrator rights. This can be done through the menu "Start - Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt", then right mouse button and "Run as administrator".

In the console, type and execute the command:

    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="winap" key="123456789" keyusage=persistent.

Instead of winap And 123456789 enter your access point name and password:

Note. Important! The password must be at least 8 characters long, this is a requirement for the WPA2 security type that is used in Windows when creating an access point. It is better not to use the Cyrillic alphabet in your password. Letter case matters - A And A These are different symbols!

Next, check that the connection for the access point has been created. Open "Start - Run - ncpa.cpl" and after opening the "Network Connections" window, in this window find the wireless connection for which the physical adapter is not specified:

Right-click, then "Properties" and look there - it should be "MicroSoft Virtual Miniport Adapter":

At the same time, you can remove unnecessary connections and protocols.

Immediately rename this connection in ncpa.cpl - for example, to “winAP”:

Next, here, in ncpa.cpl, you need to share (enable Windows ICS) the Internet connection. Select this connection, right button - “Properties”, “Access” tab. Enable ICS and specify the connection to which the Internet will be distributed - to the wifi connection of the access point ("winAP"):

Now you need to connect to the Internet. Or reconnect if the connection was established previously.

After that, type in the console and execute the command:

    netsh wlan start hostednetwork.

That's it, the access point should already be working. Now you can connect the client to this access point (this illustration is from the client’s computer):

How to connect a wifi client to:

    Client connected:

On the computer where the access point is running, you can check its status. To do this, enter the command in the console:

    netsh wlan show hostednetwork

It can be seen that one client is connected.

Stopping an access point with a command netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Complete destruction of the access point by command netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

If you want the access point to turn on automatically when booting Windows, then the start command needs to be added to autorun. It's about the team netsh wlan start hostednetwork. The command can be written into a cmd script; you must specify “Run as Administrator” in the properties of this script. Then include the script in autorun.

It is necessary that the connection to the Internet is also established when Windows starts.

Otherwise, you will have an access point, but there will be no Internet through it.

Of course this is a very simple access point. But everything is at hand. No third party programs needed. Just Windows 7. And everything can be configured in a couple of minutes. Yes, there are programs like Connectify and Virtual Router. However, you need to understand that they are only doing the work that is done by two teams in Windows console. These are just add-ons to the functionality of Windows 7. It’s easier to write two commands in the console than to download and install some gadgets.

Some may say that this option does not have many of the capabilities that an access point should have. Well yes, that's true. Only this is an option when you need to make a wifi router very quickly and without problems. And just like this Windows feature 7 provides - with a minimum of body movements, what is called “on the knee”, create an access point.

But if your needs are broader and deeper, if you need an access point for every day, or in complex configurations, then you don’t need to use Windows, but buy a decent one, or even a good one WiFi router. A decent WiFi router now costs less than a thousand rubles. And in such a situation, sculpting a design based on a computer and Windows is somehow absurd.

It’s another matter if you need an access point once a month, for a day or for a couple of days. Or on a business trip.

How to make Wi-Fi at home without a router?

Or on vacation. This is where Windows helps us out. You can quickly distribute the Internet via WiFi laptop on a tablet, smartphone or other laptops.

But if there is a need to make a permanent access point on a computer, then it is better to do it under Linux. This is how this is actually implemented in WiFi routers. For example, like in this article - Access Point on Ubuntu.

Hotspot on Windows 7 does not work

There is no need to swear at Microsoft, at Windows - in general, look for the guilty on the side. The problem in such cases Always on your own computer (or laptop). It could be:

    • Drivers for the WiFi adapter on which you are creating an access point.
    • The WiFi adapter itself.
    • You did something wrong.
    • Any "left" services or drivers/programs that use the WiFi adapter or USB port (if your adapter is connected via USB).
    • You have Windows 7 Starter.
    • One of the necessary services has stopped, for example, see the article "Windows 7 Routing and Remote Access service stops."

For example, in the process Windows startup The WiFi adapter driver can put the adapter into standby mode. And when Windows starts the service hostednetwork the adapter does not wake up.

Under normal conditions WiFi adapter and if you haven’t messed up your Windows with crooked programs and drivers, everything will work fine.

In general, always look for the source of the problem on your computer.

    WiFi network protection

Read more about protecting your access point in a separate article.

Access point on Windows 7 Starter (initial)

Microsoft did something weird with it. ICS is blocked on it, but you can create an access point as such. Paradox. Why do you need a hostednetwork mechanism if there is no routing? Be that as it may, you can make a wifi access point on Windows 7 Starter. You just need to find a program with which to perform routing between the Internet and winAP interfaces. There are many options here, for example you can use a proxy server, like 3proxy.

Technology wireless internet networks have become a part of life quite tightly modern man. We constantly hear words such as Wi-Fi, router, 3G, and others, one way or another related to Internet technologies. The Internet is used almost everywhere: in shops, in transport, in cafes and restaurants, in public places equipped with wireless points access, but with a little effort, you can organize home wifi internet so that any existing device can be connected to the Internet anywhere in the apartment. This is not at all difficult to do, and with some time skills it will only take a few minutes.

Features of organizing a wireless network

Typically, when connecting to a WiFi access point, it is assumed that a connection will be made to global network and Internet access. This is not entirely true. A wireless connection is the same as combining computers or other devices into a local computer network, as well as using cables. The only difference is the technology. Naturally, combining home resources with the resources of the Internet provider and accessing the Internet will additional benefit, but this is far from the only area of application home WiFi. As an example, when used home Wi-Fi only for internal needs, this is the organization of a media server on which movies, music or photos are stored, and to which all users of the home network can connect for viewing.

In order to make a wireless network for the home, inexpensive access points or Wi-Fi routers are usually used. When organizing a wireless network, there are several factors to consider:

    • data transfer speed within the network;
    • protection against unauthorized access;
    • range of the access point, i.e. transmitter power;
    • location of the access point in the apartment.

Considering these factors, you can organize a wireless network anywhere with maximum efficiency. Very important point is correct location transmitter indoors. If organized wired network, then each device or computer is connected via wires, and the connection speed is affected only by their quality and length. Wireless networks are a little more complicated. Radio signals are transmitted through the air and may cause interference as they travel. This interference depends on the material and thickness of the walls, on the finishing material, on the power of the transmitter; interference can also arise from objects located in the apartment.

The optimal location for the router is approximately in the middle of the apartment and as high as possible towards the ceiling. Usually this is a place in the corridor, at a point equidistant from the rest of the rooms. This placement will ensure the most uniform distribution of the signal over the entire area. Of course, you can put the router on the table or system unit in one of the rooms, but then you should not expect that the signal will be the same strength throughout the apartment.

The speed of information transfer on the network depends on the selected WiFi standard - 802.11b/g/n. Modern models routers and mobile devices support all communication standards.

How to make your computer distribute Wi-Fi instead of a router: Complete instructions

In the standard with index n, the speed will reach 150 Mbit/s under ideal conditions. But it is also worth considering the fact that if a client that does not support the n standard and works, for example, on 802.11g connects to the router, then automatically all devices on the network will switch to operating in this mode, i.e. will operate at speeds up to 54 Mbit/s.

Connecting and setting up a router

Typically, almost all Internet providers provide their customers with wired Internet access. This means that the apartment is routed from the provider’s managed switch twisted pair to the client's apartment. In this case, the function of the provider is only to provide access to the Internet or to the resources of its network. Not many providers help their clients with services for setting up routers or organizing a home network, or such services are provided on a paid basis. Actually set it up home wifi internet easier than it seems. To do this, you need to adhere to the following algorithm, which is suitable in most cases:

    • Internet access is configured according to the settings issued by the provider;
    • Internet television (IPTV) is configured if such a service is provided by the provider;
    • wired connections are configured (by and large, only internal IP addresses are changed if desired);
    • setup is in progress wireless connection by specifying the access point ID and security parameters;
    • changing the password to enter the router configuration page;
    • access policies are configured, such as port forwarding, access to resources and various servers.

The settings of each router are purely individual, but the operating algorithm described above is suitable for each of them.

If the router is not new, but has already been used for connection, then before setting it up you need to reset the installed configurations to the factory ones. On each router, this is done by pressing and holding the “Reset” button for 10-15 seconds. This button is located on the back panel, where the cable connectors are located. On some models, the reset button may be located on the bottom.

To understand whether the configuration has been reset, just pay attention to the power indicator on the front panel. It should blink frequently.

If you are not sure what address you need to enter in the browser in order to get to the settings page, just turn the router over and “peep” this information. A plate or sticker must be attached to the bottom, on which the router address, user name and access password are written. There is also information about the device address, which may be required if the provider filters clients by MAC. Detailed settings routers with concrete examples settings can be found on the Internet or on this website.

Laptops are mainly used to distribute Wi-Fi, since they have a wireless network adapter. Connecting the host device to the Internet is done using Ethernet cable, and all other devices are connected via Wi-Fi. A router is not required.

Activating a connection using standard Windows tools

Open the Windows Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing Center. Select the first item in the list available options. In the window that appears, select the penultimate link and click “Next”. Specify the required parameters: connection name, encryption type and password used for the connection.

Check the box at the bottom of the window to save the settings on the computer you are using. Proceed to the next step and enable file sharing on your hard drive and current Internet connection. Other properties can be specified using the link to change sharing settings on the left side of the network settings menu.

Important! To organize a local network, do not forget to activate discovery of connected devices.

How to distribute Wi-Fi through the console

If your laptop or computer adapter supports virtual router mode, you can distribute the Internet through console commands. To open it, right-click on the Start menu icon. Select the “Run” line and find the menu responsible for opening the command prompt in administrator mode.

When working through an administrative account, you will need to grant the system the necessary permissions. To do this, click “Yes” in the User Account Control (UAC) window. If the current account does not have administrative powers, you will need to enter the password for the main system account.

Enter the command shown in the following screenshot, changing the parameters as you wish. Available options:

    • SSID - the name of the wireless network under which it will be displayed in general list connections.
    • Key - Wi-Fi password used for authentication.

Pay attention! This method also allows you to set up your computer as a repeater (wireless signal repeater).

After this, a new virtual adapter will appear in the list of devices, which will distribute Wi-Fi. Open properties, and then allow other computers to connect to the Internet through it. Then enter the command “netsh wlan start hostednetwork” in the Windows console. New network will be activated and you can connect to it from another computer, tablet or smartphone.

Wi-Fi distribution via Switch Virtual Router

The computer can distribute Wi-Fi through third-party utilities. One such program is Switch Virtual Router. The main interface fields include SSID, password and wireless network settings. The application can be launched every time the operating system boots, and when the “Minimize to tray” setting is activated, it further work becomes invisible to the user.

So, dear readers of our online magazine, in this article we will share four simple and quick ways to “share” a laptop’s Internet connection via Wi-Fi. In other words, we can easily turn our Windows 7 computer into Wi-Fi hotspot.

    How does this work?

Any Wi-Fi network The card can be used to transmit a wired Internet signal via the Wi-Fi protocol. To implement this task, you need some kind of virtual bridge or router connecting network devices. operating room Windows system 7 contains built-in capabilities to access a wired Internet connection through devices connected via a wireless protocol. However, now there is also software, with which you can literally set up a real Wi-Fi point on your own computer in just one click. In this article we will offer several methods, but the choice is yours!

Wi-Fi access point using standard Windows 7 methods

Most obvious way to turn a laptop into a Wi-Fi point is to use the standard function of creating a new WiFi connections Computer-Computer, which allows you to open access to local files and the Internet connection to all computers and devices connected via WiFi.

Go to Network and Sharing Center by clicking on the network icon in the system Tray at the bottom right and selecting the appropriate item:

The security type is the type of connection security. The recommended type is WPA2-Personal. It requires entering a password between 8 and 63 characters long. In case if your external WiFi device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) the network will not be found, or the connection will be interrupted, You can change the security type to WEP(requires 5-digit password), or open ("No authentication"), that is, without encryption and password.

Click Next and your access point will be created. You may also need to enable access to your computer's Internet connection over the network. To do this, go to the Network and Sharing Center, then in the menu on the left “Change adapter settings” and call up the properties of the Wireless network connection. On the “Access” tab, check the “Allow other network users to use this computer’s Internet connection” checkbox:

Due to the ease of setup and quick activation/deactivation this method best suited for temporary and fast connection with various devices.

Setting up a Wi-Fi access point using the Windows Command Line

If you are familiar with the Windows Command Line, then I think it will be easy and simple for you to create WiFi connection using two simple console commands.

First of all, you need to run Command line on behalf of the Administrator. To do this, open Start and type “cmd” in the search. In the search results, click on the icon cmd right click and select " Run as Administrator«:

    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YourSSID key=YourPassword keyusage=persistent

Where YourSSID— Network name, and YourPassword- password. After this, with the following command we enable the configured network:

    netsh wlan start hostednetwork

You can break the connection with the following command:

    netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Automatic creation of a Wi-Fi point using a Batch file

All the actions specified in the previous subsection can be easily automated by writing a small script. All we need is to open Notepad (via the Start menu) and enter a few lines there:

    @echo off
    CLS
    :MENU
    ECHO.
    ECHO —————————————————
    ECHO.
ECHO Press 1, 2, or 3 to select your task, or 4 to Exit.
    ECHO —————————————————
    ECHO.
ECHO 1 - Set Wifi Sharing Attributes
ECHO 2 - Start WiFi Sharing
ECHO 3 - Stop WiFi Sharing
    ECHO 4 - Exit
    ECHO.
    SET /P M=Type 1, 2, 3, or 4, then press ENTER:
    IF %M%==1 GOTO SET
    IF %M%==2 GOTO START
    IF %M%==3 GOTO STOP
    IF %M%==4 GOTO EOF
    :SET
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YourSSID key=YourPassword keyusage=persistent
    GOTO MENU
    :START
    netsh wlan start hostednetwork
    GOTO MENU
    :STOP
    netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
    GOTO MENU

Again, instead of values YourSSID And YourPassword enter your connection name and password values. Save the file under any name and Necessarily specify extension ".bat". All you have to do is run the script as Administrator and follow the instructions on the command line screen.

Virtual Wi-Fi hotspot using third-party applications

There are a huge number of applications that allow you to turn your laptop into a virtual WiFi router. We will not consider this countless number, but will dwell a little on a wonderful program called Connectify Hot Spot PRO. The application is distributed on a paid basis.

Connectify Hot Spot allows you to connect to virtual point access both mobile devices of various platforms and computers of various operating systems. The program is easy to set up. All you need to indicate is Network name(Hotspot Name) password(Password) and, in fact, network adapter (Internet To Share), from which Internet access will be opened. After starting with the “Start Hotspot” button on the “Clients” tab, you can view connected or recently connected devices.

    Conclusion

There are many different uses Wi-Fi points access, except for opening access to the Internet for Wi-Fi devices and computers. However, we hope that any of the methods we described will help you cope with the task posed in this article. Find the best one for yourself and don't forget to like!
