• New iPad. What is an iPad and how is it different from a tablet?

    Since 2010, 7 generations of iPad have been released, four generations iPad mini and two generations of iPad Pro:

    • iPad 1G, released in 2 varieties: Wi-Fi model and 3G model
    • iPad 2 received 4 varieties at once: a model with Wi-Fi only, a model with support for 3G GSM, a CDMA model, as well as a second revision of the Wi-Fi model
    • iPad 3 (The new iPad) had three varieties: Wi-Fi, Cellular for GSM networks and Cellular for CDMA networks
    • iPad 4 (iPad with Retina display) and iPad mini were produced in three other varieties: Wi-Fi, “global” Cellular model and “American” Cellular model
    • iPad Air, iPad mini 2 (previously sold under the name iPad mini with Retina display), iPad mini 3 and 9.7" iPad Pro are available in three varieties: a Wi-Fi model, a "global" LTE model and an "Asian" model. model with support for additional TD-LTE bands
    • iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad 5, 12.9" iPad Pro first generation and both iPad Pro second generation are produced in two varieties: a model with Wi-Fi and a universal LTE model
    • iPad Pro with Face ID has four hardware models

    The first generation iPad did not yet have a streamlined body; on the contrary, it had clearly defined side walls. Wi-Fi and 3G models can be easily distinguished by the absence or presence on the back wall of a large plastic insert for the modem antenna, as well as a tray for a SIM card.

    It differs from the iPad 1G in both the thickness and the design of the case, which has no side walls. The speaker has moved to the back wall of the device, where it is located under numerous perforated holes. The two subsequent generations of iPad received a similar design without significant changes, so it is more reliable to distinguish them by the model code printed on small print on the back surface of the gadget:

    • A1395 - for Wi-Fi models
    • A1396 - for GSM model
    • A1397 - for CDMA model

    Second revision of iPad 2 (iPad 2 Rev A), which went on sale in the spring of 2012, is equipped with a different type of Apple A5 processor and is less susceptible to jailbreak. It is impossible to distinguish this model externally; you need to connect to a computer and use utilities like redsn0w. Download redsn0w for OS X or Windows, run the utility. Go to the Extras-Even more-Identify menu, in the window that opens, scroll down the text and look at the value in the ProductType line. If there is "iPad2,1" - this is old variety Wi-Fi models iPad 2, and if "iPad2.4" - new.

    iPad 3, which was originally distributed under the brand "The new iPad", when turned off, can be distinguished from the iPad 2 only by the model code engraved at the bottom of the back of the device:

    • A1416 - for Wi-Fi models
    • A1430 - for GSM model
    • A1403 - for CDMA model

    When turned on, the difference between the iPad 2 and iPad 3 is visible to the naked eye thanks to the Retina display with a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels.

    iPad 4 is a modified version of the iPad 3, which went on sale just 7 months after the release of The new iPad. Main differences iPad with Retina display- in the filling of the gadget, but there is also an essential external difference between iPad 4 and iPad 3 is a port for connecting to a computer. The iPad 4 uses a small Lightning port.

    The iPad 4 is available in 3 varieties, but the principle of their separation differs from the iPad 3. You can also distinguish them by the model code on the back wall:

    • A1458 - for Wi-Fi models
    • A1459 - "American" Cellular model
    • A1460 - "global" Cellular model with CDMA support

    The “American” and “global” iPad 4 models differ in the list of supported LTE (4G) communication bands. Unfortunately, none of them can work in Russian LTE networks.

    The fifth-generation iPad has received a name and a long-awaited design update. This iPad looks most like a larger version of the iPad mini. The size of the frame around the display has decreased, the thickness of the device has decreased, and paired stereo speakers have appeared in the lower part of the case.

    iPad Air is available in 3 varieties, and the principle of their division is again different from previous generations. You can also distinguish them by the model code on the back wall:

    • A1474 - for Wi-Fi models
    • A1475 - for LTE models
    • A1476 - for TD-LTE models aimed at Southeast Asia

    The iPad Air LTE model is universal; it supports all regional 3G and LTE bands.

    Sixth in a row iPad generation got the name. It differs from the previous iPad Air in reduced thickness, changed speaker design, and missing switch. silent mode. But the most noticeable and most useful change is the Touch ID scanner on the Home button.

    iPad Air comes in only 2 varieties:

    • A1566 - for Wi-Fi models
    • A1567 - for LTE models

    The iPad Air 2 LTE model is also universal; it supports almost all LTE bands used in the world.

    You can distinguish iPads from all other iPads very simply by their size. In addition, all the buttons on the iPad mini are made not of plastic, but of metal. The first generation iPad mini does not have a Retina display.

    There are three varieties of the first generation iPad mini, differing in the code on the back wall:

    • A1453 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1454 - "American" Cellular model
    • A1455 - "global" Cellular model with CDMA support

    The “American” and “global” iPad mini models also differ in the list of supported LTE (4G) communication bands.

    When turned off, it looks no different from the iPad mini 1G. Once you turn it on, you can't help but notice the Retina display with a pixel density of 326 ppi. Previously, the gadget was sold under the name iPad mini with Retina display, but after the release of iPad mini 3 it was renamed iPad mini 2.

    There are two types of iPad mini, differing by the code on the back wall:

    • A1489 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1490 - LTE model

    As with the iPad Air, the LTE model of the iPad mini 2G is universal, supporting all regional 3G and LTE bands.

    In fact is a copy of the iPad mini 2, it contains the same equipment, it has absolutely the same characteristics. There are only two differences between the third and second generations of iPad mini: a Touch ID scanner and a new body color – gold.

    Three hardware models of the iPad mini 3 are available:

    • A1599 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1600 - LTE model for sale in most countries around the world
    • A1601 - LTE model for Southeast Asian markets

    LTE models of iPad mini 3 are also universal; they will work in any country with local operators without any restrictions.

    It differs from its predecessor not only in its more powerful filling, but also in its dimensions - it is slightly longer and thinner. The most important visual difference is the absence of a hardware silent switch. At the end of the iPad mini 4 you will only find volume control buttons.

    There are two hardware models of iPad mini 4:

    • A1538 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1550 - LTE model

    The iPad line has replaced the iPad Air. First, a 12.9-inch model was introduced with incredibly powerful hardware, which is difficult not to distinguish from other Apple tablets. The iPad Pro debuted a completely new port - the Smart Connector on the side of the device is designed to connect compatible keyboards.

    Later, a smaller version of the tablet with a diagonal of 9.7 inches was presented. In terms of dimensions and weight, it fully corresponds to the iPad Air 2, but it is easy to distinguish thanks to the protruding camera lens (like on the iPhone 6/6s/Plus) and the presence of a dual flash.

    The 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in two hardware models:

    • A1584 - Wi-Fi model (32, 128 or 256 GB capacity)
    • A1652 - LTE model (available with 128 or 256 GB of memory)

    The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in three hardware models with 32, 128 or 256 GB of internal memory:

    • A1673 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1675 - LTE model (for China)
    • A1674 - LTE model (for the rest of the world)

    iPad 5 (2017 model)

    The iPad 5 has completely confused the situation in the iPad line. This is not the fifth generation of iPad at all, but Apple calls it the fifth because it wants to finally abandon the iPad Air line and return to previous numbering principles (and before the iPad Air there was just the iPad 4). But it cannot be recognized as a new iPad either, because even in comparison with the iPad Air 2 it is a step back. In fact, this is a budget iPad model in a body from first iPad Air, but with updated filling. The easiest way to distinguish iPad 5 from iPad Air is by the presence of Touch ID and the absence of a hardware volume switch; otherwise the devices are identical in appearance.

    iPad 5 comes in just two hardware models:

    • A1822 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1823 - model with LTE module

    iPad Pro (Generation 2)

    The second generation was presented simultaneously in two sizes. The usual 9.7-inch form factor has been replaced by a completely new size display – 10.5 inches. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro model is practically no different in characteristics from the smaller version (unlike the first generation) and has a similar design. These are the first iPads in history to be released with 512 GB of internal memory (in addition to models with 64 and 256 GB).

    The second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in two hardware models:

    • A1670 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1821 - LTE model

    The 10.5-inch iPad Pro also comes in two hardware models:

    • A1701 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1709 - LTE model

    iPad 6 (2018 model)

    The sixth iPad is the successor to the fifth budget generation Apple tablets. The iPad Air form factor is still used, but the sixth model differs from the fifth, firstly, a more powerful A10 Fusion processor (similar to the iPhone 7), and secondly, support for the Apple Pencil stylus.

    iPad 6 comes in two hardware models:

    • A1893 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1954 - model with LTE module

    iPad Pro (3rd generation)

    The third generation is the most radical redesign in the history of all iPads. Firstly, this is an iPad with Face ID, and the scanner works in both portrait and landscape orientation, which even the iPhone cannot do. Secondly, this is the first iOS device to use USB-C connector. Like previous iPad Pros, the tablets came in two variants, this time 11- and 12.9-inch. In addition, the maximum memory capacity has doubled, now reaching 1 terabyte.

    The third generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in 4 hardware models:

    • A1876 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1983 - LTE model for China
    • A2014 - LTE model for America
    • A1895 - LTE model for the rest of the world

    The 11-inch iPad Pro also comes in 4 hardware models:

    • A1980 - Wi-Fi model
    • A1979 - LTE model for China
    • A2013 - LTE model for America
    • A1934 - LTE model for the rest of the world

    Cheaper and better than iPad Air 2.

    Innovation in the tablet market is challenging in at the moment, even for Apple. offered new ways of working, a variety of accessories to complement your 12.9" or 9.7" tablet - but what if you don't need those features?

    • Pros: Cheaper | Beautiful screen | Lightweight design;
    • Cons: Thicker Air | A9 chipset | No 256 GB model;

    If that sounds like you, the new iPad is the tablet that suits your needs. It offers premium features, stylish and attractive design and class-leading features, but at a lower price and without additional performance features.

    This new version of the iPad is priced at R25,000 for the 32GB model (Wi-Fi), while the most expensive version costs around R40,000 for the 128GB model (Wi-Fi + LTE). There is no 256GB model for the latest iPad.

    You can buy the tablet in Apple stores right now, and retailers will be putting iPads on shelves in the coming weeks.

    Design and display

    • The design is similar to the previous onesiPad, but still good;
    • Thicker and heavier thaniPadAir 2;
    • It's easy to hold with one hand, and the 9.7-inch screen is perfect for movies;

    If you've used the iPad Air 2, the new iPad's design will seem familiar to you. The new version is the iPad Air 2, just barely noticeably thicker, but we're talking 7.5mm, so you'll be able to hold it easily in your hand.

    Weighing only 469 grams, if you plan to carry the tablet with you, you will find it light enough to hold without any strain. You'll have to use two hands, however, at 240 x 169.5 x 7.5mm, it's not the easiest device to operate with one hand.

    Many publications have focused on the fact that the iPad has become thicker, but based on the results of the review and practical use of the tablet, we do not believe that this matters. The iPad Air 2 was incredibly thin and light, you wouldn't notice the difference.

    The back of the iPad has a metal body that remains quite smooth on the fingers, but is still quite comfortable in the hands. There's no denying that the iPad is still the best-looking tablet you can buy, with its rounded corners fitting perfectly into the overall design.

    We recommend purchasing a case to ensure you don't scratch your tablet when tossing it into your bag or backpack. The metal back panel can be scratched quite easily, and you'll also find that greasy fingerprints can mar the design if you don't wipe down the tablet regularly.

    The Apple iPad is available in gold, silver and gray - sad that Apple didn't offer a new red one iPad versions to match the vibrant new style of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

    Like recent iPads, there's a home button just below the screen that acts as a scanner Touch fingerprints ID, which allows you to ensure reliable protection of your fingerprint data. The scanner is not easy to reach with your thumb, so we often used a PIN code instead of a scanner.

    When it comes to the screen, new Apple The iPad offers a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The result is a density of 264 pixels per inch, which is the same density as the iPad Pro.

    It's a Retina display, of sorts. Apple way tell you that you won't be able to notice individual pixels, the quality of the panel is so high. We're willing to agree with Apple that during our review of the iPad, every picture and image we saw looked beautiful.

    The screen is very bright – especially compared to, for example, original iPad Air - and this gives it a big advantage over most competing tablets.

    The screen size is especially noticeable on the new iPad. The iPad Pro 12.9 is too big for comfortable everyday use, and Apple suggests best size here - big enough for you to enjoy the content, small enough to use it comfortably.

    Interface and reliability

    • Works withiOS 10.3, the latest OS fromApple;
    • iOS is a great interface for tablets;
    • Access to millions of applications that work with the newiPad;

    iOS maybe better interface for a tablet, among those existing on the market, and last iPad Apple is the first to roll out iOS 10.3 out of the box.

    iOS means you have access to a million apps that will work with your iPad, all optimized for the platform. During our Apple review iPad, we haven't found any apps that don't work with latest version software iOS, everything works great on the platform.

    Some apps may not be perfect, but most developers ensure they are optimized for iPhone and iPad before submitting them to the Apple store. And while the selection of applications may be inferior to Google Play Store, you will find everything required applications accessible.

    If you've used Apple products before, you'll find the interface clear and accessible. If not, it's easy to learn from scratch.

    All apps downloaded from the store appear on the home screen—there's no app tray to hide shortcuts like on Android. You can put your applications into folders.

    Apple did not port Touch Force panels from latest iPhone on, which causes some disappointment. It would be interesting to see how app developers could use the touch screen.

    If you're looking for an easy-to-use interface, the Apple iPad will certainly deliver - we personally find iOS a little easier to use than similar Android products.

    In terms of reliability, we found it to be an excellent tool for running applications throughout our review. No apps crashed from time to time, no errors, and that's exactly what you'd expect from Apple products.

    It's also worth noting that the new iPad launched with iOS 10, so we expect it to be included in Apple's software update program for the next few years. Apple tends to keep its products up to date with the latest software, so the iPad should last longer than, say, the iPad Air 2.

    Movies, music and games

    • Ideal screen size for movies and TV on the go;
    • Well tuned speakers, but not as good as thosePro;
    • 32 GB and 128 GB models, no 256 GB model;

    For movies, Apple offers iTunes Store, so you can always buy any of the latest movies, download them to your tablet and play them using the Video application.

    Brightness and high resolution Retina panels make iPad perfect on the go. And while the large 12.9-inch iPad offers big screen, you lose in convenience and comfort of use, we found the Apple iPad a good compromise between these conditions.

    iPad also great way Access apps like Netflix, Amazon and other streaming services that make it easier to play videos on your tablet.

    When it comes to music, you get access to streaming service Apple Music, you can also buy songs from iTunes. There's also a sync service that lets you download tracks from your computer.

    The new iPad's speakers are similar to those we saw with the iPad Air 2, but they're still fantastic sound and will let you listen to music throughout your home without the need for separate speakers.

    The speakers sound loud enough and do not sound harsh, like the speakers of most smartphones. However, you can easily block the sound when you hold the iPad by the base where the speakers are located.

    The new Apple iPad (2017) doesn't offer four speakers like the Pro series tablets, so it makes sense to consider more expensive tablet models if you need quality sound.

    iPad 9.7 promises to make gamers happy. Best games App Store They cost a little money, but every famous game is available for download on your tablet. We tried Rome: Total War, graphically hard game, and the tablet’s GPU managed to reproduce everything without a hitch.

    As we have already mentioned, the most cheap model The iPad is available in 32GB and should offer you around 20GB of free storage, or a little more, for your apps and media.

    For this review, we used the 128GB version, so we had a generous 102GB of free storage. This space is enough for a lot of movies, music and games, and you won't have to fill it up in no time.

    For some reason, Apple company doesn't offer a 256GB tablet at the moment, although Apple may offer one in the future. If you're looking for an iPad with more storage, you should opt for the iPad Pro or iPad Mini 4.

    Performance and tests

    • Runs on chipsetsAppleA9 presented oniPhone 6S;
    • Not the fastestThe iPad is on the market, but it should suit most of your needs;

    Gaming was the most resource-intensive task we tested on the iPad, and we found it to slouch under load. The iPad did get a little warm when running high-performance apps, but the tablet never got too hot.

    One of the main updates to the new iPad is the A9 processor. This is the chip that debuted on the iPhone 6S in late 2015, and is not the company's flagship chipset like the one found on the iPhone 7 or iPad Pro.

    It's a bit of a disappointment from Apple, but it's still an improved processor over the iPad Air 2. If you're looking for the best powerful tablets, you should look at the iPad Pro, however, the tablets in this series only offer slightly more powerful A9X chipsets.

    The most recent iPad models include 2GB RAM and while we don't know for sure, the new iPad will likely follow suit.

    In our comparative testing The new 2017 Apple iPad returned an average Geekbench 4 multi-core test score of 4351. By comparison, the iPad Pro 9.7 (5227) and iPad Pro 12.9 (5472) scored slightly better, but they are powered by A9X processors.

    In everyday use, however, the new iPad is capable of handling whatever apps you might need. It may lack performance under heavy multitasking or with the most demanding applications, but otherwise you'll be pleased with the loading and performance speeds.

    Time battery life

    • Average battery lifeThe iPad won't be a problem;
    • About 10 hours of battery life, which allows you to watch five movies;

    Apple estimates that your iPad can last about 10 hours on a single charge, and during Apple testing iPad in review, we came to the same time for browsing the web and videos.

    Gaming will likely drain the battery a little faster, but the tablet's endurance is still impressive given the new iPad's thin body, which inevitably limits battery capacity.

    We'd like to see some improvement in the new iPad's battery life relative to the Air 2, but at the moment they seem to be delivering similar battery life.

    In terms of day-to-day use, the new iPad 2017 should be able to offer you several days of battery life with average use. During the review phase, we used the tablet for about three hours a day, and in these conditions it lasted us three days.

    If you buy the cellular version of the tablet, it's worth noting that active cellular service will use up the battery a little faster iPad Wi-Fi Only. You can easily disable cellular communication, when you don't need it, for example, in airplane mode, which is easily accessed in the settings.

    To charge, you'll use the Loghtning cable, which connects to the bottom of the iPad. It has a reversible connector so you can insert it the first time without looking or twisting the wire.

    The new iPad does not offer fast charging However, charging the battery takes very little time. During our review, the Apple iPad charged to 100% in just four hours.

    Camera

    • The 8-megapixel camera is useful but shouldn't act as your primary photography device;
    • The 1.2 megapixel front sensor is bad, but for voice call fits;

    The camera is not the main aspect when you buy a tablet, but it is a useful additional feature that you get on the front and back of the tablet.

    Apple iPad comes with 8 megapixel rear camera, capable of taking detailed pictures, but we do not recommend using it to spot a smartphone. It can be difficult to hold the 9.7-inch iPad and take photos.

    The camera can be useful for taking pictures of things around the house and then uploading them directly to your iPad's app, so we see Apple's decision to equip the new iPad with a capable camera as useful.

    Photos come in a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and are of decent quality, so you can upload them to social networks. Don't expect the tablet's sensor to compete with the camera on the iPhone 7 and other flagship smartphones.

    In our testing of the Apple iPad, we found the front-facing camera much more useful.

    Apart from the occasional mediocre selfie, you'll likely be using the tablet's 1.2MP front-facing camera for video chats with friends or photos on social networks. The camera offers meager resolution, so don't expect stellar quality.

    Examples of photos:

    At home, the iPad's camera takes great pictures, but in public places the situation is more complicated.

    We were amazed by the quality of this photo, very good for an 8-megapixel sensor.

    Taking photos with an iPad is not as easy as taking photos with a smartphone.

    Final Thoughts

    The new iPad looks like the tablet worth buying in 2017, showing that Apple's iPad range is still a major player in the tablet market. It offers everything you need to watch media content, and costs less than the iPad Air 2 at the time of the latter's release.

    This iPad is not in the best possible way Suitable for professional use, this is iPad Pro territory, but the build quality and features offer a well-rounded experience.

    With a beautiful and simple design, an excellent screen and enough powerful characteristics, it's hard to find a tablet that offers as much for the same price as the new Apple iPad.

    New for whomiPad?

    If you've never used a tablet before, the new iPad is the perfect starting point. Simply put, unless you're using it for heavy, high-performance tasks, you'll find everything you need.

    If your tablet is a few years old and needs an upgrade, a new iPad is a great option.

    Don't buy it if you're looking for it (better take a look at the rating in the link). For this purpose, it is better to choose the iPad Pro, which, with a set of accessories, turns into a laptop. Latest iPad doesn't offer enough strong processor For handling resource-intensive tasks, the new iPad's accessories aren't as good as the iPad Pro's.

    Worth buyingAppleiPad?

    The new iPad is much more better than iPad Air 2 – which for a long time remained the best tablet on the market - and will offer you everything you need in a multimedia device you'll use on the sofa.

    If you have an iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, or latest iPad Mini, the new iPad is not worth the switch. It doesn't offer radical differences, so you'll want to wait for a more significant update.

    The new iPad, however, is better than just about anything on the market right now, and with its low price tag, it's a great choice for those looking to buy a new tablet.

    CompetitorsAppleiPad

    Think the Apple iPad 9.7 is not for you? Here are a few other options you might consider.

    Apple iPad Pro 9.7

    It shares the design and size of the iPad, but what if you want something more professional? iPad Pro 9.7 can handle any task you throw at it. It is equipped with Smart Connector, a Pro Series connector that is used to connect a keyboard and stylus.

    If you're going to be taking notes or drawing, the iPad Pro 9.7 is probably a better choice for you than the Apple iPad. The tablet in this series is equipped with 256 GB of memory, but it will cost you more than the new iPad.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

    Do you think an Android tablet would be the best choice? At the moment, the best representative of the Android market is the flagship Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. It offers industry-leading features—you'll be able to watch HDR videos on its screen—and the tablet is also compatible with a collection of accessories that make it a great choice for professionals.

    Again, the Galaxy Tab S3 will be more expensive than the new iPad; you may want to opt for Apple's new iPad as it's significantly cheaper than Samsung's latest tablet.

    Apple iPad Mini 4

    A great option if you like Apple tablets but want something smaller. The iPad Mini 4 is Apple's best small tablet, offering the same features as the new iPad but on a 7.9-inch screen.

    10 Overall Score

    Verdict:

    The new iPad may not be Apple's most innovative product, but it's a welcome update to the iPad Air 2, and the new version is a fantastic option at a fraction of the price of iPads of yesteryear.

    Review of the Apple iPad tablet (2017)

    The new inexpensive iPad for the mass consumer is criticized by many for its simplicity, but all the swearing ends as soon as you tell your interlocutor the price. For 25,000 rubles, this is the best basic tablet on the market...

    Design, construction

    Critics say: this is the old Air, this is old tablet, nothing new! Apple was absolutely stunned to roll out such a balalaika in 2017! You don’t have to answer anything here, but you can talk about the reasons why the iPad was born.

    Firstly, if you look at the tablet market, nothing revolutionary has really happened here in recent years - the tablet has turned into a kind of microwave oven, household appliance for watching TV series in bed, although I manage to work fully using an iPad Pro with a keyboard. If smartphones have curved OLEDs, dual cameras, codecs for lossless sound transmission, then tablets have become thinner, lighter, more productive, support for smart styluses has appeared, but that’s all progress. People don't need more! People aren't willing to replace their tablets every year, and many are still happy with their iPad Air or even the second generation iPad.

    It turns out that a revolution seems to be unnecessary.

    Secondly, the need for tablets still remains. They are bought both for educational purposes and for corporate purposes - you will probably pass by the iPad, but the director of some private school, looking at the price, may think: “Shouldn’t I buy about twenty of these tablets for teachers so that Did anyone get confused about the schedule?” After all, everyone knows that iPads are hard-to-kill things, easy to administer, easy to learn for both the older generation (teachers) and the younger group (students). If iPad Pro was purchased by a number of Russian companies for top management, then simple iPad you can safely buy for mid-level employees - please work on business trips, receive notifications, do everything as expected.

    Thirdly, Apple is squeezing all the juice out of a once-created design - whether this is good or bad is difficult to judge from the outside. From an economic point of view, this is very good for the company; the life cycle of the products is maximum, and there is no need to waste human resources on developing designs for inexpensive devices. You take a good old one, equip it with a “new” processor, and you’re done. Apple understands everything about the microwave, about the fact that modern electronic devices It’s no longer an image, not a status, not an indicator, but just a tool - that’s why we see the iPad 2017 in the form of an old tablet.

    Finally, indirectly, this is also a means to combat the secondary market - on Avito for 25,000 rubles you can buy an excellent pig in a poke, you will never understand whether this is a drowned man in front of you or a normal iPad. And this is where our iPad comes into play - rather than taking something unclear, it’s better to buy a budget, but understandable thing.

    The preamble was necessary, now let's talk about the 2017 iPad. The aluminum body is almost the same as the Air, covers for previous generations fit, the cutouts on the side may slightly mismatch, but it’s not that bad. On the bottom there is a Lightning connector, on the left and right there are holes for loud speakers, it is very convenient to watch movies and TV series without headphones. Listen to music in the hotel too. On the right side there are volume buttons, on the back there is a camera lens, there is no flash. On top there is a power button, a 3.5 mm jack, the Wi-Fi + Cellular version has a plastic insert covering the antenna. Another distinctive feature on the bottom right side is a slot for a nanoSIM memory card. Interestingly, this version supports Apple SIM (“SIM” is built-in), which is great if you travel often. The principle is simple: right at the airport, without going to operators, you can choose the same operator, tariff, pay, and immediately connect to the network. It is curious that in budget tablet They left similar functionality - aimed at older people. For example, my friend’s parents fly to Berlin at least a couple of times a month to visit and constantly experience problems with communication - this is where I can recommend a tablet, where you don’t need special knowledge of the language and you don’t have to look for an operator’s salon.

    The tablet is available in three colors: silver, gold, and space gray.

    There are several modifications, you can choose memory, 32 or 128 GB, color, model with Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular. The price range is from 24,990 to 41,990 rubles, since the iPad is not a device for photo and video shooting, for a number of tasks (or for parents) you can safely choose a model with 32 GB of memory, and then decide whether cellular capabilities are needed or not.

    In terms of design, the iPad doesn't look like a dinosaur next to another Apple technology, a tablet is just a tablet, nothing more. The “gray space” version is good, as always.

    I almost forgot, there is a FaceTime camera lens above the screen, and a Touch ID sensor below the display, with its help you can activate the screen and make purchases on the Internet or in applications.

    Exact dimensions – 240 x 169.5 x 7.5 mm, weight – 469 grams. The Lightning connector is used for charging and data transfer.

    Display

    Retina display, resolution 2048 x 1536 pixels, 9.7-inch diagonal, IPS, LED-backlit, with oleophobic coating, quite a normal screen for most tasks. If you connect a case with a Bluetooth keyboard, you can easily work with documents or mail, if you take a case with a stand, you can watch Twin Peaks while lying in bed and connecting AirPods. By the way, I highly recommend using the device with AirPods; the tablet is in your bag, the headphones are in your ears, you can stop the track by touching it, and rewind it using Siri.

    There is no point in comparing the screen of a budget iPad with the iPad Pro display of the same diagonal - yes, in iPad display simpler, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

    Performance

    The Apple A9 processor with an M9 coprocessor is used. Let me remind you that this processor is almost two years old, it is used in the iPhone 6S/6S Plus, iPhone SE. All programs from the iPad Pro were transferred and started working, the tablet copes quite quickly with searching in mail, where there are a LOT of letters, modern games They work, I have nothing to complain about. I advise owners of an iPad with 32 GB to use more actively iCloud features. The tablet has iOS 10 with all updates installed.

    A little more about wireless interfaces:

    Wi-Fi model:

    Wi-Fi + Cellular model:

    • Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac); two bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz); HT80 with MIMO technology
    • Bluetooth 4.2 technology
    • UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    • CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900 MHz)
    • LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 38, 39, 40, 41)
    • Supports Apple SIM

    In addition, the following are supported:

    • Digital compass
    • Assisted GPS and GLONASS for Wi-Fi + Cellular version
    • iBeacon precise location function (works in several stores in Moscow)

    The tablet can be used to make audio-video calls via FaceTime, I checked that the call quality is excellent even in the city, although it would be better to have LTE. As I already said, Apple Pay is supported, you can pay in various services using your fingerprint.

    Opening hours

    The stated operating time is about 10 hours; the included power supply and cable allow you to charge the tablet in about three and a half to four hours. To speed up the process, you can take the power supply from a large iPad Pro. The operating time corresponds to the stated one; if you watch the video all the time on a flight to Beijing, the tablet will not sit down.

    Camera

    An 8 MP camera is installed with autofocus, support for Live Photos, HDR, touch focusing, and records video in HD. Front camera 1.2 MP. Naturally, there is no particular point in using the main camera for artistic photographs, but as a notebook it works great, the quality is not bad. It’s interesting that the budget device also has well-implemented panoramic photography; they also retained the five-element lens; I was pleased with the speed of operation. Let me remind you that in any iOS device you can use the volume buttons to take a photo, the iPad is no exception - so, immediately after pressing it, a frame is created. Fast!

    Conclusions

    There is such a concept of “basic” clothing, these are T-shirts and other things necessary for any person. All the time I was using the iPad, this word never left me - this is exactly the basic tablet for anyone who just needs an inexpensive and understandable tablet, without any bells and whistles (see iPad Pro), well made in terms of hardware and software. Yes, for 25,000 rubles you can buy a dozen Chinese tablets, glue them together with glue and get, for example, a meter tablet for the home, for the family, but here the well-known saying comes out about “we are not rich enough to buy cheap things.”

    If you buy, I would recommend either the simplest version, 32 GB, without a SIM card, or 32 GB with a SIM card. If you travel often, an Apple SIM will come in handy. The 128 GB version is more expensive and less interesting (subjective opinion). Don’t forget that there are now a bunch of different Apple-certified Lightning flash drives on sale, so you can buy an accessory to watch TV series - take it off your computer, insert it into your tablet during the flight, watch it, then put the flash drive in your pocket. That's why I recommend the 32 GB version.

    It remains only to add that the iPad is good buy in the most different cases. Are you looking for a convenient remote control for smart home, you want to buy your dad or mom a “reader” with many functions, you want to equip your cafe with a convenient screen for the person at the cash register - in all these cases, the iPad is indispensable.

    The very first tablet produced by Apple appeared in April 2010. Then they released 10 more new models, which differ in appearance and functions. Several methods described in this article will help you identify your iPad.

    The first method for determining the iPad model

    There are several methods to determine the iPad model. One way is to get inside the tablet, namely:

    1. You need to go to home screen iPad.

    2. Then click “Settings”.

    4. The next step is to click “About the device”. And in the “Model” line the device model number will be displayed.

    5. And you can determine the iPad model by comparing the numbers in this line with the list given above.

    The second method for determining the tablet model

    The second method is the simplest. There is no need to go into the settings and do everything that was written in the previous method.

    You just need to turn the back of your iPad and look at the Model line in the lower left corner, and then compare it with the list we talked about above.

    Method for determining iPad OS version

    5. The version of the iPad software will be written in the “Version” line.

    How is the iPad different from the iPod?

    Since Apple is lately began to produce a large number of its products, for example, iPad, iPod and iPhone, then many people have confusion in their heads. If an iPhone is obviously a telephone, then an iPod and an iPad, which differ in just one letter, can be confused.

    Let's figure out what is the difference between the iPod and iPad, which models of both devices are more similar to each other.

    The world-famous company Apple, in addition to gadgets, produces computers and laptops, but, unfortunately, you cannot take them with you or put them in your pocket due to their bulky size. Therefore, we combined a computer and a phone in one small device and created an iPad, with which you can work, read books, communicate, take photographs, listen to music, watch videos and much more.

    Using an iPod, you can only listen to and store music, view videos and pictures. There is no camera on it. It is also popularly called a media player.

    Also, both devices differ in their dimensions: the iPad is much larger and thinner than the iPod. Although now the player is being made thin. The memory capacity also has a big difference: the tablet has memory from 16 to 256 GB, and the player is only 2-4 GB and you can also insert a memory card.

    iPod can be without a screen (only one buttons), with a screen and buttons, or with touch screen. The price, of course, also varies. The iPad consists entirely of a screen and one Home button, and its price also varies. The newer and more powerful, the higher the cost.

    Today, the Apple company produces a fairly large number of its products with different price category that every second person has one or another product of a famous brand.

    Apple has released so many devices that many are starting to get confused. Most often, people do not know the difference between an iPad and an iPod.

    In principle, it is not surprising, because only one letter changes, but in essence, the devices are completely different and we will talk about them in detail today.

    What are iPads and iPods?

    iPad is a tablet that was developed by Apple and it is produced and updated to this day. At the moment, the best on the tablet market.

    The first device was released in 2010 and the company managed to quickly win the hearts of customers. Build quality and speed of operation were the main advantages.

    iPod is a series of multimedia devices whose main task is simply to reproduce high-quality music. Although some have the opportunity to play games, watch movies, etc.

    The very first iPod appeared in 2001 and its main purpose was to play music. The sound quality was very high, so the market was conquered very quickly.

    This is, if we talk about these two gadgets very, very briefly. But let's compare them a little and find out the main differences to make big picture more clear.

    Difference between iPod and iPad

    The fact that the iPad and iPod are absolutely different devices, I think you already understand. But for the sake of interest, you can compare the general facts about them a little. It will be very interesting.

    Appearance. All the devices are very beautiful and usually the colors changed with the advent of new colors in the series of gadgets.

    The sizes differ very radically, because the smallest iPod shuffle can fit in your hand and you can even close it, which cannot be said about huge tablets.

    By purchasing any of the devices, you can get maximum pleasure from use. After all, Apple always does everything gracefully and to a minimum.

    Screens. This is quite interesting, because there are iPods that don’t even have a screen, but the most maximum size is 4 inches and has his latest generation iPod touch.

    All iPad models simply must have screens, because this is a completely different type of device. The minimum size is 7.9 and the maximum is 12.9 inches.

    All displays have evolved with technology and are usually some of the coolest screens on the market. So to speak, at the top of the list.

    Updateability and relevance. With the advent of such a device as the iPhone, everything began to change dramatically on the gadget market.

    Everyone realized that it is much easier to buy one device and perform absolutely all tasks on it. Thanks to large sizes screen you can watch movies and read books, and the music is played simply at its best.

    The iPod has already begun to sag a long time ago and is bought only when necessary: for training or for those who like to have a player and a phone separately. Updated very rarely.

    With the iPad the situation is a little better and it is updated quite often, probably every model about a year. But nevertheless, the popularity is also not very top-notch.

    People most often buy a tablet for home use. And then, in fact, you can do without it when you have an iPhone 6S PLUS or iPhone 7 PLUS.

    Conclusions

    Now you know the main differences between iPad and iPod in general. I did not compare their characteristics, because the categories of devices differ very much.

    All gadgets are very cool, but before you buy, you should decide on the most important question: “Do you need it?” So that it doesn’t turn out that you just threw money away.
