• Blind printing method. Blind ten-finger typing method. An easy way to learn ten-finger touch typing

    One of the main criteria for a person’s ability to work on a computer is his ability to quickly and correctly type text. Therefore, every day the number of computer users who want to independently and quickly learn how to quickly and efficiently type text is growing. Secretaries, assistants, journalists, copywriters, web developers, managers, students and schoolchildren - these are far from full list professions for which the ability to master touch typing skills is necessary.

    It is to such users that this book is addressed. Studying it will allow the reader to quickly master the “blind” ten-finger method typing. In addition to practical exercises, the book describes effective programs specifically designed for training speed dial texts. In addition, the book talks about popular software, the use of which can significantly speed up the typing process.

    Demo or free versions You will find all the programs discussed in the book on the included CD.

    Chapter 1
    Types of keyboards and their effect on typing speed

    The computer keyboard appeared simultaneously with the advent of the personal computer itself, and to this day exists in almost its original form. This device is unique in its stability: today, like 10 and 20 years ago, it is impossible to imagine a personal computer without a keyboard. And, apparently, this situation will continue for quite a long time, at least until reliable and publicly available speech recognition systems are created.

    However, while remaining functionally the same device, the keyboard has undergone many outwardly not so noticeable, but very important for the user changes over the years of the computer boom: it has become more compact, reliable, ergonomic, functional and even safe - due to the use of such types of plastics as do not emit any harmful substances during operation. And, of course, due to the gigantic production volumes, keyboards have become significantly cheaper over the years.

    Today, the computer market offers customers dozens of different keyboard models at a variety of prices. How can a modern keyboard affect the speed of typing, and what criteria should be used when choosing a keyboard?

    Since the keyboard is one of the critical devices, which determine the comfort of working on a computer, then one of the important criteria is the following: the keyboard, at a minimum, should be pleasant, pleasing to the eye, pleasant to the touch and easy to use.

    In addition, all the variety of keyboards can be classified according to their main characteristics.

    This will help you clearly understand what to compare with what, and what type of keyboard is preferable for a particular user in terms of typing speed.

    Keyboard Key Features

    The main characteristics of the keyboard include the following:

    Type of key mechanism;

    Key hardness;

    Character layout;

    Cyrillic color;

    Ergonomics;

    Availability of additional specialized groups of keys;

    Key mechanism type

    There are currently three main types of key mechanisms: membrane, semi-mechanical and mechanical.

    There is an absolute majority of keyboards with a membrane type key mechanism. In such keyboards, contacts are applied to the inner surface of a flexible membrane. When a key is pressed, the membrane bends, causing the contacts to touch, and when released, it straightens on its own. The key is additionally spring loaded with a rubber plate.

    In addition to the low price, keyboards of this type have other advantages: in particular, low noise of the mechanism during fast typing and good moisture resistance (moisture resistance is achieved due to the fact that the contacts are inside sealed membrane pads). The number of clicks that provides reliable contact, for this type of keyboards is usually between 10 and 30 million.

    In keyboards with semi mechanical mechanism The contacts of the keys are equipped with springs that can maintain elasticity much longer than the membranes. These keys can withstand up to 50 million keystrokes.

    In keyboards with a mechanical key mechanism, not only the opening of the contacts, but also the entire key stroke is accompanied by compression of a spring or a combination of a spring and a rubber shock absorber. Thanks to this system, the press-and-release cycle becomes extremely clear and pleasant, which has a positive effect on typing speed. The main disadvantages of such keyboards include the high price and limited selection of models. However, a mechanical key can withstand up to 100 million clicks (for gold-plated contacts).

    Key hardness

    A keyboard that is too hard makes it impossible for the user to type quickly and easily, as it requires the keys to be pressed quite hard, which leads to missing letters. A keyboard that is too soft, on the contrary, can insert unnecessary characters with an accidental light touch. Since each user has an individual concept of a “hard” and “soft” keyboard, manufacturers offer models with different hardness keys

    In addition, keyboards come with or without a click. IN in this case“click” is a barrier that appears in the middle of pressing and is overcome with a clearly tangible and audible click. It is implemented by a thin curved plate under the key, which, under a certain pressure, jerks downwards. The click allows you to accurately feel that a key is pressed and not miss letters when typing quickly.

    Typically, “click” is used in keyboards with mechanical type key mechanism, but occasionally occurs in other types of keyboards.

    Layout and color of the Cyrillic alphabet

    The layout (i.e., the arrangement of letters on the keys) of the Cyrillic alphabet is of two types:

    Windows (Russian, Russian). Recognized by the position of the letter E in the left top corner(under the Esc key).

    Typewritten (Russian Typewriter, Russian typewritten). Recognized by the location of the letter E in the lower right corner.

    In modern keyboards, the first layout option is most common.

    Cyrillic letters (they are located in the lower right corner of the keys) come in two colors - red (from most manufacturers) and dark. Although there are keyboards in which the color of the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet is the same - for example, white on a black keyboard.

    If the user has not yet mastered the touch typing technique, then it would be preferable to choose a keyboard with the red color of the Cyrillic alphabet. The dark Latin alphabet contrasts with the red Cyrillic letters, which provides the fastest visual search for the required key.

    Keyboard ergonomics

    At one time, Microsoft spent almost two years developing a new type of keyboard designed for Windows 95. This keyboard was called Natural Keyboard. In literal translation this means “natural keyboard”, in literary translation it means “ergonomic keyboard”.

    The main distinguishing features of this keyboard include the following:

    Vertical rows of keys turned to the sides, related to the area of action of each hand. The user is relieved of the stress associated with the need to hold his hands parallel to each other.

    The profile of the alphabetic part of the keyboard is a convex arc.

    The user is relieved of the stress associated with the need to hold his hands parallel to the plane of the table.

    There is a stand for resting your hands.

    Based on the above, we can conclude that the use of ergonomic keyboards can significantly increase your typing speed.

    The disadvantage of such keyboards is several large sizes compared to ordinary ones; In addition, when switching from a flat model to an ergonomic one, it takes some time to get used to.

    If the user works a lot with text and is not limited in the workspace, then to increase ease of use and speed up typing, it is best to purchase an ergonomic keyboard.

    Additional specialized key groups

    For a long time, keyboards had a standard set of 101 keys, and seemed to have acquired a completely finished look. However, the development of operating Windows systems, the advent of the Internet and the expansion functionality personal computers led to the fact that new keys began to appear in whole groups. These new keys are not vital, since the commands they issue can be reproduced using the mouse, but, of course, commands are entered much faster from the keyboard. Next we will look at the most popular specialized key groups.

    Windows key group

    This group appeared first, almost immediately after its release operating system Windows 95. There are three keys in the group, which are located between Alt and Ctrl: to the right of the Space key are the WL and WA keys (pressing the WA key is similar to right-clicking the mouse, which is usually accompanied by the appearance of a context menu), to the left is the second WL key (pressing any of which is similar to clicking the Start button on the Windows taskbar).

    Internet key group

    The rapid development and widespread use of the Internet has led to the appearance of corresponding keys on the keyboard. In most cases, they perform the following functions:

    Internet connection (via modem);

    Access to a given site;

    Receiving/sending mail.

    Internet keys are usually located at the top of the keyboard, above function keys. If the user often works on the Internet, then the presence of such keys will help save working time.

    Multimedia key group

    Multimedia keys are designed to control multimedia players. With their help you can:

    Increase and decrease volume;

    Turn off the sound;

    Go to next/previous track;

    Start playback;

    Take a break;

    Stop playback;

    Capture frame;

    Pull out the CD-ROM tray.

    If there are fewer multimedia keys on the keyboard than the listed functions, then they are connected by the user himself to the most frequently used multimedia functions.

    Office key group

    Office keys will help you compose, edit, or simply read arbitrary text using just the keyboard. Using office keys allows you to:

    Create Microsoft document Word;

    Copy block to clipboard;

    Paste block from clipboard;

    Cut block from clipboard;

    Add a table to the document.

    A keyboard with a group of office keys can be recommended for those who often work with text documents. Using these keys significantly increases operating speed.

    Programmable key group

    Programmable keys, as a rule, are designed to call the most frequently used applications, actions, operations, etc. by a particular user. In this case, the user independently determines the functionality of these keys. For example, using such keys you can quickly minimize all windows, call up a calculator, switch to search mode, etc.

    Keyboard structure

    As noted above, currently domestic market a wide range of the most different keyboards. Along with keyboards of a standard configuration, there are keyboards that have advanced adjustment capabilities (for example, splitting in the middle part and a non-standard shape); however, it should be noted that the use of such keyboards is advisable after the “blind” ten-finger typing method has been mastered. In addition, wireless keyboards are becoming especially popular these days.

    Despite the many differences in appearance and ergonomic properties (see previous section), the structure of all keyboards is approximately the same. The following is a list of key groups found on any standard keyboard:

    Function keys– all keys from F1 to F12.

    Special keys – these include: Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Ctrl, Windows, Alt and Enter.

    Alphanumeric keyboard– all keys (including Space) located between special and function keys, with the exception of the Backspace key.

    Cursor keys– these include: Backspace, Insert, Home, Delete, End, Page Up, Page Down, as well as arrow keys.

    Numeric keypad – the so-called “gray” keys, located to the right of the cursor control keys.

    Computer power keys– these include the Power, Sleep and Wake keys.

    Esc is a key that is not part of any key group and is located in the upper left corner of the keyboard.

    The contents of a standard keyboard are shown schematically in Fig. 1.1.

    Rice. 1.1. Standard keyboard key groups

    It is possible that the structure of some keyboards does not fully correspond to the above list, but these discrepancies will not be fundamental.

    Keyboard settings

    Many users use the default keyboard settings while working, without even realizing that these settings can be changed. In this section, we will look at how you can configure the keyboard to suit the characteristics of each user (assuming the use of the Windows 7 operating system).

    Basic Keyboard Settings

    To switch to the keyboard settings mode, you need to open the Hardware and Sound category in the Control Panel and click on the Devices and Printers link. In the window that appears, you need to right-click on the keyboard icon and in the opened context menu select Keyboard options.

    As a result, the keyboard settings window shown in Fig. 1 will open on the screen. 1.2.

    On the Speed tab, you can configure parameters that determine the speed characteristics of the keyboard. Using the Delay before repeating slider, you can set the time interval after which characters will begin repeating when you hold down the key. The Repeat Speed slider is designed to set the required speed for entering repeated characters while holding the key down. In this case, in the field below you can check set speed. Using the Cursor Flicker Frequency slider, you can increase or decrease the cursor flicker frequency. The selected mode is clearly demonstrated to the left of the slider.

    The Hardware tab contains general information about the keyboard being used: name and type of device, manufacturer, device status (if there are no problems, the device is working normally). If you detect problems with the keyboard, use the Diagnostics button - when you click on it, the Troubleshooting Wizard window appears on the screen. Using the Properties button, a window opens containing extended information about the keyboard: its type, state, driver (the ability to remove and update the driver is implemented). The Device Status field on the General tab can display a list of conflicting devices, and if there are none, this field displays a message that the device is working normally.

    Changes to the keyboard properties window settings take effect after you click Apply or OK. Use the Cancel button to exit. this mode without saving changes.

    Settings additional features

    To enter the mode for setting up additional keyboard features, open Center in Control Panel. special features, and click the Change keyboard settings link. As a result, the window shown in Fig. 1 will open on the screen. 1.3.

    For the settings to take effect, click OK or Apply. To exit this mode without saving changes, click Cancel.

    Chapter 2
    The essence of the ten-finger method

    The “blind” ten-finger typing method is a method in which all ten fingers of both hands are involved in the typing process. In this case, the user works “blindly” - his eyes do not look at the keyboard, but are busy only reading the original from which he types the text, or look at the computer monitor. The keyboard is divided into two service zones: the right-hand zone and the left-hand zone, with each finger assigned to strictly defined keys. At the same time, a habit of fingers is developed to the initial position, and a certain set of keys is assigned to each finger.

    One of the basic principles of the ten-finger method is that the fewer keys there are on one finger, the higher and simpler the typing technique will be - therefore, all ten fingers must be used.

    The undoubted advantages of the ten-finger typing method include:

    High typing speed with minimal typos.

    Uniform load on all fingers and ensuring sufficient rest for each of them.

    The typing process becomes completely mechanical - the desired character is instantly and accurately entered with the finger assigned to the corresponding key.

    Upgrading my typing skills took six months. But the game was worth the candle.

    In the USA, 95% of PC users use touch typing. In the post-Soviet space - only 5%. The prevalence of computers is comparable in both cases, but in the first case a 10-finger touch typing course is included in the school curriculum, in the second it is not. And it's strange.

    IN modern world The ability to type text quickly and without errors is akin to the ability to count and write. After all, the computer has already become an integral part of the life of almost every person for five to ten years. Yes, it is quite possible to type with two fingers, and if you do this often, the speed will be impressive. But the efficiency of the set is lower in any case.

    At a minimum, you get more physically tired, because you have to constantly look from the keyboard to the screen. Even with the so-called “semi-visual” typing method, which I developed over years of practice typing with two to four fingers.

    Below I will tell you about my experience in mastering 10-finger touch typing and the problems that arose in the process. After all, relearning is always more difficult than starting from scratch. But the final result was worth overcoming all the difficulties.

    I hope my example will encourage you, dear readers, to improve your typing skills. Believe me, investing time and effort now will give a tangible advantage in the future and increase labor efficiency in many areas of human activity.

    Why break something that works well?

    I started studying blind typing at the end of January and finished in October. Was the game worth the trouble? Definitely yes. The reasons were described above - this is the opportunity to double the typing speed (for me personally), and more comfortable work in any conditions, and the absence of binding to Russian symbols on the keyboard.

    It seemed to me that I had long ago reached the level of a “keyboard ninja” and there was nowhere to develop further, and there was no need to. The problem is that when there is nothing to compare it to, it is difficult to understand the full benefits of a new initiative. Therefore, I ask you to take my word for it. Typing became... how to put it more accurately... more fun - that's the right word.

    What tools to use? Any - I described the most popular ones. If you want to try learning touch typing on an automatic machine without much effort, try KeyKey. If you don’t want to spend extra money, VSE10 and “Klavogonki” will help. We decided to approach the issue thoroughly - “SOLO on the keyboard” is an excellent option, albeit the most expensive.

    There is only one piece of advice - exercise daily. It’s better to spend 15, 30–60 minutes every day than to try to learn touch typing in bursts of three to five hours once a week or two. Also, if typing speed is not critical, try typing with ten fingers in everyday life from the first lessons. The learning process will go faster.

    Many of us, even those who work a lot at the computer, still “poke” the keys with two fingers. Moreover, even with this “method” of printing, the typing speed can be quite good. However, this does not mean that you should not learn to touch-type with ten fingers.

    There are even specialized courses for this purpose, and in the West it is one of the subjects in secondary schools. What is this for? Firstly, typing with all fingers reduces the number of errors and increases typing speed. Secondly, the time spent typing is significantly reduced, and overall fatigue when working at a computer is reduced. Third, it's good for your eyesight (when working in the dark with a black keyboard), and it's just nice to type while looking at the screen rather than the keyboard.

    How to learn? There are a lot of resources, including the already mentioned touch typing courses, and online classes, and special programs. We will not dwell on the courses, but we will look at programs and online simulators.

    Programs.

    In general, most of these programs are based on a similar methodology. First, the “student” studies the middle row of the keyboard - this is FYVAPROLJE, trying to get used to typing certain letters with the corresponding fingers. Here, as practice shows, the most difficult thing is to “move” the ring finger and, especially, the little finger. After mastering the middle row, the top and bottom rows are added. Learning may be accompanied by irritation because your fingers press the wrong keys, there are a lot of mistakes, etc. - this cannot be avoided. But you don’t need to be too upset - this is a fairly serious skill, and to acquire it, you need to work hard, don’t expect an easy “victory”.

    The most famous program on the Runet for mastering the ten-finger blind typing method is SOLO on keyboard. I will dwell on this keyboard simulator in more detail, since this is not just a program, but an extended training course. In addition to simply typing certain letters in SOLO on keyboard contained detailed instructions, tips and many other materials that help you cope with irritation from mistakes, and help you not stop halfway.
    The entire course consists of 100 exercises. Having completed all 100, you are guaranteed to type text with all 10 fingers, regardless of the keyboard - checked. Each exercise contains up to 6-7 tasks. In addition, after many exercises you will need to repeat one of the previous ones. At the beginning of each exercise there are anecdotes from the creators of the program, which are sure to cheer you up and help you relax a little. Also included are numerous letters from people who have already completed SOLO, in which they describe the problems they encountered and what was the most difficult for them. You will find something of your own in them, and this will help you overcome difficulties. After completing the task, you are given a grade on a 5-point scale.

    Another program for teaching touch typing. The authors, apparently, decided not to bother with the name :). Here is the first stage of training, which is implemented in the form of great game- balls with certain letters fall, and you need not to miss the ball and have time to press the corresponding key. The training must be completed up to level 6. The second stage is typing practice. The program is paid, and the limitation is the inaccessibility of the last stage of training - dictations. However, I would not pay for such a program.

    Another new project that promises to free us from the habit of pointing two fingers at the keyboard. At the beginning, you will have to take a test to check your typing speed. Then the exercises begin. Two courses are available - Russian and English. The training section provides detailed instructions and recommendations for completing tasks.

    Addition

    To all that has been said above, you can add the following. Anyone who works at a computer, and especially if they have to type a lot of text, needs to buy ergonomic keyboard. It is also called separate because the keys for each hand are separated. In addition, the right and left blocks are at an angle to each other, which allows you to avoid bending your hand at the wrist when placing your hands in the initial position FYVA-OLJ. Working on such a keyboard, you will definitely be less tired, and this will increase the average typing speed and, accordingly, productivity.

    I have already said that you should not hope to easily “conquer” the blind typing method. It's quite difficult, especially at the beginning. To pass, for example, SOLO on keyboard It will take a lot of effort and patience. In addition, special time will need to be allocated for this. However, you shouldn’t be afraid of this; anyone who wants to will undoubtedly cope with this task. Good luck!

    XXI century - era computer technology. Today, the inability to type on a keyboard is comparable to the inability to use a ballpoint pen. In a time when every minute is valuable, typing slowly is an unaffordable luxury that limits a person's capabilities in the modern world.

    Why do you need to type quickly?

    Quite recently it was a rarity. The ability to type any text, despite the keyboard, was equated to magic. Only a few possessed such skill. Now everything has changed a lot, and high-speed printing is a frequently used, professionally valuable skill. Many employers, when selecting employees whose activities will be related to computers, specify proficiency in touch typing as one of the main requirements for applicants.

    Nowadays, not only computer typing operators in publishing houses must type quickly, but also accountants, economists, office clerks - everyone whose work involves creating electronic documents.

    Which keyboard is considered optimal?

    So, there are many services that help determine how fast you type. You only need to type for a minute at speed, and after that the treasured number appears. But what is it compared to? What print speed is considered good?

    For those unfamiliar with touch typing, it's likely that you won't be able to type more than 150 characters in one minute. Looking at the keyboard and using two fingers makes it difficult to achieve great speed. And even if you have already learned how to type with the ten-finger method, do not expect that high speed print. At first it will be about 200 characters per minute, which is not bad. A typing speed that “keeps pace” with normal speech is considered comfortable. The more training, the faster it increases. Once you reach 300-400 characters per minute, start to be proud of yourself. Professionals can boast of this speed.

    But even if you can do this, it’s too early to relax. The world record for typing speed was set in 2005, and ten years later, no one can beat it. It is 750 characters in one minute.

    How can you increase your printing speed?

    We have set a goal - to learn how to quickly type text on the keyboard. What will come of this is still unknown. Perhaps you will receive praise from your boss and a promotion, or a miracle may happen and a new name will appear in the Guinness Book of Records. In any case, such a valuable skill will not be superfluous; it will make working at the computer more efficient and help save time.

    Often, beginners try to increase their speed by simply entering texts on the keyboard, and spend more than one hour doing such a monotonous task. Let's say right away - it's a waste of time if you don't use the right typing technique.

    The touch typing method is what will help. This is the only thing the right way giving typing. Only after mastering the principles of this method can you devote time to training. In this case, they will be effective, and the results will not keep you waiting.

    Touch typing - how is it?

    This method of typing appeared at the end of the 18th century. In those days, computers were out of the question, because mass production of typewriters had just begun. No attention was paid to learning how to type quickly. Everyone was looking for convenient methods of working on keyboards. The most effective method turned out to be typing without looking at the keyboard and with the distribution of keys for each finger.

    This method began to be called the ten-finger method because it involves all ten fingers on the hands, and the blind method - because when typing text, you don’t have to look at the buttons. As you learn touch typing, you will memorize the location of every letter and every sign on the keyboard. Does this seem difficult? Nothing of the kind! Literally after a few days of training, the fingers themselves will begin to look for the buttons in in the right place. Moreover, each of the ten fingers has and accurately remembers its work zone.

    Two important principles of the ten-finger method

    Users who have been using touch typing for a long time follow two basic rules without thinking about it. Beginners will need to try hard. So, if you decide to master the touch typing method on the keyboard, remember:

    1. Each finger presses only certain, “its” buttons. This is clearly shown in the figure below.

    The color of the finger corresponds to the color of the keys that it must press.

    2. Looking at the keyboard while typing is strictly prohibited. This habit is the main problem for beginners. Getting rid of it is not as easy as it seems. At the beginning of training, there will be many typos that will have to be corrected, but over time, tactile memory will begin to develop, and you will stop thinking about every movement. The fingers will press the correct buttons themselves.

    Only by adhering to these principles can you quickly learn to type on the keyboard. If you ignore at least one of them, you will wait a very long time for results.

    How long does it take to learn to touch type?

    The blind ten-finger typing method can be mastered in a month with daily training. Don't be afraid, you won't have to spend 10-12 hours typing for 30 days. Three-hour classes, but regular ones, are enough.

    Often, beginners, having a great desire, mastered touch typing in two to three weeks. This does not mean that after three weeks the typing speed will be 300-400 characters per minute. To achieve this speed, further training is necessary. This does not necessarily have to be targeted work on simulator programs, you just need to apply the acquired skills when using a computer.

    It may seem at first that you are typing slower with the touch typing method than with the two-finger “sighted” method. In this case, the main thing is not to worry and not to give up further use of touch typing. In a couple of weeks at most, a tendency towards an increase in speed will become noticeable.

    Touch Typing Basics

    The ten-finger printing method has several variations, similar to each other in the main points.

    Before you start typing, your fingers are in a strictly defined place. They return there in pauses between entering words or sentences. We immediately need to find the supporting row of the keyboard. This is the third row of keys from the bottom. The left hand is placed on the letter A, and the right hand is placed on O. The remaining fingers occupy places above the adjacent buttons. For quick definition The positions of the support keys on any keyboard are marked with small raised protrusions. As you improve your skills, you will learn to feel the correct position of your hands without touching the keys.

    Each finger presses only the letter buttons closest to it, according to the color scheme.

    Each one is also pressed only with a certain finger. It is more difficult to get used to pressing special buttons correctly than using an alphabetic keyboard.

    The key is used to delete erroneously entered characters and is pressed with the little finger on the right hand.

    To press the Key, use the little finger on your left hand.

    A frequently used button, we use our right little finger to press it.

    There are two keys on the keyboard. If you need to change the case of a letter that is entered using any finger of the right hand, then press with the left little finger, and vice versa.

    Programs

    In general, most of these programs are built on the same methodology. First, the “entrant” studies the row of the keyboard, which is located in the middle - this is FYVAPROLJE, and tries to learn how to type certain letters with certain fingers. At this moment, the most difficult thing is to “move” the little finger and ring finger. Once you've mastered the middle row, move on to the bottom and top rows. Also, during training, you may experience irritation due to the fact that your fingers press the wrong keys, you get a lot of mistakes, and so on - this is inevitable. You shouldn’t be too upset - this is a pretty serious skill, and you need to work hard to get it.

    Keyboard solo

    The most popular program on the RuNet for learning the ten-finger touch typing method is SOLO on the keyboard. All exercises consist of 6-7 tasks. In addition, when you go through a lot of exercises, you may be returned to some previous one. Also, in each exercise there are jokes from the creators that can cheer you up and you can relax a little. You can also read letters from people who have already completed SOLO. In these letters, people described the problems they had and what was most difficult for them. When you complete the task, the program will give you a grade on a five-point scale.
