Adding text to a shape in Microsoft Word. How to Install New Shapes in Photoshop

This tutorial will help you install new shapes for the version of Photoshop.

Note: screenshots operating system Windows 10, Photoshop CC 2017. For others Photoshop versions the algorithm will be the same.

Open Set Management

To get started, download the file with the new figures from the Internet and unzip it if it is zipped.

Next, open Photoshop CS6 and go to the main menu at the top of the screen to the tab Editing -Sets- Set management(Edit - Preset Manager). The following window will appear:

Button below the number 1 (in the form of a small arrow) allows you to select the type of add-on you want to install - brushes, textures, shapes, styles etc.

Button below the number 2 (in the form of a gear) shows the types of addition.

Loading Shapes into Photoshop

Click on the small black arrow and from the list that appears, by pressing the left mouse button, select the type of add-on - Custom figures(Custom Shapes):

A new window appears. Here you indicate the address of the downloaded file with figures. This file is located on your desktop or placed in special folder for downloaded add-ons. In my case, the file is located in the "Styles" folder on the desktop:

Press again Download(Load)

Photoshop is a raster image editor, but its functionality also includes the ability to create vector shapes. Vector shapes consist of primitives (points and lines) and fill. In fact it's vector outline, filled with some color.

   The number of corners is also adjustable in the options bar. Please note that the setting contains the parameter "Parties". Don't let this fact mislead you.

   

5. Line.
   With this tool we can draw a straight line in any direction. Key SHIFT V in this case allows you to draw lines at 90 or 45 degrees relative to the canvas.

   

   The line thickness is adjusted in the same place - on the parameters panel.

   

6. Any figure.
   Tool "Free figure" gives us the ability to create free-form shapes contained in a set of shapes.

   

   A standard Photoshop set containing arbitrary shapes can also be found at top panel instrument settings.

General Tool Settings

As we already know, most of the shape settings are found in the top options bar. The settings below apply equally to all instruments in the group.

The following settings allow you to perform various, rather complex, manipulations with figures, so let's talk about them in more detail.

Shape Manipulation

These manipulations are possible only if at least one shape is already present on the canvas (layer). Below it will become clear why this happens.

This item allows, after performing one or more previous operations, to combine all the contours into one solid figure.

Practice

The practical part of today's lesson will be a set of chaotic actions aimed only at seeing how the tool settings work in action. This will already be enough to understand the principles of working with figures.

So, practice.

1. First, let's create a regular square. To do this, select a tool "Rectangle", hold down the key SHIFT and pull from the center of the canvas. You can use guides for ease of use.

2. Then select a tool "Ellipse" and settings item "Subtract front figure". Now we will cut out a circle in our square.

3. Click once on any place on the canvas and, in the dialog box that opens, enter the dimensions of the future “hole”, and also check the box next to the item "From the center". The circle will be created exactly in the center of the canvas.

4. Click OK and we see the following:

5. Next we need to combine all the components, creating a solid figure. To do this, select the appropriate item in the settings. In this case, this is not necessary, but if the circle extended beyond the boundaries of the square, our figure would consist of two working contours.

6. Change the color of the figure. From the lesson we know which setting is responsible for filling. There is another, faster and more practical way to change colors. You need to double-click on the thumbnail of the layer with the shape and, in the color settings window, select the desired shade. In this way you can fill the shape with any solid color.

Accordingly, if required gradient fill or pattern, then use the parameters panel.

7. Let's set the stroke. To do this, let's look at the block "Hatch" in the options panel. Here we select the stroke type "Dotted line" and use the slider to change its size.

How to insert a photo into Word

Let's look at an example of inserting an image from a file on your computer:

• Left click on text document to indicate where to insert your image. The text cursor will be located at the click location.
• On the tab Insert in section Illustrations click the button Drawings.
• In the window that opens, select the folder with the photo or drawing. Highlight required file and click the Insert button.

The image will appear in your document.

You can insert an image into a document by simply dragging it with the mouse from the folder to the desired location. You can also use Ctrl +C And Ctrl+V

The inserted image may take up the entire width of the page. If you need to make it smaller, click on it. The picture will be highlighted with a frame (see picture below). Now, using the mouse to grab any corner (circle 7) of the image, drag it to the center of the photo.

For a reduced picture, you need to set its position relative to the text and page. Press button 8 and in the list of marking parameters that appears, specify the desired position. Also set the anchor to a paragraph or to a page (switches 9).

Images from the Internet

This tool will help you save time searching for a suitable image, while respecting the copyright for use in your document. Clicking on the tool button will take you to the Bing search window. Enter keyword to search and press Enter or the magnifying glass icon.

Images in the search can be filtered by four parameters: size, type, color and license. Select one or more found images and click the button Insert.

Filter by size occurs based on the parameters of the width or length of the image in pixels:

• Small - images up to 200 pixels in any dimension.
• Medium - from 200 to 500 pixels.
• Large - from 500 to 1000 pixels.
• Very large - all images with a side length greater than 1000 pixels.

Filter by type:

• Photography - any photographic images.
• Pictures - drawn images or edited photos.
• Line drawings are not colored drawings.
• Transparent - pictures without background.

Filter by color: here you just choose color scheme for drawings and you get pictures with a predominance of the selected color.

Geometric shapes and circuit elements

The Shapes section in Word contains a large library of ready-made graphic elements for constructing new images and diagrams.

To draw a shape, select it from the library and hold left button mouse, stretch it on the sheet until required sizes.

Hold the button Shift to obtain the correct figure while maintaining proportional dimensions (circle, square, etc.).

After creating a shape, you can change it. Click on the shape. It will be highlighted with a frame. The circular arrow at the top allows you to rotate the shape to an arbitrary angle. White circles (squares) adjust the size of the autoshape. Some shapes may have several auxiliary elements - a yellow circle (diamond in previous versions). What is a free figure?

How to install your shapes in Photoshop?

You can install a set of figures into your program yourself. The same principles apply here as, for example, with or. To install them, first, download a set of figures to your computer. Such sets have the extension csh.

Selecting "Replace...", everything will be the same, except that new figures will not appear at the end of the list, but will completely replace those that already exist. For example, you initially had sets with animals and arrows loaded in the list, and you decided to open with a replacement set of ornaments. As a result, only ornaments will be on the list.

And if you have loaded several sets, delete any individual figures using the command "Delete…", in general, if you have made a set for yourself, you can save it with the command "Save custom...". In the future it will be possible to download it in the same form or transfer it to someone via the Internet.

Last command "Restore arbitrary..." allows you to return everything to default.

Please note that in the same menu there is a huge list: Animals, Arrows, Nature, Objects, etc. These are standard sets that were kindly provided to us by the Photoshop developers.

Second installation method with additional benefit

Arbitrary shapes can still be set directly in system files Photoshop.

This is a little more difficult to do, but the main advantage of this method is that your set will appear in the list that I described above (Animals, Arrows, Nature, Objects, etc.). If you intend to use this tool often, then this installation method will reduce time, and you will be able to choose the right set in two clicks.
