• We make an Acer monoblock from a laptop. All-in-one or laptop: which is better? What is the difference between a candy bar and a laptop?

The first question that headlines the article often requires incredibly broad consideration. Because there is simply no clear answer to it. And yet the key point of a successful acquisition is the same expediency of choice. However, superficial knowledge of the computer field is unlikely to help you resolve the dilemma: all-in-one or laptop? Perhaps for you, dear reader, as for many other ordinary users, the compactness and mobility of a device mean the same thing. We hasten to assure you, ladies and gentlemen, this is an erroneous opinion and, by definition, incorrect. And in order to dispel all doubts and come to a truly correct decision, you just need to read this article, from which you will learn about the weak and strengths both laptop and desktop computers. You will understand what is paramount to you and what can be considered an unnecessary luxury.

All-in-one or laptop: clarity of choice

Of course, the first thing a person needs to do is ask the question: “Why do I need a computer?” The second thing the buyer needs to pay attention to is: how promising is the future acquisition? As a rule, financial limitations act as a constraining element in the ongoing project “I need just such a computer.” In the latter case, the way out of this situation can be considered a purchase budget model one or another type of PC. Undoubtedly, such a circumstance will affect both the quality of the product and its functionality. The uniqueness of the design and the thoroughness of the usability of the device will be a big question mark.

More specifically about the subject of conversation

So what is the difference between a candy bar and a laptop? Essentially, these are two representatives of compactness. That is, computers whose design feature is the combination of all interacting components into one whole. The only difference can be considered the keyboard, since in monoblocks it is displayed separately. However, provided that a computing device of this type is equipped touch display, the individual sign of difference is solely the form factor of the device body. At the same time, the dominant diagonal of the monitor and the unique design of the all-in-one can mislead the uninitiated user. How?

Of course, the beauty of execution and simplicity of the solution. Add to all this the consumer’s predisposition to purchase a stationary computing device and the “beneficial” influence of a nearby woman... and soon a conflict may occur in the family. Built-in camera, modules wireless communication and stereo speakers will not save the situation, which can be characterized by the phrase: “Why did I pay that kind of money?!” Because when considering the question “all-in-one or laptop - which is better,” representatives of the stronger half of humanity will pay attention to the price-quality ratio of equipment. IN in this case- provided that the devices belong to the same budget category, the price of a laptop will be significantly lower, and in terms of functionality and data processing speed, the superiority of the latter is “very obvious.” Draw your conclusions, ladies and gentlemen!

    Computers for image

The above example, although full of irony, is still close to the truth. After all, looking at exquisitely shaped electronics, one involuntarily feels the desire to become the owner of such an exclusive device. For the average consumer, the choice of “all-in-one or laptop” is quite predictable... The average buyer leans towards affordable price for optimal performance. But people whose status does not allow them to buy cheap things certainly focus their attention on image technology.

All-in-one iMac on the table general director of a reputable company is an integral attribute, a symbol of the organization’s prestige. An office of a large company without thorough Apple products (meaning desktop PCs) on the secretary's desk loses its business-like interior. At the same time, the guaranteed quality and amazing high-end functionality in iMac all-in-one PCs will not leave even an avid gamer indifferent. However, a traditional desktop for a gamer is more attractive than a candy bar prone to overheating. And electronic toys are becoming more and more “gluttonous” every year... From now on, more details in the next section.

What is preferable - an all-in-one PC or a laptop for gaming?

It's no secret that modern games have become incredibly demanding system resources computer. Realistic graphics and complex graphic calculations require the use of a powerful video card and no less “capable” central processor. By definition, budget and multimedia class devices cannot meet the above parameters. Desktop system (specified PC type) with game configuration will cost much more than a mobile laptop option. The only advantage of monoblocks (in the context of this section) can be considered increased comfort during use.

Of course, a wireless keyboard can level the playing field for competing devices. However, the design and multimedia capabilities of a candy bar are in a more advantageous position than a laptop. As a rule, the interface-equipment in desktop systems is more variable. Laptops, of course, are inferior to the remote benefits and ease of use of an all-in-one computer. But the autonomy of a laptop can become an undeniable advantage in the selection process. As you understand, it all depends on the user’s preferences and his financial ability, as well as...

What is easier to upgrade: all-in-one PC or laptop?

What is better to buy if the user expects the device to be practical? The answer is simple: a laptop! But if for the user mobility is not a decisive factor, and the aesthetics of the device is a predominant component, it may well happen that a buyer with unlimited finances will still opt for an all-in-one PC. A stylish desktop computer is being upgraded according to the same scenario as laptops:

    • The process of disassembling the housing of a computing device.
    • Installing a more powerful processor.
    • Expanding RAM by adding memory sticks.
    • It is possible to replace the hard drive with a larger drive.

If you are still in doubt about what to buy: an all-in-one computer or a laptop, user reviews can provide you with an invaluable service. Ahead of events, let's turn our attention to optimal choice. Let us touch upon the advantages of two representatives of computer technology.

    A laptop for all occasions

Let's say the buyer does not have large in cash. And the issue of purchasing a computer is particularly acute and requires immediate resolution. It makes sense to educate the reader about portable computing devices, which are commonly called budget devices. By the way, this option is most suitable for school students and people who, in general, are not picky in terms of functionality. Ordinary desktop computer, monoblock or laptop - all these devices can equally be used as an office machine. However, here we will look at a laptop with an average configuration.

    • Typically, the display of this class of devices measures 15″.
    • The electronic machine is equipped with a special DVD/CD-RW drive for reading and writing optical media.
    • Budget class laptops are equipped with interface connectors: USB, VGA and even HDMI. Some modifications have a card reader. IN mandatory Headphone jacks and an RJ-45 port are provided.
    • Literally everything modern models are equipped with built-in cameras for video communication sessions. It goes without saying that the integrated optics can be used for photo and video shooting.
    • Volume installed hard disk varies from 250-350 GB.
    • The video card is usually integrated, which puts a monoblock (or laptop) of a budget class at one level of importance.
    • The dual-core processor allows you to perform a wide range of office tasks.
    • As a rule, 2 GB is installed on board an office machine RAM.

All-in-One PC to replace the traditional desktop

The main advantage of the device mentioned in the title is its unique, one might say, unique design. Some models have touch control. One of the variations (15-19 inches) of the display surface will pleasantly please the new owner with its graphic capabilities. The budget configuration presented below will allow you to resolve the question: “What to choose - an all-in-one PC or a laptop?”

    • The computer is equipped with a dual-core processor (up to 2.7 MHz).
    • Integrated video card (up to 2 GB).
    • Optic DVD-RW drive with vertical loading of disks.
    • A hard drive of such modifications can reach a capacity of 1 TB.
    • RAM from 4 to 8 GB.

So, the candy bar may well become a harmonious continuation of the traditional desktop. Minimum connecting cords, compactness of the device and maximum comfort when used, these are the inherent advantages of this type of electronics. However, there is another option for stationary portability...

Perhaps someone had an old laptop lying around, the matrix of which was broken, and the issue of replacement was resolved by the rational purchase of a new portable device. Under such circumstances, you can try to make a monoblock yourself.

    • You need to integrate the LCD monitor with the main part of the laptop. Take advantage of special information resources, fortunately there are enough of them today.
    • By connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse, you will get a full-fledged candy bar.

    In conclusion

If you still haven’t fully figured out your own preferences, follow a few tips:

    • The monoblock lacks autonomy and mobility, but it looks incredibly advantageous. Attractive design- this is the main feature of such devices.
    • A laptop, in terms of comparison with a desktop system, is significantly cheaper.
    • The candy bar is inferior in performance to a laptop, if we consider the mutual identity of the class of devices.

Listen to your desire and act wisely. All the best to you and rational purchasing!

Monoblock, laptop or desktop: choosing a home PC

Once upon a time Steve Jobs predicted the post-PC era - this is when people will abandon home computers and use either tablets or limit themselves to specialized electronics: smartphone, TV, game console. However, the emerging growth in the share of tablets has rapidly declined. People have returned to the home PC format, but not everyone actually prefers the classic option: system unit + monitor.

    Classic desktop

This is the kind of computer that everyone is used to seeing - a standing or lying down system unit, next to (or on it). The system unit contains all the main components - the motherboard, processor, hard drives, video card.

The main advantage of this classic desktop format is its high versatility and upgradeability. That is, you can safely replace almost any element, unlike all other methods. Again - you have the freedom to choose your monitor or you can use multiple monitors without special problems. True, the mutual compatibility of the hardware will also have to be taken into account. A new generation of processors can use a completely different slot - that is, the motherboard can be immediately replaced, and along with it (preferably, and sometimes necessarily) memory, power supply, and case.

    Lenovo Legion Y920 Gaming Desktop

The disadvantage of desktops is their relatively large dimensions and a tangle of wires. Of course, you can use a wireless mouse and keyboard, but for now you still have to connect the monitor with a wire - more precisely, even with two wires: power and video signal. Add here wired internet if you need maximum performance networks. Webcam - if you need video chats. Some accessories - and now the web is woven.

The main advantage of desktops is that such computers have the highest performance/price ratio. Although, in lately the situation is leveling out, but still they remain the cheapest.

However, if you really want to save money, you will have to collect everything yourself. For an “advanced user” this is not a problem, but not everyone has enough time to understand the insides of a computer and the features of their interaction.

    Mini PC

As an alternative to a large system unit, there are miniature computers, sometimes also called nettops (). True, their only advantage is that they are miniature. Well, they also usually have lower power consumption - this is also worth adding as a plus (desktops in conjunction with a monitor, on the contrary, have the highest power consumption).

Mini PC Mac mini with monitor

However, high-performance mini-PCs, although available, are quite expensive - even more expensive than laptops. The same Mac mini from Apple costs about 50 thousand rubles, but if the old models could replace a full-fledged PC, today this is more difficult, and prices have risen. There are even gaming Mini-PCs, but the prices there are about 100 thousand rubles and higher.

Additionally, mini-PCs lose their versatility - it is almost impossible to replace anything in them. Unless, change the HDD or memory sticks. However, there is some alternative to mini-PCs - barebones. They already have customization closer to the level of desktops, while they are still relatively small. However, the price for the housing alone can be quite high.

    Monoblock

The monitor is in the same case as the computer. Or, more precisely, even like this - a computer in a monitor case. In fact, not all manufacturers know how to make such things really powerful so that they can replace a desktop, however, not all users need high performance ().

The best all-in-one PCs- this, of course, Apple iMac and Microsoft Surface Studio. The latter, however, are very expensive, but iMacs are not cheap (even the minimum version with a 21.5-inch screen). The advantage of the latter is that they are made in a really thin case, even by the standards of monitors, and even have a built-in power supply. Therefore, the iMac collects a minimum of wires on the table, given that it comes with wireless keyboard and the mouse. You just need to plug it into a power outlet, and that’s the maximum - network cable to the router. Although, in latest models Wi-Fi is fast enough to get by without it.

Apple iMac, mouse and keyboard included

Regular “office” all-in-one PCs already come with external unit power supply, although, as a rule, the mouse and keyboard (mainly - wireless models) almost all manufacturers equip them. Therefore, for an undemanding user, a monoblock is the most optimal solution: it takes up little space, is relatively cheap, and does not create unnecessary tangles of wires.

The disadvantage of monoblocks is that if something breaks, simply replacing the part will not fix it. You need to take the entire candy bar to a service center. Also, many all-in-one PCs have a problem with upgrading - if the same old iMacs can be opened (although this was not a job for the average user), now you can only replace the RAM.

    Laptop

Once upon a time, laptops were simply an addition to the main computer, or as a necessary purchase for travel. Today, some users limit themselves only to a laptop. In fact, their performance has long been sufficient, in some cases. If necessary, work on big screen- you can connect it to a monitor, a TV, or a projector. At the same time, mobility is in place, and it is also a free “replacement” of the UPS - that is, if the lights at home are turned off (using mobile communications, For example).

In stores you can find laptops for every taste. From light and thin to large and powerful. However, light and thin can also be powerful -.

    HP Omen X Gaming Laptop

The advantages of laptops are, respectively, portability, battery operation, and relatively high cost on the secondary market (especially for any MacBook).

The disadvantages of laptops are not so clear. In the sense that they are all quite different and if small and light ones, as a rule, are characterized by the almost complete impossibility of replacing even RAM and hard drive, then large ones are quite susceptible to upgrade. Although, you still can’t change the processor and motherboard, of course.

The price is also ambiguous. If you don’t chase minimal dimensions and high autonomy, then, according to our observations, a desktop with similar hardware costs only 5–10 thousand less than a laptop. This is exactly the price of a monitor, we would even say a very mediocre monitor.

    Microcomputer

This subtype of PC is still not taken seriously by many, but they have already won the right to life. Computers with flash drives, computers the size of a credit card - all of this can really be used if you need the Internet, an office, and viewing media content (movies, music) from a PC. Moreover, it is quite possible to program on microcomputers, especially for the web, or at least learn programming. Again, a microcomputer can be a great choice for a child

    Intel microcomputer

The main advantage of microcomputers is that they are incredibly compact and very cheap. Therefore, a flash drive computer like Intel Compute Stick You can always take it with you. Connect it anywhere to a monitor or TV, and take any mouse or keyboard. There are even special compact Bluetooth keyboards with a trackpad or trackball - this is enough to view media.

Raspberry Pi microcomputer. The case, power adapter, radiators need to be purchased separately - a kind of construction kit

And microcomputers like Raspberry Pi can be used for anything - from teaching a child to program to creating home web server, game console for retro games, media player. Thanks to their low cost, you can buy a new microcomputer for each task or even assemble them into clusters to increase overall performance.

    Total

If we summarize all of the above, it turns out that, of course, the cheapest and most versatile PC is a classic desktop. True, the phrase “cheapest” does not take into account the cost of the monitor and input devices (mouse, keyboard). However, this is also the most “difficult” option. To make it really cheap, you need to completely assemble the computer yourself, and buy parts in different stores - this will be the most profitable.

If you don’t want to bother, then a laptop (if you need portability) or an all-in-one computer will be enough. Do not forget that for a long time there have been not only gaming laptops, but also gaming monoblocks. Such devices are relatively compact in the sense that they do not take up extra space and do not create a tangle of wires. Laptops will additionally provide the ability to work even in the event of a power outage (let us clarify that the source uninterruptible power supply- The UPS will not allow you to work without electricity, the charge of its batteries is only enough for you to safely, but in the shortest possible time - about 5 minutes - complete the work).

Each device - both a laptop and an all-in-one PC - is convenient in its own way, although they are intended for completely different users. The laptop gives mobility - small dimensions, lightness and autonomy, independence from external source power supply for several hours. A monoblock is, by and large, a replacement for a stationary PC - an all-in-one computer without unnecessary wires and bulky system unit. Next, we’ll tell you whether it’s better to buy an all-in-one or a laptop and for what purposes they are most suitable.

The main differences between all-in-one PCs and laptops

The all-in-one computer will have to be further equipped. To use it you will need a keyboard and mouse, preferably wireless. True, a laptop touchpad is also not the most convenient thing, so it’s often wireless mouse users also buy for laptops. But it does not need a UPS - a standard battery copes with this task perfectly.

The main differences between an all-in-one PC and a laptop:

    1. Much larger screen and better quality images.
    2. Availability touch screen and the ability to connect a full-size keyboard.
    3. The best multimedia capabilities- these devices usually have a built-in high-resolution camera, a microphone, and sometimes an analogue television viewing function is available.

In short, as an alternative to a home computer and TV, a monoblock with big screen would, of course, be preferable. You also need to take into account that, unlike a laptop, their hardware is often not special small-sized, but the most common one used in stationary PCs. This is an additional plus, giving the device greater reliability and, if necessary, fairly inexpensive repairs.

When should you buy a monoblock?

Monoblocks are better where there is too little work space for desktop computer, but you have to work a lot. This is an ideal home device for schoolchildren and students, office workers, etc. In addition, these devices look attractive - they are possible various solutions in the choice of style and design, which makes it possible to organically fit the device into almost any interior.

Upgrading an all-in-one PC, like a laptop, is very difficult, but possible. Sometimes the design provides easy access to the HDD and RAM for replacing them. In terms of RAM, however, you first need to decide what type of memory is used in your device - DIMM and SO-DIMM, because monoblocks different models can be equipped with both of these options.

    Multimedia capabilities of all-in-one PCs

All-in-one computers are also equipped with relatively good acoustics. Of course, they don’t have the same sound quality as expensive audio systems, but you definitely won’t have to buy additional speakers for work and play. But some additional devices, in addition to the mouse and keyboard, you will still need it. For example, an uninterruptible power supply. You also need to take into account the fact that not all of these devices have a touch screen, and if necessary, you can purchase a laptop with the same screen. Therefore, when comparing devices according to this parameter, we will assume that all-in-one PCs definitely win only in terms of screen size.

The touch screen of most all-in-one PCs is a nice addition, although this option cannot be called necessary today. True, some games and applications are designed specifically for the touch screen. Children will probably enjoy this feature the most.

In short, it is better to choose an all-in-one computer in the following cases:

    • when space saving and beauty come first at home appearance computer;
    • for film lovers who are not too keen modern games and not working with resource-intensive applications, for example, video and graphic editors;
    • for those who are not going to upgrade their home computer, perhaps with the exception of adding RAM or changing the disk;
    • for employees of various institutions - the device copes well with office applications and takes up little space.

In addition, the design of different monoblocks may vary. There are transformable devices, even devices with a battery, that are more reminiscent of large tablets.

    When is a laptop needed?

Laptops also have their own features and advantages. So, even the smallest candy bar takes up much less space than a regular laptop. Therefore if workplace very small, it will be more convenient to use a laptop computer. Laptops are superior to all-in-one PCs in terms of versatility - for full-fledged work no need to buy a mouse or keyboard - everything is already built in from the start.

At the same time, versatility is expressed in less ease of use - compactness entails a small screen, on which, for example, it is inconvenient to watch multimedia, a very weak speaker, and not always small comfortable keyboard. Therefore, if you are planning to purchase a desktop computer and not move it anywhere else, then an all-in-one computer will definitely be more convenient.

    Who should choose a laptop:

    • for those who, due to various circumstances, cannot remain without the Internet for a long time, office applications etc.;
    • those whose workspace does not allow for placing not only a desktop PC, but also an all-in-one PC;
    • if several people need a computer in an apartment at once, each family member can take the laptop to their room and use it in any convenient place.

The cost of all-in-one PCs and laptops of comparable power is approximately the same; laptops may cost a little more. True, manufacturers install quite serious video cards on some monoblocks, and in general, all the hardware is usually not much different from that of a large desktop computer.

My laptop is already loaded, it’s slow, and one computer at home isn’t enough. Thinking about buying a second one. What to buy? laptop too, there are now all-in-one computers, like a monitor with a keyboard, or even just a tablet. I want to buy it for myself, but I’ll give this one to my husband. I need it to run Lightroom and Photoshop. What to choose? Budget up to 40-50tr. I will most likely buy it by the summer, maybe something new will come out?

Image processing - help me choose!

Questions regarding the choice of computers, laptops and other things for photo processing have been raised more than once - I’ve already read a lot of them, but I still want to ask my questions, maybe someone can help me with the choice.. There are many apple fans and of course, everyone chooses from their capabilities and desires ..but I can’t believe that no one other than Apple has decent technology for processing photos..So, the first candidate is dell laptop 7720 s matte screen 17.3"" - chosen because of the undeniable convenience of the laptop - if you have a child, freedom of movement...

Initially, the idea to assemble an all-in-one computer on your own appeared after studying the mini-ITX range motherboards. After the ironclad past of the 90s and 00s with their large boards and heavy systems, these mini-ITX looked damn attractive. In fact, you can assemble a computer in the palm of your hand. The idea appeared, and then, as expected, it took a long time to hatch. And when time, money and desire coincided, he was born...

    Inspiration

To begin with, it was decided to look for similar projects in order to spy on solutions. After searching for quite a long time, from everything that was found, this example corresponded to my idea:

But I didn’t want to make a computer of similar quality and appearance. Firstly, I don’t have a good workshop nearby, and secondly, I wanted to make it as simple and compact as possible. The option of assembling in a case that is attached to the back of the monitor was also no longer needed. Such cases are rarely found anywhere, and assembly in such a case severely limits hardware and power supply.

    Equipment and prices

BenQ has performed well. At work, a fleet of 2,000 machines runs on similar monitors and the percentage of breakdowns is negligible. Good office internet monitor. I bought it at a flea market based on the principle of 24 inches plus DVI minus dead pixels.
    • Disk Intel 320 SSDSA2CW160G3 Manufacturer's website Ya.Market
I bought it at a flea market for reasons of price and quality, plus I was guided by reviews.

The video card had to be placed in the same plane as the motherboard.

    Gallery and description

The first step was to find suitable plywood, process it to a size “slightly less monitor" and perforated under "VESA 100"

The screws were left over from the TV bracket. For TV they went with a larger diameter, but a smaller one was just useful here. To indent from the monitor, 4 identical wide nuts were used, randomly found in a tool cabinet.

First the power supply was secured. I tried to mount it closer to the center as the heaviest element of the structure.

While inspecting the tool cabinet for something to secure the power supply, I came across an aluminum tape. As a result, the power supply is supported by two improvised runners and one fixing screw. I wouldn’t say that the structure is “tight,” but it certainly won’t fall down.

The video card is currently hanging on a PCI-Express 16X Riser Card. This adapter was originally planned, because... The video card must lie in the same plane as the mat. fee. As it turned out, it was doubly useful because the cooler blocked the PCI-E slot.

As legs for mats. boards, identically cut dowels were used. Through the board, through the dowel into the plywood with an ordinary self-tapping screw.

On this photo already working system. The video card remained hanging in the air. It is practically weightless, so it is held on by a train and secured at the bottom with a plastic clamp through two aluminum ears. SSD drive screwed to its original adapter, and it itself is still on the same aluminum corners to the plywood. The wires are nailed to the base with a construction stapler to prevent them from wandering. In some places, a plastic clamp was nailed down with a stapler and the wires were already captured with it.

The power wires from the monitor and power supply were combined into one cable with a socket at the end. For operation of the entire system from one outlet. The light bulbs and power button are temporary on wires, taken from an old system unit.

    Benchmarks and Performance

    PC Mark 7 detailed results

    Results, conclusions, feelings

The design turned out to be quite reliable and not shaky. In the future I plan to replace the button and light bulbs with something more beautiful. The computer produces virtually no noise. The noisiest element is the small cooler on the video card, and even that can only be heard in complete silence. The computer was assembled for the entertainment of parents and performs its functions with a bang. Office, Internet, films, photos and simple games. All this works on it without problems. The video card is also not the worst, so 3D games work just as well on medium settings.
