• First look at Motorola Z2 Play – the company's flagship. Motorola Moto Z2 Play display with touchscreen, white

    Not long ago, Lenovo bought the rights to use the Motorola brand. At one time, these phones were very popular, surprising users with excellent innovative design and capabilities. Was no exception new smartphone, released under this brand, which was called Moto Z2 Play. The device is equipped powerful processor, a large amount of memory and the ability to use special modules that will expand the functionality of the smartphone. This combination of characteristics undoubtedly arouses the interest of many users, so today we will devote our review to a modular smartphone from Motorola.

    Appearance and packaging of Moto Z2 Play

    Like most modern smartphones, Moto Z2 Play comes in a cardboard box and has the following standard package:

    • the phone itself;
    • charger, with function fast charging;
    • wired stereo headset;
    • clip;
    • additional panel;
    • technical documentation.
    Among the unusual features, it is worth noting the presence of an additional back cover and a stereo headset. IN lately Many manufacturers do not include headphones in the package. The additional back cover will be useful for those who do not like too thin smartphones, since the Z2 Play is only 6 millimeters thick, and some owners may experience some inconvenience when using it. All additional modules, which will be used to expand the functionality of the smartphone, are not included in the package and are sold separately.

    Most manufacturers of modern smartphones do not deviate from standard manufacturing templates, and each subsequent model is manufactured according to general scheme. Using an unusual case carries certain risks, so manufacturers strive to standardize the design of their devices. This model was no exception, although it received a number of certain features.

    The front panel is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, which is designed to preserve the screen and protect it from numerous mechanical damages. At the bottom there is a mechanical control button similar to those used by Samsung. One of the features of this button is that it combines the function of a fingerprint scanner. The sensor works quite quickly, but if your fingers are dirty or wet, problems may arise with their recognition. In addition, long pressing the button locks the phone screen, which also makes working with the smartphone easier. The lens is located on top front camera 5 megapixels, speaker, flash and sensor, thanks to which the screen backlight turns on automatically when a hand approaches.

    The rear panel houses the main camera lens. Unlike most modern devices, the Motorola Moto Z2 Play smartphone has a huge round module that protrudes from the body for a considerable distance. The solution is quite non-standard, considering the fact that it creates certain inconveniences during use, clinging to pockets or clothes. This problem can be corrected using additional panel. Also located at the bottom is a contact panel, which is used to connect additional modules. We will dwell on this point in our review later.

    At the top end the manufacturer placed a compartment for 2 SIM cards and a memory card. Located at the bottom USB-C connector 3.1 for connecting the power cable and a standard headphone input.

    The main feature of the Moto Z2 Play smartphone is its thickness. It is, as we have already said, only 5.99 millimeters. The previous model was also quite thin, but this time the smartphone exceeded all expectations. As for other parameters: length - 156.2, width - 76.2. The weight of the smartphone is only 145 grams, which is achieved through the combined use of metal and plastic. The smartphone comes in two colors: lunar gray and gold. The colors are quite restrained.

    Moto Z2 Play display

    Lenovo has equipped its Moto Z2 Play smartphone with a modern Super AMOLED screen with the most popular diagonal today - 5.5 inches. The display has FullHD resolution (1920x1080). Usage Super technology AMOLED gives the screen the following advantages:
    • excellent color rendition and support for up to 16 million colors;
    • good pixel density (401 ppi), which ensures excellent picture quality;
    • decent viewing angles;
    • high energy efficiency.
    Responsible for screen protection modern glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3rd generation. Oleophobic coating ensures smooth gliding of fingers. There is also a water-repellent coating that protects against splashes.

    Among interesting features screen, you can note the presence of the “Moto display” function. It allows the user to view notifications and time without activating the screen backlight. The use of this technology increases the duration battery life apparatus.

    Moto Z2 Play Specifications

    Despite the fact that this device is available with several hardware options, only the version with 4 gigabytes will be presented to the Russian market RAM and 64 gigabytes of built-in. Memory expansion is possible through the use of a flash card, the volume of which can be up to 2 terabytes.

    The Motorola Mobile Computing system is responsible for the data processing speed of the device. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor has 8 active cores with a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz. This chipset can hardly be called powerful and fast, since it is only a slightly overclocked version of the 625. However, in combination with a large amount of RAM, the Moto Z2 Play smartphone shows good performance and multitasking. Graphic information is processed by the Adreno 506 accelerator. In general, it is a weak representative of its class. You shouldn't expect outstanding performance from him.

    The device was tested on the following games:

    • Doodle Jump;
    • Lara Croft
    • Godfire: Rise of Prometheus;
    • World of Tanks Blitz.
    In general, the device coped well with all games, showed good results in the number of frames per second, and there were no lags or slowdowns. However, it should be noted that this processor is far from the most TOP, so when used for a long time as a gaming platform, the Moto Z2 Play smartphone became significantly hot. Although which flagship is not guilty of this?

    The operating system is Android version 7.1.1 without any third-party shell. The system is completely cleared of any third-party interference, thereby giving the user the opportunity to either enjoy a clean version or independently change it at will. The menu allows you to configure voice commands to control a smartphone, but traditionally there is no support for the Russian language.

    In general, the operating system works very quickly, without brakes or lags, there are flexible options for customization and adjustment to your own needs. To summarize, we can say that in terms of performance, the Moto Z2 Play has good characteristics.

    Multimedia capabilities of Moto Z2 Play

    The phone is equipped with one speaker. The sound is not particularly loud, but quite clear. At high volume the speaker does not wheeze, extraneous noise not noticed. Listen to music via quality headphones a pleasure. The sound will pleasantly surprise even the most arrogant music lovers.

    The manufacturer did not focus on the camera. There are two of them:

    • 12 megapixel main;
    • 5 megapixel front.
    The main camera is equipped with a very good module with a photosensitivity of 1.7, as well as laser autofocus up to 5 meters. Thanks to it, aiming at the desired object occurs almost instantly. Unfortunately, the model does not have a dual camera. During the daytime good lighting The pictures come out bright and clear. In night shooting mode, the smartphone catches a lot of glare, which is why the final photo turns out to be very mediocre. There is no optical stabilization either. Even unpopular Chinese smartphones that have a lower price have received much better cameras at their disposal. The only good thing is that this drawback can be corrected using a special additional module, which we will talk about later. Well, the presence of a dual LED flash is a big plus. As for the maximum photo resolution, it is 4032x3024 pixels. By the way, the Moto Z2 Play smartphone supports the ability to shoot video with a resolution of 4K at 30 fps.

    The front camera is also simple. If the main camera uses a Sony IMX362 Exmor RS sensor, then the front camera uses an OmniVision OV5693. One of the advantages is the presence of a flash. For lovers of selfies at night, this will be a nice addition. Pictures are taken with a maximum resolution of 2592x1944, and video - 1920x1080.

    Moto Z2 Play: review of wireless interfaces

    This model includes the following wireless modules:
    • Wi-Fi 802.11 (2.4/5 GHz);
    • Bluetooth 4.2LE;
    • A-GPS;
    • GLONASS.
    Communication with satellites is instantaneous, the signal is stable and uninterrupted. The automatic payment system using a smartphone also works thanks to availability of NFC module. As for networks, the smartphone works confidently with both GSM and LTE.

    Moto Z2 Play smartphone in offline mode

    Let's finish our review of the Motorola Moto Z2 Play with its battery life characteristics. Compared to the previous version, the new device has lost battery capacity. It now has a rather modest 3000 mAh. Capacity had to be sacrificed for the sake of even an overly thin body.

    However, it should be noted that the small battery shows excellent battery life:

    • 6 hours of screen operation;
    • 14 hours of video at full brightness with maximum resolution;
    • 12 hours of work with games.
    Such indicators are possible due to the fact that Super screen AMOLED is highly energy efficient. Also in defense of the Moto Z2 Play, we note that the fast charging function is supported. That is, in 15 minutes you can charge the battery for eight hours of use. And in half an hour the charge is restored by half. The battery is not removable.

    Moto Z2 Play Modules

    The most important feature of the device is the presence of plug-ins. The company plans to support the model by releasing new, more interesting additions. They are not included in the package and will have to be purchased separately. Now we will look at 4 main modules, but others are also available for sale:
    1. Hasselblad True Zoom. This module is simply indispensable for those who like to use a smartphone as a camera. This photo module allows you to turn your phone into a real camera with 10x zoom. A company that specializes in the production of photographic equipment is responsible for the development. Hasselblad True Zoom is additionally equipped xenon flash, as well as optical zoom. Its dimensions are 152.3x72.9x9–15.1 mm and its weight is 145 grams. When using it, the device becomes almost 3 times thicker. Activation occurs in a few seconds. The module has a traditional camera button arrangement. Shooting takes place through a standard application. The main advantage of the add-on is the presence of zoom and optical stabilization. Thanks to its use, the final photos are a solid 5-star. Of course, it cannot be compared with SLR cameras, but the functionality of the base camera increases significantly. One of the disadvantages is the lack of its own battery. It is worth noting that 100 shots consume approximately 30 percent of the total battery charge Moto smartphone Z2 Play. Not such a bad indicator.
    2. Insta-Share Projector. This module turns your smartphone into a full-fledged projector that can project images on a screen up to 70 inches. Its dimensions are 153x74x11 mm, and its weight is 125 grams. There are enough opportunities for home use. In a dark room, the screen brightness (nominal 50 lumens) is sufficient and you can comfortably watch movies and videos. Contrast - 400 to 1. The lamp is designed for 10 thousand hours. The module has its own 1100 mAh battery, which is enough to continuously project video for 1 hour. Installation additional applications not required. Install Insta-Share Projector, place it in front of the screen, focus and enjoy the picture that appears. The add-on will automatically adjust the image.
    3. JBL Soundboost 2. It is a portable speaker for the Moto Z2 Play smartphone. The volume reserve of standard speakers is clearly not enough, so for those who like to listen to music on the street, in nature, or in an apartment with friends, this module is a must-have. Its volume can be up to 80 dB. Frequency range from 200 Hz to 20 kHz. There is a built-in battery with a capacity of 1000 mAh, which lasts for 10 hours continuous operation. The quality of the music is sufficient, however, at maximum volume there is still some wheezing. The total power of the speakers is 6 W. Dimensions of JBL Soundboost 2 are 152x73x14.5 mm, and weight is 135 grams. There is splash protection.
    4. Moto Turbo Power Pack. External battery 3000 mAh. The module itself has acceptable dimensions and, unlike a portable speaker, does not make the smartphone bulky. But it will double the battery life. The only downside is the need to disconnect the module for charging. It is not possible to charge the main and additional batteries at the same time. There is support for fast charging function.
    Among the additional modules you can also find a gamepad, which will turn the Moto Z2 Play smartphone into a full-fledged game console. The company plans to release a camera with the ability to shoot panoramic video with high resolution. In addition, fans of replacement panels can choose suitable option from a wide variety of not only colors, but also materials.

    Moto Z2 Play: price, pros and cons

    To summarize the review, I would like to note that in standard The obvious advantages of the smartphone can be considered only its unusual design, high quality screen and 4 gigabytes of RAM.

    Among the striking disadvantages are:

    • average productivity by modern standards;
    • fairly weak standard cameras;
    • battery with a small capacity.
    However, the listed advantages and disadvantages apply only to the basic version. The presence of additional modules makes the device universal, able to please all users. Therefore, insufficient battery life or mediocre photo quality can be corrected with additional modules, for which, however, you will also have to pay a lot.

    The recommended price of Moto Z2 Play in Russia is 35,000 rubles. It’s far from the most budget option, since among Chinese analogues you can find devices with higher quality hardware. Whether the modular functionality of a smartphone is worth that kind of money is up to you to decide. Although the Moto Z2 Play had a release date in Russia back in June. Most of the modules are still not on sale, which is also not very encouraging. If necessary, they can be ordered from foreign online stores. More information about the device in the video below:

    The package includes a smartphone, fast charging hub, USB cable Type-C, decorative socket, set of instructions and a clip for removing the SIM card cradle.

    On the Internet we found photos of different packaging of the Moto Z2 Play, as well as sets with headphones. Apparently, the manufacturer has provided for variability in configuration.

    Design and ergonomics

    On the front of the Moto Z2 Play, everything is pretty standard. The manufacturer's name is displayed under the speaker; all other elements have a functional purpose.

    The smartphone is catastrophically thin: its thickness is only 6 mm. If we consider the Moto Z2 Play as a standalone device, this solution does not benefit it: the sharp edges of the device feel unpleasant in the palm, and the camera cheekily protrudes an additional 2-3 mm.

    This nuance is forgivable, because we have a construction set in our hands, and the smartphone body is just the basic filling. We try to try on the decorative socket that comes with the kit - and here we are faced with a mistake from the developers. She wobbles and fidgets.

    Above the screen there is a flashlight, speaker, camera and motion sensor. According to the creators, the sensor should identify the user’s approach to the gadget and turn on the backlight on the locked screen. In fact, it works haphazardly and without obvious patterns. On the top edge there is a cradle for two SIM cards and microSD. You don’t have to choose between a memory card and a SIM card; you can connect everything at once.

    Let's go lower: on the right side there are three mechanical keys. The power button is ribbed and easy to touch.

    Below the screen there is a black dot microphone and a One Button Nav touch key - a multifunctional and customizable analogue of Home.

    On the back of the smartphone there is a contact pad for modules, the Motorola logo and a seemingly gigantic camera eyepiece. But the solution with the antenna looks quite stylish: it beautifully and unobtrusively frames the body. On the bottom edge there is a Type-C socket and a mini-jack.

    The Moto Z2 Play is available in two colors: Lunar Gray and Fine Gold. Both options look decent and are suitable for both men and women.

    Display

    The smartphone has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels. There were no complaints about the display: it does not give off much green tints (which is a problem with many AMOLED screens) and is bright enough for use in the sun.

    The smartphone is protected from scratches and grease stains by third-generation Gorilla Glass with an oleophobic coating.

    Camera

    The main camera with a 12 MP matrix resolution is equipped with a dual CCT flash that adapts to color temperature environment. In the previous version of the designer from Motorola, the rear camera had a resolution of 16 megapixels, but had worse aperture performance. The aperture value of the Moto Z2 Play lens is f/1.7 versus f/2.0 for the predecessor camera.

    Operating the camera is quite simple even in manual mode. Sometimes it comes in handy: automatic white balance periodically misses the mark. There were no other complaints about the operation of the automation. Sometimes there is a software glitch found in Android devices.

    The front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture allows you to take good pictures, and in low light a powerful flashlight will help. Nice bonus: The selfie camera can take slo-mo videos and photos in manual mode.

    The video capabilities of the Moto Z2 Play are not far behind the flagship ones: the smartphone can shoot FullHD video at 60 FPS and 4K at 30 FPS. There is a stabilization function.

    Performance and memory

    The Moto Z2 Play has an eight-core Snapdragon processor 626 clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 506 graphics module clocked at 650 MHz. The Geekbench 4 performance test showed a weak score of 914 points in single-core mode and an average score of 4,628 points in multi-core mode, beating similar indicators Meizu Pro 6 Plus and Google Pixel XL.

    We tried playing heavy games on the Moto Z2 Play: several versions of Asphalt and Modern Combat. No lags or FPS drops were noticed.

    Moto Z2 Play smartphones are available with two storage and RAM options: 32/64 GB and 3/4 GB, respectively. The microSD slot supports connecting cards up to 2 TB, so the capacity internal memory not so important here.

    Battery

    Battery capacity compared to previous version The battery capacity of the device has decreased and is now 3,000 mAh, which is equivalent to two days of operation with moderate use of the smartphone.

    The Moto Z2 Play includes a TurboPower high-power charger that charges the gadget from zero to 50% in half an hour. In addition, among the “mods” there are several options for portable batteries that can be easily attached to the body of a smartphone. All this makes the Moto Z2 Play an ideal phone in terms of battery life.

    Moto and One Button Nav

    The smartphone runs on bare Android 7.1.1. Nougat. Pleased with the absence of unnecessary add-ons and minimum set applications, most of which are really needed. All the individual features of the gadget lie in one of them - the Moto application.

    Moto features are divided into three segments: Actions, Display and Voice. “Display” lets you customize lock screen notifications and evening screen colors, while “Voice” is an advanced version of OK Google.

    The most interesting thing lies in the “Actions” tab: gesture commands are included here, some of which are really convenient. For example, you can program the camera to turn on when you swipe your smartphone twice, or set the flashlight to turn on when you swipe twice.

    The One Button Nav button deserves special attention. Firstly, it has a correctly working fingerprint sensor built into it. It works instantly and always - there is no need to resort to a classic password code. Secondly, the button can be programmed to command Back, Home and Multitasking, which means that the classic navigation bar at the bottom of the screen can be abandoned.

    Modules

    The smartphone itself may seem inconvenient, ugly and unreasonably expensive. But if you know about the full potential of the Moto Z2 Play, it becomes clear why it is too thin, why the developers allowed themselves to make such a protruding camera and, in the end, why it costs $500.

    Verdict

    It’s difficult to formulate a clear opinion about the Moto Z2 Play. It is quite expensive, not the most convenient and in terms of characteristics it is clearly not flagship. But there is a reason why the Moto Z family of smartphones find their users. This is the fascination of operation.

    Gadgets are purely utilitarian products that help us solve problems. We do not seek to explore them, reducing the process of use to a set of simple learned actions. The modular system of Moto Z offers an alternative and many scenarios: today you are a semi-professional photographer, tomorrow you are the center of a music party, and the day after tomorrow you are the owner of your own cinema.

    Smartphones from Moto series Z are able to awaken the passion of a collector in the user and make him feel the joy of buying a device not at once, but over and over again with the acquisition of each new module.

    And finally, Moto Z2 Play is quite decent smartphone, offering all the key functions of modern devices. If you don't like phones with the letter i and their countless clones, take a closer look at the Moto Z2 Play - a smartphone from people who know how to take risks, for people who know how to have fun.

    Last year, Lenovo and Motorola introduced the concept of modular functionality in the mid-range with the Moto Z Play. Its successor, Moto Z2 Play has some key improvements and even more Moto Mods accessories.

    The “trick” of the Moto Z2 Play is its support for removable modules-overlays (not included in the kit, purchased separately), thanks to which the device turns into a projector, a digital camera with tenfold optical zoom, a music speaker and even a gamepad. There is also an additional battery module and a wireless charging attachment.

    Several Moto Mods have been released with the Moto Z2 Play and they all fit and work great with both this new device and the Moto Z Play, Moto Z and Moto Z Force. In fact, Motorola guarantees Moto Mods to be compatible with all devices in the lineup, so you don't have to worry about old overlays becoming unusable with each new iteration of the smartphone.

    However, the company had to make a number of compromises. The Z2 Play has a much smaller battery capacity, while the price of the device has increased.

    Moto Z2 Play Specifications

    Design

    There are no big changes in the design, however, they could not be expected. After all, the Moto Z line is designed to make all its smartphones compatible with replaceable Moto Mods. We probably won't see a radical redesign of the Moto Z line for several years.

    The Moto Z2 Play is 1mm thinner than its predecessor, making it more comfortable to hold. Additionally, the glass back panel has been replaced with a metal one, which gives the device a more premium look and does not attract fingerprints. The antenna strips were not placed in the form of plastic inserts at the bottom and top, as is usually done, but along the entire perimeter of the rear panel, which, by the way, also gives the device a stylish look.

    Home button with fingerprint sensor the bottom of the front panel acquired a standard elongated shape, instead of the square one in the Z Play, and began to work faster and more reliably.

    The smartphone can be used without additional modules-overlays, if you are not bothered by the strongly protruding camera lens and the connector for attaching modules. By the way, without additional connections the Z2 Play is very thin and you don’t want to make it thicker at all.

    On the right side there is a power key and two separate volume buttons. Despite the fact that they are quite small and thin, they are quite comfortable to use thanks to their elastic and precise movement.

    The front side is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass. On top are the usual selfie camera sensor and LED flash.

    No under the screen touch buttons, the navigation bar is located on the display itself. Physical key under the display can duplicate the functions of the on-screen buttons when “drawing” on it with gestures of standard navigation actions. Due to its small size, this is not entirely convenient to do, but it is possible.

    The only speaker is located on the top of the front panel.

    The bottom end has a port for USB charging Type-C and standard audio output. It’s nice that they weren’t sacrificed for the sake of the “subtlety” of the device.

    On the top edge there is a slot for 2 nano-SIMs and a microSD memory card. It is worth giving credit to the manufacturer again - the ultra-thin case also did not cause the combined slots. The solution is simple and elegant: two SIM cards are inserted on one side of the slot, and a memory card on the other.

    Since the model is not a flagship, you will not find any frills here, such as high water resistance certification. But the Z2 Play has a water-repellent nano-coating that provides splash protection.

    The smartphone comes in two color options: gray (has a black front panel) and gold (has a white front panel).

    Display and sound

    Moto Z2 Play comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, 401 ppi pixel density). As expected from an AMOLED, the screen produces vibrant colors and deep blacks, as well as great viewing angles.

    However, maximum brightness is not enough for comfortable viewing of information on the display in bright sunlight. Among the disadvantages: at low brightness the screen begins to flicker, so your eyes may get tired. In general, the quality of the display is quite good.

    Unfortunately, the sound quality is not very good, since the smartphone only has one speaker. It is not very loud, and its frontal location results in somewhat “one-sided” sound reproduction. Of course great way to improve sound quality is to use one of the offered JBL SoundBoost Moto Mod modules (we'll talk more about this below).

    Thanks to the manufacturer, even reducing the case by 1 mm did not prevent Motorola from retaining the much-loved 3.5 mm headphone jack.

    Camera

    The main camera sensor has a resolution of 12 MP and a maximum lens aperture of f/1.7. The camera is equipped with laser and phase detection autofocus, as well as dual LED flash.

    In low light conditions, the images are quite bright, but there is still a noticeable amount of noise in the images. The camera is slower when shooting in low light, especially when using HDR and without optical image stabilization, so don't expect photos to be sharp or detailed.

    The camera is slower when shooting in low light conditions, especially when using HDR

    Photos taken in good lighting certainly look better and have more accurate colors and details. However, the images still lack sharpness. Overall, the camera's performance is good, but unfortunately it is far from competing with expensive flagships. An additional module can radically change the situation (see information in the next section “Moto Mods”).

    The selfie camera was inherited from the smartphone's predecessor. It has a 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash.

    Moto Mods

    Actually, we have reached the point for which this whole device was started - removable modules-attachments, with the help of which you can significantly expand the functionality of your device.

    Moto Gamepad

    This module will turn your smartphone into a pocket game console - like a PlayStation, but in miniature. This module has all the necessary controls: sticks, cross, “bumpers” on the top end, buttons for actions. The manufacturer prudently equipped the module with an additional 1,035 mAh battery, so you don’t have to worry that the module will “eat up” the smartphone’s own charge. By the way, such a battery will be enough for games for approximately 7-8 hours.

    JBL Soundboost 2

    This replaceable module will turn your smartphone into a real portable speaker with excellent quality sound. The sound power is enough for both a large room and a picnic (by the way, the module is not afraid of rain and splashes from the pool). There is also a built-in battery that lasts for about 10 hours.

    Hasselblad True Zoom

    If you're into photography, you'll love this module, which turns your smartphone into a real digital camera with 10x optical zoom and xenon flash. Ideal for holidays or for those who just love photography.

    Moto insta-share projector

    Yes, yes, this is a real projector in your smartphone! The image is transmitted at an angle of 70 degrees to any surface. The built-in battery will last for an hour of viewing. The possibilities of use are quite wide: you can show a presentation or watch a movie on the wall of your own tent while camping.

    This is a power bank that is attached directly to your device, and it does not greatly affect the thickness and weight of the smartphone itself. A module Moto Style performs wireless charging function.

    Performance

    Under the hood you will find mobile platform Snapdragon 626 supported GPU Adreno 506 and 3 or 4 GB of RAM. There are also two options internal storage 32 GB/64 GB.

    As we already mentioned, the memory can be expanded via a dedicated microSD slot. You can also connect external storage at USB help OTG.

    The processor used in the device is a strong mid-range one, it provides good performance with low power consumption. The smartphone performs well during normal everyday tasks such as web browsing, reading emails and checking social media. The smartphone also performed well in games; even quite “heavy” versions run without lags.

    Software

    The device operates under Android control 7.1.1 Nougat with proprietary firmware Moto Experiences. This is practically “pure” Android with only a small number of improvements, such as support for gestures, reducing the display area for convenient work or multi-window mode.

    Did you know you can open the Moto Z2 Play's camera with just a couple of swipes?

    And here we couldn’t do without some “tricks” that don’t carry much meaning, but make using the smartphone pleasant and special, or something. If you bring your hand to a locked smartphone, it will display basic information about the date, time, and battery charge. If you take your smartphone in your hand incoming call, then the melody will begin to fade away - after all, it is already clear that you saw the call and there is no point in ringing any further. To turn on the flashlight, you just need to shake your smartphone - quickly and conveniently. And to activate the camera, you need to turn the brush in which the Z2 Play is located twice.

    Otherwise, the interface is simple and clear, easy and fast to use. It's not overloaded third party programs which are sometimes so annoying.

    Battery

    The design features, however, forced the manufacturer to make a compromise, resulting in the battery capacity being reduced to 3,000 mAh from the 3,510 mAh that was available in the Z Play.

    As a result, the Z2 Play doesn't offer the two full days of battery life that was possible with the Z Play. However, it can last for at least a day and a half, which is certainly much longer than 90% of Android smartphones today can offer. Even with heavy use, you have between 25 and 40% battery remaining at the end of the workday. Very good, in my opinion.

    In addition, fast charging is available. Motorola's Turbo Power allows you to charge your phone up to 50% in just 30 minutes.

    Conclusions

    Pros:

    • design and build quality;
    • Moto Mods;
    • separate slots for a memory card and two nano-SIMs;
    • “pure” Android;
    • smooth performance;
    • autonomy.

    Cons:

    • price;
    • Moto Mods will have to be purchased separately;
    • insufficient screen brightness.

    Moto Z2 Play evokes sincere sympathy, both in design and in its unusual use possibilities.

    Someone will argue that $500 for an “average” car is a lot. But if you consider that in real use the smartphone shows very decent performance and add to this excellent autonomy, sufficient RAM, separate slots for micro-SIM and memory cards and “pure” Android, it turns out that it is worth every ruble spent on it.

    And this is without even mentioning the Moto Mod modules, without which the Z2 Play, by the way, is a full-fledged device.

    Getting to know a device, as you know, begins with its packaging, which in our case immediately evokes a pleasant impression thanks to the thick cardboard and bright design. On the front of the box there is a company designation and an indication of the model, supplemented by an image of certain crystals inscribed in a contour circle with the Moto logo. The interior of the box, which protrudes outward a couple of centimeters, is also made in the style of the latter. On the removable part there is a Lenovo logo, which reminds of the owner of the brand.

    All information related to specific device, that is, serial numbers, is located in the form of a sticker on the bottom edge. On the opposite side is the company logo. On the back of the packaging there is again the "M" logo.

    After the moving part is removed, the gaze involuntarily concentrates on the device in a special cardboard niche.

    Underneath is a cardboard envelope with the slogan “HelloMoto,” familiar to users since the company produced push-button phones.

    Inside the envelope are documentation and a paperclip for opening the SIM tray. Also in the box are:
